Hello Moto Z community!
I was about to buy a Moto Z since the price I found is a complete bargain! (Around 190-200€)
But then I realized that it was the dual sim chinese version (XT1650-05) and then a few questions went to my mind...
1.- Would it be compatible with all the roms made for the single sim version? I would never use the second sim slot , I would use it for the sd card
2.- If I buy it, Will it come at least in english? (My first language is spanish, but I could use it in english)
3.- If I buy the gamepad moto mod will it work properly? (I mean in the stock ROM, in the Custom Roms I saw that only a few supports them)
I'm a little confusef about the models of this phone and I prefer to ask before buy and make a mistake!
Thank you in advance people, and excuse me If I commeted a fail in the text, as I said, english is not my first language
Now it *should* however, double check. Chinese phones usually have more restrictions and slower updates. I'd look for a XT1650-03 model if I were you.
It sounds like the XT1650-05 does not come with Google Apps.

I just bought this one - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LEL8ABY/ and it is a dual SIM 1650-03 RETAPAC model.
I'd already bought a 05, cause un my country I couldn't get a 03 and the 32gb (the one for the EU) is just too expensive and I couldn't buy it, anyway when it arrives I'll test if everything works correctly and then try to install another rom or try the method that is around for install the verizon nougat and later update it to Oreo. Thank you anyway

I am currently living in Japan and have just picked up a new HT1100 (Touch Dual) on the Docomo network.
This is my first smartphone/PDA and I am very happy with it except for the language problem.
The entire system is in Japanese and I would like to change it to English. I have tried asking Docomo who didn't have a clue what to do and it seems that the original English software has been completely removed and replaced with an all-Japanese ROM.
I have never changed the ROM on a smartphone before but I am willing to give it a go but I have a few questions which I can't find answers to by searching -
1, Would it be better for me to try and find an English language pack (if one exists)?
2, If I do have to change the ROM completely then which would be the best one for me?
3, If everything gets screwed up then what are my chances of unbricking it and putting the original Japanese software back on?
4, If everything goes to plan and I change the software to a hacked version can I still use my Docomo sim card in it? Or is there some kind of security check between the sim card and the phone that means the card will only work with the Docomo ROM?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm a bit of a newbie at this and don't want to ruin a brand new phone that I am otherwise so happy with!
Read the Sticked Thread about HardSPL and make all Steps!!!
Read 10 Pages of the Thread befor you try this. Then you know all errors you can have and it prevent use for the same questions they all ready posted hehehe
After that ... looks around for a Favorit Rom and try it! If you have a Problem ... read the first 10 Pages of the Thread!

neon 100
japanese ht1100 code name is neon 100 not niki,
so do not flash niki radio or rom to ht1100(neon 100).
Thanks for the replies!
I will certainly read each step carefully before I flash the phone with new ROM.
But before I do I just want to check one thing to be completely clear - are you saying that after I put on this new homebrew ROM I will DEFINITELY be able to use my Docomo sim card in it without any problems?
Also, what settings would I need to enter on the new phone to use it properly? ie, when I flashed normal phones in the past I needed to re-enter all the MMS/internet settings. Is it the same with these smartphones or are there any other settings I will need to get?

2, If I do have to change the ROM completely then which would be the best one for me? I think your device is a Neon, if i'm correct that i think i'm the only one cooking Neon Roms .
3, If everything gets screwed up then what are my chances of unbricking it and putting the original Japanese software back on? Dump your original Rom before doing anything that way you can always manage to flash it back.
4, If everything goes to plan and I change the software to a hacked version can I still use my Docomo sim card in it? Or is there some kind of security check between the sim card and the phone that means the card will only work with the Docomo ROM? Is your phone Network locked? Have you tried a sim card from another Network?

hi,I have same handset with you , and have flashed english rom , if you want to flash any english rom,I think you will cannt use docomo network mms, hi-speed data plan etc.
and cannt accesse internet. so, must dump docomo original rom before flash other english rom. good luck.
I don't know if my phone is network locked as I have not tried another sim yet but I wouldn't be surprised if it it.
Actually, after mailing HTC Japan they have pointed me in the direction of an English language pack sold by another company. I have to wait another 24 hours before I can use it but it looks promising - http://www.cfcompany.co.jp/product/mobem/mobem.html
If Aten is right then flashing the phone will be no use to me if the Docomo sim card doesn't work.
I will wait and try this language pack to see how that works out. Maybe after that I will consider flashing the ROM.

The MMS and Connection settings are store either in *.Rgu files or *.Xml files on the Rom, not sure which ones. I had the same issue with my Telstra branded Rom, the network settings were built in so i couldn't connect to any other network. If you dump your rom and upload it up i can have a look and extract these settings for you.
Cheers
Well that language pack software arrived last night and I installed it without any problems.
It all seems pretty good. Not everything is translated but its enough to make the phone useable for me.
The only major issue I have is that it seems incompatible with the whole Touchflo interface. The touchflo will not open my videos or, photos or music files any more. I cannot use the Touchflo shortcuts and it seems I am also unable to set an MP3 as my ringtone/alarm etc.
Is there something I could change to make this work?
I am busy with work for the next few days but will see if I can upload this ROM on the weekend.
Hello everybody. New to the site, but learning a lot.
I purchased a Chinese an unlocked android phone from Taiwan, LKD L8, and I thought I was supposed to be able to swap SIM cards pretty easily. When I got it to the US, I was originally on T-mobile. Recently I tried switching carriers and when I put in a new SIM card I now have to enter a privacy password. I called both T-mobile and Ting and they both said it's a phone issue. Unfortunately I cannot find any tech support from the company. I tried resetting the device, but that does not remove the privacy password. I searched and I guess I'm not the only one with this problem. A suggested fix is that I flash the ROM. I can't find LKD L8 on this site, so I was wondering if I could flash a different ROM? From the little I know, I have to make sure the chipset is the same correct?
The specs on the L8 are very similar to the Samsung S5 I think.
L8 Specs:
WCDMA 850/1900/2100MHZ
Chipset MTK6592-1.7Ghz-Octa-Core
OS android 4.4.2
Sim Dual-SIM Dual-Standby
Gravity Sensor yes
Distance Sensor yes
GPS yes
FM yes
USB 5 pin mini
What do you all think? Could I flash it with the Samsung ROM?
Thanks for your help. I tried other forums, but this site seems to be the best.
Up to date I've counted three (or four?) different version of Moto Z Griffin (excluding Force/Sheridan and Play which are different phones...)
This is what I've understood (please note: I could be wrong! This thread is here to get more & correct informations...)
Variants found:
XT1650-01 this should be Verizon "Droid" customized version. It has (b)locked bootloader, customized software and very limited LTE support for non-Verizon carriers even if it is NOT SIM locked. I don't know if other North American versions will be marked this way...
XT1650-03 this is the UK version (EDIT: all international unlocked versions seem to be coded this way...). This has an unlockable bootloader by Motorola web site (voiding warranty... ) best LTE support (B20 too...) and it is NOT SIM locked (EDIT: exist even SIM locked on some markets). I don't know if models that will come out in other EU countries will have same code...
XT1650-05 this is the Chinese (far east?) version. This exists for sure in double-sim version (single SIM too?), it has unlockable bootloader (like -03), medium LTE support (B20 seems not to be supported...) and it is NOT SIM locked too.
Even if quite different from -03, TWRP and boot.IMG seems to be interchangeable between the two (to be confirmed!).
This what I know as today (and I could be wrong, ok?).
As you can see, here lacks at least XT1650-02 & XT1650-04 that I've not found everywhere... (EDIT: they should be both Force editions...)
All integrations & corrections are welcome! :fingers-crossed:

The rooting method provided recently.. does that work with the Verizon Moto Z?
I purchased the moto z XT1650-03 with AT&T in México, and comes with locked sim, i already unlocked the bootloader following the instrictions of motorola site.

Thank you for your info. Do you know if your specific model support LTE B20?
It seems that only XT1650-01 Verizon's Droid edition is clocked @2,2GHz, while unlocked ones (XT1650-03, XT1650-05 &, perhaps, unlocked XT1650-01 if North Americans unlocked models will be marked this way too) are clocked @1,8 GHz...
Confirms about this?

Great question...
Motorola Mexico web site?
Is this band used by Mexico carriers?
I bought mine on Amazon Mexico this week, is the white/gold model with three moto mods and the model is the XT1650-03, is SIM unlocked and, I didn't know this, but is double SIM ready!!! . I don't want to unlock the bootloader yet until some development will arrive.
Which is the diference between griffin and sheridan? I ask this because i'm confused, i was playing around with my moto z (not force), flashing some roms and boot.img what i found in this forums, and now when i put the Phone in fastboot mode, the info says i have a sheridan and don't know and don't remember if always was a sehiran. Or was a griffin and after flash one of the roms changed it from griffin to sheridan haahaha
The roms that i've flashed are for griffin and my Phone works fine.
PD. Sorry for my english i used google translator
As already reported in another thread Motorola has done a big mess with codeames and model numbers...
At least the unlocked Moto Z's are all Griffins even if on bootloader page are reported as Sheridans too (and on some sites too...). I don't know if locked Verizon's Moto Z are considered Griffin too (but they are Sheridans for sure).
Ley me add that about model numbers, XT1650-02 and XT1650-04 should be both Force editions (I don't know differences between the two... )
Updated OP with some European specific part numbers.

XT1650-03 Is also US Unlocked model (Firmware does say Griffin, but Bootloader says Sheridan)
So basically everything seems to be XT1650-03 except for Eastern Chinese 05 model and VZW 01 model.

Hi all, need advice on a Moto Z China version. I recently purchased this phone and it does not comes with Google Play Services and unfortunately the device prevent you from manually install them into the phone (the services stopped automatically).
Is there a way to install it ? Need advice from all gurus.
Thanks,
Wind
*Opening a new thread for the question*
Updated OP with French versions (dual sim!)
Updated OP with Mexican & Indian versions (all 64 GB, all Dual SIM!)
Updated OP with Norway/Nordic versions (Dual SIM!)
Updated OP with Spanish versions... probably dual SIM.
I've received an unconfirmed info that Italian unbranded versions SM4421xxxH1 are dual SIM too (two IMEI reported on the box...)!
On Motorola.it web site they say single SIM like UK version...
Someone who can confirm or not about this?
Hey guys,
I just bought a German Moto Z XT1650-03 for a great price. But I just found out that this version doesn't support dual-sim. Is there any way to Patch dual-sim by flashing a Rom or something like that ?

I doubt that. I'm sure it's a hardware limitation. But, I am guessing.
Edit : I am not sure, but there's this thread, https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/how-to/guide-to-enable-dualsim-singlesim-t3594529
No idea if it will help though.
Yes, it is possible , see my thread

Hey guys, how you all doing?
A few months back i messed up and hard bricked my phone (Moto X 2nd gen) doing an OTA update. The company wanted to charge me with 250 bucks, so i bought a new phone. (moto Z play)
The other day I got an email from AliExpress where they were selling a new motherboard for 20 bucks. So I got it to fix my "old" phone.
Everything worked perfectly, but when I started the phone, everything was in chinese, even the android version..
Being the chinese version, it doesn't have Gapps and it doesn't allow to use my native language (Spanish).
So my question is: Could I flash the Spanish stock rom or would it brick again? I just want to have a phone just in case mine breaks or something. I want to be able to get OTA updates and all, but with the Spanish version of the OS.
I hope you can help me. Thank you very much for your time and for future responses.
Cheers!

Yes you can but your phone becoming a brick depends on whether you screw up while flashing the os.
If you can then pls invest your time in another motherboard since I have heard that Chinese motherboards aren't that good because some are fake etc..
Have a nice day!
