My US998 is rooted. Yesterday I received notification of an available OTA update. Has anybody applied it on a rooted phone? Did it work and remain rooted?

If you have TWRP it won't install.
Be eager to go down to the US998 Oreo KDZ thread, install the KDZ from there, then reinstall TWRP and root.

IF I ROOT, WILL I GET OTA UPDATES?
Yes. Rooting will not prevent this, unless you flash a custom ROM that will block receiving the OTA update. If you do receive and download the OTA update, you will lose root. Typically within hours of the OTA becoming available, thanks to some fine XDA folks you can get the update WITH root. You would simply need to download and flash the update like a normal ROM.

This might be a stupid question... But since the wifi calling update I cannot temproot my phone anymore with superoneclick and remove bloatware...I was wondering if I unlock and root my phone, is there a way that I'll still be able to recieve OTA updates??? if so how...
Thanks in advance.

Yes you can still recieve OTA updates just not via OTA.
If you root and unlock bootloader then all you'd have to do is wait for one of the devs...mainly X to get the OTA and put it in a ROM.
Then all you'd have to do is download and flash and you'll have whatever the newest OTA is.

Yes, you won't be able to download over-the-air updates, you will have to manually flash a custom rom with the OTA pre-installed on it.

is this also true if I relock bootloader and put stock rom back on there as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335703

If you're running completely stock again you should be able to download the OTA but doing so will cause you to lose root.
So you'd have to root again.
If I root the HTC One on the stock rom well I still get the OTA updates from T-Mobile?

I swear this type of question must be asked in every thread. Try SuperSu and do some research for upgrading and keeping root. Rooting has been around for a while and there are ways around this. Honestly though why do people root if they want to get factory updates. You do realize that a factory updated rooted version would be out before or shortly after an official release is out....
OTA update and a rooted phone is not a big deal... Jus sayin
To answer your question directly...if you have stock recovery then yes. If you have custom recovery then no.
search next time but...
stock rom with root yes you will get updates.
If you have a custom recovery it may not flash.
I flash the tmobile ota ( the .28 one) with clockworks and all was fine.
Hey guys. Just got a lg g3 off swappa. Just wanted some information regarding the current state of root/custom roms. Also...should/can I update to the latest OTA or is it only rootable up to a certain version? Thanks!!
dont take no ota's. if u r on 10b u can root and add a recovery by bump. if u r on a later software like 11c or 12b u can go back.
hi. thanks for getting black. can you still root the latest ota?

Thanks for asking that question! I also picked up a red one off swappa this week to play with., and wanted to know the same. Off to find the downgrade instructions, I'm on 12B.
Curious that you guys would buy a phone that's been out for a while, then look into root and roms.
Would have sucked if there was no way past a certain build.
Just a thought for the future.
All versions can be rooted ATM, iirc. Stump root only works on 10b. There is a different method using adb for other versions. You can downgrade backwards to 10b from all.
Latest ota is 12b. The 23a and 23b ROMs u may see are leaked builds and not official OTA.

Well you updated for nothing.
Now you have to temporarily downgrade back to early Oreo. After bootloader unlock, then you can update back to Pie.
Root Sticky everyone should read:
ROOT YOUR V30!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/root-v30-t3927154
Free advice: NEVER upgrade until you know root requisites. In this case you can still do the TEMPORARY downgrade back to Oreo for bootloader unlock with WTF exploit. But what if you couldn't?
You should check before updating to new OS, not after.

Same TWRP for Pie as for Oreo. V30 TWRP dev says it's stable and we're sticking with it.
See WTF instructions for bootloader unlock and root.
Read the Root Sticky, linked above. It has link for WTF bootloader unlock.
What variant do you have? Full Pie KDZ has been released for several variants, but others still waiting.
