I can't seem to get my phone to detect OTG USB Drives correctly..
Just purchased this Kingston USB C Drive on Amazon
It works just fine on my LGV20 and other Android phones, so i know the drive it self is not defective. It keeps reverting back to "charging device" even after settings it to "transfer files". Anyone else experiencing this? Wondering if it's an Oreo issue or Samsung specific
Are you using the bundled OTG adapter?
---------- Post added at 07:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:27 PM ----------
In any case if you are using a third party adapter that is the most likely culprit. Those things are notorious for their unreliability.
Tried the included adapter and third party. Same behaviour. The Kingston USB Drive is usb type c male which plugs in directly in the port without a need for an adapter. Except it doesn't work...
were you able to fix the otg issued you were having? same issue here
Having exactly the same problem
Hello! I'm also having the same problem. I am using the original OTG connector that came with the box. Model is SM-G965F/DS
Hi!
Any update about this issue?
Same problem here
Same device purchased, same issue. Help plz.
Same issue here. Bought two usb otg kingston . One from 16gb other of 32gb. It recognizes only the 32gb one.
I've looked everywhere and I can't find an answer to this. I am using the bundled OTG adapter from Samsung with my S9+ and trying to connect any of several USB externals/sticks (Most needed: Sandisk 32GB Cruzer Dial). Can't seem to get it working. Samsung "Files" doesn't see it and when I plug it in to the OTG, my ES Explorer recognizes a device being plugged in, but says it needs to be reconnected and cannot see the device. Any help would be great, *Cough Samsung*.
Side note, the included Earbuds didn't work either so I kind of wonder how much effort they put into the peripherals...

Actually, funny enough I looked to see if there were any Android/ISP updates and there was one. Not sure if it helped, but after it installed and rebooted, I plugged the USB stick back in and this time I got a pop-up asking to format the drive. Guess it's working now!
I've been trying to find information about this on the web but I've failed to do so.
I bought a Kingston Micro duo USB C 3.0 and it worked a couple of times (I had to manually change to MTP) using the USB C connector straight on my S9+.
I've been trying to get it working again on my phone with no luck. Everytime I connect the USB C end on my phone, it will show on the notification tray "Usb charging device" and "USB connector connected", this last one will disappear in a matter of seconds.
I've set the default to be MTP using Developer Options and even select MTP for the device once it connects, but it just reverts its status.
I know for a fact the USB C end works because I can connect it to my computer (Windows and MacOS) and I've tried formatting it using a lot of different formats, still when I connect the USB C to the device it doesn't read it.
I managed to get the drive working using my USB C dongle (Which has 2 USB A 3.0, but no power passthrough) and connecting the USB A side to it and my phone recognized the drive instantly! So I formatted the drive using my phone, connected the USB C end on the device and it doesn't recognize it.
It seems it's just a bug on the Samsung device or something. I guess Samsung is moving towards USB C but they are not thinking on all the stuff you can connect.
I found this link https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...g-defaults-to-charge-other-device/td-p/183539 and this other https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/help/note-8-usb-otg-t3680207 but so far no solution.
Seems to be resolved by an update
I was having issues with the original one for my s9+, my stepdad has an s8+ and his one worked fine with my phone. A week ago my brother got a note 9, so i tried that otg and it worked fine, went back and tried my original one which also worked fine. There must have been an update or something that fixed it.

Hello All,
All your devices are working fine. The problem with all OTG issues are all related to what version of Samsung Software Update you have. The problem is created by Samsung Software Update and it will be fixed only by Samsung Software Update unfortunately. Complain directly to Samsung to fix this bug once and for all to look into OTG part of their update before launching a new one to avoid this continues issues. Remember every issues in this entire thread about OTG can only be fixed by Samsung Software Update to new one or going back to your older Samsung Software version.

Hi anybody have solutions for it? I bought a random OTG type C reader and a Samsung memory card. It works on every comp and s8+, huawei phones but it just doesnt work on all the samsung s9/s9+ I tried.. please help!!
Fixed update!!
Yo mine had this issue as well.
I just went to storage and clean everything using the optimizer (not th one for th battery).
N it worked?
Possible fix
Install es file explorer. When you plug in usb to otg you should get a pop up asking to open with es file explorer. Do it... Almost everytime it will connect. Worked for me as I was having same problem.

Did it work before you flashed angelrom?
i didnt try it before my friend....today i bought the converter from micro usb to usb......so...is there any service that maybe did not is enable in the custom rom....and cant run the usb host....
It's unlikely that it's the ROM, as this is a feature that many people use.
It may be that what you are trying to use simply doesn't work. Do you have a USB mouse you could try? Also, is the device that you are connecting powered, or does it expect power from the USB connection?
well...i connect 3 devices... a keyboard...a mouse...and a usb strage stick....
and no led...power on...of the devices
In that case, I suggest you ask on the thread where you got the ROM. Have you already searched that thread to see if anyone else has the same problem?
i did a quick search...but i didnt find anything important...well ok my friend thx....

don't bother checking with more devices or posting in the rom thread, you just bought the wrong cable for otg purposes.
a simple converter from micro usb to usb won't do, the sgs2 discovers connected devices by the resistor between pin 4 and 5 of the micro usb plug inserted, and afaik, a usb otg cable needs a 200k resistor (if you decide to weld one in yourself, double check the number against other threads, i am not sure about that). simple converters, adapters and even some "usb otg" marked cables don't have a resistor in there.
and if the correct resistor is present in the plug, the device should discover the cable when plugged in, and then you can connect any device afterwards and get another notification. (as is seen in the usb otg video in the accessories section.)
i hope you did not pay too much on that cable, or have the possibility to return it for a refund or exchange, because yours has little to no known uses.
Thanks Chef, I didn't know that. That's the "something new" that I learnt today
thx my friend..i give 4 euro for this ****...but its ok....

Since many of us plan to upgrade to a Honeycomb release, we may be interested in the USB host feature.
This brings up the question of the HTC 12pin micro USB port.
Question: If we can use a standard micro USB for typical data transfer purposes, can we also use the standard 5pin micro USB cables to attach things like mice, keyboards, and card readers?
I am thinking this might be a valuable adaptor??

USB host alone would be worth an upgrade - for me.
Apparently, USB host is not enabled in the Official HTC HC releases. We are looking into how to enable it for rooted ROM. When that is accomplished it will be posted on the forum. When software enabled the cable will be a standard connector micro-USB , possibly needing an OTG cable. In addition to the cable and software, you will require a powered hub to connect devices as the Flyer cannot supply power through the USB connector

I am very sad because my honeycomb flyer can not detect the flash disc, usb mouse and usb keyboard, though already using Belkin powered hub! Now I use mwakious rom because it is the smoothest of all the existing custom rom.
DigitalMD, is there any custom rom based on latest leak rom from globatron that can run current USB Host? Why the USB HC can not enable USB Host but the HC first leak can do it?
I am confused because on the official HTC rom there are also USB storage settings.
Without USB Host, then HC Flyer lost one of its greatest benefits than gingerbread. This problem must be solved immediately. Is it possible that official rom will be updated again?
Thank you for your help!
---------- Post added at 08:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:27 PM ----------
Now we can conclude that the USB Host is not supported by the official HC on the Flyer and View!
USB host was not available on the official OTA final either GB or HC. You cannot say it has been lost, because officially it was never there. It has been sneaked into some custom ROMs and the HC leak initially. There will be HC custom ROMs coming and we are looking into re -enabling USB Host, but it was never a generally available feature so its not considered a bug and I would not expect HTC to ever support it official since it cannot be used without an externally powered device (such as a powered hub) since the Flyer cannot supply power through the USB and this would lead to a multitude of support request calls emails etc.
If you have a favorite custom ROM developer, talk with them about adding USB host support.
But understand the limitations of USB host on Android. Most things other than USB hard drive support can be accomplished via other means in a simpler fashion I.e Bluetooth keyboard, mouse, etc. The USB host support in Android is very basic, you cannot just plug in any device and expect it to work, special devices need special drivers which are not going to be available in Android. Pretty much for now you can use things that act like keyboard, mouse or mass storage formatted Fat32 and not much else. having to use an external power source really takes the convenience factor out.
I use a Bluetooth keyboard and a Bluetooth mouse. I use Dropbox to store my files that i need to sync with in the cloud. Only occasionally do I miss the direct USB connection to large mass storage.
shoot....I incorrectly thought that host was enabled in Honeycomb. Oh, well, guess I'll wait and see what ROMS come out. Now I'm not in such a hurry to update to HC.
I think HC removed support for USB host because they did not want to deal with support for it when people tried to use it and found most devices would not work without external power and the the endless questions "will this device work?" no, will this , no, etc..
Since the hardware does not support a full USB host (no power) its just too much trouble to say its a real feature from HTC's standpoint . Just asking for trouble

I haven't gone back to the stock kernel since recompiling the source but I have my suspicions that it is there, and if not it's easy to compile it in. I've gotten side-tracked on the view hboot for now but I'll get back to it when I'm done with that.

Direct USB connection is the simplest way to interact with many basic peripheral. Many people just don't know where to buy dedicated powered hub, so they don't use it! But it's very easy using a powered hub and does not add the slightest inconvenience. We will be very understand of the USB Host limitation, as well as the limitations of other handhelds supported USB Host, although they can provide additional power to the USB.
So, please, make it enable again on Honeycomb Flyer. Thank you in advance.
As DigitalMD, I also prefer to use Bluetooth peripherals as I hate carrying a multitude of cables around. For Storage, I use a modified DIR-685 with a 1Tb hard drive as it is also my hotel firewall. You could use a http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/external/external-hard-drive/goflex-satellite.
But I really think HTC have just erred with USB host.
If they disabled it, why leave it showing in Settings Storage why not remove it as in GB?
They will get more customer complaints for a non-function rather than a missing function!
solar powered usb hub
I found a solar powered usb hub on amazon that I hope will work nicely when usb host finally gets enabled. I'd post the link, but I am too n00b, it says. At amazon if you search "solar powered usb hub" its the first link. Once usb host is enabled it at least removes the annoying tether to a power outlet.

Yeah its just my own opinion that HTC pulled the option at the last second on the final release because its was in the earlier leaks. But I just think they saw a raft of calls coming because the interface won't even power most small thumb drives. I'd like to see it working, but its not really of much use.
I did a search and found that no one has posted this problem on this forum - I'm the only one ??
My prime use to hooked up with my PC with no problems. At some point recently (I'm thinking the recent ICS update) my PC & Prime had a parting of ways. Now I plug in the Prime and get 'USB device not recognized'.
Downloaded and ran Asus Sync hoping that a driver vanished but no luck.
I'm running Windows 7 (64 bit). Has anyone else noticed the same problem and if so - how did you fix it ?
Thanks
I have three computers, and none of them even recognize my prime anymore, not even in Device Manager. This started after I got it back from RMA.
I, myself, am not particularly concerned about it, since I'm just waiting for the Infinity to come out; the Prime I will just pass on to a family member. If the Infinity was going to be released in the far flung future, I'd send it back.

hey everyone, and I'm so happy to see this thread, but have you guys had similar issues to Mines?
Hello Everyone, I'll try to short and to the point. I've been searching xda/google/androidcentral on and off since maybe early Februrary and still nothing, maybe someone has some awesome insight.
So my computer won't detect my TP anymore for file transfer. It did maybe the first month or so though.
Here's what I've tried so far, with no luck.
- Different Computers - Different Cables - New Asus Brand OEM USB Cable - Aftermarket USB Cable - Different USB Ports (Front and Back of Computer) - USB Debugging Mode - Uninstalled Drivers on my PC to try and get table to re-install it. - Factory Reset (multiple times with and without auto-backup) - Connecting From KeyboardDock to Computer
I convinced my cousin to buy a TP and Dock the other week so I also got to try some extra stuff.
- I plugged His TP with His USB cable to His PC and it connected fine.
- I plugged His TP with His USB cable to MY PC and it connected fine.
- I plugged MY TP with His USB cable to His PC and it wouldn't detect.
- I plugged MY TP with His USB cable to MY PC and it wouldn't detect.
I also tried his TP with my USB cables (both oem and aftermarket) on my PC and it connected fine.
Here's Some additional Info, that may be helpful.
I was previously able to connect to my HDMI ports on my TV via micro HDMI, but that does not work anymore either.
I've seen a few people mention serial numbers, so here's some Info, not sure if it's the correct info.
My TP - TF201-B1-CG - S/N starts with a "B" His TP - TF201-B1-GR - S/N starts with a "C"
I thank you all for your time and any insight is much appreciated.
Called ASUS support - I'm the first that they have ever heard that problem. They suggested a factory reset but first I must back the data up. Never done a factory reset, I hope Voodoo will keep the root.
When I finally try it - I'll let you know what happens.
Cool thanks NewbieKeepItSimple, I hope we get this sorted ou!
Hey everyone, I have some more interesting info regarding the USB issue. I didn't want to suspect this as a problem, but yea it looks like it may be an actual bad port on the TFP itself.
My reasoning is that I got my free GPS dongle in the mail today and it won't work. Anyone else test this yet?
Another Question, as far as RMAs go, do we HAVE to call in? Anyone know for sure? I know there's forums, but trying to kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Yep, charges fine. I couldn't see anything obviously wrong with cables and connectors.
As far as trying universal naked driver, I'm pretty sure drivers aren't the issue since I tried a whole different TFP with the same computers and cables (stated above) and it connected and installed the drivers correctly.

My Prime was sync'd at work with my contacts and I put movies on from my home PC. Now neither PC can communicate with the Prime.
There is somethings with the Prime and USB ports that seem a little goofy. I have a USB memory on my keychain that I use for my work files. One of the things I wanted to do with the Prime is access and work on my files during business trips. The work USB memory is 4GB Fat 32 but the Prime can't see it even though all other computers can see it. Plug in an older 2GB memory - the Prime can see it. Plug in my Apple iPhone - the Prime can see it. Plug in some other USB memories no problem but my work USB is invisible.
I really can't see any reason for the Prime to suddenly become invisible to computers but I will try the factory reset once I get my memory 64GB SDcard next week.

that's so frustrating. factors reset didn't work for me but I'm wishing luck to you.
Ok.. something to try before going directly to wiping your Prime...
First, try plugging it into a different USB port. This will cause the PC to try and load a new driver.
If that fails, click Start, right click on Computer and select Manage. Look for an entry called "Portable Devices" and under that "Transformer Prime TF201".
If you don't have that at all, then the system has failed to identify the device entirely.. try it with another PC (take it to a Best Buy and plug it in.. ). If it fails there, then something has changed in your Prime. If you've flashed the ROM, it's possible that's the problem.
If you DO see the entry, but the PC isn't recognising it - right click on the entry for the Prime and select 'Uninstall'. On the dialogue box that pops up, check "Delete the driver software for this device" and let it do its thing.
Unplug the Prime, then plug it back in. It should download a new driver for the Prime. Hopefully this will fix the problem.
I've never heard of an Android device's ADB USB port failing - it's entirely possible of course - but we have five here.. which is pretty amazing.

I'm not holding out much hope either but who knows. The ASUS is rooted but I haven't flashed anything. Another tack I tried is using the just the tablet then keyboard connection but both give the same results.
If I'm connecting to two different spots that on the Prime (dock/Tablet) and there are two different interfacing chip sets involved. Maybe it is a software bug that is screwing up how the Prime addresses the USB (protocol).

Can anyone confirm if the USB host feature works with the Galaxy S3.
Specifically, I'm interested in attaching a USB Keyboard to the device.
After upgrading from honeycomb to ICS on my wife's Galaxy S2 I found that the USB Host function no longer works and I can no longer connect a USB keyboard. (It used to work rather well).
After checking the XDA forums I see that I must root the phone and use another kernel which I'd rather not do given that the S2 is not my phone.
I'll be picking up the Galaxy S3 once the Blue-32gb arrives here in Taiwan so I'm also wondering if anyone can say whether or not the USB Host function works and if anyone has tried out a USB keyboard.
Any advice would be swell
Thanks

After upgrading to ICS on my wife's S2 the phone continues to read USB Flash drives just fine, but it could not (cannot) read any other devices including USB Keyboards or a USB Mouse.
I want to be able to use my fold-able ASUS USB Keyboard to type documents on the G3 and from what I've seen, the screen is plenty big to be able to make my dream of 'ultra-portable' document typing a reality.
This, plus the fact that I haven't found any fold-able Blue Tooth keyboard that seems to work very well with the S2.

Has anyone else experienced this issue. I've contacted their support but they haven't gotten back yet.
