This happens because of a bad battery. It may charge OK but its increased internal resistance will stop the boot process which at peak demands over 1A power supply. If you connect it to a good 2A charger with a short quality USB cable and turn it on, it may actually properly boot Android. So, it's time to replace the battery.

I'll quote myself from this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/help/phone-mi-logo-1-off-help-t3766929/post75976361
"It can not handle the high boot up current required for Android stage but is good enough to run fastboot. Sometimes it may boot Android if (2 Amp) charger is connected while turning it on."
"Damn man! You're the man! It's been lying unused since a freaking year!
I tried with my S7 Edge charger and it turned on. Turns off if I unplug it.
Can't believe the SC told me to replace the mobo.
Shall I get a battery off eBay? Is it easy to replace the battery by myself? "

temperature during issue occur: normal, nothing special (pretty sure)
charging light when charging cable plugin: no sign, no light
connect to computer: no recognized (driver installed, and worked fine before that)
download mode: can't get in
10 secs or more power button pressing: no response.
is there any possible I can get it back alive? any suggest will help.
================
thanks for your reply Jarmezrocks
yes, it seems battery run out problem. after I do couple of things below, it has been shown the charging light, and my phone has been back!
I m not sure the order of how i did these, but I think one of these works.
pull out battery for 5 mins or longer..
push power button for a long time (tried both with battery and without it)
push volume up and down together as usb cable plugin in, then pull back in the battery. I try this couple of times.
using another stocked charger from my friend, to make sure that's not charger problem.
I do above as I ref the "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30415128#post30415128" this is very good guide to the bricked android phones to try.
now, my phone is back alive, with all the settings and data as well, thank god!
either you wipe caches/ go to download mode and flash another firmware

May I ask, what charger are you using to charge your phone?
I have a feeling that the wall chargers for S3s (especially LTE) and just plain crap!
If you can, see if you can borrow someones SGS2 or SGS1 charger for your phone. These look different they are not a USB cord plugged into a wall socket. they are a plain charger only with a box that has its own cord coming out of it.
Try plug it in and don't try turn it on at all. Leave it plugged in for a good hour or so and then come back, unplug it first (you must unplug it or the power button won't do ****! I think its a special fail safe embedded in the kernel so the device doesn't get a double shot 1 from the batter and one from the DC charger?) and then push the power button. Hold it in a few seconds, see if the device powers on?

[Q] Xperia Ray not charging/ need to unroot to send for repair

Hi guys, i consider myself an intermediate around the android OS and i have tried most solutions that came to my head with no results.
My problem is the following:
My xperia ray is running stock rom ICS and is rooted. That's it
One day my battery suddenly drained to 0% and phone shut off.
Since then, i cannot charge it. Whenever i plugged it, the led blinks red /sometimes keep blinking/something always red/sometimes the phone boots after 10 seconds from entering the main page it will reboot.
I tried a different battery, the phone worked, so i bought another battery but the same happened, it suddenly went to 0% and not charging anymore.
Now I cannot access the phone via USB since it is not recognized and i can't work on it since there is no power,
What can i do to at least unroot it before sending it to warranty?
Try reflashing..

unlocked bootloader and rooted, or can you root without unlocking it? I actually forgot since the ray was always my secondary device.
Do you mean i rule out any hardware problem, this is related to software only ? Since my Pc cannot recognize the phone, it gives me usb device not recognized..
Might be a hardware problem..cant say for sure..

We cannot rule out any hardware problem as of now..,yes you can root without unlocking the bootloader.
This might be a software issue..are you running on stock kernel ?
Can you enter into fastboot or flash mode ?
Have u installed the adb drivers? does your pc recognise any other xperia 2011 phone ?

My phone isn't holding any charge, the battery is always 0, when charging it only gives red lights. Sometimes the phone will boot, it will show the xperia logo, go into the main lockscreen for 5 seconds then shuts off.
Buying a universal charger would mean waiting for 1 month for it to be delivered since i only found it on ebay

Was it damaged by water?
it's really easy to check if it was water damaged, open the back cover and look for a small WHITE rectangle, if you see a red rectangle it was water damaged, same with the battery it has a small white rectangle
IF NOT..see if SUS or PC companion recognises the phone..Repair your phone if it recognises.
IF NOT take out your phone battery for 15 seconds..put it back turn on the phone..and connect the charger but DO NOT SWITCH ON YOUR PHONE..let it charge for 5 HRS continuously..
IF NOT Try using another battery to turn your phone on...and see if it charges up..
Still NOT working?,Have you unlocked your boot loader ?

Thank you for your suggestions, i did something in the meanwhile.
I have a co-worker who has the exact phone, so i put my battery in her phone and charged it. In the meantime, i used her battery inside my device and used flashtool to flash stock ICS.
My device had bootloader unlocked, i managed to lock it back.
Now after i have a clean ICS copy unrooted. I return my friends phone, put in my battery and put it on the charger, the phone recognizes the charger, it gives me the small flash logo on the battery icon but the battery meter is not charging.
I'm afraid it's going to stay on until the battery drains to 0 and then i'm back to square one.
At least now i'm unrooted and can check the sony service center if they could do anything.

The battery voltage is increasing or not ?
Do not trust the battery meter...The voltage reading will tell whether its working fine or not..
Close to 4200 mV is 100%
While 3400 mV is low battery less than 10% typically..

Well when it's plugged in, the lockscreen says charging. The battery icon has the flash sign on it. It is recognized by my Laptop. But the battery status is discharging and i monitored the voltage, it was decreasing.

Check if the port is clean and check the battery pins and pins on your phone.
Do you have the possibility to test another battery? So you can be sure it's not just your battery...
did you have try to let the smartphone shutdown by itselft? and charging the battery after that...
Sounding more and more like a hardware problem. If you have access to a voltmeter, turn your phone off, remove the battery and plug your phone in, check the voltage coming out of the battery terminals in the back. It should be ramping from 1 V to around 3.6 V (at least from the USB port, it might be higher from the wall charger).

thanks for the reply guys, I'm updating the thread so other people might benefit from reading it. I went to Sony service center. The technician first told me there was water damage, although i'm confident that the phone was never dropped in water. Also he showed me that the pins for the battery were bent.
He said he will inspect the motherboard, if it's not corroded (from water) he will replace the motherboard since it's still on warranty.
If it is corroded, he can't do anything.
The strange thing is that the phone is working 100% except i cannot charge it. USB function is working correctly.
PS: Always Unroot and re-lock your bootloader before sending to service, they will check for these and can refuse to serve you by the warranty.

[Q] Note 2 won't boot unless connected to charger.

The title says it all. My brothers Note 2 will only boot past the Galaxy Note 2 boot screen if it is connected to the charger. It doesn't matter if it is a USB or wall charge. If the phone is connected to a power source it boots into the system fine, however, once you remove it from the power source it turns off. I was wondering if it could be a bad battery but the charge is showing it at almost 80%. Has anyone ran into something like this before? If I try to boot the phone without it being connected, it sits at the Note 2 screen for about 15 seconds and then shuts itself off.
I'm not really sure but it sounds like the internals of the battery are closing up (shorting). Are you able to get another battery to test and see if it is the battery?

Having same issues
Seems it hardware plus software issue.
Running 4.1.1 Jelly Bean
Happened after installing few games .
Goes in constant boot loop
Can start by attaching power cord only to socket.
With USB attached to Laptop .. still goes in loop
Powerbank is workaround.
Seems to reboot when saving to sd card ..
Will keep posted

The problem, after getting a stock image back on the phone, ended up being a bad battery. The phone wouldn't hold a charge even though the charging image showed otherwise. Once you get a working image on there, try replacing the battery. I ordered an eight dollar cheapo battery from Amazon and it worked like a charm.

Thats first thing i did .. checked different battery ..
Battery is fine .. its not battery issue .. atleast in my case ..
i checked for SDS .. my phone has no SDS insane bug either .. though symptoms were same .
I have backup phone, using it.
I showed for mobile repair.
Said he will solve it .
So plan to take tomorrow.
I can root and all..
But after this booting dont want to brick it ..
So plan to do it via the mobile repair shop
Had same issue. Solved after replace the battery.
I have the same issue right now as well. I was on stock for awhile and used casual one click method, switched between a few roms. Than it started happening after that. So I flashed back to stock on odin and still have that issue. Havent figured it out yet.

I have had this issue and replacing the battery did the trick. I was having issues with the battery beforehand. once the battery showed as being at 17% the phone would start the reboot cycle and not fully boot until it was plugged in.
Have same problem here.....All these started when I replaced my bulge battery. New battery doesn't hold power below 20%. Phone goes off in boot cycle until plugged in a charger
Try to boot on USB/PC data connection
When connected t PC-system will boot to a point. PC indicates new connection then looses it and Note 2 returns to flash screen. Problem start when using corporate email and encrypted data. Works w/o error connected to wall charger. Disconnect crashes system. Flashes screen forever. No diagnostics. Did all SW reboots. Doubt battery, but will try.

Did you ever test a new battery/figure it out?
Mine is doing the same thing I think. I only boots if connected to a wall charger. If connected to PC with USB it will boot to the [T-Mobile in my case] boot screen, connect to PC for a split second (long enough to make the connection sound in windows, then I can't find it) and it stays on that screen. Without being connected to either, or after pulling plug, it turns off.
Same problem here with mine
can't be just the battery because it will stay on w/o charger when in download/recovery mode or if it gets stuck on the Verizon screen.

Green charging screen of death?

Hi all,
My phone cut out at about 10% battery charge earlier and wouldn't turn back on. I thought it was probably just bad battery stats. But now I'm home, even after an hour on charge (and 30 mins on another charger) the phone won't turn on. It also shows up as an unrecognised device in device manager.
Whats weird is that when I first plug the charger in, rather than seeing the blue battery logo, I see an unfamiliar green battery logo as attached.
Has anyone got any ideas on how to fix this? (Tried booting with the volume up and volume down buttons held)
It's also come at quite a frustrating time, I may not be able to reply until Sunday night as I'm off camping in the sticks for the weekend.
Thanks

Sadly that didn't work.

That is the conclusion I'm coming to, sadly there doesn't seem to be a UK stockist of the battery yet, but I guess in the mean time I can see if the seller will honour any form of warranty on the product. For now, I'm back on my old G3 and it doesn't even begin to compare. I loved my Elephone.
Bad luck my friend.....I have a samsung galaxy 2 and one day run out of battery and never awake again....weird things
I think it should be cover with warranty.....Is one year in China
Type a email to Elephone support and they must be assist you because the phone is less than one year in the marketing.
I hope you will have a possitive news from Elephone
Thanks, I'll let you know how I get on.
I have the same problem a while ago with the green thing logo while charging , I even try it on wireless charger but it has the same thing with the green logo of battery ...but luckily it charge normally with blue logo
I have seen this on my screen a few times when I ****ed my bootloader during flashing. Device ended up being semi-bricked. I could not flash via SPtools because my device didn't get recognized. I was able to fix it luckily!
Hi all, sorry for the delay in responding.
So, the first problem was the battery. You need to charge it beyond 3.8v I think to get the phone to turn on, probably better to get it to 4v so you have enough charge stored to use the phone. The phone can't charge the battery below a certain threshold (around 3.7v) so you have to remove the battery and use a lithium-ion battery charger (any phone battery charger), these are available for about £2 on ebay.
In my phone the USB port had also stopped working for data transfer. I tried changing the board with the USB port on to no avail.
I replaced everything but the screen in the end to get it working.
Are/were you on stock OS or had you replaced it with another rom? Just for a bit more clarity of the problem.

It needs a fair amount of current during boot up, a charger may not supply enough.
Batteries last 1-3 years. I just look at replacing them as part of normal maintenance.
Get it out of there before it fails... any swelling is an Li failure which can cause severe damage.
hey thanks for the info
I tried to start from stock using Rescue tool from motorola
everything went normal but now i tried to boot up and nothing happens even with the charger plug in
any help thanks

Try replacing the battery, then go from there.
It may be a dead end but you need to eliminate it as the cause. You could also check it's voltage after a failed boot to get an idea of it's condition.
Fully charge it first... and don't short it out while measuring it. Measure before and right after boot attempt with no charger.
4.3 volts is about 100%
3.9 volts is about 70%
3.5 volts is about 20%
Since it's a no load reading at 100% it should be near 4.3 volts. After the attempt if it drops below 4 volts it's likely toast.
Thanks
But isn't the display supposed to turn on when I plug in the charger
Not even the display shows anything..

Probably time to have it examined. May be a loose connector, a C-port or a mobo failure.
Or may be from a bad flash...

3.5 volts is about 20%
Since it's a no load reading at 100% it should be near 4.3 volts. After the attempt if it drops below 4 volts it's likely toast.

I think I found out the battery is bad
I disconnected the battery and plugged in charger. The led blinks and tries to boot up
When I connected the battery and then plugged in charger nothing happens not even the led blinks

Will the boot menu come up?
Charge the battery to at least 70% before you use it... right?

Try a hard reboot. Disconnect/reconnect the battery if needed. Inspect it's contacts if you do and all other ribbon cable connections... make sure nothing slipped by.
Is the charge port pcb good?
Pull SD and sim cards if present.

I redid everything
same results as before except for the fist boot when i installed new battery
something i noticed when in fastboot mode when i have it connected to charger with no battery connected where it says :
TRANFER mode: usb connected
but it shuts off i believe because the battery is not connected

Not for sure it sounds like either the C port pcb or mobo is bad.
Any indication the battery is charging ie heat when on the charger?
