Has anyone tried to use a lens kit (such as a macro lens) with the huawei p20 RGB camera? Does it work?
I contacted Moondog Labs and this is the response:
"We don't currently offer clamp-on lenses designed to work with your Huawei phone. Our technical department informed me that our 37 mm threaded lens is unlikely to be compatible, due to the phone's dual wide angle cameras and large sensor. We appreciate your inquiry, and may consider a Huawei-compatible lens in the future, but it is not currently planned for our next round of product releases."
I've found that when you cover the monochrome, the camera says not to cover it so I think we'd need something like the Moment lenses
I use macro lens (15 and 20x) and everythig works Ok. Below test photos, just test, I have not much time :-\

I've just had confirmation from Bomgogo that their new Govision L6 kit works with the P20 Pro. A little pricey but they seem to be pretty good quality. The $50USD kit comes with a macro, wide lens and UV protector. For some reason it's currently unavailable is the US and Canada, luckily I'm in Australia.

i own a couple! The best lenses i got are from Apexel and its a 12/24 macro and the other one is a 0.63X Wide Angle 12.5X Macro Lens that i bought from this seller https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/APEX...o-Lens-Clip/32654948540.html?isOrigTitle=true
i also got a few cheap one's that work fine and as long as you turn on the 40mp and use the lens thats in the middle then you shouldn't have any problems
I mainly use the 40MP camera,
Add these and you'll get pure awesomeness.
Lenses and case are from Kase
Search for kase.cn on Google, they're like moment lenses where you mount it on a case which they also sell.

I have the 65mm Tele, on the photo is the 135mm Master Tele and a wide angle 16mm lens and they also have sets where it has the wide, tele, and macro lenses.
Just a follow up to my post above. Here are the three lenses I have

Could you take some pictures with the other lenses as well. Is the case accurate in it's shape so that the lenses sit perfectly on top of the camera? Do you have any site where you upload photos?

I see you are using Holder with Shutter Release, can you, please, measure the gap for phone fixture, i suppose to use it with mate 20x, it's size 174.6 x 85.4 x 8.2 mm (6.87 x 3.36 x 0.32 in), and i am doubt about width 85,4 mm, if this Holder will suite for it?

i bought this case that can fit most 17mm thread lenses http://www.kasecn.com/en/show.aspx?ID=1168
I wouldn't bother wasting money on these lenses, save up and buy a 2nd hand DLSR with a kit lens or a keep macro lens, believe me, there's a massive difference
Do you have your sample pics or comparison with, and without lenses?

To be honest, the camera isn't bad in the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. When set to iso 100, focus mode to multi auto focus and metering to average, you can get some pretty decent pictures should you be able to hold the phone ultra still even when dark.

We may not have the best camera in the Z Ultra but when looking at these, it's not at all bad. All shots taken in slightly poor lighting and using the above settings:

^ Lol, well I do own a DSLR camera and have been into photography for years. I just manually changed some settings, held the phone ultra still and took the photos. Luckily the hamster remained still and posed for the pictures.
The blasted hamster has escaped as always. I still cannot find it since it likes hiding under the cupboards in the kitchen, dam thing.
It's escaped countless of times. Hard part is finding the animal. I've named it escape artist since whatever I try and do it escapes.

Hey guys, many of us have received this great device already, now it's time to show how great (or not so great) pictures this device can make!
It could also help other people make their choice whether to buy it or not.
Please do not upload the image on XDA itself, but rather use a site like imgur, tinypic, imageshack, imagevenue to upload your pictures.
When you upload the images on XDA itself we won't be able to see the image in it's full glory, because the images are being compressed, hence losing their quality.
Thank you.

Not bad at night, although noise reduction is crazily heavy-handed, as I've come to expect from Sony.

Strangely the bokeh effect in those pictures makes it looks as if the picture is sunken into my monitor, kind of like a 3D effect.

IIRC, auto at 8MP.
Honestly, though, Sony really needs to get a grip on their JPEG processing and/or allow RAW output. I don't question that this is among the best sensors in a mobile phone out there, but I miss Nokia's much better processing algorithms.

Their JPEG processing for their Alpha cameras isn't too good, either, which was just one more reason for me to just shoot in RAW when I had a NEX.
They are not artistic shots, but I found it after my iPhone session. For me looks pretty good as taken by phone camera.

I'm pretty sure that I've read every review and comparison review of the Z3 camera. My conclusion is that the Z3c has the best camera for a phone it's size (except iPhone 6 which probably edges it out slightly). Expanding the comparison to larger phones, the Z3 camera is comparable to the S5, which has a very well reviewed camera. Each has strengths and weaknesses but end up as a tie overall. For someone who is very into photography though, the Z3 does offer more control, if desired, than the S5, so the photographer will likely prefer the Z3.
That's my summary from having looked at tons of reviews and comparisons and is consistent with the findings of dxomark: http://www.dxomark.com/Mobiles/Sony-Xperia-Z3-New-Sony-flagship-Smartphone-tested
With that said, this comparison review does a good job of showing the weaknesses of the Z3 vs the best the Windows Phone has to offer.
http://allaboutwindowsphone.com/features/item/20150_Camera_head_to_head_Lumia_9301.php
The DxoMark scores for the phone cameras are actually quite close, still with the edge to the Z3 overall though. The Lumia video abilities really drop their combined score though.
As long as you're expectations are reasonable (this is still a phone not a DSLR) I think you'll be happy with the Z3c, I have been so far. It's among the best cameras currently available in a phone
Wow. I need more photos sample and reviews. Please!!!

Does setting your photo resolution to 12MP produce better quality photos compared to 20MP? In other words, is the 20MP camera sensor oversampling to produce a better quality 12MP photo?

I'm not sure if 20MP pictures are really better because those are built from BW sensor image and colors are filled from 12 MP RGB sensor.
Personally I have always used 12MP pictures but that doesn't make it better option
Unless you are printing them, or pixel peeping, it's probably moot.
What matters is the details ,so 20MP is better since the details are coming from the 20MP sensor.
But again, if your just looking at the photo on-screen, it's scaled down to less than 20MP, and even less than 12MP. Any extra details that might be there, won't be noticed unless you zoom in, or print it.

Even shooting a 12MP resolution photo, I'm under the impression that both cameras are still used. The details still come from the 20MP camera. I was wondering if it oversamples the pixels to create a better image, much like what Nokia Lumia phones used to do. The Lumia 1020 had a 41MP camera, but produced 5 megapixel images that were absolutely stunning.
I bought the mate 9 and honestly I'm not satisfied with the images. Especially in low light. My note 5 was a little bit better in my opinion. I think I will back to n5

Don't most phones use a glass lens anyway? I mean the G6 has a Gorila Glass 4 in the camera area. Or do they use a plastic lens with cover glass, and that's what LG is proud of in the V30, the first with a true glass lens and cover glass?
It’s not the exterior , it’s the lenses inside that make up the entire mechanism. These are all glass and make a difference over using plastic len parts.
Better glass optics produce better results. Same with DSLR lenses.
not all of them, just one of them is glass.

But it's apparently still different from what all other OEMs do, otherwise LG wouldn't be promoting it so heavily.

LG V30 will boast wider aperture, ‘world’s clearest’ camera lens
LG V30's camera has the lowest f-stop in a smartphone
LG tells us that the new device, "will include the world’s largest aperture and clearest lens ever to be featured in a smartphone." In real terms, this means that the V30 will, presumably only on the main camera of its dual-cam setup, come with an F1.6 aperture which would be the fastest we have seen on a smartphone camera so far.
In addition, the lens is made form glass instead of the usual plastic materials which, according to LG, delivers improved light transmission over its predecessor and competitors..
Click to collapse
LG is calling it the Crystal Clear Lens, and it will be made out of glass rather than plastic, like those on many other smartphones. As depicted in the image above, it will allow V30 owners to shoot photos and videos that are brighter, sharper, and more colorful than ever before.
In comparison, rival devices like the iPhone 7 boast an f/1.7 aperture. LG says its new camera lets in around 25 percent more light. It’s clear that this will be one of the V30’s biggest selling points, and that LG will be marketing the device at those who want even great camera performance from their smartphone.
“LG boasts an unrivaled heritage in smartphone photography and our decision to adopt glass in the V30 camera is specifically because this has traditionally been the realm of DSLRs,” said Juno Cho, president of LG Mobile. “For the users whom the V series was designed, this kind of innovation is significant”.

Is it possible to use clip-on lens kits on the Huawei Mate 10? I have a set of Aukey wide angle and macro clip-on lenses shown here :
http://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-iPhone-Samsung-Android-Smartphones/dp/B01AYY840Y
I am aware that the dual sensors of the Mate 10 work together, so the RGB sensor gives color information and the monochrome sensor adds detail. What would happen if a wide angle lens is clipped on to one of the phone's lenses? Would it cause color or detail issues? What would the end result be like? Does anyone with a Mate 10 have clip-on lenses so they could try it out?
Cheers.
Was thinking about those lens too. I have a single for my S8+ but was wondering if someone made a dual lens for the M9 and M10 since they use both lenses to take a photo.
For anybody who is interested, it is possible to use clip-on lenses on the Mate 10. The bottom camera has the RGB sensor and it will be tricky to get the lens in place if the clip is not long enough. There is no obvious degradation in image quality, but a warning saying the lens is covered does show up. I'm attaching a sample picture shot with a clip-on macro lens.

Yeah if it works like what I read, if you have enough light, it shouldn't affect the picture if the monochrome is covered.

If anyone is interested on a nice lens for mate 10 pro, heres a link. its a case with magnetic revolver lens just made for this phone, they have dual lenses for iphone and samsung. just single lens for mate 10 pro. i'm hoping they would make it for this phone. i've tried a few of those clip on lens, bad experience and some are just bad.
