Google Photos hangs, chews up battery? - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Anybody having problems with Google Photos on the Mate 10 (not pro)?
I have yet to successfully upload a photo off the device. The app just hangs at "getting photos" or "preparing to upload". It's doing something, because it chewed up 10% of my battery in about 15 minutes.
I tried clearing data, force closing the app and reverting updates, and multiple restarts. Currently have the app disabled.
Thanks!

Just an update, this problem appears to be specifically related to the SD card. When I remove the card and clear the app data, the app works normally. When I reinstall the card I hit "skip" so that none of the SD card folders are backed up. The app is fine until I take a photo (not stored on SD card). As soon as it tries to get the photo to upload it, the app hangs.

Clock(process com.tapntap.clock2 not working

Anybody else have a problem that the built in clock app has stopped working?
I get this message:
The Application Clock (process com.tapntap.clock2) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
I like that clock.
EDIT: All of my applications started failing one by one.
Forced Closes on Weather, Clock, Photos etc.
Sometimes with the USB plugged in it would see all the files on the internal SD card. Other times it would say the SD card was empty.
Sometimes with the USB unplugged ES File system would see the internal SD card as empty.
Sometimes it would see the files and the sample photos I downloaded and sometimes it would not.
This all started for no apparent reason at around 5:00 PM today.
I deleated all my downloaded files and I had to do a factory reset and lose all my data.
After that reboot, everything is working again for now. I bet others will have problems after the last VS upgrade to 3389.
I had exactly the same thing
Follow the instructions "[FAQ] Why are so many applications randomly force closing"
Cured it
Just a thought. One reset was enough for me. I put all gTab bookmarks into a very straight-forward simple HTML page that is now my gTablet homepage. If I bookmark a site on the gTablet, I soon add it to the HTML page. (I also do that for all my bookmarks collected over the years.) The pages take very liitle within the free space provided by my ISP. And I swept all the apk files off to a single directory on my laptop and additionally backed that directory to an external drive. Advantages? I never have to redo bookmarks or go looking for install files. I can change tablets in just a few minutes. Hope that helps.

You can find , when you go on google.com
Had the same problem and Dashboard will just say "Please wait" and will not respond. A "factory reset" helped me to fix this issue...

[Q] FC when adding photos to album

Does anyone else experience a force close of the Gallery when they attempt to add a photo to an album? I.E - Gallery.. Pick a picture.. Menu.. Add to album.
Thanks,
Rick
I am having force close issues and problems saving pictures when I was saving to my SD card. I switched to internal storage and everything is now fixed.

Could it be the sd Card? What card do you have?

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I am having this issue. Has anyone found a fix?
I have tried, moving pics over to internal storage, formatting sd card and moving back, and even taking a new picture. So far no luck
I never found a fix, and MR5 did not appear to fix the problem either.. This happens if my photos are stored on internal memory, or on a card..
guess I will hit the motor phoroms in the morning. Thanks for the update.
Just wanted to update this. I also ran into the issue of not being able to record videos as well, or them being deleted if it did record.
A few hard resets later and i found a work around. Hard reset and clear cache, and only add your google account. then open the camera and set up the sd card etc. then go into gallery and add a pic and make an album. After that is should work. I am not sure if it the camera not searching the sd card or adding facebook that causes it, but this is what has worked for me on 3 occasions now.

Losing Apps At Restart

Has anyone experienced apps that become uninstalled because you restarted the phone? It has happened twice and both times the phone had been running for several days. If I restart it right away to try and duplicate it, it does not seem to happen. Doesn't seem to be related to apps that get installed into phone memory versus internal. Last time it happened there were about 20-30 apps that were uninstalled. They still have shortcuts on the desktop but would just pop up this app is not installed when I would go to use it. Very annoying to have to re-install that many apps! Thanks for any help!
I haven't noticed that but did notice some apps i freeze in titanium seem to unfreeze on reboot. Maybe the issues are related to the stock ROM somehow.
Random Uninstalled apps would be a lot more annoying though.
Thanks for the reply! It is very annoying. Would fast boot have anything to do with it?
I've also noticed a few apps uninstalling themselves.

Did it happen right after a restart?
Well, I think it is fixed but not sure which change fixed it. I uninstalled appBrain, app2SD and turned off fast boot. None of these were issues with the OG EVO. I wonder if app2SD was causing issues now that there is phone storage and external SD?
Well, it did it again. This is getting old fast. No one else has this issue? Guess it's time for a factory reset.
I've had this issue with the 3D and hope not to have it with this phone. Another restart usually fixed it.

I had that issue all the time with my Samsung Galaxy E4GT. I haven't seen that going on with my Evo 4G LTE.. Hope I don't start having it..
OK, so it will definitely fix itself if I reboot again. It's almost like if you try to use something too soon after a reboot it gets hosed. I have no idea what that is, but if I try to use the phone too soon after reboot it seems to have the issue. And the issue stays even if I wait a long time so it's not that it hasn't had enough time to read everything. Very annoying! Original EVO did not have this issue for me.
Well, this time restarting did not fix it. I restarted many times and shutdown. All the apps this is happening to are now shown as com.appname.xxxxx So com.pandora.android or com.google.earth as examples. So the system still has them in the apps downloaded under settings but if you run them it says they are not installed. Will try hard reset and if that doesn't work, back to the Sprint store it will go.
Did you try turning off fast boot? The speed of the fast boot, even during reboot, makes me think that its not a full cold reboot. The way that fast boot works is that it puts the phone in to a low power sleep mode, which some apps have problems with.
Are you sure the app is completely gone? What happens if you go in to the app management menu when the app appears to be missing from the app drawer? I have a problem like this occasionally where stuff disappears from the app drawer for ADW EX, and a restart of the launcher did the trick, which is why a reboot helps for sense, because that does force the launcher to rescan for apps present to repopulate the app drawer.

Are that apps that are disappearing happened to be moved to Phone Storage instead of Internal Storage?
You have to have the card GET formatted by the phone & move the apps using the built-in method .vs Apps2SD.
I think it's more of an ICS thing, I had the same thing happen to music & photos until I did the above.

Yes, fast boot is off. App still appears in the apps under settings as downloaded buy now either has a com. in front or an org. and then the app name etc... I can uninstall it at that point. The shortcut on the desktop just doesn't work and it is missing from the app area of the phone.

Yes, I believe all the apps this is happening with are in phone storage but it does not happen to all apps in phone storage. Many of them are fine.

I did try using only the built-in method the last two times and thought it had fixed the issue. Obviously it did not. I will try formatting the card with the phone before I do the hard reset. The apps are not stored on the card right? Only in internal or phone storage? Or can apps install themselves to the external? I don't see a way to move them. I am not having any issues with photos, music, etc.. on the external.
Can I just copy everything off the card, format it, and then copy it back on? Or should I only copy music, photos, etc.. and not system folders?
Thanks to all you guys for all the help!

OK, now I have erased all data on the card using the phone itself but I do not see anything to format it. Is erasing and preparing all I need to do?

Q: "No Photos Found" [SOLVED] when using camera gallery icon.

Okay, I noticed I had a huge amount of photos and videos, so I copied and pasted the folders under DCIM to my PC.
Today when i went to take new pictures, I hit the gallery icon at the lower right to review one of them, and it takes me to a page that flashes "camera shots" I think at the top real quick, and then ALBUMS with an arrow pointing down.
It used to show my recent pictures here, but now it shows...
"No photos found"
I've rebooted, I've cleared the camera and gallery settings, but this still exists. Pictures I've taken today are in the appropriate folders, the SD card is mounted, and there isn't a nomedia file in the folder. Help?
I hate gallery. It always does stupid junk like that. If you use USB disk transfer, you have to reboot before it recognizes the external SD. Sometimes, you just have to leave it alone for a few minutes and it will fix itself.
Thanks, yeah, it's been a few days, and about 12 reboots.
They show up in gallery, just not when I hit that shortcut icon.
I take that back, they are NOT showing up in the gallery, but they show up in ES File Explorer.
I also tried clearing HTC Sense settings, no good.
I tried wipe data through Titanium Backup, no help.
Anyone?

That did it! Thank you so much, I was really stumped.
I wonder why that worked, and why I didn't think of it?

photos delete themselves

occasionally (not every day, not every photo, sometimes not even the same photo) on day reset (internal clock 00:00) photos delete themselves from my gallery app. conditions to keep in mind:
-google drive back up disabled, google drive uninstalled
-google photos back up disabled, google photos app uninstalled
-samsung+ not connected, samsung cloud backup disabled
-generic cloud back up disabled
-its not my norton junk cleaner clearing out photos
-its not the Settings>device maintenance cache clear/free up space or optimization tools
(have considerations and settings set so none of these deletes or has access to photos)
and as per norton scan i have no viruses, malware or ransomware.
photos could be recovered by rooting data recovery process but thats not the issue.
the issue is why are photos being deleted( directory file state set to free space) on day change?
the only two things ive been able to determine are that its a problem with either android OS or the stock gallery app itself. how do i debug and fix this?
SDcard?
no on sim card internal memory

nope just on normal sim card internal memory. havent added the SD card yet.
I'd reset the phone and if it continues I'd put it down to faulty internal memory then

I started noticing pictures/photos disappearing and SOME pictures half-greyed out about a month ago. The problem first appeared close to the time I received a system update. I had 334 pictures stored on my PC and copied onto my SD Card. I now have 84 of those original pictures still on the SD Card, but I can't see some pictures and others are half-greyed out. What is going on is beyond me, but a Google search found the issue reported on several sites, but the problem is not only with the S9 series, but also the S8. So far the best recommendation is to uninstall updates to the Gallery. I'm testing it now. However, I can't copy pictures from my PC onto the SD card for some reason. So, more research is needed.
