Is it possible to downgrade? - Sony Xperia XZ1 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone! Since I've found no information about it, I need to ask if it's ok to do a firmware downgrade. I'm currently on 47.1.A.12.145, and want to go to 119 or earlier because of xposed bootloop on newer fw's.
I did downgrades with other models (XZ, Z5), is the same procedure, just flash the firmware?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can.
As far as i know, Xposed is not working on .119 firmware, it's working with .75 and super su
Right now, i recommend you wait till the next update or wait for the Xposed fix (if we are lucky enough)

Thanks a lot, I was going to downgrade to .119. Now I have to get that older firmware or wait to the xposed fix :highfive:

Problems updating stock 4.4.4 to 5.1

Hi there,
sorry for bothering you with my problem but I really cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. I am running a pure stock version of 4.4.4 on my international version of the moto E, with no root and no unlocked bootloader. I am willing to update to the latest 5.1 build but whitout unlocking the bootloader and stuff.
From what I understand the first step to do so in the easiest way possible would be to download the first 5.0.2 soak (22.21.32 341MB) update and put it into the main SD card. From then the phone should detect the update from the settings, but mine isn't.
I have already tried sideloading the update by going to the recovery and choosing update from adb. Also I have developer options enabled.
Thanks for your help.

Well, 1st of all let me tell you, that you are completely going the wrong way.... You DO NOT need to flash 5.0.2.... From what I know, factory images of XT1021 for official Android 5.1 lollipop are available...
Check this LINK
There are three versions, choose the appropriate one. Download it, and use mfastboot to flash the latest FW (Don't worry, because these are signed images and will work on devices with locked bootloader)
If u think that these are quite complicated, just hit the play store, make sure that Motorola Update Services app is updated.... and wait for the OTA.
If you are 100% sure that you have not unlocked the bootloader, then pm me, I will give the instructions to flash the fw.
Cheers

Thank you for your quick reply. My current firmware is "21.12.40.condor_reteu_reteuall.en.EU reteu" do you think I can safely flash the us retail version via mfastboot?

I am sorry, but I think I made a mistake
The official image is not available for your model at the moment. What u can try is wait for the update to be pushed.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

new update - v20b-sep-11-2015

hey guys,
i just got a notification saying there is a new update available for my beloved mini.
-> d620r in europe
-> v20b-sep-11-2015
well, my problem is the following:
i am rooted, have a patched bootloader, twrp recovery and xposed (with several modules, for example xhalo)
can i update? what will the update do to my configuration? can anyone tell me what the update contains? (is it worth it?)
thanks

I do hope Tse™ could provide us flashable copy of v20b (I'm using his flashable 5.0.2 version complete with TWRP and SU) if it is not troublesome...also curious to know what update LG did.
back to the topic, i don't think you will be able to update since your current rom has already been modified, usually update works only on non-rooted unmodified rom
I flash the 20b.kdz and now i cant root, Kingroot-lg one lick root, towelroot, Purpledrake, etc.. Nothing working..
Still nothing for Serbia ...I do not know if it's safe to flash Germany kdz ?

Seems is memory leak fixed, battery charging with phone swiched off fixed to, i got this with brigtnes 50%,no find bugs
Is it worth installing? Any good improvements?

Ok so i updated to V20D and kingsroot it's working. When you get that error message, just continue.
620LTE.
so v20b = v20d? im guessing just branding but both do contain the same content?
been using v20b for a couple of days now and i'm very much happy with the improvement (as a poster said, second life to stock rom and it is very much usable now)

Just a heads up, the new OTA that At&t released has an updated bootloader.

Why didn't att just play nice and update to V3? Instead they update To V4 so I can't flip flop between t-mobile firmware and there's. Does root still work? On the other hand, I can flash Verizon firmware I guess.

I haven't attempted rooting it, and I won't be. There might be a small chance that it may work but I'm not sure.

Well ... if root doesn't work I know what my next firmware will be. (Tmobile)
I can't root, looks like it's back to the drawing board. It figures this happen as soon as I feel it necessary to root my device......
I advise everyone to not take any OTAs after the first August patch so you can still be able to root and flash roms. It isn't a problem for me since I wasn't planning on rooting this phone again anyways..

Pretty sure the eng boot will still work on the new BL, just no old ROMs. :^)

@raremind couldn't root on BL4. It's unfortunate how we can't root on API2, but if the developers are willing to find out a new way to gain root access on API2, then it wouldn't be the end of the world for anyone who wants the latest OTA but still want root.

Yeahhh, thought I'd give it a go
G930U firmware was just updated to API3 which has the incremented bootloader, so the individuals who updated to the latest AT&T firmware can use U firmware now. :victory:
EDIT: Here is @joe3681 's thread that has the download to the firmware.

Upgrading

Tired of seeing the new update notification. Looking at upgrading my phone. Unfortunately, I don't install ROMs all the time, so I tend to forget the steps / applications needed to upgrade. I'm rooted, and bootloader is unlocked.
Can anyone help?
Take a screenshot of current t about phone under settings so we know which version you are running

So there are now two newer versions out there, the latest only has an OTA no kdz, and if you flash it as is you will loose root
I suggest wait until there is a method to keep root and flash the latest, which I'm sure will be soon

Okay, thank you. I have the "j" version downloaded. The new one is "l" correct?
Last time I tried updating to the "j" version, LG Up wouldn't recognize my phone.

L is the latest, if you want to flash j right now feel free
There are two Roms by eliminater74 and one by andy_zahng
For any of these choice you do not need LGup, so long as you are previously rooted
Just flash firmware (part one) via TWRP
Then flash any of those three Roms via TWRP
Reboot,
You will have j rooted
But being i tend to recommend a full wipe i would say wait until the latest L is out in a flashable .zip, should be soon

Should I upgrade to Pie?

Currently using firmware 47.1.A.12.270 with root+drm fix. I'm considering to upgrade my phone to Pie but i'm unsure about its stability. I wanna hear how stable is Pie and is it good to upgrade?

Since you are already rooted - you could (probably) downgrade... although I am not able to find official firmware for OREO.
My device is 0FCE:01F3 (seems that there is a different version of Sony Xperia XZ1 with id 0FCE:B00B).
I guess that you have nothing against unlocking the bootloader
So in other words: you could try upgrading and see (although way back might be difficult).
As for me... I have accepted the upgrade and I regret that.
Android 9 Pie blocks one feature that is mandatory for me: call recording is no longer possible.
There should be some gesture navigation - it is not present in pie on xz1.
Except that... you should be going into a better direction. I am not sure about root availability for xz1... shouldn't be a problem I guess?
P.S.
I bought this phone only because my previous (it was gt-n910c) had some HW issues with calls. I wanted a phone with NFC and my assumption was I won't root it (to use banking apps without magisk). Now it seems that my calls are flawed and I might need to use magisk+root... and I am not able to physically remove bloatware (especially spyware called fatbook or something like that). Shame on google, Shame on sony.
As your bl is already unlocked download Xperia firm and see if Pie is available in your region, if so download Newflasher (read how to use it), there is a root guide posted here for Pie.
It's in the guide section

I have downloaded G8341_Customized NOBA_1310-7488_47.1.A.16.20_R24B from XperiFirm which is last version of Oero but never got time to flash.
As I don't use call recording, i'm good to upgrade to Pie.
