Hi All, I recently got my new LG V30+ H930DS Indian Variant. I searched the forum but could not found exact info how we can root and install custom recovery on the same?
Can someone please help me out here?

I'm sorry,you can't. If that is important to you, you bought the wrong V30/V30+ without researching first. Only H930, H930G (some of them), and open market LG US998 have unlocked bootloader (via the LG Bootloader Unlock website) with full fastboot flash commands. We've been telling people this since September 2017. The open market US998 V30+ should also have bootloader unlock and doesn't -- but that's another story.
The T-Mobile guys are still working on getting root for the H932 -- which has unlocked bootloader, but not full flash commands available. But all other variants like the H930DS have locked down bootloader.
I own both the open market US998 V30 and the V30+. One has root, the other doesn't. And yet the unrooted one right now is my daily driver, so it's a great phone even without root. Just change the launcher to Nova, add custom icon packs, use an add blocker like Blokada.
If you have updated to Oreo already, you can even use substratum themes. (I can't, yet, as I don't have Oreo yet.)

Well, you could have researched H930DS bootloader unlock and root here on XDA, so you would know beforehand instead of asking later.
No, you aren't limited to buying in India. My last phones before this (2014-2017) I bought from other countries, not the country where I live. I've seen people who bought other V30 who live in India.
My rooted V30 phone is not my daily driver, so the unrooted V30+ is still very good.

Use Frankenstein thread method, convert to US998 or AS998 to flash Oreo KDZ.
EDIT :
US998 is better since it also has fastboot flash commands, in case you ever want to unlock bootloader and root.

No. Don't do it.
You can only safely flash North America variant to other North America variant. Even then, T-Mobile H932 is off limits.

@TxanMoe who discovered the WTF method bricked his phone trying exactly that -- going from North America AT&T H931 to Europe H930. @runningnak3d had to help him recover back to US998.
North America variants should stay North America. There's plenty of North America variants you can flash on H931-- US998, AS998, H933, VS996.

You need to follow the Frankenstein instructions. There's a specific order to do the flashing and you use Dev Patched LGUP. To convert H931 to US998, you have to flash US998 Nougat first, do a Master Reset, then flash US998 Oreo. It's all in the instructions.

The US998 seems just right for me - all bands I need and all functions are now working as they should (with the branded H931 AT&T I had wifi-tethering problems)

If truly carrier unlocked and still H931 firmware, you CAN use on other operators -- but you still won't get updates. AT&T only gives updates to customers on their network and they don't publicly release KDZ. They only give OTA updates.
Bottom line: only AT&T customers want H931 firmware... For everyone else, it's useless.
By using Frankenstein method, you convert H931 to a North America carrier unlocked model which WILL receive KDZ updates. There are several North America carrier unlocked variants, but US998 is most popular.
Also, H931 doesn't have fastboot flash commands, so can't be bootloader unlocked and rooted as "H931". (But you can convert back to H931 after bootloader unlock and root, if you wish -- using a TWRP-flashable H931 stock firmware ROM.) Of all the North America variants, US998 has fastboot flash commands.

Is it true that I want to flash back to h931 because there are two lte bands I need enables for full coverage?
I'm assuming there are no ways to enable those radios while on us998?

If you read the part you quoted... of the North American variants, only US998 has fastboot flash commands. But if your bootloader is unlocked on US998 and you have TWRP installed, then you can flash H931 stock ROM (aka TWRP-flashable zip) to convert back to H931. Then you will have all the H931 bands.
With TWRP installed, you don't need ADB any more. We are only using ADB to unlock bootloader and install TWRP.
I think it's fair to point out that once you convert H931 to US998 by flashing the US998 KDZ, you can never fully convert back to H931, as no KDZs are available from AT&T. You can flash the H931 ROM with TWRP, but not the full firmware.
For most people that's not a problem, as US998 is superior to H931 in almost every way.
Only concern would be that you'd never receive OTA updates again, even if you're an AT&T customer. All updates will have to be manual (which I prefer anyway, but some people may be different).

Right, but the AT&T customers (very few) are people who want unlocked bootloader and TWRP. They can get that, and with TWRP-flashable zip, can also get AT&T features and those two extra bands back, IF they are AT&T customers.
However, most of the people (like the person who started this thread) who buy these H931 are NOT AT&T customers. This person wanted an EU H930, but got an H931 because it was probably cheaper.
These 2017 H931 phones are being sold around the world on eBay or eBay type sites as "UNLOCKED" LG V30 H931. Yes, they are carrier unlocked by code -- but will not receive updates for these owners who live all over the world. The only way to do that is to convert to another North American variant and use LGUP to update. The best choice is US998 firmware. (And just converting to update has nothing to do with bootloader unlock and root -- which some people don't want to do, they just want updates.)
These people don't care they will never be able to return to unrooted, bootloader locked stock H931 AT&T firmware -- as they can just sell the phone as pure stock bootloader locked US998 on eBay or whatever. The same way converted LS998 V30+ are sold as US998 V30+.

I think you know I agree with all that. If I had an H931 myself, I would convert it in a heartbeat. If my H932 could be converted to US998 I would do so too (despite loosing band 71).
But not everybody is the same. For example, while I know it wasn't a concern to you, preserving my 2-year warranty was necessary for me in case of hardware issues, and held me back from rooting for almost a year. To others, downloading KDZs from a non-LG site and installing them with Dev Patched LGUP -- simple enough for you and me -- may seem rather involved compared to receiving an OTA update. And yet others may want to be able to sell their phones as complete stock to a user who has absolutely no idea what we are talking about on XDA, and who expects OTAs like if they'd bought the phone from AT&T.
So, everybody is different. Which is why I think it is fair to at least mention the consequences of procedures we advocate here. And I advocate them too, so I am in completely sync with you there

While what you say is correct, there are many reasons you cannot get an OTA on an LG phone...
* My wife can not get an OTA on her completely stock native B&H Photo US998, which has never been bootloader unlocked.. Others with B&H Photo (which is the OFFICIAL carrier unlocked US998) have come here complaining they are stuck on Nougat since 2018.
* Older India H930DS owners can not get an OTA update on their phones. (LG changed the supply chain for the newer India H930DS phones and older ones can no longer receive OTA updates.). These are people who bought India H930DS brand new, when first released in India and LG has abandoned them.
My point is: LG OTA updates are never guaranteed in any way whatsoever.
That does not prevent those people from selling those US998 or H930DS phones, just because it doesn't receive OTA updates. That's not important when selling the phone. It's a used phone, sold as is.
At some point I'm going to sell my wife's phone, and it's going to be sold as genuine carrier unlocked US998 -- and I'm never going to mention I had to MANUALLY update it to Oreo and probably to Pie (when it becomes available and is stable). I'm not going to mention it doesn't get OTA updates.. It's going to be sold as-is.
These H931 people come here looking for solutions because they cannot update their phone. So, I'm not going to talk about potential problems for potential future owners. I'm going to solve the current owner's problem right now. Future owners will probably be glad that it's a carrier unlocked US998.
Same with LS998. They HAVE to convert to another variant -- to not only carrier unlock, but to get updates. I'm NOT going to tell them they can't carrier unlock their phone because of FUTURE owners who may want stock LS998 on Sprint?
I'm not arguing with you, I'm just telling you why I will never ever talk about OTA updates for someone who doesn't own this phone right now.

Seems like owners of H931/H933 models have to convert their devices into the US998 model in order to install custom Oreo ROMs. But having said that, I haven't seen any ROMs with links to a US998 version, just the H930 and H932. I'm sort of confused, so does that mean owners of the US998 model can flash any ROM version they want?

ALL AOSP/Lineage ROMs (unless specifically H932-only) are compatible with ALL V30/V30+/V30S.
Complete answer:
You've asked a complicated question.
* For the discussion below we are mostly talking about North America variants only.
* Some of this below does not apply to H930/H930DS/H930D/H930G (the 930's).
* Some of this below is also not just to answer this question but for other people who want to buy this fantastic phone.
1) For any V30/V30+/V30S, you have to have fastboot flash commands and have a specific date range of stock Oreo firmware to use the WTF exploit to unlock the bootloader and root. (This does not apply to the T-mobile H932. It has its own root method, has different RSA encryption and is an island to itself. My opinion is to stay away from H932, unless you are a T-mobile customer and specifically want H932 for the T-mobile LTE band 71. I welcome all H932 development, of course and am thankful we finally have root, etc for it. But no need to go out and buy it if you're not a T-mobile customer who wants LTE band 71. Other T-mobile customers have US998 -- original or converted from like LS998 -- and use it on T-mobile.)
Of the North American variants, only the US998 has fastboot flash commands AND has firmware which is totally compatible with all other North America variants, EXCEPT for H932. So, you at least temporarily convert to US998 to unlock bootloader, root. You can stay on US998 if you like, or you can flash back to another North America variant firmware at that point and still retain unlocked bootloader and TWRP (with ability to root). US998 is the official carrier unlocked North American variant, so works with most North American carries. However, some carriers only give some service options on their own firmware; Wi-Fi calling, etc. Your choice whether to stay on US998 firmware or flash to another carrier firmware. I'm on AT&T, but I am still running US998 rooted stock firmware.
2) Once bootloader unlocked and rooted, you can also install custom AOSP ROMs -- but some are easier than others. Former VS998, LS9998, AS998 and original US998 have no problems. AT&T H931 and Canada H933 have issues getting ASOP ROMs to boot up; however there's a complicated workaround was developed where you re-flash different firmware a few times for it to work. You can now run AOSP ROMs on H931/H933, but unless you already have those, there's no reason to specifically buy them if your desire is to run AOSP ROMs. T-mobile H932 has different RSA encryption and needs separate ROMs for that model.
3) The first dev to make several AOSP/Lineage ROMs registered his H930 on AFH server website (which a lot of XDA devs use, and which I use as they give free server space for development), and now AFH thinks ALL V30 are "H930". Even VS996, H933, US998 V30 KDZ which I upload to H930 are categorized by AFH as "H930" when it's not. Confuses people when they click on a link, goes to AFH website and says "H930". ALL AOSP/Lineage ROMs (unless specifically H932-only) are compatible with ALL V30/V30+/V30S.
4) For North American variants, you cannot cross flash H930 or H930DS full stock firmware "ROMs". Stock firmware ROMs are just stock KDZ in TWRP-flashable format. Do NOT try to flash a North American variant to a stock firmware H930/H930DS ROM. You can only flash other North American stock firmware (except for H932) and AOSP/Lineage ROMs. The ONE exception to that is the Boombox ROM -- which is BASED on H930 stock firmware, but IS compatible with all V30/V30+/V30S (except for T-mobile H932).

Complete answer:
You've asked a complicated question.
* For the discussion below we are mostly talking about North America variants only.
* Some of this below does not apply to H930/H930DS/H930D/H930G (the 930's).
* Some of this below is also not just to answer this question but for other people who want to buy this fantastic phone.
1) For any V30/V30+/V30S, you have to have fastboot flash commands and have a specific date range of stock Oreo firmware to use the WTF exploit to unlock the bootloader and root. (This does not apply to the T-mobile H932. It has its own root method, has different RSA encryption and is an island to itself. My opinion is to stay away from H932, unless you are a T-mobile customer and specifically want H932 for the T-mobile LTE band 71. I welcome all H932 development, of course and am thankful we finally have root, etc for it. But no need to go out and buy it if you're not a T-mobile customer who wants LTE band 71. Other T-mobile customers have US998 -- original or converted from like LS998 -- and use it on T-mobile.)
Of the North American variants, only the US998 has fastboot flash commands AND has firmware which is totally compatible with all other North America variants, EXCEPT for H932. So, you at least temporarily convert to US998 to unlock bootloader, root. You can stay on US998 if you like, or you can flash back to another North America variant firmware at that point and still retain unlocked bootloader and TWRP (with ability to root). US998 is the official carrier unlocked North American variant, so works with most North American carries. However, some carriers only give some service options on their own firmware; Wi-Fi calling, etc. Your choice whether to stay on US998 firmware or flash to another carrier firmware. I'm on AT&T, but I am still running US998 rooted stock firmware.
2) Once bootloader unlocked and rooted, you can also install custom AOSP ROMs -- but some are easier than others. Former VS998, LS9998, AS998 and original US998 have no problems. AT&T H931 and Canada H933 have issues getting ASOP ROMs to boot up; however there's a complicated workaround was developed where you re-flash different firmware a few times for it to work. You can now run AOSP ROMs on H931/H933, but unless you already have those, there's no reason to specifically buy them if your desire is to run AOSP ROMs. T-mobile H932 has different RSA encryption and needs separate ROMs for that model.
3) The first dev to make several AOSP/Lineage ROMs registered his H930 on AFH server website (which a lot of XDA devs use, and which I use as they give free server space for development), and now AFH thinks ALL V30 are "H930". Even VS996, H933, US998 V30 KDZ which I upload to H930 are categorized by AFH as "H930" when it's not. Confuses people when they click on a link, goes to AFH website and says "H930". ALL AOSP/Lineage ROMs (unless specifically H932-only) are compatible with ALL V30/V30+/V30S.
4) For North American variants, you cannot cross flash H930 or H930DS full stock firmware "ROMs". Stock firmware ROMs are just stock KDZ in TWRP-flashable format. Do NOT try to flash a North American variant to a stock firmware H930/H930DS ROM. You can only flash other North American stock firmware (except for H932) and AOSP/Lineage ROMs. The ONE exception to that is the Boombox ROM -- which is BASED on H930 stock firmware, but IS compatible with all V30/V30+/V30S (except for T-mobile H932).
CONCLUSION
Anyway, that's why you see "H930" AOSP ROMS (they are not really just for H930) as well as H932 ROMs (and they ARE only for H932). The best North America variant phones to buy for AOSP/Lineage ROMS are LS998, VS996, AS998, and original US998. H931 and H933 can flash AOSP/Lineage ROMs but after bootloader unlock and root, you have to then go through another flashing procedure to make it work. T-mobile H932 has different RSA encryption and devs have to release separate ROMs for them.
After you bootloader unlock and root, I suggest trying out rooted stock firmware for awhile. Everything works, and on US998 20F we even now have DTS 3D stereo. There are Magisk mods you can flash which give even more capabilities. The only reason I suggest that is because it helps to have a baseline comparison. Then try the AOSP/Lineage ROMs. That way if something doesn't work right, you know whether it's the ROM or the phone.

Hello there i have rooted my us998 and unlocked the bootloader, i am able to flash custom roms in TWRP but they never seem to boot pass the boot animation screen. I have tried LOS16, Pixel experience and DOT OS, they all cant seem to boot pass that screen, so i am certain its not the ROMs (i downloaded the ROMS for h930).
Any help will be appreciated

What US998 firmware are you on? For LOS-16 PIE ROMS, your need to update to most recent Oreo. Or it won't boot/work right.
Was your phone always USS98 or is it former H931/H933? If you read the guide, you know why I'm asking. There's more stuff you would need to do. Or it won't boot.

Yes i followed that guide word for word, and then updated to the latest rooted oreo firmware which is 20h after unlocking bootloader, by flashing from 20e to 20h back to back and then flashed magisk aftewards just as the guide said.
I honestly can't tell if this has always been a US998 model but then looking up the IMEI online shows its a V30 instead of a V30+

Good that you updated to the latest Oreo.
Does your V30 have 128GB of memory or 64GB of internal memory? IF 128GB of internal memory then it's a V30+. It never could have been an AT&T H931 or Canada H933 as they don't natively have the 30+. It could have been a Sprint LS998 V30+ at one point in time, but there's no issues with former LS998 running custom roms.
It's just the we get people in here who go through the bootloader unlock -- but don't bother update to latest Oreo or don't read the part about h931 and h933, and then wonder why they can't boot to custom ROMs. I apologize, I thought you were one of those people.

i bought in dubai as 2nd hand phone and now
im trying to update OTA it says " Your device is already updated " . i have checked in AT&T software official site and the device has available update for July 2019 security patch. My phone security patch is still last July 2018 since i purchased it.
I also tried LG bridge computer update but it shows " LG bridge cannot detect your device O.S. " does it mean im stuck in 8.0 Oreo ? weird, i have a korean version LG V40 and connecting to Lg bridge has no problem it detects the current OS of my V40 LGU + model.
So i realized it maybe because my phone is AT&T model , USA based phone and im not using at&t sim nor network since im in Dubai now
Now question ,is there any other solution to update into android Pie 9.0? or should i just. sell my phone and better buy another V30 or V35 korean version which has no problem in updating O.S. rather than USA based phones which are restricted . thanks

yes ,but im curious why LG bridge cannot detect the current O.S. of my lg v30? im just worried that my phone might not receive android update after long time of waiting.
Last question sir, if the AT&T phone is unlocked already like my LG V30 case, i can insert dubai sim now and it is working to other sim as well, does it mean that i can update as well the software android in any country i go? because this is AT&T US based phone ,does it really require AT&T sim ? or no need since the phone is already unlocked? thanks

No, doesn't have Pie yet, but soon will. They will get Pie. But this question is not really about Pie, this is about updating H931 at all. There's only one way to do that, if you are not an AT&T customer. I tell how in the Sticky.
I've answered this question two or three dozen times and people just keep creating new threads to ask again. Thought sure the Sticky would help and maybe it has.

Device being carrier unlocked (by some code) has nothing to do with getting carrier-approved updates only allowed for that carrier's customers.
AT&T and Sprint don't want you using their devices on other networks, and if you do, they punish you. They also don't care about AT&T/Sprint customers who may sell their phones on eBay to non-customers.
There is a solution. Read the sticky.

Only AT&T H931 and Sprint LS998 are ostensibly restricted. There's a way around the restriction, explained in the sticky.
Neither carrier release public KDZ for their updates. They will only do FOTA (Firmware Over The Air) for customers who have their SIM cards.
This is why LG Bridge won't work for H931 or LS998, because you can capture the URL to the LG Server and post it publicly. We do this all the time in the OTHER variant KDZ threads, where you can download KDZ straight from LG Servers. AT&T and Sprint won't allow that.

You will have to manually install updates. See the sticky.

Thanks for all the responses sir, i decided to sell my at&t used phone, manual upgrading software is too much hectic and risky for me as an ordinary user.
So this is a lesson learned from me and i strongly advised to all foreigners like me who wants to buy 2nd hand LG phones ,better buy korean variants or international version, avoid US based carrier brand phones.
Sk telekom, LG U + this korean variants are way better ,no restriction any country u go u can update the O.S.

* I've already explained it's not all U.S. carrier phones. However, if you research you will know AT&T and Sprint LG phones do not give updates to non-customers, nor do they publicly release KDZ update files. Those two carriers only release FOTA (firmware over the air) to customers.
* Most everyone here in this forum uses or has used LGUP. It's not risky if you just read the directions.
Many people on different LG variants don't get OTA updates (like India H930DS) and even my wife's native US998 -- and it's not because they aren't U.S. carrier customers. So they come here to get updates, and manually install them via Dev Patched LGUP.
