Im really loving my Mate 10 Pro, but im having a really annoying issue.
When i turn on my wifi hotspot, i am able to connect any laptop, and use the internet, but after an amount of time, that i have not measured exactly, the hotspot turns off by itself. It happens within minutes, probably 5 or 10.
I have set the automatic timeout to off, and the amount off data used to infinite, but it still happens.
Any1 facing the same issue or have a solution for it?

If I recall correctly (read about this somewhere) this only happens if you have more than one google account configured on your phone.

I only have my own account on my user. But i have seperate account with another google account attached. But as it is on another user, it shouldnt affect my user, right?

Try it out .. like I mentioned I have no own expertise on this.
i have the same issue. it is VERY irritating. I have contacted Huawei who have told me to reset network settings. Which I have, to no avail. I DO have the private user set up as a work space.
I have one other google account set up - will delete and see if that helps.
But i didnt have this issue with my samsung s7. I note that huawei battery optimisation may be militantly destroying anything that runs in the background.
FYI i have timed the switch off after about 5-6 minutes

Yeah, I think it is the battery management being trigger happy. It happens to me to many background apps. VERY annoying.
I couldnt find what "app" it would be that I could manage manually as its a system process.
I think i might have found the solution to my own problem.
I had 2 users on the phone, and the other user, which is my girlfriends profile, seem to be the culprit the kept shutting the hotspot off.
So the issue seem to be gone after i set the hotspot to not turn off on her profile.
you could check out FoxFi app as a workaround
I have another user set up but as a work profile. It doesnt actually have the hotspot icon or option on that profile at all. Huawei support gave two options. One is to clear the partition cache and the other to factory reset. Done the former and need to test it properly. Huawei offer factory reset too easily (on another issue I had - try a portrait panorama and see - it comes out unfocused /blended beyond the bottom third)
I had this problem also.
Solution was turning on Hotspot for unlimited time in private area profile.
yes - that was the solution, which I educated Huawei about. He responded to say its a battery saving option to switch off after a certain time - yes, i know. but it should warn you that the private user settings ALSO count

I've owned a Touch Pro for a few months now and overall it's a good device. It has its quirks, but then again what phone doesn't? There is one problem in particular, however, that I can't seem to figure out. I've searched up and down in XDA Forums, and on Google, and I just can't find out a fix for my data connection always turning on for no reason. I have all my e-mail accounts set to "manual send / recieve", the weather program set to "update weather manually", and as far as I know there are no other programs on my phone that have access to the internet without my permission.
The problem I have is sometimes I will wake my phone up from its sleep mode, and I will discover that the data connection is active and appearing to be transmitting. Also, EVERY time I restart my phone and it goes through the boot process, the data connection will re-activate even before TouchFLO 3D opens up on the today screen. It's really annoying, because I have no idea what's causing it to do this, or why it does it at random times, or whenever I reset my device.
Does anyone have any solutions to this problem? I hate having to manually go in periodically and make sure my data connection is set to "off", instead of having it stay that way when I set it.
So no help on this one then?
I don't have a solution but I can help by bumping your thread and saying I have the same problem on Verizon. I was at a friend's place all weekend, and he has wifi all over, so I turned off data and used his wifi instead. Well sure enough all weekend my data connection kept turning itself back on. It seemed to happen only when going into sleep mode. So I kept the phone plugged in so it would never totally "sleep". Wifi stayed connected with no data connection starting automatically. Annoying especially considering the 5 GB data limit on the PDA plan.
Well I'm glad I'm at least not alone on this one. It's weird too that even though your device is on a different carrier, it still does the same thing. I wonder if it's a hardware issue?
I know that someone has to have an answer for this...
go into pocket express and press menu then go to express settings then on the top left theres a pulldown press it and go into auto updates and turn it off.. pissed me off when i got the phone.. couldnt find a fix till i started going through all the programs to find the one doing it.. and it was the stupid Pocket Express
I have had my MDA Compact V for a few months now, and it's only recently that I've had the same problem. Each time I switch on, my data connection starts or alternatively if I loose signal then get it back then I see my data connection is on again. Thankfully I have the Solo 20 package with unlimited net usage (although you're are limited to 1Gb/month) but it drains my battery really badly.
I went through every possible setting and program to switch off location settings or auto downloads/updates and I still have the same problem, but I downloaded Data Controller v1.00 from Freewarepocketpc.net and I can toggle my data connection on or off as I please.

Install below cab, then use the NODATA app, select what you want off, PHONE AS MODEM and DATA are your two options I believe... Your data will never come back on... until you re-enable it that is....

What sucks is on my Sprint HTC touch pro 2 (cdma), I was having a problem where I couldn't answer calls all the time, but sometimes I could, and eventually found that it was always when the data connection was showing active is when I couldn't answer a call. But when that was happening, my data connection would turn back off after a few seconds when I was done using it. It was driving me crazy not being able to answer my calls and I finally found a post that let me correct that problem, it was changing the HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\SuspendResume value that fixed this problem... the value of this registry setting was originally "GPRS_bye_if_device_off". This setting made it so the data connection would turn off when not being used, but it apparently messes up cdma phones from being able to switch over to answer an incoming phone call if the data connection is active. I changed this registry entry to "#777" as the post said to do, and sure enough, that corrected the problem with being able to answer my calls if the data connection is active. I'm real happy to have that working now, but when I changed this setting, my data connection is now always showing active (white arrows showing in status) and even if I turn it off manually, it comes on by it's self way more often than the every 4 hours I have it set to check emails.
There is a registry setting called CacheTime under the same Settings key as the above mentioned registry entry that I changed, that when the "GPRS_bye_if_device_off" value is used, the CacheTime key value will indeed control how long the data connection stays on before automatically turning off. But When I change the Entry to "#777" which is necessary to allow me to answer calls when data is active, then changing the CacheTime value has no effect and the data connection stays on until you manually turn it off.
I'd like to find a way to turn the data connection off, while still not messing up me being able to answer calls when the data connection is active, and seems to me that if both of these things can be done separately with two different registry settings, that it must be possible to do both.... so if any of you tech wizards can find a way to do this, I'd love to see it!

Hey, I have noticed the same problem. It is annoying from a battery life aspect as well as a system slowdown when coming out of sleep. I could not find much of a workaround except one of the settings in TD3 Tools I installed. In the "Data Connection" tab you can yurn on an option that makes your "End" key also terminate an active data connections. So if you hit it after waking your phone you won't have the annoying slowdown with your Sense UI...
Set up my works Exchange account on the S3 and suspected it was causing high battery drain.
Selected some 'sleep time' from within the application and then also selected Manual Update so I could save battery. It appears manual doesn't change anything though as my mail still comes through unless I deactivated the account completely?
Anyone else have this issue.?

That wouldn't be a bug in Exchange causing the issue.
It is, most likely, because ActiveSync, which is what Exchange uses to communicate with your phone, is a server-side "push" technology. This means that your phone, most likely, has WiFi and/or your Internet services "always on" to accommodate ActiveSync. ActiveSync doesn't work like Blackberry where the client-side does all of the control/communication (pull technology). It is all done server-side, which means that the phone has to always have an Internet connection, either through WiFi or the phone Internet services, to be ready to accept incoming information from ActiveSync.

After posting my response, I decided that it could be a little bit clearer, so here goes.
Blackberry (BES specifically), IMAP, POP3, SMTP, etc, the client side, in this case the phone, is in control of all of the message synchronization. Meaning that every n number of minutes/hours/days it opens up an Internet connection and says, "Do you have anything for me? If so, send it now." That's client-side pull technology.
ActiveSync, on the other hand, the server (in this case the Exchange Client Access Server), sends out the info, via AvtiveSync, every time something new comes in to your Exchange mailbox. This happens "real-time" rather than every n number of minutes. This means that the client side, in this case the phone, must have an "always on" Internet connection, either via WiFi or the phone's Internet service, to accept these "real-time" updates. This is server-side push technology.
Server-side push technology, by its very nature, causes the client-side, in this case the phone, to consume more battery since the WiFi and Internet "radios" must always be on.
I hope that this makes more sense than my last post.

Correct. The server is the controlling "party" in the paired relationship.

I ran the same tests on the S3. I'm syncing 3 exchange accounts.
Email exchange service drains the battery really fast ...
Nearly half of the battery is used (battery stats) for this process only [47%].
My battery cannot last:
- on 3G networks, more than 5 hours.
- on WiFi, it goes up to 8 hours.
I used to sync the same exchange accounts on 2 other Samsung devices: Captivate Glide and Galaxy Note - both running Android 2.3.5/2.3.6
=> no issues with the sync services draining the battery.
IMHO, this is not only linked to the Activesync technology, it is also linked android release and the way email exchange service is made/configured (or runs).
There might be some tweaks or possible patch for this service...
But don't know what or where, yet ...
My 2 cents ...
The phone keeps at least one connection to Google open at all times (C2DM push) when it has a network connection.
Open and half-open connections do not really cause high battery drain since your device can (and will) go to lower power states and switch the network to fast dormancy which is a sort of periodic polling for new data.

Additionally that IMAP is poll-only is not entirely correct. While IMAP itself is usually only used as PULL (client requests, receives, closes connection) many servers support the IMAP IDLE mode (client requests, receives, waits for new data, receives, waits, ...) which is a real push technology.
(Technically it differs from Google's C2DM which in fact is HTTP (Comet) long-polling and not true pushing)
I've noticed a high battery drain on Exchange too, even if the account was disabled. It's unrelated to how the phone is connected (Wifi,3G,2G) and _seems_ to get lower when no data connection is open.
It will only go away if the account is removed and seems to caused by the app waking up all the time even if not needed. Thirdparty apps and stock Android do not seem to have this issue - at least my S1 did not.
(I haven't tested on the S3 with a non-stock app yet)
Btw my Exchange server is a patched Z-Push IMAP/SMTP<->Activesync converter from their trunk with Exchange2007 capabilities.
Yes, there HAS to be a bug in the exchange app on this phone.
I got my phone a month ago, and have had no issues with battery drain and high data usage with Exchange what so ever. Until this weekend.
All of a sudden, with no change in the settings at all, my battery all of a sudden just lasted 5-6 hours. It got really warm too. Then after a day or so, I got a message that my monthly limit of data was reached. I didn´t believe this at all since I had more than 500 MB left on my limit the day before.
But when I checked the settings, I was shocked to see that this was true indeed. And it was "exchange services" that caused this. It had downloaded about 600-700 MBs over this short period, thus (of course) causing my battery to drain quickly, and I will now get a nice bill from my phone company for over use of data
As I said. No changes to the settings were done. This happened over night. And of course this has to be a bug in the app, not a server-issue. No one else in my company, as far as I have heard, had had this issue (yet), but after googling I can see that this actually is a problem for many, with different phone brands.
It seems like google has got complains about this, but there has not been released a fix, which is totally unacceptable. I now have had to turn of my mail sync to prevent the data usage to go insane, and my phone to get warm, slow and quick battery drain.
If this isn´t fixed quickly, I will uninstall Exchange services from my phone (have root), and install Touchdown instead.

Issue was resolved by deleting account and reinstalling it. But I had to do it twice before it worked.
I also cleand the Exchange Services App with the tool SD Maid before I reinstalled my account the second time.
My battery is back to normal, and no more crazy data usage.
Recently I disabled the best wi-fi performance option (I enabled it on accident while messing around with settings on launch day) which obviously increased my battery life dramatically by actually allowing my phone to go into deep sleep. But now I hit a new issue.
Before I go on, I want to state that I DID apply the SmartSync fix and that my data IS working while my phone is in deep sleep.
New emails I receive with Gmail app do not get pushed to my phone as they should. They are anywhere from 5-15 minutes late if they even show up at all. If I happen to turn my screen on, automatically I get the notification of new emails.
Is anyone else having this issue with Gmail or any other app? I find it strange that while I have data (wi-fi/3g) enabled and working with the screen off, emails still come in delayed.
Any help would be appreciated. I have searched around and most of the answers I came up with (regarding HTC devices like the One X) had to do with SmartSync messing up the connection or someone not having the notifications enabled. I'm at a loss 0.0
EDIT: I tested this with Google Talk had my main account up in Gmail and in another browser windows my other Gmail account. Added both of them, talked to my self, if my device screen was off, I would either get it 1-2 minutes late or not at all. Once I turned my screen back on, the notifications poured in. I also tried the same scenario with my main Gmail account logged off (in case it was canceling out the messages to my phone, which it wasn't) and I had the same outcome. I edited the title to reflect that this isn't a Gmail only issue.
EDIT 2: Did more tests, I tried turning Wi-Fi off completely and running the same tests as above to my surprise everything worked as expected. I initially thought it might be because of my 5Ghz Wi-Fi band, so I tried it all again on my 2.4Ghz channel -- had the same problems as before. Somehow the issue pertains to your screen being off and Wi-Fi being on.
EDIT 3: I just tried streaming Pandora and shutting the screen off (maybe WiFi WAS somehow shutting off) Pandora kept playing no problem. I messaged myself on Talk, got the notification right away. This is very bizarre 0.0 But it might confirm this only happens when the phone is in deep sleep mode... Still doesn't answer why it doesn't happen on 3G or why notifications sometimes still come through.
EDIT 4: Still no fix but I have discovered that for some reason if the screen is off ANY data doesn't go through. Let me explain better:
If I have some thing like Pandora running then it will continue to run once I shut my screen off. But if WiFi isn't being used and I turn my screen off and then lets say I try to connect to it with Cerberus or ping it from my PC or something it will not even though the router reports it as connected.

This is interesting...maybe the wifi performance toggle is associated to the smartsync, and all?.....I will say that with it unchecked I am getting some really really good battery life here compared to previous phones....but I also notice at times when emails are not pushed till I wake the screen during the day....Also the fact my wifi doesn't automatically reconnect to my house when I get back from work till I wake the screen...little things like that...
Havent messed with the best performance setting but will try it today now...

Have it, and it is unchecked. That's the weird thing, wi fi doesn't actually turn all the way off because SOMETIMES I do get the push notifications (late, however).

what is the smart sync fix?
When I installed this app, my cpu reduction and frame rate reduction was enabled. Does that mean this is standard with this phone. Does using this app to disable those setting improve the performance?
Issue continued overnight, tried various other things and nothing seems to fix it. I want to get my notifications but I don't want to destroy my battery life xD is anyone else having this issue?

It's definitely not a hardware problem because if that was the case the phone wouldn't work with wi fi almost at all. My wi-fi connection is rock solid even when the screen is off, just for some reason it won't notify I have the messages until the screen gets turned on.
I did some tests on my gf's stock phone and she's having the same issues, I told her to do some tests on her parents wi-fi when she goes there. I wonder if sgt slaughter has any news.
Btw if you definitely need them on time and need to be on wi fi but don't care about battery life that much just enable best wi fi performance.

Actually more like a Smart Sync break ... The built in settings/app put your data connections to sleep when your phone goes to deep sleep; this is done to save battery when phone not in use for extended period.
Some folks hate losing the data connections so a flashable "fix" is available for the "problem" ... Look around; you'll find it

its a sense problem, there's a thread in the one x forums on how to fix it. I'll post when I get home if I can find it. it shuts down to a 'power save' mode after a while plus after midnight or 11 or something.
Just wanted to update that I installed a custom rom that contains the WiFi fix mentioned and although my WiFi doesn't seem to drop how it did before (at least after one day) my notifications are anywhere between 4-10 minutes late on average through WiFi. This seems to be across the board for Exchange email, Gmail & Google Voice.

Yes my setup also had the wi-fi fix, I can even see my phone connected to the router when the screen is off, the connection is strong.
I had a suspicion it was probably the basic transfer rate of the browser and for some reason I could not adjust this on my fancy 100 dollar router with dd-wrt flashed onto it so I set up a repeater with my older router on stock settings. It seems like the notifications are coming through better now (albeit not instantly) but at least I don't have to turn my screen on every time. It might be a placebo effect or just luck (because at times it does work even with my other router).
EDIT: Ignore the italicized sentence. It was just a stroke of luck, the problem came back.

I am rooted and running Fresh Evo LTE 5.1.1 which has the "Disabled SmartSync deep sleep mode" already installed. I also leave my WiFi off (for the same reason as the OP outlines - messages are just plain not arriving or if they do it's after I turn the screen on).
I use gtalk as my primary form of communication on my phone and what seems to be happening is messages from my two closest friends are never arriving. It's hit or miss but seems to be ~45mins after my screen turns off that they send a message and I never get it. One is on Sprint on my family plan and the other is on Verizon. The weird thing is that if I look in my gmail > conversations the messages aren't there either.
I haven't been able to verify any SMS messages that I haven't received but I have noticed that my email notifications seemed a bit wonky but this issue may be fixed with changing my "push" hours (which is retarded to have factory set to only push email between 8am - 8pm).
Question for the smart kids in the class: When does the phone reach "deep sleep"? Is it around ~45mins after the screen turns off?

I haven't been able to verify any SMS messages that I haven't received but I have noticed that my email notifications seemed a bit wonky but this issue may be fixed with changing my "push" hours (which is retarded to have factory set to only push email between 8am - 8pm).
Question for the smart kids in the class: When does the phone reach "deep sleep"? Is it around ~45mins after the screen turns off?

I also have the dual core mod which I BELIEVE sets my deep sleep right away which is probably why I have the problem more often than you do. One question just so we can start gathering facts large scale, if you're on 3G do you have the problem still? What if you turn 'best wi-fi performance'?

Correct - I have this problem on 3G. I run on only 3G because the problem is more prevalent on WiFi, but still very common on only 3G.
Currently I have "best wifi performance" turned off. Do you want me to test with it on or off?

On. When I turn it on it pretty much eliminates the issue, it acts just like 3G. But for me 3G is almost perfect (a couple seconds of delay but I can deal with that). Remember though that if you leave it ticked on it will destroy your battery life.
WiFi is on, best WiFi performance is on as well.. I'll run it this way a couple of days and see if I can replicate the problem.
I just wanted to say that I've been having similar issues. I have tried turning on best wifi performance, but I don't think that is helping. For one thing, when I have that turned on, when I wake the phone, the wifi is often times not connected, and it shows 3G. Then it will connect to wifi shortly after I wake the phone. On top of that, I'm still not getting notifications on time. I was notified of an email when I woke the phone that actually came in 10 minutes earlier. Hopefully HTC/Sprint is aware and working on a fix.
Still no fix but I have discovered that for some reason if the screen is off ANY data doesn't go through. Let me explain better:
If I have some thing like Pandora running then it will continue to run once I shut my screen off. But if WiFi isn't being used and I turn my screen off and then lets say I try to connect to it with Cerberus or ping it from my PC or something it will not even though the router reports it as connected.
Very strange behavior.
I get this daily notification to enable location services so it can update the network time even though I already have the system setting to update network time automatically.
It is coming from the phone as you can see and it still rings and vibrates even though i have them off.
I spent an hour on the phone with huawei today and they said it must be an app requesting the location which doesn't make sense to me as it says it is to update the network time (which I already have on).
I have never had a phone insist I turn on location services with a daily reminder before.
Just turn it on and leave it...it helps with many things that the phone does...maps, third party apps that find cell towers and WiFi hot spots, and of course what time zone you are in.

Any luck with this? I've got this damn annoying notification popping up every few hours or so too.... Have tried manual date and time adjustment. Also tried unticking all notifications managements within and it still shows up

I'm also experiencing this, I tried the same things as other posters here but still haven't found a way to stop this annoying daily notification. I'm on a Huawei P20 Pro.
Try turning off automatic time zone (whatever it's called in your settings)

I, too, am having this problem (also - as yet - without resolution) on Huawei.
I believe this problem (for me) is BECAUSE I have "automatic update" for Time/Clock turned off, and GPS turned off, BUT Google Services wants it/them turned on (by default). Indeed, I am lead to believe that you cannot remove Google Services from Android, while disabling Google Services is not effective. Love, Fred (not my real name).
Anyone using smarthome devices that are using the geolocation of the phone to be triggered?
I have Phillips hue and Netatmo welcome and cannot see me when coming home except if my screen is opened and also open google maps and update manual my location.
Tried giving access to these apps not to sleep or use battery optimization but still nothing.

I use a Tado system and I have noticed on the odd occasion it doesn't know I'm home with this phone, though setting the app to be exempt from throttling of data and exempt from power management seems to almost have resolved the issue.
Could you please share how to do that of throttling of data?

I too have the Tado and it only updates my location when I open Maps and physically click on the blue dot to zoom in on my location or e.g. start navigating.
I've tried all the obvious like disable maps and tado battery optimisation, allow background data and what have you. On the Mate 10 pro this worked flawlessly btw so this has to be m20p related...
Together with the not too good curved screen (letters/graphics falling off), green tint, poor face and fingerprint recognition this is for me a reason to maybe get rid of this phone...
So you have already gone to:-
Battery settings, more battery settings, turn on "stay connected when device sleeps"
I use TADO with Mate20x AL00 and that fixed it for me.
Also make sure you have toggled the app power settings then it should be ok.

What app power settings toggle do you mean, under special access, battery optimization?
In the meantime I've put Automate to work (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.llamalab.automate&hl=en) and made this little flow that seems to be a good work around. Starting Tado in the last block is there now only to check if it works, nothing else.
Update: this is a workflow that works really well. Let me know if you want more info.
