Yeah so I got a 136mb update notification today on my device. I unlocked my bootloader via the method in the "WTF.." thread; restored a sprint backup over the US998 firmware to get my 4G working again since I am on sprint. I'm afraid the update may apply while I'm asleep or if I reboot the phone. Under the update settings on Sprint the ability to disable checking for updates is not an option.

Would freezing "FOTA update" take off this? Looked up it up on titanium and froze that.

Sounds right.
Disable automatic updates in developer options. I don't believe the update would work without stock recovery tho.(confirmed I tried to reboot, it failed update. I am on US998 rom just swapped US998 build.prop with Sprint build.prop) you might be able to flash from recovery not sure tho.
I was curious so I pulled the update.zip from /cache here it is https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OvV-OI-mX9qVUKOtaAe9IBxplW2Q4UHN/view?usp=drivesdk I wouldn't install it. Every update I recieved from Sprint seemed to lock the phone down even more. It does seem to have a modem update..

I just downloaded a OTA update on my S4, which I hoped was 4.4.4, but it looks like it is still Android 4.4.2. During the update, it says it was also updating KNOX, does anyone know what this update is, I was hoping it was the 4.4.4 upgrade. It did update KNOX to 2.0, so hopefully I can move my work stuff into KNOX now, and not have my basic phone subject to my work's locking policy.
The build number is KOT49H.I545VRUFNG6.

Download Titanium Backup and try to freeze SDM, you might have to purchase Titanium Backup Pro to freeze apps.
When it asks just click , No Thanks.. Update won't show again till you manually look for an update in settings.
I see the method for rooting the G6 involves the roll back to G5 and flashing G6. I've already towel rooted G5, will accepting the G6 OTA remove root for me because of the knox update? IOW if I want the LAG, is it better to flash G6 via odin, or can I just accept the OTA?
Thanks for your time!

You will lose root if you flash NG6 on Odin or Accept the OTA update. The only way to keep root is to follow that flash back method if you want the update and keep root. My advice is not to updated at all. The NG6 update has issues with random reboots.

I would also advise not taking the NG6 update. I did and I went back to NC5. The random reboots seem to be unfixable and there really wasn't anything new and exciting with NG6, unless you need Knox 2.0 for some crazy reason! STAY WITH NC5!!!

Say what? Mine is prompting me to install the update. It only gives me 2 choices "Install now" and "Install later", and if I choose later, it prompts me to pick a time for it to install. There is also a checkbox that says "Install automatically", which I am leaving unchecked. So, I think it's going to prompt me every day from now on, unless I root and then freeze something.

It will just keep bugging you with the prompt everyday unless you root and freeze the apps.
With my wife's phone I went in to settings, application manager scrolled over to all & found SDM app & forced stopped it. Notification is now gone.
She IS NOT rooted.
I also have it auto hibernate using greenify so it does not come back.

So is this update buggy for those who were unrooted? Or just for those who were rooted and took the update?
I wonder if we were to unroot, take the update, then follow the root instructions if many of the problems go away?

My wife's S4 is totally stock and she's had zero problems with the update. Took it earlier today.
After playing around with the update for a while, it looks like we have finally lost write access to the SD card like we were supposed to since the first Kit Kat update. I cannot write to the SD card (unrooted) with any file explorer, and my SMS backup app fails at writing to the SD card.

I read your post..updated for the heck of it..FDR'd it...random rebooted after a a few minutes.
Its been 2 days so far, and the thing reboots 3-4 times a day.
I noticed that sometimes before it reboots, I'll unlock it, and it wont even register my security swipe..Then it reboots..Sometimes, if it does let me in, tapping on an icon does nothing...then it reboots...Other times, like this morning, it was just sitting on the end table, and it rebooted. Boy, you weren't kidding about the reboots.
BTW..All stock.
Here's what I did, worked.
I used the towel root method posted here (and other places I'm sure):
Ok...Forum won't let me post a link because I'm new. So Google "Root Verizon Galaxy S4 SCH-I545 on I545VRUFNG6 Firmware" and it will be the top choice from droid views.
Read the comments section too I posted the issue I was having then reinstalled super SU, flashed the NG6 Kernal and I've been good to go.
Hope it works out for you, I'm on NG6 with root, no errors, no reboots.
Hi,
I am on stock rom, not rooted but I have still not received the update for 4.4.4. I am sim-unlocked so i don't know if that has anything to do with it. Even when i try to manually search for the update through the settings, it says it can't find the update.
Appreciate any help!

Depending on how you disabled them you might not even be able to flash the ota. You have to have untouched /system and stock recovery in order to take the ota.

Only disabled them through Settings->Apps. Didn't tinker with anything in this phone as i did with my previous ones.
If you don't mind setting up the phone again, you can RUU (will wipe user data).
Similarly, sometimes folks have gotten the OTA to kick in after doing a factory reset.
Neither of these are ideal I know. But it is what it is.

You may still recieve notification, but the update will fail, since your phone's files have been changed.
Edit. But if you're thinking you're safe from losing root. I would recommend you disable ota.
No, you will have to reinstall stock recovery, restore stock programs you removed, then unroot. It should take it then. I'm sure someone will post a flashable update.
I haven't seen anything posted yet, but noticed that an update for the US997 was added yesterday (Nov 8) on lg-firmwares. I tried to see if I could get the update through LG Bridge, but it says I'm on the current version (15a). The update is still 7.X, and listed at 2.71G.
Has anyone successfully installed the update? If so, what is included in the update? TIA!
I just went to the LG Firmwares page https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-us997-firmwares/#firmwaresList and am downloading the 16a kdz. I'll flash it once it's downloaded. I'll reinstall twrp and root then I'll check out any differences.
Edit: The install went a little rough. I thought I wasn't going to be able to get twrp installed but I got it. Rerooted and all is well. It seems snappier. The camera seems faster too. But it's largely the same.

Updated security patch? I still couldn't update through LG Bridge, but will try again in a few days. OTAs haven't worked for me at all.

Yes.
Back up all your stuff first. You can use tibu or LG back up tool.
You'll have to reinstall twrp and reroot as well.
You should retain your unlocked bootloader.

It should but I'm not 100% sure as I have never used it. I use tibu.
But if you have twrp you can back up data that way too.

The person isn't rooted so neither Titanium or TWRP will be of any use.
You can use ADB and use the backup command.
That will get you about as close as you can get. unfortunately, if a device isn't rooted, backup kind of sucks.
Finally got around to updating. I used LGUP and Uppercut to flash the kdz. I chose the upgrade option and it did not wipe my data. Can't really tell any difference so I'm not sure what the update was for.

I haven't received an OTA since right after setting up my phone. I got 14a as OTA, but did 15a through LG Bridge and 16a through LGUP.
Surprised I haven't seen any posts. 10.0.40 landed on my phone on Oct 28th. Only change is the October security update.

You need to restore the boot image back to stock. In Magisk Manager, select uninstall and select restore images. Then reboot and try again. Howerver, depending on what method you used to root, it may not be able to restore the factory boot image. In which case you'll need to find it online.
Seems very skippable lol. Certainly not worth the effort of unrooting and rerooting.
Mine was rooted and had .35 on it. This popped up on mine too and I was able to do OTA upgrade. Not full and lose my data. Happy here

Ok, so I have the update waiting to be installed, and I've ran the fixer in the past after a bootloader unlock:
What is the process to update now? Lol do I need to do anything with Magisk?
I think my phone failed to install it, or I just never tried yet cause I'm stupid and still trying to learn all this properly.
