S9+ powers off when screen turns off - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

My S9+ will power off when the phone goes to sleep. I don't think it's a setting but not sure. It started after my phone got wet earlier today. After the screen is off it will power off about 5 seconds later. Has anybody else had something similar happen?

Mine just started doing the same thing last night. I thought maybe it was because I got it wet but I've gotten it wet plenty of times before without issue.

SGS2 not waking after locking screen

so heres the story:
when i lock the phone, the screen turns off as normal. but when i hit the power/home button to wake it and unlock it, nothing happens. literally, nothing happens. its as if the phone has turned itself off.
So whats happened is, I left the phone on the charger last night. it woke perfectly this morning when the alarm went off. no issues there.
I put the phone into my pocket and headed into work. i went to check my phone when i got on the bus and this was the first tme that I noticed that the phone wasnt waking. i eventually pulled the battery to get the phone to restart. i tried it again and the same thing happened.
later I made a phone call. the same thing happened again when i took the phone away from my head (the screen didnt restart, and I couldnt hit the End Call button cause there was none.)
since then, i've figured that to make sure the phone doesnt go to permanent sleep i have to do one of 2 things,
1) keep the phone music player running constantly, or
2) keep the phone connected to the usb charger.
clearly this isnt exactly practical for a mobile.
im not running any other Rom, its still the stock rom, android v 2.3.5, not rooted or anything else?
is this somethign anyone else has seen?
its called 'sleep of death' or SoD. some people has experienced this and some are able to fix it. it depends on what is causing it.
some blame it to the battery and the battery's contact point..
sometimes it fix itself after few reboots..
cheers for the info. Ill look into it and see if its worth trying to fix or just sending back.
no problem, i have this problem and cant do anything about it. i used load monitor to keep the phone awake, u/v a bit so it wont drain so much battery. but battery drainage still noticeable like 1% every 5 min..
just wondering, does it feels hot/warm near the camera lens when it happens? bcause mine does.
not particularly.
i finally got through to my provider and will be able to get it fixed/replaced soon. they just dont half drag their feet

[Q] Help With Permanent Screen Lock or Possible Battery Short

I woke up this morning, phone worked fine. Used it throughout the day, and then come about an hour ago, the screen will not turn on, nor respond to being plugged into the charger, whether USB through the PC or wall charger.
I know my battery was rather high, so it isn't dead. I had a friend call me and she informed me that my phone rang normally, then went to voicemail, but my phone didn't ring, nor vibrate, nor even light up. I can't tell if it's stuck locked or if the battery got knocked loose somehow or something else internal.
I haven't dropped it, there's no water damage, nothing of note that I'd think would cause this.
Is there any further troubleshooting one could suggest I do before I crack and get it replaced through ATT?

Sounds like BSoD (black screen of death). Try holding power button down for 15 seconds, release, and repeat.

That just happened to me this morning. I was at 90% the screen shut off and no response since. I tried the power button for 15 seconds then again nothing. So I proceeded to take the back cover off and do a battery pull still nothing. Any help would be great this is my only device and warranty department is not an option.
I had a similar issue after using a wonky charger. It bricked the phone. But sending it in to LG was no problem, and after a week without it, I get it back tomorrow.

Nexus 9 froze in the black.. No reeboot..

Went to work this morning have a case, my Nexus 9 was sleeping as I used it & worked fine when I got up.. Sleeping, with case close.. When I got home this afternoon it was dead.. No life what so ever.. Tried everything. Plugging unplugging, opening and shutting the case. Thinking this was the sleep of death routine I've heard about before on other devices.. and I've been able to wake my old Nexus 7 by messing with things like this.. Plugged it into power for a couple hours, as I took a nap. Woke up, tried again.. Nothing!
I ended up calling HTC, they had me do a trick they called battery reboot or some such.. Push down, Power, Volume down, Volume up, all at the same time., for 3 min.. I got to about 1 minute plus in I think, and it rebooted..
My question is.. what caused it to freeze if anyone knows and are tere other reported problems along these lines. I've had the thing all of 1 month plus 3 day's so this is a first and i'm just wanting to understand and learn from it.. see if there are any other reported problems along these lines??

Water Damaged Poco F1 - Charge light was flasing but won't turn on

Dropped my Poco F1 in the sink. I didn't turn it off immediately as it worked for ~30 minutes (this is stupid I know.) Eventually the screen stopped responding and turned off. I took it to a phone repair place who pulled the back off and dried it out mostly, but as they were unfamiliar with the phone didn't want to proceed further. It's since been 2 days since it got wet so i tried plugging it in. The charge light started flashing which was the first sign of life i'd seen from the phone. I tried turning it on, the screen came on with a faint black very briefly with a short vibration also. The phone promptly shut off again and now not even the charge light is showing anymore.
What would be the best thing to do from here? I thought about getting a replacement screen however it takes at least 2 weeks to ship to Australia from any of the vendors I've found online. Would the replacement screen be worth it, or is the issue something else?

It's completely damaged.
Screen got shorted out from the water and motherboard is damaged based off of the nonresponsiveness / partially damaged response of the Android OS.
It progressively got worse because the water caused corossion of the metal components.
Sad to say it's completely unsalvageable except maybe the camera.

Pocophone has no given IP Water Resistance Rating since Xiaomi launched the Pocophone, but only certified Splashproof rating. See the video on JerryRigEverything wherein he did a teardown video and saw all components of the Pocophone and proven no water protection in Type-c port, headphone jack, speakers, etc.
In your case, 30 minutes underwater? It is dead. You can salvage it but not everything.

It wasn't underwater for 30 minutes. It was only underwater for a few seconds, but it was working for about 30 minutes after it got wet, and then shut down completely. I have taken it to another repair tech who got it working again, it is responsive/vibrating however the screen is still dead. Any recommendations for a replacement screen?
Place it in a sealed bag full of rice for at least 24 hours.

Hello,
could you mabye say if the display replacement worked for your pocophone? I had exact the same accident (phone fell in 2-3 centimeter salt water, worked for 30 minutes, after then screen went off, charging light is working).
Now I know what sould have to do first: turn off the phone immediately. Second mistake, I did not save the holiday photos on external storage, just on internal.
All data maybe is lost...

Black screen but phone still fully functions?

I don't know what to do here, but his phone has never been dropped and it has never been wet. About a month ago this happened, started working again after about 4-6 hours. It randomly started working again. The screen has been black for about 36 hours now.
I am unsure if I can wipe the phone without being able to see anything on the screen. I am able to restart the phone and feel the vibration from the restart, but the screen will not show anything. He is able to make calls through the car still also.
Any thoughts? We can trade them in for over $800 right now, just need to get the screen functioning. Of course we don't have insurance.
