Is it safe to keep the phone with the screen turned over? - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

hi guys, i never used the phone with the screen turned over when i put it on a table or another surface. i don't use screen protector and i want to understand if i can put the phone with the screen turned over without the risk of scratching it or damaging it. thanks

Just make sure you have a case with raised corners, so you screen does not touch the surface directly...

Then you can get scratches easily...

I thought that the screen was very resistent for daily use like this

Small dust particles or misc objects can still easily create microscopic scratches easily. Get a screen protector. I got mine 1 day too late as I got a tiny scratch on my screen on my 2nd day from my keys. I was utterly annoyed and disappointed.

I never used screen protector, I don't like them since they make the screen look artificial. I prefer to enjoy the screen as it is and be careful where I put it

Maybe you have better luck than me. Or at least our surrounding environments or habits are different. I don't like having a protector either, I don't like the way it feels. In between my home and office, I'm often surrounded by hard materials like tile and I throw my phone into bags a lot with my keys so I have to have one unfortunately.

Clear tempered glass (the one you actually expected)

There are several threads on this topic, yet mostly contain something other than one expects:
not a thin film
not with dot matrix
not colored on top and bottom
adheres fully and not just on top and bottom
full coverage, not only in the center where screen is flat
great visibility (when adheres fully, there should be that "bubble going under the glass" when applying)
great touch sensitivity when fully adhered, no space between glass and phone
I've read through all major threads on this topic and found this so far. I would really love some more input from you guys on these protectors.

Yes really. There are already 3 threads that serve no purpose at all. There are several types of protectors mentioned there and they are all sub-par. Those 2 mentions I've found are the actual screen protectors people have in mind when talking about "tempered glass screen protectors", not some workaroundish dot matrix plastics with adhesives that fall off after 2 weeks of usage.

Whats the purpose of this thread then? The same as those ones. What goes on in those threads: Q: How is X protector? A: Crap, dot matrix. What is going to happen here: Q: How is X protector? A: Crap, dot matrix.
Same thread. Different name. Less information.

Hi. I have received mine but not tried it on. I'm so happy with my plastic screen protector right now and I don't won't to take it of for now. If I get a scratch ore if it get loose I will try this one . From what I have seen on this it looks good but it's seems like it will not attach on the sides because the protector film don't go all the way out on the sides. Hopefully this other guy that bought this can share his impressions soon.

Fit and Finish

Anyone noticed any fit and finish 'issues'?
I've noticed that the primary camera is not centered relative to the bezel. Doesn't impact capability/performance, but is unexpected for a phone at this price point.
I can also call out the glass to metal frame interface is not "seamless". There's a growing accumulation of dust that is not easy to remove.
Any others noting these sort of things?

I own three of these phones and don't notice such things, no. Two V30 and V30+.
The two cameras are proportionally centered over the back fingerprint sensor, as they should be. So, I don't see what you are talking about.

The dust/water resistance on this phone is IP68 (higher than Apple's iPhones, higher than Google's Pixel XL) -- so your dust is not getting into the phone. The 6 is for dust, the 8 is for water.
Devices backed by an international standard rating of IP68 are deemed fit enough to withstand dust, dirt and sand, and are resistant to submersion up to a maximum depth of 1.5m underwater for up to thirty minutes.

If you have any accumulated dust, you can always wash it off under the faucet.
No need for the product sales pitch - this is not my first premium phone and I've done my share of studying over my decade + on these forums. This was meant as a harmless question. Sorry to kick everyone's dog on this. Very glad to hear I'm the only one with these QC items.
Back to your caves.
Cheers

Plastic chaffing on corners

Brand new s9+ day one.
Opened it to find the plastic on the corners to be unsightly and partially pealing off.
Any advice?
EU model
Send it back if you can. Or live with it. Sorry.
Puzzled here.
What parts of the phone's exterior - corners or otherwise - are made of plastic?

Not the corners themselves. There is a plastic covering them. It's unsightly, but i'll live with it
Oh, do you probably mean the protective film which was on there?
Could just peel the plastic off. It's a protective layer same as you get on front and back.
You are supposed to peel those off.

I wish I could peel it off.
yeah you peel them off lol
Yeah those are protective coverings you have to peel them off which can be a bit tough lol
Start near the button's and drag them out with your fingernail; don't apply to much pressure, just drag it of repeatedly until you can get it.
Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk
Just grab it top to bottom and pull. Best places to peel off are where the layer ends at like speaker port. Volume keys and so on. If you have big fingers and can't grip it maybe get some tweezers bit be careful not to scratch your new phone. Failing that just keep using the phone it will come off.

Did you end up getting one? If yes can you post some pictures?
Don't buy these cheap "magnetic frames". The magnets around make the compass unusable and the steel frame lowers GPS signal. Like really much.
Bought this one https://www.wish.com/product/5b3b41dec56f8902645428fa
And there are GPS signals with and without frame.
My phone looks kinda ok..
The case while it looks likes, doesnt have the lip to stop the front and back side of the phone from touching the table. I got a tempered glass for the front, this one was fairly think so pressing the home button you can really feel the thinkness. I got the slickwrap naked series for the back, didnt want to hide the colorful Twilight color and it does come with the camera glass cover also, so it does provide some cover from scratches.
All in all, I enjoy this setup. I have provided links.

Hardware Durability?

I had my Mi A3 (European) for less than a month, and had it in the most protective case I could find. Somehow, the back glass got broken.
Have others found it to be unusually delicate?
I REALLY like the device, otherwise.

May I ask what case you were using?
if it went down or hit it somewhere and touched the sensitive point then it happened.
I am not have any problem with stock silicon case after 2 drops.
I don't like cases in general, but bought some hard shell on Ali just because Mi A3 is like a piece of soap in shower. Already had one drop and so far so good, no cracks no scratches.
It is not that delicate, gorilla glass 5 at the front and back. Something sharp must have hit the phone, impact from a sharp thing can get through the case
That is a very good question. I'm currently running my 2nd Mi A3. Bought my first when it came out in August here , and around the end of october i dropped it from waist height . I was running a case , fairly soft ( little bit harder than the one provided with it) and a tempered glass screen protector . It landed on it's back , no flips at all during the fall. I pick it up , the screen was cracked INTERNALLY ONLY , on the top right corner, while the outside of the phone , including my tempered glass was intact , no scratches at all ....(of course warranty doesn't covers screens, although this crack was a little suspicious due to it's nature ). So, I'm led to thinking that it's durability is a little bit to the down side ....
Sapper Morton said:
It doesn't matter if it is Gorilla Glass 5 or just normal tempered glass, glass is glass and glass breaks; just don't drop it, nonetheless I recommend a good and robust case, I use a shockproof one; a friend of mine, bumped into my phone by accident, hitting a wall, then the ground, not a big impact, however the A3, remained intact.

You misunderstood me......The glass didn't break at all ...not the gront, not the back , not the protector ....the internal amoled panel broke .......from a drop an it's back WITH a case ...so yes, I think it is unusually delicate hahaha
