Hey there, I am a T-mobile customer.
Do you guys think it's worth getting the AT&T version now or wait for the T-MO. I'd rather not be on a contract and I have no way of knowing if the T-mo version would be $650-$700 upon release w/o contract.
What do you guys think?
You can get international version now and it would work on T mobile. I would check out what Galaxy S III has to offer before i make my decision if i were you

I'm not impressed by the S III. I would make good use of the S-Pen and related apps for work. The larger screen size helps too. It's not too large of a device for me. Considering the S III will most likely be neutered over here in the US, I'm writing it off. It's not the phone it should have been and it's mostly software
The international version wouldn't receive HSPA+ due to lack of 1700mhz base band. I'd just edge and that's not going to work. Otherwise, I'd have picked one up already.

The AT&T wouldnt work properly without mod. Id say if you want reliability, get the tmo version.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
actually i would say get it now atnt i717. 2 reasons. 1) obviously you would have it now and it would work. Notice i didnt say work well. It really depends where you live and the data is not always consistent but around a range. I always get around 1-1.5 mbps down but there are times when its crazy like .5 mbps and .2 and sometimes even 3.5mbps. its flaky, but it works and its still good enough not that slow you can still get email and check apps. 2) Once the tmobile version comes out im almost postive that it can be ported to the atnt and make it work the same. I mean hardware is going to be the same the only things different would be the modem (which we need , a stable tmobile modem), the tmobile branding, and the bloatware.
But in the end its up to you. Depends if you can wait or not. I personally dont see any reason to wait. Onl if it wasnt possible to port the modem to this rom when tmobile note comes out.

I can get between 6mbps and 1.0 mbps now on an exhibit II 4g and the phone is super buggy anyways. As long as it's fast enough to go on the web, always be able to make & receive calls/texts , I'm happy. My area has great signal strength, in general, so I think I won't have issues. I don't live in the sticks.
I agree that the hardware will be the same. No 1.4ghz Exynous us USA guys, so it should be able to be ported over anyways since the modem suppports the same frequency.
Hell, wouldn't someone do a stock rip of T-mo's bloated OS (and an unbloated version) that could be flashed to the AT&T version anyways?
Yeah they probably would. Just port the whole rom over and if they wanted to they probably would remove the bloat too.
I ended up ordering an unlocked, white i717 w/ a couple extra batteries / chargers / cases.
Now I just have to flash the radio (will to check out the radio thread now) and look into roms.
Thanks guys.
i currently own the i717 but am looking to go to an international galaxy note. i wont be getting lte in my area until well after i'm due for another upgrade. i think i would prefer ics and the faster processor. i also like the video editing app on the international note. if anyone is in an lte area and wants to take advantage of the increased internet speeds let me know.
I dont think that this is the correct location to do such a thing...
Hey yall I just wanted to start a discussion thread for T-Mobile like me who are braving T-Mobile's refarmed network and using the HTC One X+ (International or unlocked AT&T variant). Maybe we can get a few tips and tricks together to make our user experience a bit better.
For example, such radios yall are using, any build.prop edits that might help data speeds or GPS locking speed (if you are using the international version like I am).
Ill update the OP with the list of suggestions, maybe an FAQ.
I've been using the Phone Info app to turn off the LTE radio, although I'm not entirely sure that is does. I use the GSM auto mode which is the default on 3G non LTE phones. The default on the One X+ is GSM/WCDMA/LTE
Is anyone experiencing weak or wavering 3G signal (over PCS) as discussed toward the end of this thread (scroll down about halfway on page three)?
http://forums.tmonews.com/index.php?topic=18318.40
The very knowledgeable posters there say that T-Mobile is using less power on PCS (WCDMA), as compared to AWS, right now. And probably won't turn it up until they start shifting AWS to LTE.

Definitely especially indoors. I get full bars of PCS where available, but indoors I'm switching between 3G/"4G" and Edge.

I have a question for you guys that are using the HOX+ on T-mobile.
What type of sim card are you using?
I know that on the original HTC One X, you had to use a non-gba sim card that said 50.01 on the front to make it work, and that if you used the one that said 50.05 you wouldn't get data even if you change the APN settings.
I just bought this phone a few minutes ago on Amazon and I know Houston is a 1900MHZ pcs market so that's not an issue, i just want to make sure I don't run into any issues with the sim card I have as it is fairly new.

Well I cut my sim from a regular SIM card so there aren't really numbers on it. I think you'll be safer with a newer one than an older one so you're fine.
Also located in Houston and getting pretty good 3G
I tried to sign up over at tmonews forums and registration for new users is closed. Anybody have any insight as to when that will reopen?
I believe one of the reasons TMO has to go with lower power at first is to measure the impact of their new 1900mhz spectrum usage in the existing market in question. Since other carriers are using the same spectrum they need to make sure they do not cause interference. The best way to do that is short and long term RF studies. Start off with a refarmed freq at lower power then over time bump up the power and make sure it doesnt cause any new interference. If so then your able to go to a higher power. Im sure the FCC has time constraints for this but add into it the amount of towers im sure the carrier would rather accomplish more with each visit. So if an upgrade or tweek is needed then they can also adjust the power.
Forgot to add i recently acquired the ATT version of the HTC ONE X+ 64GB and it does ok in the Dallas area. Had it switch a few times to G and E but for the most part i stays on 4G. HSPA+21.6 DL speeds go between 2megs down and 9 megs down.
Prior to that i was using a Nexus 4 and TMO GS3. I seem to have better speeds with my GS3.

The forums have been like that for a while (at least months). Don't know why. Perhaps you can email the person who writes the blog and ask about it.
I live in the Orlando area, I am on Straight Talk. I was using an at&t compatible SIM from straight talk and got up to 7mb down and 1.5mb up but these speeds were not consistent, a few days ago I switched to a t -mobile compatible SIM from straight talk and now I get consistent 12mb down and 3mb up. I was very surprised! I'm so glad I did this switch
I am using an at&t 1X+ which I unlocked.

All, nice threat. just got this phone and unlocked the bootloader today. how can i unlock the simcard to use on tmo? i know we have LTE here and I am dying to see what kind of speeds i can get on this phone. thanks all

I have been searching all across google for weeks on a way to get rid of this horrible edge (2g) and have found just about nothing.
But my point in making this thread is to potentially find an answer, or share my findings on any/all info I have stumbled upon.
So upon my findings I have found out that most users get angry or flame the question of T-Mobile on Verizon BUT yes indeed it does work.
I have gotten Voice,SMS, and 2G to work (using the 30$ a month unlimtext/data and 100 min plan) I Have not tested MMS but should work on 2g.
I did find this, it's been asked but said that only 2g will work.

With that linked I do believe that there is a way to activate the 1700MHZ frequency in our phones for the HSPA but I have not seen it done. after all the hardware is there just not the software.
I have seen it done on the AT&T S4 though.
http://galaxys4root.com/galaxy-s4-t...aws-bands-on-att-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337sgh-i337m/
So why can't our Verizon galaxy s4's do this and pick up ALL of t-mobile's HSPA frequencies and JUST the refarmed ones?
In past T-Mobile experiance they suck on rolling out new technologies unless your in NYC or a major city.
Then I stumbled upon a WIP for the AWS band on HSPA AND LTE (exciting!) but it appears to have died down. (oh no! D

and with that I have ran out of information and now apologize for crap posting on this glorious forum. if you have any helpful information getting AWS for HSPA on our phones PLEASE post it below! I want to see this phone get full use of it's GSM/UMTS radio! :good::good:
I haven't tried this but sounds legit let me know if it works. Supposed to get 4g and everything working.
#1 Insert new sim then restart
#2 Go to your network settings and make sure you are set to global or gsm
#3 Go to apn settings and hit menu and create new apn, call it what you want.
#4 Change its apn to: fast.t-mobile.com
#5 Change the MMSC (same menu) to: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
#6 Restart your phone

Let me clarify one more thing btw (not saying your wrong just one thing i should have added) 4g DOES work for t-mobile on the verizon galaxy s4 but only in certain areas and like i said not everybody lives in a big city and it would be nice to have AWS to get the hspa that is almost EVERYWHERE. so with that said this is about AWS on our phone.

see the only problem is that you will only get the HSPA if it is refarmed on our device. and here in walkersville MD thats not gonna happen for me anytime soon, neither is LTE when i can use it this summer.
What about AT&T HSPA+? I wouldn't go with them, but maybe one of the MVNO's that use the their tower's
I was on AIRVOICE for sometime and I got HSPA in the basement of my house. not once did I get edge like I do on t-mobile. so you should get HSPA as often as anybody on an AT&T phone. I always got redirected when I tried to connect on to data on airvoice though but that was their problem. I know it works.
Has anyone made headway in this field? I too have a VZW GS4 and bought a Tmo sim and can only get EDGE. 40Kbps won't do.
40KBps! Lucky! Over here in walkersville MD tmobile hates us and Hasnt reamed for 4g or gave us the new LTE (which the mj5 radio enables btw, yiu can get LTE with it! )

Can you give me the step by step to install hyperdriver on my vzw galaxy S4 i545. I have it rooted but I can't seem to get the rom uninstall/install to work for me. I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 sch-i545 android 4.3 build number ending in MK2.
Just wondering couldn't you flash the full image of a SGH-M919 and call it a day? Wouldn't the software tell the hardware to reconfigure or has that just ended in softbricking? - I'm on T-Mo got dropped by Sprint for overuse; girlfriend uses SCH-I545, (It would have been nice if I didn't have to sell my SPH-L720 to switch carriers!)

Here are three links (sort of cheat sheets) with some information that will help:
http://androidforums.com/threads/how-to-tell-if-a-phone-will-work-on-t-mobile.706991/
http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2014/09/what-phone-works-with-which-operator.html
http://www.droid-life.com/2015/02/05/us-wireless-carrier-bands-gsm-cdma-wcdma-lte-verizon-att-sprint-tmobile/
You should also check out http://www.willmyphonework.net/, and if you end up with the FDD + TDD LTE version, that helps reconfirm things will work because of the 1900 MHz coverage.
You asked specifically about getting data inside buildings. My understanding is that lower frequencies work better for indoor coverage because they can more easily pass through walls, but they do not have the best range. In turn, if you want better outdoor distance and range, then higher frequencies work better because they are less attenuated by the atmosphere. Somebody else more knowledgeable can comment on this. But in the long run, it will probably be about your local coverage, too. I.e. if you are generally close to cell towers, the indoor/outdoor factor might not make much of a difference. And if you can somehow manage wifi calling with T-Mobile, that might also minimize any potential issue.
I think wifi calling must be baked into the phone to use it, but I may be wrong about this.
Any US T-Mobile users that can confirm this either way?
I am waiting on a Prime model myself, and plan to use it with an AT&T mvno in the US. AT&T supposedly has 3G on both 850 and 1900 MHz so 3G should work no problem.
thanks for the response. Accoring to the willmyphonework site it will work on Tmobile with 3g.. So im guessing no HSPA or HSPA+ right? these bands/network/freq confuse me.

This phone should work with T-Mobile 3G, and also what T-Mobile calls 4G, but which is actually HSPA+, and thus, by the book is on 3G. Take a look at the AndroidForums link I sent above. Supposing that information is true, it says the following:
3G
The technology for 3G is called UMTS. T-Mobile uses two frequencies for their UMTS network: 1900MHz and 1700/2100MHz. So if you check your phone's specifications and see that it has either 1900MHz or 1700/2100MHz listed as one of the UMTS frequencies, then it will support T-Mobile's 3G network.
4G - HSPA+
T-Mobile did a bit of marketing on this one. What T-Mobile calls 4G can more accurately be called HSPA+. This is not really a new technology, rather, it's an upgrade of the 3G technology UMTS. Therefore, if your phone supports the UMTS frequencies 1900MHz or 1700/2100MHz, then we just need to check to see if the phone supports HSPA (slower) or HSPA+ (faster). If it does, then it will be compatible with T-Mobile's 4G network.

The RN2 supports UMTS at 1900 MHz and HSPA+ so yes, you should be able to get HSPA+ service. HSPA+ is pretty speedy, and for my own use case, it is perfectly fine. Some people will want/need/demand LTE speeds (even though HSPA+ gets very close, and sometimes passes it...). But at least for my own use case, I don't plan to be downloading huge files, or streaming HD video when I am away from wifi coverage. So for me, data up to 3G/HSPA+ is fine. But you'll have to figure out if it is good enough for you.

tlxxxsracer, I'm always nervous to suggest something I cannot back up with my own firsthand experience. According to the information I pointed out, it seems like the RN2 should be able to use T-Mobile 3G/HSPA+ service. But it would sure be nice to have an actual RN2 T-Mobile user out there confirm this. Are there any of you around?
Check out the Huawei ascend mate 7. It's a little more than the RN2, but is compatible with tmobile lte bands. I'm gonna purchase it here soon. Idk where u live, but I used tmobiles hspa, and got crappy service. Only like 5 down and .5 up. But switching to lte I'm getting like 45d and 8u. Huge difference lol.

I got the Prime (32GB) version from merimobiles.com . The buying experience was good. If you plan on buying from them, signup for their emails, you get a $20 discount points. Create a new account and order via that account to get the status via their website. I forgot to do both these steps, and had to ping them everyday (5-6am EST ) to followup on my order. It will take a good 2-3 weeks to get the phone in your hands. I used Singapore post as my shipping option(extra $$), but they decided to send it via China Post epacket, which was pretty fast once EMS gets their hands on the package. It reached US within 3 days, but USPS/customs had it for a good 3 days after reaching our shore .

Good info, thanks and just found out it has 1yr warranty as well with option for $10 to buy 24month warranty.
Was there any import taxwith the singapore post option you selected?
I'll probably add shipping insurance too, just to be safe.
Did you check out with paypal? is there any protection from them in regards to shipping?
No import tax. ePackets is a sort of China Post & USPS offering. You can actually track the package using both their tracking system. I didn't get any insurance. The phone itself came nicely packaged in a bubble wrap. I did use paypal, but didn't check their shipping protection.
I also have T-Mobile and recently received my Redmi Note 2 16GB version from gearbest.com. Tried out a few different ROMs, both MIUI and AOSP. On MIUI, the network symbol shows an "H+" whenever I'm using data. On AOSP, only "3G" shows up top even though I have "4G Preferred" selected in network settings. Hope that helps!
Friend bought me the Redmi Note 2 straight from China. I have AT&T. Took my SIM out of the IPhone 5S and stuck it in slot 2 SIM. You can't slide it in all the way in as the SIM is a little bit shorter than the slot, it only works if you don't slide it in all the way. I get the H+ for data too which I assume is 3G and my signal is fine. If anyone has an easy way to use the LTE please update!

For the moment, this will not work on LTE using AT&T or T-Mobile as the RN2 does not have the correct band/frequency coverage. If somebody figures out how to hack the baseband and add the right coverage, and there is not an actual physical/hardware limitation, that could possibly open up LTE coverage in the future.
HSPA+ is quite fast, in fact, T-Mobile refers to it as "4G" (but not LTE). Some folks will want/demand LTE coverage, but depending on your use case, HSPA+ may be perfectly fine.

I don't know if it was a custom ROM but it did came with a bunch of bloat ware because I barely had any free space left so I just flashed TWRP and installed a fresh ROM over it.
I can confirm that the phone works on T-mobile HSPA+. I used it while visiting the US recently with a T-mobile MVNO (GoSmart).
I can also confirm that Gearbest ships the phone in an almost unusable state due to constant popups. Flashing new ROM is necessary.
