Hello,
I don't use YouTube cause it's blocked in my country and I don't like to use VPN and undergo lot of stuff just to be able to use it. However, the summer is coming and I feel like I should start surfing in it.
So, what is the best YouTube app out there? Should I just stick with the official one or the modified youtube apps and magisk mods perform better? (Ads and battery usage and stuff)

There's a large variety of YB alternatives out there but I prefer this one because it could run without flashing Gapps. It's lightweight, works well, customizable and it has some extra features. It's also missing some basic ones but I've easily got used to it.
P.S. It goes easy on the battery and it has no ads.
cloudflare dns from magisk to unblock youtube
use youtube vances from magisk to use free premium feature like background music & ads free

Adguard which is a local vpn based adblocker which works perfect in all the apps except in YouTube app(it blocks ad in YouTube from browser though).... Using it for more than 6 months and completely happy with the app... But its not available in PlayStore due to the Google's policies.

There is almost no difference in the functionality but do have a major difference in their policies. As u know Adclear gives the same stuff for free but they do use our data for further processing and Adguard dont have any such policies on user data...

I have a LS992 that has yet to be rooted. At this point I've lost at hope that it'll ever happen. Anyways I'm currently using dns66 to block ads but I'm noticing quite a few ads getting thru in apps so I'm looking for another option? Any ideas?
Also are there any options out there for YouTube ad block an background play without root an xposed beyond paying for red? I used to have the xposed modules for it on my g3 an miss it so much

You can download an app called newpipe to watch YouTube videos without ads, it also supports background playback.
You can get it on https://f-droid.org/
Use Adguard for anything else, it blocks adds ij every app w/o root.
...... at the expense of bricking in some cases....
in my case the only reason to get root on a device...is to install V4A.... otherwise .... no other use.
To make / restore proper backups with Titanium.

there is no V4A for huawei no 64 bit driver available only JamesDSP
Rooting for me for adaway ,modify the sound, titanuim backup, edit the dpi , remove bloatware
full control for me
Ad blocking is achievable without root. For me, it's a few tweaks here and there like setting dpi and other stuff that is more about little annoyances than major issues.
Edit: so today I finally got around to rooting this thing. I have rooted, installed magisk, and installed xposed. I am really glad I did. Here is what I like so far:
Adaway - because of ads (can also disable ads without root though)
Vanced YouTube (doesn't require root, but worth mentioning)
Persistent dpi change... Smallest width stays at 451 after reboot
Smali Patcher - magisk module to disable flag_secure so I can screenshot anything
I'll add more when I remember it.
I was rooting every phone in the past because it was easy. Huawei is much more complicated and I didn't want to risk and brick the new phone. Now, after four months with Mate 10, I don't miss root, TWRP and custom ROMs because everything works fine out of the box.
Bloatware apps are uninstalled or disabled, depending on app.
I have ads in only one app for home workout, other 50 apps I use are free of ads.
I use Firefox with uBlock Origin add-on and Youtube Vanced, so no ads here too.
Stock Backup app works fine including auto-backup and I don't need Titanium Backup anymore.
Call recording works fine with Call Recorder - ACR app (even on Android 9 Pie) and I don't need the call recording TWRP patch.
That's all.

what do you do for v4a replacement without root?? because..... this is 32 bit 384kHz audio hardware and i think its potential is huge .... but without root.... its not worth it..
Sorry, I don't listen music on the phone.

Rooting for me :
Full control, using Tasker or Macrodroid - control wifi, radio, cellular, screen, battery charging, etc. so many
Adaway - can use DNS66 for unrooted phones
Full Backups using Titanium or Migrate, moving files - Google backup is not so bad these days though
Nandroid Backups - oh yeah, no fear of disasters
Kernel control - Kernel Adiutor, Ex Kernel Manager, LSpeed, etc.
Apps2SD Pro
I don't use custom roms on my work phones, only on phones for fooling around
Anyway, Huawei Mate 10 not too bad at its unrooted stock with some additional apps like Macrodroid, Gesture Control, Nova Launcher, Greenify, Solid Explorer, Smart Touch Pro.
On this phone, it's a good one that I don't miss the root stuff enough (except for Nandroid backups) to pay Funky Huawei to unlock the bootloader. For their price, I can just add a bit more to get a good Xiaomi phone, and can root at will.
Moving over to the S10e from the S8 Plus (both non-rooted), I'm trying to find a mod which blocks ads all across the system.
I applied something in the past to my S8 which blocks almost all ads, but I can't remember what it is. I can see that I have DNS66 and Disconnect Me Pro installed, both are not running.
So what could be the thing which blocks all of my ads?
In short, looking for a solution to block most if not all ads on my Galaxy S10e.
Thanks a lot in advance.

Thanks. So easy and simple. Hope it works for the long run.
I'm afraid system wide ad blocking is no longer effective. App developers got really smart with ad integrations. I tried DNS solution and Adhell (before it shut down). Nothing works, all popular apps that get frequent updates show ads.
try the app blockada. for me best on the market (no-root)

Doesn't blockada suck the battery empty like a 2nd grader a juice box?
Adaway works well

I tried all the methods that are available. There are many apps where I can't block ads no matter what I try. For example Duolingo app, when it loads an ad not a single ad blocker detected anything! I think many apps and games are smartly programmed to deliver ads from the same server as app content and there is nothing any ad blocker can do. Just like Youtube app.

Disconnect pro is system wide adblocker for samsung devices which is powered by knox. its available in galaxy app store for $23
Disconnect Pro isn't worth the money. $23 for an app that just block traffic but doesn't allow any filters or exclusions except "trusted apps" is quiet expensive.
I tried the app once and wasn't a big fan of it. It works, but nothing more.
Adguards dns is completely for free and with a Tasker quick toggle you can easily switch it off when needed...without to start or restart any app.
I can share my Tasker settings, if someone wants it. I also created a task to disable the DNS if I'm connected to some public WiFi networks where the DNS isn't supported.
Adguard premium. done!
I used adaway with many devices, it works very good.
But sometimes I had to deactivate it, to see some content.

Is it working for Instagram, Facebook etc for the "sponsored" ads?
Minminguard + edxposed + adaway.
+1 for AdGuard Premium (no root).

And there isn't a way to do it. They are sponsored posts, and not ads. Only way is to use modded apks, which personally I don't trust.
So when I have multiple apps open, like for example. Youtube, Notes and Firefox then every time I switch app, the apps left in the background refreshes and lose whatever progress I'm doing in them. It's like they have trouble running in the background. didn't have this problem back in LGV20 so this is odd. I made sure to exclude these apps in the battery optimization and it does not seem to help

Are you on stock firmware or custom ROM? What version of either?
Do you have some task killer app installed?

I have tested this on both stock oreo(US998) and AOSP PIE rom(H918) and the problem persists on both.
No, I do not have any task killers of some sort.

No cleaners, optimizers, etc?
I'm just asking because I had installed paid CC cleaner app upon a good review on technical website. But after running for a few days I noticed it was killing tasks in the background, like Waze when I would look at an incoming email. Waze was running just fine until it temporarily became a background task. Then it got killed, even though I was still using it!
Also my phone started running hot and had become sluggish in spite of the fact this app was supposed to be "optimizing" my phone. So I uninstalled it.
I'm just curious if there's some app you've have for a while that you forgotten about, that is doing something like that... That would also explain why you see it on stock as well as custom ROMs, because it would be an app you installed yourself.
Least likely is you have the nuclear setting in Developer Options to limit how many apps can run at one time. Most people don't even know about that.
Otherwise I have no other answers.
Thanks for the insight. But the thing is, 90% of apps I have in both my US998 and H918 are open-source from F-droid. None of them really messes up with my battery. The only proprietary apps I have are first party apps from Google like Youtube, Google maps and Play services and some stock LG apps. Yeah, I never touch the app background limit in the developer options. Anyway, I appreciate you trying to help me and you already helped me a lot before.
