video quality bad in messages - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

so my wife and i use the stock samsung messaging app. when we try to send messages through sms they aren't the best quality. should we change the settings or maybe use a different messaging app? ill include video i made today and sent her. any suggestions would be awesome we are both coming from iphone 6s plus. heres link to video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCf9k_bVetA&feature=youtu.be

From my experience in general with multiple carriers and different phones, sending video via mms will always downgrade and distort the video quality due to limitations by the carrier (this is a common issue with all carriers and a google search will provide an explanation of why that occurs). Sometimes you might get an error that the video size is too large and can't be sent. When texting from iphone to iphone it's being sent over imessage not mms therefore your video quality won't be modified in any way. I personally use Google Allo when it comes to sending video files but any messenger app like fb or whatsapp will also do the trick.

Anything sent over MMS is limited to right around 1mb, carrier dependant. iPhones, as you're used to, uses iMessage, which is more of an internet based chat rather than a true SMS app. iMessage I believe limits you to 100mb.
Now, depending on what carrier you're on, Samsung uses RCS to send media, which kind of works like a combination of MMS and iMessage, and will allow you to send MUCH larger files. I know T-Mobile and Sprint have it active for Galaxy S7/8/9 users on the same carrier, and it should be going into wide spread release in the US in about a year.
If you're outside the US, I couldn't even begin to tell you about your carrier.

Visual Voicemail ?

DCD/GC...or anyone else...
I've been reading over at engadget mobile ( http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/...-visual-voicemail-seep-through-verizons-pore/ )that verizon/sprint has visual voicemail in the works (specifically listed are some new LG/Blackberry phones).
Do you guys know anything about this for the 6800?
(iIm sure a lot depends on Verizon's side as far as setting up the infrastructure before it can be used by us...but It looks like theve started on that already).
Any education on the topic is appreciated as well!

I've been using the Free Callwave for awhile now on Verizon. While not 100% the same, you do get text transcribed messages of the vocal message. It also sends you a WAV file of the message in email, which plays well on the 6800.
seeing as how the devices this feature are going to be initially available for are not windows based, I doubt we will see such a thing for the 6800 anytime soon

Or are you referring to the voice2text service through Spinvox?

I went to their website and couldn't find a free version for mobile phones, was it one of those deals you get grandfathered into if you have the account long enough? If there is a secret link to get to it like AVG has, I would appreciate it if you could share
Thanks,

Maybe thats what i meant... sorry. i just know the lady at the storew was pitching it too me.. i was paying half attention..
The Sprint Instinct has visual VM
I have it on Telus in Canada with my Titan, not sure if the US does it the same but it seerms to be outsourced to third party companies Telus uses spinvox...which i believe to be the same company that does it for the iphone. What u get is a email with transcribed text of your voicemail and a wav file with the voicemail as well as a text message with the same transcribed voicemail. I can't see them releasing an app specific to windows mobile just yet seeing how it is so generic at this point using just email and text.
The features are all selectable for instance (with Telus anyway) you can choose to:
Send the transcription and wav file to email or not
Send the transcription as text to your phone or not
Delete message from your voicemail once its been transcribed and sent or not
The benefits are reduced time checking voice mail as you can read the voicemail you want real quick, you can also archive your voicemail as you have it in a physical wav file. There may be other benefits as well. The transcription is pretty accururate for the most part however i your caller is talking fast, mumbling or mixes up their words the message can be pretty much useless, even though most of the message in this case gets transcribed correctly even one word transcribed incorrectly can have a total different meaning and be quite confusing.
The disadvantages, at least for spinvox seems to be buggy, I was getting duplicate messages deposited into my telus voicemail I called my carrier and they determined it to be an issue with the third party and transfered me to their technical support, they collected the info and described it as a known issue, meanwhile it is taking double the time to actually go through my physical voicemail and delete messages, the turn around time is 5 business days!
It's also expensive on Telus at least it is either 50 cents a message or $15 for unlimited.
There is another third party that does offer an app for windows mobile and they are called simulscribe, I have not tried them so I can not really provide any info.
Has anyone heard if this is available for the 6800? I heard it's on the new Omnia.

[Q] Android Group MMS SMS Chat like iPhone iOS4

I have searched many forums and the market to no avail so I was hoping someone here could help.
Is there any way we, android users, can get a function similar to iOS4 users with their "group mms" option. To those of you not familiar, its basically a chat room like feature that uses your text messages. For example, if I were to create a new text on the iphone, I could add more people to it. Once it's sent out, if anyone replies, that reply will go to all of those in the group and so forth. In essence, a chat room is created where everyone receives a copy of everyone else's text.
At any rate, a few of my friends have iphones and I was hoping to be able to communicate with them in such a manner but neither the stock messaging application or handcent has this function. The few options that might work would involve having all of my friends download some new app along with myself and even that doesn't work all the time.
ANY help would be much appreciated.

This post was originally in a phone specific forum but I feel that it needs more exposure since it is a pretty significant issue for android. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=774990
Basically it comes down to not being able to be part of a group MMS if you are not the sender.
iOS attaches all users in a group message to the header of an MMS message, and when this message is received on an android device the receiver can only see the sender, not the other people in the conversation. So, when the android user tries to reply to this message it only gets sent to the originator of the group message instead of all of the users in the group.
Currently, there is an application that handles this functionality and it is the Verzion Messages application. However, this application is out-dated and is missing other messaging features.
AT&T also has an application that addresses this issue, however, not many people have had success with it. At least for me, using my Galaxy Nexus on AT&T (4.0.2), the application opens and only shows a blank screen.
Can we get a developer to modify a current texting application, or create a new one that handles group MMS that recognizes all users of the group and will send a reply to everyone, not just the originator?
NOTE: Some other 3rd party texting applications allow group texting, but will only work if you are the originator.
How many other people have run into this issue?
I have run into the exact same issue. I have spent hours researching various workarounds, but a lot of people, forum topics, and companies think this issue isn't an issue at all. Handcent, Chomp, and Go SMS all say they have "group" messaging, but what they describe is more like a batch send out, not a threaded sms like the iphone and even now Verizon phones through the Verizon Messages Application.
I know there is an open ticket with google that is mentioned in the forum you linked to. I'm a new user so I can't link to it, but it is mentioned and linked to in post #92 on that forum you linked.
Hopefully someone or one of the bigger companies will get a handle on this.
I also would like to see this addressed. With many friends/family with iPhones it is crippling my texting abilities when I get so many group sms chats. Basically from an OS perspective it is making users of Android phones appear inferior to iPhone users.
I was looking into this today after becoming annoyed that i couldn't join a group mms thread w/ some iOS friends. It seems Verizon's VZMessages app works with the threaded group mms's. I did some tests w/ both iphone and android friends and it seems to work the same as for iphones. Since it's a vzw app, i have no idea what usability is for other carriers, and i've had some issues on my rooted dinc (display artifacts). Also, the design is terrible and looks like their target user is about 5 years old w/ all the bright primary colors and bubbly icons.
try it out and let me know how it works for you guys.
since i'm a new user, i can't post the market link to it, but you can find it in the google play app market.
Not sure if you guys saw this yet, but in the development section trikotret updated the handcent app to handle the iphone like group texts. I just installed it to try it out. I can't post links yet either but it the thread title is "Handscent Android group chat like iPhone"
Here is the flow on how to get there:

same issue
we had a text clan, or a group of people in a texting community, kinda popular here in the philippines. i've been looking for an app like those but nothing suits what we need. i tried groupme, but it crashes and needed to be online, also a force close issue in handcent which claims to have this feature. we used to do a traditional GMs or Group Messages in a send to many or batch mode only to send all GMs (equivalent to tweets in online world) to all our members. but as an android user i want to take advantage of it. here's the thing to address:
1. an app for sms/mms like gosms or equivalent.
2. this app can have a unified inbox. something like ChatOn or Socialhub of samsung but still integrated offline sms/text to local contacts.
2. options to offline only or if online.
3. group local/offline chat (threaded style, not just a batch send
4. whenever someone replied that is included in the group, it is in the same thread. or for short, sms with 2 or more person in a single thread locally.
5. even non android or typical mobile phone can receive it as a text message. so even nokia 5110 user can reply, ofcourse he will only receive what is sent to him. not always the entire thread content.
got my point?
by the way, sorry for my english.
Verizon Messaging works for me
GoSMSpro has a setting for this. Under send settings enable MMS grop chat.
handcent works ok for this but i'm in disbelief that it hasn't been addressed by google yet. did apple patent this feature or something?
i encourage everyone to star the issue at google's android project page:

This has been addressed. This function is now standard in Jelly Bean 4.2 see link: http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-galaxy-nexus-rooting-roms-hacks/207431-group-text-messaging-jb-achieved.html

[MOD][REQ]Remove 100 text/hour limit for AOxP ROMS

This seems to be a common but unaddressed issue with AOxP ROMs. Apparently ICS does a poor job of splitting messages nor does it allow more than 100 messages to be sent an hour. For messages that are split the text received is garbled (not in the order sent or unreadable). It does not matter what SMS app you use (Handcent, GoSMS, or stock) the results are the same.
To recreate the issue, send a text with 200 characters or more, to 20 or more recipients. While that message is sending, send another text (test) to one person. You will get a popup stating that a large number of texts are being sent; press cancel to stop or ok to keep sending. If the message is sent the recipient will either not get the entire message or it will not be received at all. This is for messages sent to any carrier (GSM or CDMA).
This is such a frustrating issue for me, I am willing to pay for help. If you are a developer, and are willing to help, please let me know. If the fix works it should be made available to everyone.
I did try this tweak to no avail.

Thanks I'm cool with that. Just don't want it to get lost in the shuffle, or not receive the attention it deserves.
That's a fk ton of texts. I'm curious why you would want to send so many texts on a regular basis? Not flaming, just genuinely curious.

I lead a men's ministry and the best way to communicate with them in realtime is via text.
How realtime is Google +, making a circle for just your group, but then all would have to have Google accounts....?
A Fan page via Facebook...?
Twitter page wth just your group?
Palringo: desktop and app...I use it.. Palringo...you can make room/chats for just your group...Palringo is a server-based instant messaging client for various platforms. It supported several protocols such as AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, XMPP/Jabber, Google Talk, Gadu-Gadu, ICQ, MobileMe/iChat and Facebook IM.[1] As of May 11, 2012, Palringo stopped supporting third party IM protocols to focus on their own group messaging system
Idk...just ideas... Just an idea till your request is looked at?

Great ideas! Unfortunately many of the guys are not tech savvy and even less do social sites. Most of them have regular, non-smart phones. All of them have text plans so this is the agreed up method of communication. Trust me, I'd rather do something like Facebook. I have 6 phone lines for my family (four children). All the children text. We do so little calling that we have the smallest/lowest voice plan AT&T offers. I just can't believe AOSP has built in limitations for texting in 2012.

How about using google voice for texting. I use it along with the stock messaging. Doesn't seem to split texts. No mms support as of yet, but texting works great. Just need to get a google voice number. You can use that number strictly for your ministry. Can even receive calls on it on multiple lines. Works very well. You can also send and receive texts from your PC.

[Q] Media & Group Messaging Broken

Hey, folks. I'm new, obviously.
I recently rooted and s-offed my LTEVO. I installed TWRP 2.6.3.0 and CM10.1 Stable (I also installed the exFAT fix). The problem I'm having and that I'm reading a lot of people are having is with MMS. I'm not sure if group messaging falls into MMS or SMS but I can neither send/receive picture or media messages, nor can I SEND group messages (although I can receive them). I'm not sure what's going on behind the scenes, whether there's a fix that I just haven't found (I have done extensive searching/trolling before making a profile to ask this question) or if this is a common issue which may have been resolved in newer builds. Essentially, I was wicked pumped when I found out that I could receive group messages from people because the stock, unrooted LTEVO would receive "multimedia messages" from everyone participating in the conversation individually instead of all within the same thread or whatever you wanna call it. But, as I've come to find out, I can't actually participate in these group sessions, I can only SEE them organized within one text thread (which is still better than stock, but disappointing that it doesn't take one seemingly essential step further). Also, I thought it was just crappy Sprint service, but it seems that I can't send or receive multimedia messages (that aren't in text form). I was excited, again, to see that the preview of the image I was going to send was minimally compressed, if at all. I was sick of sending people screenshots of blurry, illegible caca, but again this feature falls short and now I can't actually send or receive any form of media.
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong, or maybe what I'm just NOT doing right. At any rate, if anyone could shed some light on my unfortunate situation that'd be stellar. I'm forced to use Voxer for the time being.
I'm having the same problem. Any assitance is welcome!
I can't say I completely understand your issue but will give an answer with my best guesstimate as to a fix.
You are trying to group messages with others that have iPhones. iPhones natively send texts as mms while android natively sends as sms. Hence your problem (I think).
You need to use a third party messaging app. There are a couple that handle this but I use Go Sms Pro. It allows you to send and receive texts all while staying in the group without splitting the messages.
Once you install go sms pro you need to change a few settings in the app (you can find the correct group settings on Google easily) and disable the notifications from the stock messaging app (so you don't get multiple notifications for one text).
Hope this is what you were asking about as it is an issue for a lot of people.

but does it work w/ wifi calling for group mms?
I hope it works with Wi-Fi calling, but I highly doubt it. I guess I am going to stick with the stock app, I just wished it the stock one was more full featured on the Android Wear similar to hangouts.
It doesn't work with WiFi calling on T-Mobile. No third party apps do as this is a carrier policy. It looks good, but for some reason I was getting double texts from group MMS messages.
Yea I can confirm that as well, unfortunate.
If TMO had full Google Voice integration like Sprint it would be nice that way not only MMS, but you can makw calls and send SMS/MMS from your computer as well. I really miss that.
I'd love to be able to send texts from within hangouts on the PC.
I know there are other apps available, but they're annoying, and most cost money for the 'good' features...

As a former Sprint user this is a big let down, I barely had my phone next to me, all SMS/MMS & calls were via my laptop (using my phone number). Then again Sprint's coverage was so bad lol.
unfortunately
Thank you for the post, I installed it on my Z3 all works fine but I just get my received messages not my sent messages, where it should be my received and sent messages.
Please help if there's a way, see screenshots attached
I get both, did you set it as default messaging app?
Third party applications do not work with T-Mobile's WiFi calling protocol. It's a bit ridiculous at this point, but I had to just return my Z3 before the 14-day period ended. They saw that the stock messaging app didn't support group MMS, and that I also reached out to the developers @ Sony.
They let me return the phone without paying the restocking fee. What a shame. Hopefully Sony comes out with a fix for their stock messaging application...or maybe one day T-Mobile will allow access to the WiFi Calling protocol for third party apps.
