Bluetooth Codec problem - Huawei P20 Lite Questions & Answers

Hello,
Just bought a P20 Light and a pair of Pioneer Headphones SE-MJ553BT-K, the headphones support AAC codec but when I try to change the codec type from developer settings it jumps straight back to SBC.
The audio quality is by far better with the same headphones when using a iPhone and a Smart TV,
Does anyone know how I can change the output codec, an app or something else.
Thank you!

Got a response from Huawei România.
They said that they were abble to replicate the problem but they need more time to understand we're the problem is starting and time to fix it.
A update will be issued at a later time, but no time table mentioned.

I bought a new pair of Bluetooth headphones (MPOW Judge) and no have the same issues. I wanted to blame the headphones first, but on other devices they sound great. It's too bad ...

I have the same problem with P20 lite. My BeatsX sounds just AWESOME on iPhone of ANY model. Even on iPhone 5S they sound billion times better than on Huawei P20 lite. I am not able to change the codec. It is awful. Just awful. If you have a good headphones and want to enjoy the music - better to seek for some other smartphone brand.
If anyone knows any app or something to change the bluetooth codec PLEASE tell guys!

see my post here for a similar issue that I was able to workaround fairly easy
TLDR: You need root, edit your build.prop (using text editor, some app from the play store, etc) and change the following key: persist.vendor.bt.a2dp_offload_cap
by removing -aac from the string.

Hi, so my TG01 has really poor sound quality. I mean I have W960i and there music has nice and deep bass and it's nice and loud, and here the bass is like on poor quality video on youtube.. also when I make it lauder it does a lot of clicking on the background.. I tried few player and MortPlayer gives me best sound quality, but summing it, it's still poor If a comapre it to Sonny E.
Maybe it's sound drivers or somethin ? IM TALKING ABOUT SOUND IN HEADPHONES. I'M USING WM 6.5 FFBOYS 1.0.

Yes, sound quality has never been strong side of TG01 but maybe You should consider to utilize WOWHD. It works like some kind of DSP so You should
see any difference.

The file is probably hidden; you need a File Explorer which is able to 'see' hidden / system files (the native windows explorer in Windows Mobile only shows you ones which do not have the -h (hide) attribute set).
The reference to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (often written in short as HKLM) is a 'Hive Key' in the Registry. This works just like the Registry on a desktop PC and contains all the variable settings for the system and all the applications you have installed. To access this and edit its contents you need a Registry Editor.
One option which does all in one package is the Resco File Explorer (Payware); alternatively you can search on XDA and there are various alternative offerings available with differing capabilities.
Hope that helps clarify....
Back to the original issue behind this, though and I would observe that actually the sound quality out of the TG01 is in fact very good - but you will only hear that with a high bitrate audio source and a decent set of earphones on the end to do it justice, or alternatively by output to a high quality external amplifier via quality screened cable and connectors. The stock earbuds (or similar) will never give you good quality sound. Addition of SRS or equivalent software will only modify the perceived sound, but can never overcome the limitations of such hardware. I've included the spec for my audio setup in my sig below - I'm using .wav encoded audio so it is 1:1 CD quality with no compression whatsoever - as soon as you start using compression (MP3 or similar) the audio quality will be degraded.
well ur answer does not help me. I do use resco explorer.
And how can u say quality is good ? ;d there is a lot of cliping etc quality is so poor that my casete player would give me better output. well I do have good quality headphones pionier make that reatail over pounds. my MP3 files sound awesome on my PC or Sony E. and TG01 just can not handle this level. That's why I'm loooking for anyway to fix this issue and I need this WOWHD as it might help. anyway I got it working but it gives my no audio output 0.- help.
Tried an active set of headphones or a portal headphone amp?
I did not tried amp, but I will no spend any more money for this, jsut want to manage WOWHD to work. I has it working and after editing registry entries my phone does not swich music to headphones, and when answering the phone it can only use speaker, and the micro does not work ;/ too bad help.
Well I just happened to have my headphone cable on me today at work. I have a set of noise cancelling headphones here at work and I don't seem to have a problem with 'clicking' except perhaps between songs when it actually changes track. Whilst not being loud, it sounds ok to me.
Are you using the original headphones that came with the TG01? They suck. Change them for something else and see if that improves things.
Also.. I wonder if the 'radio' version has anything to do with it?
As I said before HEADPHONES HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. I USE PIONIEER HDJ1000 AND I WOULD SAY THEY ARE REALLY GOOD. I tried others as well and the best sound i get on pionieer. but it's still not good at all. Bass sounds like a cheap imitation of bass. and as someone said I could cry WOWHD as it worked for few people giving a bit better sound, so jsut want to try it, but can not get it to work, got this frustrating error @ no WOW HD driver loaded .. And i have no idea if radio version has anything to do with it, I hope you guys tell me that Thanks
You could always try another ROM that already includes WOWHD in it? (Look for the MiROM 8 + UPX compression ROM )
I know that's a bit extreme to do, but you have already flashed your phone with FFBoys.. so it shouldn't be that much of an issue. (use PIM Backup to record your contacts first!)
It could just be that the SE phone has better dedicated hardware as many of them seem to be made with music in mind.
Ok downloading new ROM. I have tried many ROM with no change on audio quality I hate Sense but just wanna try this WOWHD software and see if it's worth using, then I'll go back to old FFboy's ROM, and yes I also think that Sonny E. has better hardware as it's Walkman phone, and that's always been known as good thing.

... TG01 with 9,9 mm was for a long time the thinnest smartphone.
....thinnest smartphone= thinnest loudspeaker= poor sound
... but i love it ...
Allegedly Phantasm X3 is the music player that gives the best sound quality on windows mobile, but good luck obtaining a copy even legitmately.
As mentioned, have it might be worth while trying a different 'radio' with the rom, as if it can effect call quality, maybe it can affect sound quality as well. Which country are you in?
I'm from England and I don't really think that where I leave has anything to do with, the quality of sound. The hardware isn't too good it does not support 320 sample rate
But guys I do have sound that can be accepted, it's still not good, but there is not clicking ans stuff. I have installed miRom8 with WOWHD already intergrated.
I will stay with it, because it runs quite smoothly and many functions that are useful. AND MOST IMPORTANT SOUND IS BIT BETTER.
thanks for help
I've tested a lot of Roms and I have a couple of TG01 : Sound quality it's always the same. It's hardware related, not software.
Said this, sound quality it's average. Using device speakers is quite poor (perhaps due to the thickness, as said before) but with headphones it's not bad, even good in my opinion
And if you use a pair of good headphones and SRS HD switched ON, sound it's superb
Instead, nobody says nothing about voice record quality. Its awful, the worst record device I've never heard . Do you agree?
Hi I am new to this forum. I used Touch and Kaiser in the past.
Have been using TG01 for a few weeks and love it.
I am trying to use it as a music player via stereo bluetooth headset, using coreplayer and in mp3 or wma format. The quality of sound is awful. Then I change the music format as flac which is a lossless format and improves the quality a bit. But the human voice is like a digital nature, worse of all, still not much bass. SRS HD helps a bit on the voice, but not the bass (I have to admit my headset is not a very decent one)
Two questions:
1. I understand a quality headset will definitely improve the bass quality, does the bluetooth transmission limit the bitrate or sound frequency?
2. Any recommendation on the tweak, media player or setup?

Try a different music player, S2P is good, and you can use the music player while the screen is locked.
As i said earlier Phantasm is the best audio player available for winmo, but i have never used it.
I don't think SRS WoW HD will really help too much to be honest.

SGS7 & Xiaomi bluetooth headset

Hello, I bought exactly this speaker http://xiaomi-mi.com/bluetooth-heads...headset-black/ ..and it's really great, I must admit..BUT..the problem is, that it is saying numbers of calling users in chinase and playing some weird ringtone which I don't have as my default (100% something from xiaomi pre-set). Only thing I need is, that it will play exactly that sound like normally from sgs7 speaker, not that from xiaomi. Is this possible to change or anything? Because now it's playing different sound from speaker of mobile and different from xiaomi bluetooth headset and I want to synchronize these sounds into one and that default from mobile, if you know what I mean and understood me (I know that I explained it difficulty, but don't know how to say it in other way ). Thank you.
For better understanding, here are my examples:
Sound from the mobile: http://vocaroo.com/i/s0nHZwmVb329
Sound from the Xioami headset: http://vocaroo.com/i/s0EBPjNUpTTi
And I want to play sound from the mobile to the Xiaomi headset too.

Bluetooth settings in Developer Options

Hi, can anyone change the Bluetooth Audio settings and they actually change ?
i.e. if I select aptX as the Audio Codec it still shows as SBC on the Menu. This is the case for all of the Bluetooth Audio selections - Sample Rate/Bits Per Sample etc - nothing actually changes.
What am I doing wrong ? Mate 10 (Not Pro)
Cheers
Would like to know the same. /buyp
Got same issue only SBC in streaming Bluetooth... Please somebody can answer!! It's pretty boring...
It's an automatic process, if you bought audio equipment with the different codecs, it automatically chooses the correct one. Connect a device with the apt X and you will see it automatically change.
EMUI doesn't support AAC, if your headphones doesn't support LDAC or Aptx you are stuck with SBC.
SBC is kind of problematic as of right now.
Maybe someone can help me, i updated last week my phone. to 137. (ota) i reseted my phone to get a fresh rom
about a hour ago i was in my car , and my radio dosnt show titels anymore and i cant forward tracks via radio. only on my phone.
My radio says "BT AUDIO" and its just playing. not more. .... that kinda sucks on the version before it was all okey.
Yes i delted car and phone bluetooth and reconnect. same issue.

Bluetooth settings not sticking

Hey guys, I’ve just recently purchased an android car stereo with android 8.1 on it. I’m having an issue where my iPhone Bluetooth sound is really crap streaming to the unit but with an android phone it sounds fine.
My research has come to the fact that the iPhone uses aac encoding.
I can go into the units developer functions and change to AAC but once I exit out the setting is never retained , reverts back to ‘default’ which obviously isn’t AAC.
I’ve searched high and low for an answer but I can’t for the life of me work it out!
Is there something I’m doing wrong ?
Regards
Darren

Poor bluetooth audio quality

Hey guys,
I have connected my A3 to a roidmi in my car and i have noticed there's a very poor audio quality over a blurtooth. I have also checked it with a stereo in my living room. Does anyone else got a same problem? How to get over it?

Ya i do have this problem, its a bug that hasn't been fixed yet. Turn volume down by 3 steps and you will be fine.
just enable developer options and set it to the highest quality, by default it is using the lowest bandwidth with the lowest quality
There is an even more serious bug with this phone and Bluetooth : if you get a call while streaming audio to a Bluetooth headset, music stops as expected, but then playback fails after the call has been ended. You need to reboot in most cases in order to get back music playback.
Tested with several Jabra and Plantronics headsets and different music players.

Are you sure it's actually doing this? Because when I switch Bluetooth to using another codec or higher quality, then hit back button, then go back into dev options, all the settings are back to default, so I don't think it actually does anything. I have a Bose qc 35, which is supposed to support aac.

Try this Magisk module and increase the bitrate of SBC codec. You might need to experiment a little to find the best value for your setup. Start at the max (or just use the recommended value) and gradually decrease until it's stable. High bit rate SBC can have higher quality than APT-X (HD) - you will need to disable "HD Audio" in Bluetooth device setting to force usage of SBC.
I was using it with Mi A1, but haven't tried with A3 yet.

Btw. changing BT codec in developer settings never worked for me, not sure what's the purpose of it
Same problem for me. My bluetooth headset sucks at this device. I hope we can find an easy solution immediately

Its not the bitrate, it happened with me many times before so i can tell, phone boosts the volume past max for some reason which causes distortion, reducing volume fixes the issue

I'm trying this module. I turned on Bluetooth snoop logging to see if I can see what bitrate I'm actually getting connected with. There is text .log file enough which is only few bytes and a larger binary file with
cfa extension. You don't happen to know what format this is, do you?

CFA is a binary btsnoop file containing all the packets related to BT connection. It should be possible to open it on a PC in Wireshark. I couldn't find a way to open it on Android directly.

In my case (JBL Free X), this is not an solution, it's only quite better, when i set bitrate higher than 574
I think I have found solution for this problem. I have installed miui 11 on my mi a3. Then I have installed magisk and gjf_bt module. Noises no more. For some reason this module doesn't works on stock rom
