If someone is actually using a custom ROM and want to revert back to MIUI Stock ROM, this thread should be useful. That's the point.

Terribly sorry but at what point did you make that "backup file"? I couldn't fix bootloop without your backup. Just wondering, since it's so large and probably mi5-only maybe you could just give us instructions how to make a working system without using someone else's backup?

I've tried both the methods , but I always end up at this error, please help.
It asks for password and then just reboots into recovery.
There's also a pop up stating "There's internal problem, please contact manufacturer for details"
The above link has the images of the issue.
It would be really helpful if someone can help me boot this rom up. Thank you.

Decrypting internal storage fixes reboots?
Yes it did for me.
First method did it for me, too. I had the bootloop after first reboot and it did the trick, everything is working fine, a bit laggy, but Android P is running smooth on my phone!! I think that's very importat that after first boot you install Play Services as stated in OP and let Google finish its whole Pixel Configuration and updates, then you can try and reboot the phone, if you're hit by the bug, just follow what's in OP.
Few things if you install the GSI and have these issues:
- for Magisk, install version 16.4, just install that after you have set up the phone and stuff, you reboot to twrp and flash it, that's the way it works for me;
- if you have missing network on SIM, just go and configure your apn manually, it'll do the trick;
- for MTP, it's not working for me out of the box, the trick is to enable developers options, go to "Default USB Configuration" or something similar (I have it on italian, so I think that's how it's in English) and select the first one option;
Edit: also there's fingerprint that cannot wake the device, I've read in Telegram groups that some fixes are around for fingerprint, I'll check it out later and report if I find something interesting.
I've suceeded but my FP isn't working, already sent the logcat to the main xda page of GSI

Hi! Great work! Got root and twrp on buc3.
I'm really interested with custom roms, since I got twrp I tried lineageos 17.1 gsi but it goes into bootloop. I tried following various instructions from everywhere in the internet but to no avail.
Recently, I saw ur conversation with secretwolf and that he claimed he was able to flash gsi roms. Since there is not much difference between 290 and 295, I think it's not too far fetched to have a custom rom flashed on the 295.
Do you have any ideas on how to go about it? Thanks!

I have been staying with Samsung roms for now. I may try LineageOS in the future. But, to answer your question, maybe try and clear the data partition
This looks amazing I have a tablet on order and wish to do this.
May I please ask, once magisk is installed is that rooted done, or do I need to activate/configure magisk to root or install a module into it please (only used supersu before so unsure of magisk).
Thank you
Alex

Rooting works for T290. Maybe WETA mod works. WETAmod uses the SystemUI.apk file only.

If you flash the TWRP posted by @Talich52, with reboot unchecked you can install Magisk from TWRP.
Tested on T295XXU3BUC3 ROM (Android 10)
PREREQUISITES:
Bootloader unlocked - search forums.xda-developers for instructions how to do this.
OEM unlock on. In Settings/developer options, OEM Unlock slider should be to the right.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. If prerequisites met: install Android 9 bootloader through ODIN (See attachement: Unzip BL*.zip FIRST)
If on Android 9, go to step 3.
2. Reboot to system
3. Go into download mode.
4. Open ODIN and in the AP slot put TWRP (see attachment below) (Unzip FIRST)
5. Uncheck auto reboot
6. Flash TWRP
7. Press vol dn + pwr keys.
8: When screen goes blank, press vol up + pwr keys.
9. Keep holding down both keys after reboot.
10. Tablet will reboot again.
11. When Samsung logo appears stop pressing pwr key.
12. When bootloader msg appears, release vol up key, quickly press & release pwr key, and quickly press & hold vol up key until in TWRP.
13. Install Fix_vendor_9.0.zip or Fix_vendor_10.0.zip. (Based on installed OS)
See attached files.
14. Clear dalvik/cache if prompted
15. You will then format (NOT WIPE) data. Answer yes to the format prompt
16. Clear dalvik and cache.
17. Reboot back into recovery.
18. Install magisk - see attached
19. Reboot into system. System may reboot again - that's okay
20. Enjoy!!
WETAmod: (For Android 10 ONLY)
I have attached a zip file which will add 3Minit Battery, alternate battery options, 3Minit Clock & Network Meter options to the status bar. There are other options inn the WETAmod package. I have tested all the options and they should all work.. Also includes reboot, download, recovery, shutdown tiles for the taskbar dropdown menu (check buttons). On the audio options page, there are instructions for installing Viper4Android - Please READ CAREFULLY.
The original WETAmod package was developed by @Mentalmuso. He kindly allowed me to post my modified version for the SM-T295 on this forum.
IMPORTANT:
The WETAmod*.zip file HAS TO BE INSTALLED in Magisk Manager.
1. At the bottom of Magisk Manager, you will what looks like a puzzle piece on the right side. Press it. (attachment MM-1.png)
2. At the top of the Modules page, press 'Install from Storage'
3. Find & select the WETAmod_T295_1.zip on your tablet's storage.
4. Installation info will be displayed during install.
5. Reboot
6. In the Apps Drawer, launch the WETAmod app. You can browse the options from the menu
NOTE:
If the 3MinitBatterySettings is not downloading the battery styles, reinstall the 3MinitBatterySettings.apk. You can extract it from the WETAmod zip file.

Havoc OS 3.8 for Xiaomi Redmi 8A (Olivelite)

Hi all,
please find attached the Havoc OS 3.8 custom ROM, Olivelite version, and Magisk 20.4 which you will need for installation also.
I am neither the creator of this ROM or anyhow involved with the team, nor do I take any responsibility for everything which might go wrong during installation.
How I got it to work:
1. Unlock your boot loader (you will find appropriate instructions here in the forum and elsewhere on the web, also on YouTube).
2. Ensure that you have the XiaoMi Flash tool and the latest stock rom available, to be able to recover you phone when you encounter issues.
Both can be found on the Xiaomi website.
3. Get the "minimal ADB and Fastboot" tools. You will find in the web.
4. Get TWRP (you will find out what this is and why you need it here in the forum). Take care that it is a version for your phone model, else worst case it will not work.
5. Put the attached files to an external SD card in your phone.
6. install TWRP. Boot into "Fastboot" mode and install TWRP with command "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img".
7. Boot into recovery mode - if yoiu did everything right, should be TWRP now
7a. Wipe - Format data - confirm with "Yes", then go back to main menu
7b. Wipe - advanced wipe - select all except the last 2 (expecially NOT "external SD" if you put your files on there),
go back to main menu
7c. Install - select location where you've put the "havoc 3.8 update.zip" and select the file, afterwards wipe Cache / Dalvik (TWRP will give you this option after install), DO NOT REBOOT
7d. Install - select location where you've put the "magisk v20.4.zip" and select the file, afterwards wipe Cache / Dalvik and then reboot to system.
Now, hopefully, congratulations and enjoy
If something happens and it will not work at all, search the web first for solutions and, if still does not work and you do not get along with it, do not worry. You can always go back to the Xiaomi original ROM with the XiaoMi Flash Tool. Phone must be in "Fastboot" mode for this. In the flash tool, select your ROM location (ideally in the root of your drive as this tool cannot interpret spaces in paths), then confirm and ensure that you have ticked "Clean all" in the bottom, NOT "clean all and lock" - else you will have to do the unlock procedure again.
Sometimes, you need the "permissiver v5.zip" which you will find on the web. In case the above does not work, you can try to install the Permissiver. I never needed it, and I'm using 2 Redmi Olivelite.
I just tried this and had a success message from TWRP about the Havoc 3.8 flash but the Majisk file had an error from within TWRP first time & then it installed after reboot. But I still go straight into TWRP after rebooting.
Right now I have TWRP on the device & a micro SD card to get files onto the device but no OS on it & no backup as one way or another I want a ROOTed OS & it was the Chinese version when I got the phone so useless to me anyway.
What's the best approach from here to get this thing running again?
Thanks!!! Thanks!!! Thanks!!! after trying to get a GSI rom run on my daugthers olivelite i finally got a new rom working. I don't know why last guides didn'twork for me actually a recently requested a boot.img patch but i managed to patch it myself after dealing with python. Now will try to update it to 3.12 i suppouse it iwll have many improvements. But this worked right out of the box for me. Just followed each step and good to go.
For anyone interested. its de 2Gb/32Gb Global Version. with 12.0.3 latest MIUI updated applied trough fastboot. I used OFOX to test it and it worked fine by now.
If you have guide to update HAVOC please point me in the right direction.
Thanks again
I got off .Havoc precisely because it did not have voLTE support & BT HS 's didn't work. Has anyone had any luck on these 2
I absolutely thank you for this rom, I can now miraculously play Asphalt 9 on high settings at 30ish fps while on miui it struggled on lowest settings, the UI is flawless but I only have one problem I can't send nor receive SMS and the phone sometimes reboots randomly but that cannot make me go back to miui since it's too heavy for my phone.
IS THERE any fix for not being able to receive or send SMS
I have a black screen [FIxed by installing OrangeFox recovery]
