I don't recommend rooting XZ1 if it's your first android. It requires unlocking the bootloader which would wipe the DRM keys. you would lose camera low light denoise and some other functions.

No, it will not. Rooting will not affect anything on your device.

Usually, rooting the device does not affect the phone's data partition. However, some methods of unlocking devices (like with my Photon) causes the phone's data (such as apps) to be erased. I don't have much knowledge with the One S, so don't take my word on this. The good news is that either way, your pictures should be safe if they are on a SD card.

Rooting has nothing to do with your data. That is factory reset that causes the data to be wiped. And that too phones data. Apps and all. NOT SD card data.

No "unlocking" is another name for rooting (and maybe S-OFF) your phone.

Do root harm the device ?

i rooted my E10i by SuperOneclick, but after a couple of months of rooting the device starts troubling. It starts auto-shutdown. Now i have changed the battery and it is ok now. So is rooting harmful for battery or the device ?

No, not if you don't do anything else with it. Rooting can only harm your device if you actually delete stuff from the system-area that your phone needs, but your battery-troubles were not caused by just rooting it
I don't know if you agree with me, but rooting might be the safest thing that you can do

Rooting allows you to access the phone's filesysten beyond /sdcard aka the root filesystem which contains system data. Apps which you allow root access can do that too.
Rooting will not harm your device in any way except if you mess something up while deleting things.

are we safe with rooted roms

I can't recall where I saw on these forums but....
The Xperia Ultra rom exploits all seem to use vroot. However vroot had been found ti be sending IMEI numbers back to China. Nice
But given that hamdogg. Et.Al have used vroot in ROMS they have released, who feels worried?
Is there another root exploit you are using?
vroot is not working any more.

You are safe with a custom ROM. They don't use any tool... don't need to.
- With a rooted ROM, it flashes the superuser or superSU app, and applies the appropriate binaries and permissions directly to the ROM system.
But... to get a recovery flashed onto your system, you'll need to use vROOT or a similar tool, as it will need root access to apply the recovery script, and flash recovery. So.. you must have already used such a tool to originally root your device...
Two Important Points here:
- The app/s only "MAY" have your IMEI numbers stored. I say may, because all we currently know is that the IMEI numbers were read, we don't know for sure if they have been stored anywhere.
- If the app/s continues to send information [we currently don't know this yet] then it would be better to have a custom ROM. As it will clear your device of all app data and have ROOT access. This is only if you want to have a rooted device.
Hope that clears things.

You don't need root access to flash a custom recovery. You can just flash from fastboot. You can use the original recovery found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2426736
You need an unlocked bootloader though. Also you need to remember to flash your normal kernel back afterwards, although that will be done automatically if you flash a custom rom from recovery,

No, but you do need to be rooted to backup your TA Partition.
Thats the trade off. If you unlock without first having root you can't restore TA and the DRM at a later date.
I rooted with Vroot and backed up mine, but I would have unlocked the bootloader regardless if I had too. Not missed any off the DRM tools at all.

Try kingroot. Better off to just bootloader unlock, but that wipes data

Remove startup ?

Have an unlocked oneplus 7T running the android ten. Not sure if that matters. Phone was originally used on t mobile. I now use it on att. Every time I turn the phone on the t mobile startup screen displays. Is there a way to get this off without rooting the phone ?
Thanks
Flash global firmware but first fastboot erase all. Backup persist and efs partitions before hand.
Do I need root for this ?
