Development support? - LG V30 Questions & Answers

I wonder what the likelihood will be for the V30 to attract more development of custom ROMs now that TxanMoe has discovered the "wtf" method of unlocking bootloader?
Personally I think the hardware and design of the phone is still up there with the best in terms of what I need in a phone (H930DS here). Its just some of the software that lets it down. The ultimate for me would be to have a Nexus-like stock android without losing the DAC, camera app and dual-SIM capabilities of this device.

I can only speak for myself, but now that LG and Samsung are making it next to impossible to root, I will be moving on to a developer friendly phone with my next purchase. I had ordered an H931 from eBay for $250 after the WTF method was verified, but it was canceled due to the account being compromised (I thought $250 was a LITTLE too cheap for a V30 -- but took the chance). I was going to order an LS998 -- there are plenty to be had for $275 to $300 (which is still a great deal), but I just can't bring myself to invest more money in a device that may be rootable NOW, but if I have to send it in for service (bricked it), I don't want to get a phone back that is patched. This happened to me with the H918 V20, and it took me 6 months to root the damn thing.
The HTC U12+ is missing some features that I want, but they are developer friendly. The Razer 2 will be announced shortly, and hopefully they fixed the short comings of the Razer 1 that I just couldn't get over.
The bottom line is, it gets OLD having to find holes in your phone -- a phone that you OWN. Again, I can only speak for myself, but I have a feeling that a lot of other developers are tired of the BS as well.
Tis been fun, but as soon as a phone with an SD845 that ticks all the checkboxes I am looking for is released, I will sell all my LG phones, and move on.

I myself am holding on for a Pixel 2 rom port. I believe the V30 shares a lot with the Pixel 2 XL and probably is just a matter of time before a developer releases one. Until then I won't root because honestly the H933 stock rom is working great for me with battery and performance and the only thing I would root for right now is to install v4a.

I have owned Samsung and LG devices almost exclusively, besides some HTC's sprinked in, since the dawn of Android but I have come to the same conclusion since purchasing my S8+ and V30. Great minds must think alike because I've decided on the Razer 2 as well and can't wait to see what's coming as the leaks trickle in over the next few months!

LG G2 price drop bad news?

Does anyone think these crazy deals on the G2 means something is inherently bad with the G2? Maybe the networks are giving up on it or something else is coming out soon? Maybe this means there will be more out there so better dev support? I'm not sure but my wife and I are getting each getting one tonight.

You'll be happy you did. This device is fantastic!! All those reviewers out there crapping on this phone are sharing each others medications or something. They need to use it for more than 20mins.
Yea. Its a great phone. You won't be disappointed with it

No, I don't think something new is coming out I think they are not selling as much as an iPhone or Galaxy phone. People have no idea what they are missing.
Just got mine
I just got one yesterday, and I am damn glad I did. Love this thing already!! P.S. Price drop can mean more people picking one up too.

Doubt it, I was told by multiple Verizon employee's that they we're selling more samsung and apple devices. One store didn't even carry the G2 for that reason.
Well then that very well might mean more dev support as those who are buying it are probably our type .

My android progression has been: HTC Thunderbolt, Galaxy Nexus, Droid Razr Maxx HD, and now the LG G2. This phone is AWESOME! Best of the bunch. I've seen the S4 and HTC One, and I think this phone is better than them (although I do really like the HTC One form factor). As you can see, I have no brand loyalty . Hopefully these low prices will get lots of people buying the phone and make it a lot more popular than it is now. It deserves to be in as many peoples hands as possible!
Verizon is doing this to keep its customers. The g2 is identical to the nexus 5, they know this. Anyone with half a brain knows this.
So, have people jump ship and go to sprint or att for 150 dollar phone?
Or they can stay on verizon, get the same phone for 50 bucks.
Verizon knows how to do damage control, they arent that stupid.
There will be a new line up of phones for 2014.
I dont know about you guys, coming from a 2 year old galaxy nexus, I sure as hell could not wait till 2014 for a new phone and This g2 will def last 2 years easily as long as no hardware malfunctions occur..

Except they are not identical. They are similar. :silly:
Isn't the rumor that some of the price drops are occurring because of the upcoming release of the White Version of the G2? At least for Verizon.
Just my two cents but it could be that LG is trying to push more units out and lure people with its price point. LG doesn't have a reputation like Samsung and Apple. They have invested a lot of money in advertising the G2 and I really think they are just trying to get peoples hands on this device. I fell in love with the G2 this way and I initially had the intentions of going sg4.
This phone is amazing and so many times of thought about trading it for a note 3 and said no because of litteraly everything about it. When I want to trade nothing gets in my way. The more people they can get the g2 in peoples hands the better chance lg might not ditch the phone and support it.

Best phone I've owned hands down - I've had many many phones, been a pretty big power user, had iPhones, Palms (Bold and Pre), and now all androids from HTCs, Samsungs, to now LG, Loved the S3, Note 2, and was ok with the S4, but thing thing is the best I've had by far and away out of any of them. I gave up on the S4 mainly due to the locked bootloader and the inability to run AOSP roms on it and may never be able to after the OTAs.
I am so glad I got this phone. You'll love it.
psst.

True they are similar and unless your just have to have a Nexus device the G2 for the masses is better than the N5.
Warning: included is a long history of my Android and parts of my development career which when read lends insight into how I feel.. But feel free to skip to the last few paragraphs. I've frequented XDA since I got my OG DROID and still don't have ten posts... Loser.. Lol.. Well, you've been warned so don't give me a top long I'm too lazy to read. Just skip it, or read the first paragraph or so and skip to the end.. Or read it all. I need more posts so I can start contributing to the dev section and figured I'd actually write what I felt instead of a "lol" just to increase my count.
The Nexus 5 surely doesn't get better battery life ^_^ So much for Google's claims of Kit Kat improving battery life by 20%. I started with the OG DROID and was a common visitor here (although I was to new to post anything useful. I came from being a veteran C/C++ Windows developer. I drove my programmers crazy cause they were all taught MFC - I would never write anything that included the MFC libraries and instead used the Windows Template Libraries. For some reason using templates was Greek to most of them. Never was officially released I don't think but as a MCP I had access to a lot of tools that the Microsoft team actually used themselves. It used templates instead of classes and made building UI easier with a tiny footprint (no larger than just using API) compared to the footprint MFC brought in.
Eventually I just switched to Visual Basic so my programmers could work and maintain the UI and I'd write all the non UI mess using C/C++ (sometimes Java) as distributed objects so that they could just use these lightweight interfaces inside of VB (or whatever language they wanted to use...as long as they could import them in from .dlls or the occasional .exe server. This eventually progressed to where I was used to just create distributed classes/interfaces. For example, the method used for shipping using the FedEx PowerShip Plus servers was to the manually feed in shipping data and the process wasn't integrated. I was working where we shipped music merchandising (musictoday.com). There was a better way. It took forever as FedEx has a huge manual of shipping codes. Wrote up interfaces and implemented. Used that model so that others could import in my implemented version and override whatever functions they needed (this was before VB caught up and allowed this sort of behavior in classes, before then just interfaces. FedEx eventually bought out this component and I got nothing since all my work belonged to them. Also created a ticketing system for several bands connected to a thermal printer to print them. Dave Matthews was the main one using it as our company (Redlight which owned musictoday and Starr Hill.. Owned by Coren Capshaw) was their managers. Their main rehearsal studio at home was adjacent to the gym there where I worked out every day for hours (pissing our CTO off, but i ran the show in the development department and he knew it). Ended up hanging out with him a few times at Boars Head Inn and a few others (too bad I hated his music.. Told him I couldn't stand it and he just laughed). Developed the Friends of Live fansite and I guess I was their first fan club member even though I never signed up (another band I didn't care for much.. I like rock but).. Realized later after I kept receiving VIP passes to their shows (all access backstag, etc.. Which i gave away btw to family) thst I was there first fan because I designed the database for the fan site as well (yeah, was forced to play way too many roles there) and had used my information while testing it out and when I switched it over from the dev database to the live one, I forgot that I had also entered my info in that one as well while creating tthe tables.. Lol
Sorry for the long post about some of my history, but when the OG DROID came out which was my first, my Windows development ceased and I decided to learn Android. Quickly found it was built on a Linux kernel and it took off quickly from there. I even wrote a lot of inline assembly inside some of the IIS extensions I wrote thst queried our database as it had to be fast enough to handle all the traffic querying at the time. I can brag our search routines were fast.. (specifically the routine for searching for concerts based on artist, venue, etc..). I had SQL procedures that parsed the actual query string that the user entered. Which had to be smart enough to detect wildly misspelled names and such.. It was hundreds of lines long). The IIS extension was the bridge and as anyone who's used IIS (well back then) knows, you couldn't write extensions that were heavy.. Or else you'd slow everything down. For making the actual SQL connections, queries, and retuning results, I used the lightest method I could find.. raw SQL with a lot of inline assembly. All that was written just to say I want to kill someone everytime I loolnat small machine code. I can maybe change a color somewhere or if lucky enable paid features on free apps if I'm able by grace of God to find where the correct switch is. And don't get me started other ****... It's like trying to write with your opposite writing hand while driving in a foreign country where they drive on the other side of the road and keep the quality of each at optimum levels. RGB colors for examle are not FFAA66..no..you have to reverse it.
Anybody downloading any mods here which involve reverse engineering and editing small should not take what they get for granted and be very appreciative to the developer. I've followed the scene since the beginning (HarvesterX) and helped out a little (such as on the old Avalon theme for OG DROID which ended up requiring more editing then we were capable of.). While I had my PC, I built a few of my own ROMs (gingerbread.. That's how long I've been without one and when I need to root a phone I use the work computer). Then in progressed to helping debug some applications for some awesome developers. Apps I'm sure the majority of anyone rooted and on here uses as well as ones who those who like to mod use. I don't develop em just debug and troubleshoot and test so I won't give names or credit for any of it. The point is to show that it does take time and lots of work and the guys/gals here are fantastic. If they are doing this professionally, they would be making between $44,000-$110000 a year from it depending on location and level of knowledge. To do this for free means thst you.. Thst we need to donate back by either donating to the develops themselves, or donate to a charity, or just give something of yourself.
Next phone was the Galaxy Nexus. Love or hate it.. It was a great phone when first released and the development was top grade. I went through a rough time in my life during these years and stayed out of actively developing anything or helping (I did throw out a little weather mod that showed the weather as an icon in the notification bar. Soon after I shared it on another site I saw it pop up on a very popular ROM. Didn't irk me.. I took it as a compliment I guess. I wasn't looking for credit. Was just to give back to some friends. Did some theme work for friends as well nothing big
When the GNex eventually died I was sad but happy a the same time. Loved the design of the phone and it could have still been good as a music server or something. USB Flex died on me and by the time the replacement flex arrived in the mail in and gave in and bought the G2 hesitantly. I had horrible past experiences with my baby mommas (ex thank the heavens) LG Ally. Everytime I has to use that phone I wanted to throw it against the wall. It wasn't BAD except crippled as LG decided to skimp on memory. If it had had the same as the OG DROID it would have been much better. I was able to root it and throw on the only custom kernel I could find and thst helped a little.. But the display was grainy and the only positives it had was having Stock Android on it. I knew I didn't want a Samsung device as their ethics have been questionable and frankly I had tried a Motorola (used several actually but only owned the one), a Samsung (again, used lots of em but owned one..), and wanted to see what HTC, Sony, and LG had to offer. Well Sony wasnt gonna happen as I'm not leaving VZW while I'm rocking their unlimited at $50 a month and getting 30-40Mbs downloads at home (can't wait til Advanced is turned on). T-Mobile isn't an option period where I live.. It's no contest). So it was between the One and the G2. I knew about each and the specs (want aware though of all the under the hood specs thst LG didn't advertise a lot, such as their advances in display technology and GRAM). The One is a wonderful piece of hardware and the sound and screen, and build quality screamed at me. If it was one of the unlockable Ones or a Dev Edition I possibly may has missed on the G2. When I saw the G2 I already read about how it was great but..I can't go on reviews.. They are biased as hell and I can't count how many times I've found completely false statements splattered all over a device's review. First impression was thst.. Damn this looks beautiful. Hadn't turned the screen on yet. Reviews said thst it was plastic, felt cheap, and fingerprint magnet. Hmm. Looked more like a high quality poly-carbonate material and it was solid. I was my hands at least two or three times a day.. As well as clean my phone once every day or two. Found the power button and wow. The screen felt like silk. That's all I needed to see. I had already known that dev support would be there for it and I was afraid if I waited then an OTA would come around blocking the loki exploit. Grabbed it at off contract price and realized.. "NO BEZELS!".. I smoke.. (switched to vaporizers though but back to cigarettes while looking for a really good vape.. One I had was crap..). Well thise who smoke I'm sure have had ashes end up inside the bezel and the screen and used tweezers or similar to remove if blowing didn't help... Lol ok yeah I love the phone. I can't say anything bad actually.. Well having bezels is great but also a little irritating at times (rarely but..). If you try to type or drag an icon or tap a link and you have a finger eight on the edge it can cause problems. Took me a while before I realized why my notification bar kept being pulled halfway down..
This huge post leads to the question at hand. Is the price cut good? I like having the G2 as a hidden gem. Had it at work yesterday because I had inadvertently formatted ALL of my data partitition (thanks TWRP! on one side you have format data and a big Warning.. So I go to advanced section and check the box there as I came from clockwork and that seemed the thing to do.. They had a huge Warning on the other button..). Well while downloading the latest CyanogenMod nightly and gapps (just to get something on the phone.. Looking for a ROM I like atm.. Like the CyanogenMod nightlies but calls drop often). The links to all the roms I wanted to try were all leading to dead ends yesterday.. Haven't tried today though. I was using the floor computer and had logged in as admin. During the time I was waiting for the downloads to finish three customers had came in (I sale and install wireless Internet, and one of the few technicians) migrated to see what I was doing. Then I started getting questions like "where are the buttons?" as I had it laying on its back. I had questions of if they could test it out and if it was for sale.. I laughed and said no its my personal one but they are welcome to play with it when I get an operating system back on it. They watched as I opened a command prompt up and pushed the files over and watched the whole recovery process (these are regular people who had no clue any of this was possible). After signing into CyanogenMod and Android I handed it over to the wolves. All three asked me how much and where they could get one (one lady asked me which carrier mine was running one.. Guess she missed all the Verizon branding.. Lol. I told them they could pick up one for AT&T or Verizon (stopped thwre because where I live those are the only viable options for a radius of 40-50 miles.. And a reason our propriety wireless Internet sells so easily.)
I don't know or inside them on the G2 or Android itself but as everyone here knows (and if you don't you will now), stores are going to push devices from the top manufacturers and among those, the devices that they can also sell you accessories for. That mean Apple and Samsung (and the DROID line). LG is known for appliances. And there isn't the plethora of accessories the salesman can tack on. If this phone was pushed the same as the Note 3 or the 5s the price would not be dropping as fast. LG has a history of rapidly dropping it's prices on phones because of this very reason. They can't muscle the store to push their merchandise so they have to resort to drastically cutting costs to recoup on the capital invested.
LG knows they have a hit on their hands as I've never seen as many commercials for any LG product as often as I'm seeing the various G2 comments. The problem is, the commercials aren't really memorable. OK.. Look at Nexus 5 sales versus G2 sales. The Nexus 5 is shipping out of inventory at Google almost as fast as they enter. Google knows how to market. They know the target audience for the Nexus 5 (and since the Nexus 7, the name has became a lot more mainstream). They never had to show one commercial. This leaves me torn. If the G2 had shipped with stock Android and updates straight from Google then it would have sold as fast if not faster then the Nexus 5. The best part is, it's just as easy to unlock (*cough* bypass) the bootloader on the G2 as it is for the Nexus 5. N5 has the advantage in updates.. Yeah we have 4.3 and will have 4.4 but until LG releases updated libraries for the G2, the 4.3 and 4.4 bulds will be a mix and mash of the new thst works mixed with older lib files. Same problem on the OG DROID, yes that was a HUGE hit.
It's not like LG isn't gaining recognition as they've developed all the latest Nexi.. Problem is thlse aren't sold as LG Nexus. In my opinion LG has been the most innovative this round of relaases. Yes they deserve more, but it's not a "Ah good job here's a good star" world. There are bullies on the playground and we all know the two bullies I'm talking about. LG has to keep fighting back and winning. They need to see the G2 as an astounding success (though I'm sure it will be passed on for having 1GB less RAM.. Which might be relevant by the next time upgrades roll around but for now... On Samsung stuff I get it as TouchWiz used 1GB of it..) instead of just a failed device. I recommend this phone to everyone. I show it to them and they say *I love it but can't afford it*.. Well its like $79 or cheaper.. How much cheaper do you want? I paid $549 for mine off contract. Hopefully by the time they jeep unlimited away I'll live where T-Mobile is solid or they'll expand here.

Hi,
Yes..., this...
XDA app crashes... Don't quote this post please
Have to disagree about the statement above (the g2 is identical to the n5) I have both and the g2 is much better than the n5 -front facing camera 2.1mp =back camera 13mp both better, sound quality much better, battery life is much better, not charged the g2 for three days and its at 13% and the design and quality on the g2 is, well its designed !whereas the n5 looks functional in comparison but then you are paying more for the g2, anyhow enjoy your phones, if you put the phones together and compare them the g2 just looks better, I think this phone is the best on the market right now
but that's just my thoughts.

[Q] Why is the G3 so cheap?

Using a Droid incredible these days, and i swear i'd throw it off a cliff if i had another phone...
Looking to upgrade, and I notice that while the Note 3 and One M8, the other devices I'm cross-shopping, go on sale to <$1 and return to a higher price, the G3 is perma-stuck below $1. Is it cause no one buys it? Or major problems? cause the specs are top notch, so in theory it should cost more...
Thanks!

No idea why it's perma-discounted so low but all have their pros and cons. If you look at reviews most are happy with it. The most common complaints being the 4k screens impact on battery life (3.5-4 hours screen on time) and some ui lag in stock applications (messenger, settings, launcher). Overall I wouldn't trade it for anything else out there, but that is due to the fact that the community has bypassed the bootloader allowing for custom roms. If I had to keep the stock lg software or if I was not the type to modify my phone, my choice would probably be the M8. M8 has mediocre camera and display, but much better software optimization. Personally I won't even consider Samsung, but maybe that'll change if they ditch touchwiz like rumored.

In my opinion... LG wants more market share so they priced the phone low and made a lot of them. HTC and Samsung are bigger players in the market and LG wants to make it's mark. G3 owners are getting a good phone and a good deal. That's not to say the others aren't good as well, but for the price - the value and quality is there on the G3. No major defects, problems, or anything like that.
I guess you can always take a test drive and compare - depending on your seller's policies. For ex: I bought an S5 on Amazon and hated it sooo much, but their policy is one free exchange within a 2 week period so I grabbed a G3 instead and couldn't be happier with that choice. It may be a pain but a test drive can keep you from getting stuck with a phone you hate.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess its the usual loss leader marketing scheme, and its working pretty well. I suppose i should be glad that the M8 and the N3 have increased in price. both of those require lots of hoop-jumping to get BL-unlocks [or not in the N3's case], while its so easy with the G3.
So i just picked up my G3 from Amazon this weekend for a penny+tax, $44.01 including shipping. Already owned the G2 which was perfectly but I sat on my upgrade for about 6 months and finally took the plunge... The few sales/reps I've asked about the price being so low basically told me that the G3 hasn't been marketed very well and non power users are sucked into the Crapple/Junksung riptide. So far its great, haven't been able to root yet due to 12B stump being patched, IOroot adb issues, and towelroot not working. M8 would definitely be my second choice but camera and display quality are very important. No better time than now to before price changes @sidewinder_x5

oh believe me, it's coming soon :good: and 12B patch? cant you downgrade to 10B, root, bump, then flash a custom 12B rom? sounds easier than trying to root straight at 12B millions of ways.
Speaking of amazon, what kinda fees did you have to pay? upgrade fee, activation fee, etc.

oh believe me, it's coming soon :good: and 12B patch? cant you downgrade to 10B, root, bump, then flash a custom 12B rom? sounds easier than trying to root straight at 12B millions of ways.
Speaking of amazon, what kinda fees did you have to pay? upgrade fee, activation fee, etc.

Im about to attempt the 10B downgrade right now actually-just fired up the PC! I'm a little hesitant due to reading about bricks but I can't take not crackflashing a day longer! Haha And as far as Amazon goes it was a penny for the phone and $40.00 exactly in taxes. That's all and it was delivered in 2 days.
Its easy to do. Almost impossible to mess it up. Ive had mine since around Christmas, and i love it. then again, Im coming from an S4. LOL.
After years of using Samsung, I went from a Note 3 to a G2 which I was very happy with. I sold my G2 for $280 back in October and bought the G3 for $300 (brand new) from a local guy who went back to Iphone. G3 is my favorite phone I've had so far.

the G2/G3 are amazing phones. i looked at getting a G2 before i arrived in the US, but the price was a bit much. glad there are places where i can get the G3 for close to nothing :good:
I enjoy my g3. And with the impending official lollipop update our development will become that much more awesome.
I was hesitant to go back to flashing roms myself. But since I have no need for softcard I said f it. Best decision ever. Basically I have a 5.5'' nexus 6 with removable battery and expandable memory lol.
Who's excited for the VR for g3? Who thinks lg will be nice enough to give these out like they did the free spare battery lol

Verizon Forums - self proclaimed "Sony insider" implies no Lollipop....ever

https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/903550
It starts as a minor foodfight but ends up providing some interesting info. A poster named "momma23dogs" said Sony has completely pulled out of the U.S. market and apparently has stopped development on all phones currently released in said market. They also stated that Verizon considers the last update Sony provided them as buggy and shelved it.
Another poster named "Tidbits", claiming to be a former Sony firmware writer with contacts on the inside essentially confirms the buggy update story and blames Sony entirely. Further into the thread there is an interesting conversation about the relationship between manufacturer's and carriers. It was news to me anyway...
[Edit: spelling]
Interesting read, this closely matches the story that a manager of a corporate Verizon store told the dev, which he told me a few months back. Verizon and Sony are at odds with each other because of the noncompliance going on with the updates.
There will be NO Android 5.1.1 or 6.0 on Z3v ? Sad
一入电信深似海,从此手机不好买
I believe the Z3v is a "dead" phone in the sense it has seen it's best days. It is probably well past the pinnacle of it's xda life. Sony and Verizon have abandoned it. The next wave of new and more powerful phones are upon us and everyone is beginning to move on. This is similar to my old Galaxy Nexus. It was the darling of the development crowd until new phones started being released and the Devs began to focus on them. Development dried up almost overnight, except for a couple of diehards who actually liked the phone.
This is just the normal life span of a smartphone today. We can blame the way carriers have trained us to want a new phone every two years. The companies and carriers don't want to spend money or effort on something that has already been sold, they would rather get us to buy something new and to that end they churn out better and better phones. That is, unfortunately the nature of the business.
After 18 months to 2 years the batteries are beginning to fail. Now most are sealed in the unit forcing the user to take the phone apart or take it to a store so they can take it apart to put in a most likely two year old replacement battery because both phones and batteries are generally manufactured in one or two productions runs and that is it...then everyone begins tooling up to make the latest and greatest next generation of phones.
...it is a shame really, I like the Z3v.
I like the z3V too, and just bought a second one for my drawer for when my first one kicks it.
I have come to realize how technology is metered out for consumerism. But I refuse to succumb to their rules on needing to keep updated. That's the Crapple approach to business, and I don't like it. Google is following Crapple. I see something I like and I stick with it until I am ready to move on.
I'm almost convinced about moving on back to the Galaxy because of the newly announced S7. 3000+ mah, expandable storage, and water resistance in a fully supported phone. Plus it has wireless charging and a great camera.
What's holding me back? I truly desire the Xperia UI and the Sony brand that supports its ecosystem. I have the PlayStation consoles that are interconnected with my devices, Bluetooth accessories that are fully compatible with the Sony Mobile device because they are accessories from Sony, and the fine craftsmanship that I know of a hardware that's built to last. I'm not ready to give up on my phone, but just to complain to complain, it is irritating how outdated my camera is when compared to the latest and greatest, and I feel like SD801 can only do so much now to keep up with more and more of the newest softwares that's coming out nearly on a daily basis.
When I saw one of the older Xperia phones I liked the looks, I said if the Red Check Mark ever got one I would get it, who would have known it would turn out like this? I will tell you how to save yourself from making a wrong decision next time, if I choose a phone don't get it I am batting 1000 right now on picking stepchild phones. lol
Except for the camera overheating and the USB door failure (of course locked bootloader) it is a great phone. Far less restarts (almost zero) than the old phones, well except the Moto Droid 1 (only got a restart if overclocked to far) that I used Bugless Beast ROM on.
Nothing out, floats my boat, a Kickstarter (Nexbit Robin) phone had my eye but after the first reviews don't think it would be much better than what the Xperia is now.
Forgot to add any new phone has to have MHL 2.0 or higher (which it seems Sony is the only one sticking with that), gotten addicted to watching streaming video content over the TV, yes I know Miracast, and DNLA will do the same, which SOny has all three.
Ahhhh. Moto's original Droid... Those were the days. Rummaged through some of my old hard drives and found all the old stuff I used to load up; Chevy's overclocking kernels, Ultimate Droid releases. Still have 4 of those phones, 2 in NIB condition.

Geeeez, think my OG Droid still has CM7 w/ a ChevyNo1 kernel on it. Haven't booted it in a while, was using it with the dock as a desk clock for the longest time
The Z3v would be a killer phone with an unlocked bootloader. My old Galaxy Nexus spoiled me with it's accessibility with ROMs, kernels and the such. I picked the Z3v based on Sony's take on Android and it's amazing battery life. As long as it is rooted I can live with it but the lack of updating to the latest ROM is a little frustrating.

Mine has Bugles Beast with P3Droid 1.2ghz low voltage kernel, was beta testing one of the first Bugless Beast ROMs when I discovered the Dalvik cache 3 time wipe before flashing new ROM concept which I shared with the then new community.
Used it when the Z3v wouldn't work this summer for video, Z3v camera would shut down after 4 minutes of recording the Droid would record all day no problem.
Unlocked bootloader and custom ROMs is what Android is all about.
Linux support the free.
I used Bugless Beast back when Peter Alfonso was coding ROMs for the GNex. He's pretty good, it lived up to it's name for sure.

Yeah he (Peter) was good at the Java coding, what ever happened to him, did he get a job with Motorola? Lost track of him once I left the Droid.
In the last post he made on the GNex forums he said he got a job, I'm not sure who with, and he was writing code for them. That is why he stopped working on the GNex ROM. Things just got too busy and something had to give.

He was going to help me out on learning ROM development, I had the SDK environment all setup and working, played around with it for a few weeks and was going to start getting into it heavy, then the frigging computer I had it set up on crapped out, the HD went south, lost all the data could not retrieve anything, shortly after that I had and accident and just never got back into it, at the time I had 4 Coms up and running now I just have a laptop and lost desire to do anything again.
I know he told me he was getting a job and was going to stop.
Well the Z3 and Z2 are getting Marshmallow now, sucks. Advanced Calling 2.0 with WiFi calling would be nice too.

Developer Needed For The LG Stylo 3 Plus

The device is VERY affordable for the price of $49.99.. with a number port or new line of service..
Some Dealers are even giving it away free with a new line of service.
But.. this device overall draws No Interest even though you get some decent features for a decent price.
Maybe it's because there is no way to revert it back to stock for the foreseeable future for warranty issues or upgrades.. maybe it's having to look at that Warning message everytime you boot up once you unlock the bootloader.. I don't know.
But.. for $49.99 who cares? The Stylo 3+ will do rooted stock with Xposed and some modules.
The Moto E4 / G5s lines along with Xiaomi seem to be your best bet for sub $200.00 devices with a plethora of support.
Thanks For Reading :good:
This phone isn't $50. It's over $200. I agree, though. We do need a dev who can work on Lineage. I'm actually fine with the stock ROM for now.

But.. with MetroPCS you can port over a number from another carrier.. and Yes.. you can get the LG Stylo 3 Plus for just $49.99.. plus 1 Month's service and Tax based on the retail price.. ( If applicable in your state ) so.. if you paid over $200.00.. well I don't know what to say..

You've never had T-Mobile postpaid. T-Mobile has price discrimination. So, $9/month. or $220 total
Really?

I Sorry You Were Not Informed Of My Past Purchases....
But... Let me direct your attention to the attached picture below...
You See.... I HAVE HAD T-MOBILE POSTPAID... again, sorry no one informed you of that BEFORE you presumed to know my past.
And... Please.. correct me if I'm wrong.. but I do believe the specifications of the T-Mobile variant and the MetroPCS variant are EXACTLY the same.. again I may be off a spec or two..
Bottom line is.. basically the same device.. Using The Same Towers and one cost $225.00 and the other $49.99.
Frankly, I don't care if my bill is paid 30 days prior of 40 days post...... as long as it's paid.
So.. I'll just keep my MetroPCS variant and use the $170.00 or so savings on other things.
Sorry off subject.
Has anyone successfully flash factory firmware in case of soft brick? For warrenty issues any sucees in custom recovery then bootloader lock in cause one would like to avoid warrenty by unlocking boot loader?
I purchased as second phone. Willing to develop if there is a way to relock bootloader, if there is such a thing. I haven't had time for development since the LG V10

Hello.. And Welcome To The Party..
Unfortunately, there is no "Stock Factory Firmware" ( a.k.a. KDZ in LG lingo..) I just called LG on this matter yesterday.. and inquired out of curiosity as to when it might be released.. No E.T.A. whatsoever.
Just for kicks.. I inquired about the security patch still being of the April variety.. again, no answer as to when that will be updated as well..
But when it comes to the security patch.. it really does not matter when you unlock your boot loader.. that action alone Opens The Door... to Malware and any other violation you can think of when it comes to Jacking You Up.
That's why companies frown upon having a boot loader with the ability to be unlocked.. they don't want you coming back to them crying with a compromised or bricked device.
Personally, I like the way Motorola / Lenovo does it... and if I ran a company it's certainly the way that I would do it.. Keep it stock, and we have you covered.. or, wave your warranty and they give you the code to unlock your boot loader.. Then You Are On Your Own.. and they have a record of you ASKING to wave your warranty.. and that gives them the right to Refuse fixing your goof ups.
I understand we need to start emailing LG so that they released the firmware we didn't was the LG K10 and now every variant of it has been rooted has TWRP and all firmwares are available.
What about using something like LG up or uppercut to extract the firmware from my stock LG Stylo 3 plus?
I don't have the time two develop, or full knowledge on what is needed to be done for LG MP450.
I'm debating on going back to Metro and just picking up the Stylo 2 plus considering developers are already working on it. Resurrection and lineage are released for Stylo 2. Also there are already released for the LG K-10 not sure what variant you're using I use MetroPCS so mine would be the ms428.
I don't really see any hardware specs that are better on the Stylo 3 than the Stylo 2 other than the internal memory but my goal is to use my 128 GB SDXC card. I can partition some of it to be adaptable another partition to be storage (FAT32) and two other partitions for link2sd and Swapper (EXT4) and lastly swap.
Stylo 3+ Not For You ?

LG will release the firmware at some point... Actually, the stock firmware runs just fine.. I have not seen any glitches.. even when I had 100% of LG's setup installed. I'm down to about 30% factory and 70% personal and I'm getting 12+ hours of S.O.T. ( I posted some pics in another thread ) I don't think LG is in a rush.. there is nothing terribly wrong.. "If It Ain't Broke...."
If it's a bunch of ROM's you are looking for... you picked the wrong phone. by the time there is a choice of ROM's there will be a whole new choice of phones to choose from..
The Moto G5s Plus comes to mind.. if you look at the INCREDIBLE support the G5 Plus has ( I owned one but the 5.2 inch screen was just a little too small for me ) Just wait until the G5s Plus with it's 5000 maH battery and 5.5 inch screen and $129.00 price has a few months under it's belt.. it will be "The" bang for the buck device to own if you enjoy Root & ROM's..
Guys is this device has a front flash ?
techboy11 said:
I'm not quite sure what you're asking mate? I don't believe this phone has a front flash for the camera, but I just got mine yesterday so I haven't tried it yet.
---------- Post added at 08:10 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:00 AM ----------
So, let me start off by saying, I'm a hobbyist developer myself. Haven't posted a lot (if at all, to my closest friends) things that I've done for the many Android phones I've owned in the past. I just happen to grab this interesting device yesterday in Canada. Looking at this thread in particular, I don't believe this would be a form of motivation for me to start developing anything for this phone publicly, whether it be for the requested Metro PCS "cheaper" model, or what have you.
The OP seems to suggest that most developers can't afford phones, which I personally find offensive, as I work my butt off to go through as many phones as I do/have. Sure, I've seen a few, which I find them to be genuine and supportive of their work, I've never minded supporting.
This thread also feels like most "ETA??" threads that I've seen for even more popular phones I've had, such as my beloved recent Nexus 6P.
All in all, this is just my two cents. I'll keep following and lurking around to see if someone decides to work out something for the Stylo. I've never owned the Stylo variant of LG phones before, and so far I love it as just stock, which is a very new (and good) feeling for me.
~Cheers

nvm
just got this phone today so if any devs ever pick up please contact me if you need testers.
No I'm actually happy with the phone I don't need a bunch of ROMs. I'm comfortable with unlocking the bootloader and flashing stock. My only concern was through MetroPCS they have the phone replacement program if something happens to your phone you pay the deductible and get a new one. I know that unlocking the bootloader blow void the warranty not sure how that works with paying the $6 a month in case the phone is lost or stolen.
I would actually like to start developing on my own again. Although I've been out of the game for a few years I know I can get back into it fairly easily. Because of my circumstances I am going to stick with the LG Stylo 3 plus from Metro PCS. As of now I disable any OTA updates I have yet to unlock Bootloader install custom recovery and root phone.
I am paying for the $6 a month extra to replace phone if lost or stolen. Or if during the process of development I broke it and I can say it was lost or stolen. I do like the phone. Thank you so much for being around hopefully within the next day or two I can grab my sisters laptop and install custom recovery, root, ROM is available. And go from there
stock

What happened to XDA..?

This community is so dead and I can't help but wonder what has happened? Just a few years ago my daily was an LG V30+ and the XDA community was so active and friendly. Almost everyday there was a new Magisk Mod to flash and more ROMs than you could ever try. I still have that phone and it still works great too. Is it the lack of people rooting their phones these days or the fact that manufactures aren't so friendly to modders now? As of me writing this my last question I posted has 143 views and not a single reply. That is ridiculous. I mean the worst part to me is that after 2 years the V60 doesn't even have a 100% stable GCAM apk.
I'm guessing because lg quit making phones
Just my 2 cents but BL locking has had a dramatic effect on the community. If you look at the phones that are easily BL unlocked there's activity otherwise very little. I also agree that LG getting out of the phone business certainly killed the LG boards.
So I have finally just re-rooted my H931 converted US998 LG V30 this week, and I still love this phone. I tried One+, Samsung and have even gone to the dark side (iPhone 13 mini) but cannot shake my attraction to this phone. It is still a decent contender IMHO, and has features long gone from newer phones. I love the display , size and slim nature of this phone.
I have it on Android 9, rooted and TWRP so I fell great about this.
I will say that the the best and only way to root this phone is topjohnwu and magisk patched .bin process. All of the other methods failed for me.
