AT&T S9+ FW: ARBI GIF Sending Issues w/ Advanced Messeging? - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Okay I am on at&t and when I first got the Galaxy S9+ with Oreo, sending gif images with the stock firmware/messenger and Advanced messaging presented no issues, but after I downloaded the latest update and try to use Oreo messager with advanced messaging enabled, I cannot send or receive gifs only, everything else I can send.
If I disable AM I can send gif messages just fine, and if I use a 3rd party app like Textra, same, no issues, it seems to only be an issue with stock messenger with AM enabled, after the latest firmware? I like the eature, but not being able to use it and send gifs is a bit annoying.
Can anybody else on at&t confirm this? I use Gboard as my keyboard and I have tried clearing app data on both messenger and Gboard with no success, so I'm almost lead to believe it's a more recent firmware issue.
Thanks for any help in advance.

quick reply sms/ sms clients dont work

So i want a quick reply feature for SMS. I'm aware there is already a lot of threads on this. Its just that I cant get any of them to work. I'm rooted and still running TW, I have Xposed installed, but I think the problem might be that I deleted the stock messaging app because I hated it so much and was happy with Hangouts. I ran into some bootloop troubles and did a factory reset via safestrap and after that my stock app magically reappeared. Before this trouble I was using floating texts and it worked great, now any SMS client I try either gives me a force close or simply doesn't send or receive messages. I've tried 10 plus messaging apps and none but hangouts and stock work.
Thanks!

Animated gifs in MMS

Has anyone else noticed animated gifs via MMS not working when someone sends you one? My friends and I like to use them as quick responses and they're getting mine just fine but theirs comes through as a still. Despite opening the gif in Gallery or QuickPic, the gif appears to be broken. Also, it doesn't seem to matter which text app I use. Stock, Hangouts, or even Verizon Messaging shows all animated gifs broken. In case you're wondering, I use Hangouts primarily because it shows the gifs animated in-line. I'm also not rooted and I have no interested in rooting until after I've played around with the Lollipop update (whenever that happens).
Here are some things that I've noticed:
(1) It started happening when I got 12B
(2) A factory reset doesn't solve the problem
(3) Hangouts <-> Hangouts shows animated gifs properly but MMS -> Hangouts is broken
(4) People are still receiving my gifs animated
So what's going on? Is anyone else having this problem? Is it a Verizon issue?
Any suggestions, help, info, whatever would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Update
I installed Textra and it appears to be handling animated gifs no problem. But... this still doesn't explain why they don't work in any of the 3 SMS/MMS apps that come with the G3. Problem solved for now but it's really more of a bandaid than a true fix.
Hmm must not be a Verizon issue since Textra works. Shame we can't just blame them. Gifs play in Hangouts for me in-line as you described with 12b. There were some cases on google forums where clearing Hangout app/cache, uninstalling Hangouts, reboot, and reinstalling Hangouts worked for some but I don't think you can do that unrooted. Plus you have already factory reset anyways. I'm assuming your Hangouts is up to date.
On a side note, after taking the LP update you might no longer have the choice to root if they block rolling back to 10b which I'd say is highly likely. Best to unlock bootloader now. Within days of release the devs will release the LP OTA in a flashable zip. Just my two cents.

Could you share your settings? I'm still unable to get gifs to work in Textra. I'm using a G3 on Verizon.

I haven't touched the settings other than what it automatically took care of. It was weird, though, last night I suddenly stopped receiving texts in a timely manner so I uninstalled Textra and reinstalled it. Problem solved and it was working again. Have you tried that?
The first time I installed Textra on my L3 (I used it religiously on my old rooted HTC Evo3D) I was on one of the previous builds like 10 or something and it seemed to break texting entirely. All texts that I sent stayed in "sending" limbo while I wouldn't receive texts from anyone else. Even uninstalling Textra didn't fix the problem so I had to do a factory reset to get texting back. It has only been since gifs broke in stock/Hangouts that I even decided to install Textra again. I'm on 12B and now it works fine for me but I have no idea why.
I actually just realized that you can access a giphy library from within textra. I was trying to save gifs from chrome and attach but that didn't work. But using the gifs from within textra worked perfectly. I did change my MMS proxy port to 80 based on something I read on androidcentral, but I'm not sure that's necessary.
Sent from my VS985 4G using XDA Free mobile app
Update - that didn't last long
Textra has decided to spontaneously stop allowing me to send animated gifs larger than 2mb. I've gone into the MMS settings and changed the sending settings to "no limit" and it's still rejecting the send. Odd, it worked just fine up until a couple of days ago.
Trying other texting apps allows me to send large gifs but still received animated gifs are still broken. I'm getting really tired of this the reps at my local Verizon store are idiots.

Google messages on Mate 10 Pro

Im having this strange issue where the google messages app wont send or recive MMS.
The native huawei messages app has no issue with either sending or receving MMS messages.
I have checked the APN, but as the native app is working, this is prolly not the issue.
I have checked the permissions, and given permission to everything.
I have checked the battery settings for the app, and everything looks good.
Does anyone have any clue what is going on?
After having investigated further, i have now found others with similar issues.
I have not found the cause, but installing ChompSMS and putting it in Legacy mode makes MMS work in Chomp, no other 3rd party messanging apps work.
Is there really no one else experiencing something similar?

Stock app doesn't like to send mms

The stock Samsung messaging app struggles to send mms. It seems like it went resizing photos and live messages maybe? When I switch to non stock apps they all work fine, but in the stock app, especially group threads, sometimes they never send, or only some people in the group get the message. Had anyone else experienced this?

S9 messages app bug?

Ok so I have a weird problem to report. After installing the latest Oreo update over-the-air from T-Mobile this morning, I installed the Galaxy S9 messages app from apkmirror.com, the one with the blue icon.
The messages that functions normally like you would expect it to but any time I get a text message from my wife who has a Galaxy S9, I get the text message twice. This issue can only be reproduced by receiving a text message from My Wife and nobody else.
I have been searching for a solution to this problem and I have already wiped the apps data and cache multiple times but nothing has fixed the problem.
Has anybody who has installed the S9 messages app from apkmirror.com run into the same problem and if so, how have you fixed it?
Update: it seems I'm getting duplicates from all my friends who have T-Mobile android devices, regardless of manufacturer or software version.
This happens randomly to me as well, it doesn't happen all the time but I think it is from those on tmobile as well that send me messages. I'd wait and see if it just clears up on its own. Or switch to another messaging app.

I have since uninstalled the updated version of Samsung messages and the bug is no longer present.
I was hoping for a solution or work around that didn't involve uninstalling the update but perhaps it's a bugged version of the app. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a newer version, hopefully one from a note build and not an s9 build.

If you don't mind sharing - how did you uninstall the updated Messages app? I have the same sporadic duplicate thing going on, so want to go back to stock app. Thank you

Go to settings > apps > messages and click the 3 dot menu button and click uninstall updates.
Update! I have officially figured out what is causing the duplicate text messages after updating to the latest messages app.
In the newest releases, like the ones that came on the S9 and S9+, samsung integrated the message service app into the messages app. This, for some, is causing duplicate text messages when receiving messages from people who are on the same service provider who's devices also have advanced messaging with chat features.
To fix the problem of duplicate texts, you will need to purchase and install package disabler pro ($2.50 - don't be cheap...) from the play store and disable message service app and reboot.

That's all there is to it enjoy no longer getting duplicate text messages just as I am.
Happy Tuesday!
