Restore Whatsapp Message - Root - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody!
I got a OnePlus 2, since saturday with LineageOS 15.1
Problem is now, WhatsApp is unable to restore neither Google Drive Backup nor Local Backup, it always states it is unable to recover messages from this backups.
I have 2 ways in mind, and i hope someone already tried this.
1. as i have 2 databases now (already decrypted) i thought about merging them into a new one and restore it
OR
2. as the phone is rooted, is it possible to overwrite the msgstore.db inside data/data/com.whatsapp/databases ?
has someone already tried this?
Greeting and thanks for your help.
Wayan

try this, put those backups in anoda device and try to restore d whatsapp chat there, if it works
back them up with that phone you restore it with and then restore them to your initial device...

hi and thanks for your suggestion.
I already tried this with a samsung S5 I had lying around. It restored the google drive backup, i created a new Backup and tried to restore it on my OP2 ... and there was the same error, that whatsapp can't restore messages from this backup.

what you tried gbwhatsapp lastest?

That is what i tried. I installed Whatsapp on an old Samsung S5, restored from Google Drive, that worked (didnt work on OP2 with LineageOS), made a new Backup on the S5, put it on OP2 -> cant import the messages

have you tried to install Gbwhatsapp on your Oppo

No, what for?
Problem is, whereever i get the backup from (another phone, google drive, manual copy) it stucks at 24% recovery - and fails with error.

Did anyone find any solution for this? Seems like the problem occurs more on Lineage 15.1. I've recently flashed Lineage 15.1 on my Moto G4 Plus and WhatsApp won't restore my Drive Backup. It always stops at 24% and the app crashes. Any help appreciated. Thanks!
Also, does this have anything to do with the 32-bit and the 64-bit WhatsApp versions?

[Q] WhatsApp restore question

Hi there,
I was wondering if it is possible to restore a previous backup so my chats will come back again. I had some important messages backed up and I would like to see them again.
I have placed the backup files in the whatsapp backup and database folder and when I reinstalled whatsapp it had asked me to restore using an old backup and so I did click ok but the chats never appeared.
I would be very greatful if you could help me restore them.
Thank you.

I got the same issues with old chats not restoring after installing whatsapp. I created a backup before and can see this file in the database folder. Tried moving to the backup folder but makes no difference.
Anyone got a fix?
When you reinstall whatsapp and the backup folder is in the same place on the SD card as when you backed up... I think whatsapp is supposed to ask you if you wanna restore when you go through the whole installation process. I normally just titanium backup just to be safe, but the whatsapp method should work with whatsapp.

Whatsapp on YP-G70

Hi.
I've been trying to install Whatsapp on my YP-G70.
I tried to backup and transfer apk by using PC emulator (Youwave).
I've also tried to follow the indications indicated in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1435617
, but I haven't de able to achieve it.
Time ago, I seemed to see in the forum that, with a "custom" rom, can be installed app like Whatsapp.
Can anyone tell if with a specific ROM can Whatsapp be instaled?
(and what ROM is that)
Thk so much.
I`m spanish. Sorry if any spell bug
I installed BlueStacks (http://bluestacks-app-player.softonic.com/)
Installed whatsapp (http://www.whatsapp.com/android/)
Installed titanium and box (dropbox or any cloud service)
Open whatsapp and set
Open titanium and backup whatsapp
Open box and upload the files from titanium's folder
Download this files in your yp-g70 and move to titanium folder
Install whatsapp from whatsapp website on your yp-g70
then open titanium and restore app+files
then open whatsapp and enjoy!!!
I've tried to open and set whatsapp on bluestack, but it shows me the same mesage when y acept the terms (can´t identify your device / tablets are currently not suported)
Any idea?
Thanks
that's unusual... I dont have any problems and i've done that for a lot of friends... If u dont matter i can do it for you...
Done!
I wasn't able to do it by using bluestacks, so I tried it with youwave again, and I achieved it.
Thanks for the information, rafa.
It was very useful for me

Ok, u're welcome!
Build.prop
Couldn't you trick it into thinking you're a phone with some build.prop editor?
I installed winmount to find titanium folder (it's in a .vdi file on C:\users\"your windows user"\.virtualbox )

Because I want to do this so I can have whatsapp on CM7 or CM9 ROM.
Edit: Aha nvm, I managed to import Whatsapp from a ROM to CM7. I installed titanium backup and backed up my contacts, whatsapp and contact storage. Then I uploaded my whatsapp app and my titanium back-up app onto Dropbox. I then flashed CM7 with CWM. Then I flashed gapps to get google play store on my Player. Then I downloaded dropbox from market, downloaded my uploaded titanium and whatsapp app onto my device and installed those 2 apps. Then I restored my data of the 3 back-up files (whatsapp, contacts and contacts storage). Then I was able to use whatsapp on my Galaxy Player with CM7 ROM on it. I didn't need a computer to accomplish this.
The downside of this was that I didn't have my contacts names any longer. I only saw the number in the whatsapp chat. But I guess that's not that bad after all.

I have working WhatsApp on "my" YP-G70, now I explain method I used:
you need root on Galaxy S WiFi/Player, another rooted Android device with GSM/UMTS module (and telephone number) compatible with WhatsApp and Titanium Backup installed on both devices.
Install and configure WhatsApp on the other device.
Make a backup of WhatsApp with Titanium Backup.
Copy 3 files with *whatsapp* in the name from Titanium Backup folder on your PC.
Copy WhatsApp backup files from PC to Galaxy Player in Titanium Backup folder.
On YP-G70 restore WhatsApp backup with Titanium Backup.
Enjoy WhatsApp on your YP-G70 device!!!

Sorry, I have not idea...
I am using whatsapp now for a while on this device. All those tricks didn't really work for me, so I'd installed WT's ROM. It said that it has whatsapp support. Just install that ROM and download the whatsapp apk (from its own site I suggest). For registration, I recommend using a phone without whatsapp, just to avoid any conflicts.
Good luck!

You have to have what's called "IMEI spoofing" on your rom. Since our device does not have an imei as it is not a phone, and some apps require am IMEI to function, some smart devs have figured out how to create a fake imei so that they will run. It is a simple hack, and should be included in *most* custom roms. That is why using data from a phone will work, as the IMEI is already set up. You could also optionally do it yourself, but then you would have to figure out how to decompile jarfiles, edit smali, and use adb fluently.
hey guys
i dont get the tutorial so is there someone how can describe a way, which works?
Thanks man

Titanium Backup restore issues

Please can someone confirm I'm not the only one that is experiencing titanium backup restore issues..... Meaning not restoring anything, whether it's batch or individually.
This makes new rom flashing an absolute nightmare.
Now I am aware of the recent security updates by google where all apps require to be verified when being installed. A work around is disabling app verify and disabling internet connection. But this does not work for me. Now the only easy way (not so easy) is find all apps missing via titanium backup then selecting the view in market button, download and install the Play store way, then do a batch install of data only.
Anyone care to chime in?

Yup same problems, no answers. Developer doesn't help you for crap. Just auto email back leading you to message board. Everytime I flash new rom titanium backup screws up.
It's been like this for few months. Regret buying app now.

I haven't done a clean flash in quite a while, so I haven't had to restore anything. But I just tried restoring 2 apps that I no longer use and both were restored just fine by TiBu.
I'm not sure which rom you're on, stock or custom? I'm running Resurrection Remix 5.8.2 (Nougat) on H850 and like I said, no issues
I'm on Stock Nougat (rooted) and have no problems whatsoever with Titanium Backup and LG G5.

I just flashed RR just to see. And I thought I was in the clear when 2 apps restored a no problem when selected manually. But that was short lived having still problems during batch restore. It's seems to be only certain apps not installing and then causes it to freeze. It's then a force stop of TB and start again, but it's just as quick to do it manually.
Have you tried backing up all apps then restoring them so no data is lost and test to see. Because if you go to update your rom etc. TB is a nightmare.

I know I restored all my apps with TiBu when I made the switch from RR M to RR N last June and everything restored just fine. I've updated my rom countless times since then but I'm pretty sure I only made dirty flashes, meaning my apps didn't have to get restored.
When I tested it with those 2 apps yesterday it was a batch restore too ... but just to make sure I just backed up and batch restored 6 more apps without any issues. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't make a difference if I tried again with 16 or 60 apps, on MY phone it works. I don't know why you're having problems, but it works fine here
So I did some more trial and error with good success.
Now I know of all the issues with using an external card as a backup location for titanium. So I have already tried to move my old backups from the external card to the internal sdcard where titaniums default location is, but I had the same results.
So just as an other test I decided to remove all my old backups and start fresh so to speak. I kept the backup location at its default when titanium is newly installed which is on the sdcard and done a full backup.
Backup worked as expected, so I then decided to batch restore some apps and to my surprise they all restored as one would normally expect.
So I suspected there was some kind of corruption to my old backups so I had to test. I moved all my old backup into the new working location.
Titanium showed all the old backups and guess what.... They all restored without issues.
So my guessing is it needs to backup at least once to its folder after a new install before it can use it correctly.
But on my previous tests before doing the above it did backup some old apps from its default location on the sdcard.
Weird and makes no sense..... To me anyway.

My TiBu backups have always been on my external SD, so I can't confirm that. Except for 1 time on a Marshmallow rom I never had any problems creating or restoring backups from the external

I'm inferring from some posts here that there may be problems with restoring TB backups stored on an external SD card. Here is some advice from Titanium Track, copied and pasted from item #31 on their Troubleshooting page:
31. External SD Card problems...
There is an elegant way of giving TitaniumBackup write access to the external sdcard, without having to forfeit security.... Since the time of Android 4.3, Google uses a very clean security-solution by giving apps that request write access to external SD, permission only to their own folder – not to the entire card! In order to get TitaniumBackup to work without compromising security, you can simply create a folder on the external sdcard, using the following folder-structure: /storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/
If you already have existing backups, move them with a file-explorer from their current place to: /storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/ Lastly, go to the preferences of TitaniumBackup, choose “Backup folder location” and choose the above specified folder.
Finish.
I followed this GUIDE back in Marshmallow days and have never had any issues since then - had a friend do it yesterday and now it works for him too. Maybe try that

My problem has never been with writing to the external SD card (although it was some time ago)
This is definitely a TB issue. It can't seem to restore most of my apps that are not already installed. As soon as you install the app manually TB works perfectly.
My solution which I have just done today is backup via TB on old rom but also backup with super backup.
Then flash new rom, use Super Backup to install all the apps (works like TB used to, but does not seem to restore data) then use TB to restore all data.
Twice the work as normal but not as bad as manually doing each app via playstore.
Also worth mentioning Super backup folder is working flawlessly from the externalSD but for batch mode to work you must use the default folder assigned on the externalSD.

I don't think it's a TiBu issue - if it was then everybody would have it. I know I don't, but no idea if it might be phone or rom related or what the problem is. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help

Thanks for going to the effort of doing a fresh install. Just out of curiosity what phone and rom are you using.
I'm using LG G5, have tried stock v20 which is android 7.0 with root, I tried FluenceUHD patch over the stock rom, all using SuperSU for root.
I also tried RR based on 7.1 with same result.
Also TB is on version 8.0.0

Question Restore Google Drive backup

Hi all,
just got my Galaxy S22 Plus yesterday. I tried to restore a Google Drive backup from my previous phone (Oneplus 6 - Android 11) but it says "No backup found".
Does anyone have an idea if that should technically work? To be honest, I have never restored a Google Drive backup.
Would be great if anyone could help.
Thanks.
EDIT: The Oneplus 6 backup is showing up on Google Drive but there is not way to restore it.
I had the exact same problem a couple of days ago tried everything, ended up doing a factory reset as a last resort and my backups reappeared
This took me forever to figure out.
But I only get the option to restore from Google Drive, if I click "I don't have the phone" during the phone setup.
