USB external hard drive size limitation? - Android Stick & Console AMLogic based Computers

I'm looking to get one fo these AMLogic based boxes and some of the specs say they support up to a 1TB USB hard drive (like the T95Z), and some don't specify any size limit at all (Mecool BB2 Pro). I'm looking at an S912 or S905X powered box and I want to hook up 2TB and 4TB hard drives to it. Is there really a 1TB hard drive size limitation on some of these, or possibly all of them? If so, is there a way around it? Is it just a partition size limit?

[Q] SSD upgrade on 101/70 possible?

Can this be done?
At least on 101, is the software tied to the HDD SN as in the past? That's what stopped me from buying an Archos, so far.
Wouldn't be great replacing the HDD with a SSD drive? I bet the battery life would be awesome!
On the 70 maybe a hardware mod, connecting a 1.8" SSD with adapter directly to the USB port.
Any hidden/internal not connected USB ports?
Some might say I'm daydreaming but any of the above would really increase the value of the two Archos models.
A101 does not contain any kind of a harddrive, it just has 8 or 16 GB of flash storage (system is communicating to it like it is a MMC/SD card).
So there is no way of doing the upgrade?
What about the 70H? Can a HDD swap/upgrade be done?
Thanks!
Is the A70H the one with the 250GB HDD? If so, open the device and check what kind of HDD it is (Serial ATA? 1.8" or 2.5"?) and then you can decide whether it's replaceable or not.

I'm sorry if I didn't explain properly: I'm interested in buying a 70, would love having the big storage, except I don't trust the moving parts inside.
So what I would do is take out the HDD (BTW: I saw a photo somewhere it's a 2.5"SATA Seagate) and install a SSD. This way I don't have to worry about the moving parts, shocks, etc.
With the old models, Archos used to lock down the device by checking the SN of the HDD and if it wouldn't match the original one, it wouldn't boot.
There were people that went to the extent of buying a specific brand/model of HDD that had a hack to change the SN/name/model, etc.
That's what made me wonder if this is still the case or we can swap/upgrade the drives now.
On the 70S we can try with a small 1.8" SSD and a USB adapter by soldering the whole thing inside on the USB port.
If we could find some other unused/not connected USB port would be even better.

USB for 2.5 hard disk NTFS

Hy,
Is there real that the Prime don't accept 2.5 hard disk on the USB port of the dock?
I still don't have the prime but I know some of these disks need more power than the defined on the USB standard, so if the usb connector doesn't give that extra power the disk won't work, though I don't know if it's a hardware or a software limitation (in that case a custom kernel could solve the problem).
i'll let you know when i get my dock, but iirc it worked fine on my tf101...
Hi,
you are able to use 2,5" HDD in Fat and Fat32...
Try out NTFS now.
Edit: I'm able to use a 2,5" HDD in Fat32 and my 8GB USB Stick with NTFS. So I think it is also possible to use a 2,5" HDD with NTFS
I had no problems with my Western Digital.
My 1TB My Passport USB 3.0 formatted NTFS runs just fine off of the dock.
ok thanks i'm happy to see that the usb port of the dock is good working
for the 2.5 hard drive in ntfs, it's a good new !

OTG cable

mmmm.
See, I decided to buy 1 or 2TB of external Hard Drive for my Z2...
So the question is, does my device get affected badly if the drive is 90% full?
And is it risky to access an External Hard Drive with phone via OTG...?

It is not recommended to use such high capacity drives with OTG for long time or not at all because the micro Usb cannot supply enough power to the such large hard drives
Yeah my Z2 can't use my Samsung USB 3.0 1TB USB hard drive, it works on my externally powered drive, but I think there may be an upper limit on external storage size that a phone can handle to take into consideration as well.
As mentioned above, I've also had problems with a 2tb drive but with a flash drive works perfect and instant

Can an X96 Mini power a 240gb SSD without additional power source?

I use my X96 Mini plugged into a spare USB port on my TV without any additional power. I don't know for certain but I think the USB port on the TV is a standard USB2.0 outputting at 5V 500ma.
The X96 Mini can handle any USB stick I've got without fail, but 2.5" portable HDD's don't work without additional power.
Now I'm wondering if it can handle an SSD which - unless I'm mistaken - shouldn't use much more power than a USB stick.
I'm thinking about getting a cheap 240GB SSD like this Kingston SA400S37/240G SSD but I can find no way of verifying if it'll receive enough power to work on my X96 Mini.
If anyone with the necessary hardware (ie, a similar android box with a similar SSD) and could test this for me I'd be incredibly grateful.

Unable to play video stored in external hard drive

Hi, I hope someone can help me. I got the Tab S7 but having issues in trying to playback videos that is stored in my Seagate external hard disk. I do not have this issue when using my notebook.
What kind of external drive is it? SSD? Or platter?
If the latter, the tablet doesn't have enough power to power the drive and read the data.
Hi, tks for your reply. It is a Seagate One Touch 2TB harddisk, I believe it is non-SSD. Does it mean if I get an SSD it should be ok?
It SHOULD. SSD's require much less power than platter drives since the are no moving parts.
I have a Samsung T5 1TB SSD that I've successfully used with my Tab S7. Samsung has a 2TB version. Just be aware that SSD's cost more than platter drives with the same capacity. They are much smaller though.
Appreciate your advice.
