Bluetooth settings not sticking - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I’ve just recently purchased an android car stereo with android 8.1 on it. I’m having an issue where my iPhone Bluetooth sound is really crap streaming to the unit but with an android phone it sounds fine.
My research has come to the fact that the iPhone uses aac encoding.
I can go into the units developer functions and change to AAC but once I exit out the setting is never retained , reverts back to ‘default’ which obviously isn’t AAC.
I’ve searched high and low for an answer but I can’t for the life of me work it out!
Is there something I’m doing wrong ?
Regards
Darren

Parrot Asteroid Smart Bluetooth and Sound Issues

Hey guys, I just replaced a Sony deck with the Smart and I LOVE it so far. It's taking some tweaking to get it how I want it, and to get it to do what I want it to do and why I chose it over Appradio. I have it rooted, and I've got the Play Store working great. The lack of a volume knob is a drag, but I'm hoping to fix that with PullOpenSettings. I have 3 unsolved issues so far:
**1. The Sony deck it replaced had separate HPF/LPF so that it could ensure that only bass went to the subs, and I was also able to remove most of the bass that went to my regular speakers since they don't really handle bass at the volumes I listen to. I see that I can set the crossover frequency for the subs and that's great, but is there an app that will allow me to adjust the bass to the speakers without affecting the sub? I've searched high and low and I've yet to find one.
**2. I cannot get my Bluetooth ELM OBD adapter to pair. I read in an Amazon review that "All I had to do was install the Bluetooth apk and it worked perfectly" I'm not sure what 'Bluetooth apk' he's referring to, but I'd sure like to know!
**3. Lastly, why can't I get this to Bluetooth tether to my Nexus 4 running CM 10.1? Yes, I have Bluetooth tethering enabled in the phone and in the head unit, and dual-mode is off. If you look at each other's profiles on the other, there's Phone Audio and Media Audio, but no profile for PAN. I'd read somewhere that installing Open Garden Wifi Tether would fix this. I didn't see how it could, but I sideloaded it to my phone and of course it didn't work. I just can't figure out how to give the deck PAN.
***Any Help with any of these would be appreciated!! Thank you!

Bluetooth Codec problem

Hello,
Just bought a P20 Light and a pair of Pioneer Headphones SE-MJ553BT-K, the headphones support AAC codec but when I try to change the codec type from developer settings it jumps straight back to SBC.
The audio quality is by far better with the same headphones when using a iPhone and a Smart TV,
Does anyone know how I can change the output codec, an app or something else.
Thank you!
Got a response from Huawei România.
They said that they were abble to replicate the problem but they need more time to understand we're the problem is starting and time to fix it.
A update will be issued at a later time, but no time table mentioned.
I bought a new pair of Bluetooth headphones (MPOW Judge) and no have the same issues. I wanted to blame the headphones first, but on other devices they sound great. It's too bad ...
I have the same problem with P20 lite. My BeatsX sounds just AWESOME on iPhone of ANY model. Even on iPhone 5S they sound billion times better than on Huawei P20 lite. I am not able to change the codec. It is awful. Just awful. If you have a good headphones and want to enjoy the music - better to seek for some other smartphone brand.
If anyone knows any app or something to change the bluetooth codec PLEASE tell guys!
see my post here for a similar issue that I was able to workaround fairly easy
TLDR: You need root, edit your build.prop (using text editor, some app from the play store, etc) and change the following key: persist.vendor.bt.a2dp_offload_cap
by removing -aac from the string.

Update 9.1.0.326 Bluetooth sound quality degraded

Hey everyone
A couple of days ago EMUI prompted that a new update with some system settings changed arrived and required a reboot. After that, mysterious things started to happen...
For whatever reason, SOME sound apps (audible, google podcasts) are now having a terrible sound through bluetooth - it has a metallic echo which resembles an empty room effect. While OTHER apps (probably that play music, such as yandex music) do not experience that. I've tried my car audio and Bose QC35 with the exact same result =( I'm baffled as to what is going on and how to fix it. I've tried switchin between codecs in realtime but that didn't change anything.
I would appreciate any ideas, really don't want to do hard reset....
Build number: 9.1.0.326(C10E3R1P13patch01)
Nic quality
Nic quality bluetooth sound speaker
Just to update here: my issue has been resolved with 9.1.0.350

Aptx HD?

Our phone was announced to be capable of aptx and aptx HD. I own two different bluetooth receivers with aptx HD enabled. But when I connect the phone to them, it uses only aptx, as the connection info on our device and the LEDs on the receivers reveal. This behaviour did not change from Android 9 to 10.
My wife has a Mi A2, and with this device aptx HD works on both devices under Android 9 and 10. Is there a hidden way to activate aptx HD on our phone? Meanwhile I think our phone is heavily neglected by Xiaomi because such features present in a Mi A2 mysteriously vanished.

It's on developer settings.
Also, if forcing aptx HD is not working or has bugs, remember to report it.
This was the first thing I tried, but predictably switching to aptx HD in developer settings has no effect (I wonder what use these settings have - I never heard that someone succeeded in activating codes this way which his phone didn't choose automatically).
Update: I changed to crdroid 6.6 - and now aptx HD works flawlessly.
Hi sir, today I've got issue with connection to Fii0 BTR3K - no sound from PowerAmp which I was using for weeks without problems before. I did security update from May yesterday (yep late a bit) and got this issue. Fortunatelly to me I have SBH50 from Sony to test everything on low profile SBC connection. Lucky to me, I did another update to August security patch for Android 10 today.
Now I have Aptx LL ([email protected]) working with BTR3K (purple indication on LED). What I learned from today: Do not touch Dev settings! By misstake Dev settings could store your input as wrong data in 'system default' for application (PowerAmp in my case) and lead to missfunction. In my case PowerAmp was reading [email protected] even from non-aptX device. Second: actual condition of connection could be changed during SW initialization. So test your player SW and try to reset it as I did.
For specified [email protected] I am using Hi-Res output of PA. I am pretty sure in numbers as I can hear the difference between SBC and aptX, and hear difference with 16 to 24 bit resolution change (by enabling\disabling tone processing in ounput pipeline). To enable 24 bit in PA you should disable \reset to default dithering method.
I think AptX-HD isn't fully supported by 2 reasons: no real benefits over LL profile + licensing catch.
Hope you will learn something from my evidence
I have haylou gt1 plus earbuds. Apart from bad connection , the buds are aptx-HD compatible, one of their selling points. When i go to developer settings to check, aptx is used. When I change it to HD, it detects the change, nothing happens, and when I go back, and enter dev settings again, it is still on aptx . I think that's time to throw it in the sea... it's already blue

Your earphone doesn't support AptX-HD, that's why when your manually change to it using Developer Options, the codec isn't selected; use AptX or AAC, as advertised by Haylou.

It's weird cause all reviews I read, specifically said aptx-HD, but you are right. It's only aptx. Nevermind. My mistake !

Are you on android one?
Cause I'm on miui 12 and i have lots of issues. First left and right connects to the phone at the same time and then i have volume problems

Forcing calls to go through A2DP in Android, while using the phone's built-in microphone.

Hello,
This issue has been driving me insane. It seems like some simple, artificial limitation that no one seems to circumvent. As the title suggests, I'm trying to force phone calls and especially VoiP calls (Discord, whatsapp..etc), to go through the high bitrate A2DP profile instead of the horrible HSP/HFP profile that butchers audio quality and uses the horrible bluetooth microphone.
For instance when music is streamed through a bot in Discord i have to listen to it in horrible earpiece-level phone call quality.
I feel like there's got to be a tweak, a Magisk module, a custom ROM functionality with root access that allow for this, something.. I found a couple old XDA posts about this but no solutions. Oh and also tried Lesser AudioSwitch on multiple Android versions, none worked.
It seems inherent to all bluetooth headphones which is a shame, they could cost 10k $, but the quality would still be sh*t in calls, both in and out, since mic is not close to the mouth.
I always loved Android for giving users more control, but sadly seems like this is more and more going away. What i want here, can very easily be done on PC.
Thank you for your time reading, really hope someone can help.
