maybe use a universal phone clone app
Definitely works across Huawei/Honor range - used it to move from Honor 7 to P10 Lite, then on to Honor 9.
If you can get the app installed on another manufacturer's device, don't see why it shouldn't work.

No, the data should be fine. The Backup app backs up the data and the app - when you restore, most of the apps will restore fine. I think the only ones I had a problem with were a banking app, and Netflix? Even stuff like Google Authenticator worked ok.

Been trying to get my SMS from my SGS to the SGSII but it doesn't seem to be having any of it. Tried backing it up several ways and it still doesn't work...
Wondering if anyone has had success in doing this?
Thanks

I did try that, I copied the XML file over onto my SGSII but it failed to restore them. I'll try again.

Did exactly that along with Internet bookmarks from my SGS to my SGSII with My Backup Pro off the market, there is a 30 day trial version just called My Backup. Worked with no problems.

Thats strange. Well not sure what file is what to be honest. I simply copied everything from my sgs to my sgs2 including the sms back up apk. worked like a charm. What version are you using? im using 3.7
I used my backup pro to transfer everything from my nexus to the galaxy, copied the entire rerware folder from the nexus to the galaxy then had to point the galaxy to the rerware folder in the settings menu of backup pro.
Which part of the backup/restore is failing?

Worked the second time round
It might have been that accepted when it asked to check for duplicates or maybe it was because I removed the 200 text message per thread restriction, either way it worked.
Cheers...
Thanks to everyone else who posted too
good stuff!
I am using Omnia II Windows Mobile 6.1
Is there a way to migrate SMS cross platform to SGS II?
I've used SMS Backup + to go from Desire to SGS2. Not sure if there's a WinMob equivalent that would work.
Edit: Found this

does this work with restoring apps and app data also?
if so could i use it on my sgs1, ensure the data is stored on my SD card, then with the SD Card in the sgs2, restore my apps, app data, sms etc?

Works perfectly. Kies seems to work as well.
SMS Backup & Restore did the trick for me too, the only caveat being that because I moved the whole SD card containing the backups and config from my Hero to my SGS2, when I started the Backup & Restore program it was looking at the wrong path for the xml files and so didnt initially see my backup files.
Editing the path in the program preferences menu fixes this.
Already mentioned, but https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&feature=search_result
SMS Backup+ works brilliantly.

It should do, there is an option for this, but you need to be rooted on both devices in order to do that particular operation. I wasn't at the time i used it.
My Backup Pro worked
Atrix -> SG2

hi everyone,
well i have 2 Xperia Z5 Compact, the one I use now I will sell to my friend, and the other I will start to use. how can I clone or transfer or do like in windows image ghost all the system+ data to the other Z5 compact before I sell?
is it possible to clone/copy/transfer/flash everything in my current Z5 Compact to the new one?
Both of them are the same variant E5823
if yes, how can I do that please?
any suggestion will be so much appreciated!
thank you all
There app called xperia transfer. Maybe that can help you
Xperia transfer was made for this. If it doesn't get everything there are non root backup apps as well.

It's called nandroid backup in Android world, you can swap the current state of your device between other devices and back again. I keep daily backups in the cloud

Yup, that's why we suggested the xperia transfer. There's no need to transfer system files back and forth. I don't remember the non root backup apps but there are a lot of popular ones similar to titanium back up

it's only for Viber... they don't offer cloud backup like whatsapp... so annoying , i would like to have all my data of Viber in the other z5c without losing anything!

Other than the TeamWin or TWRP how can I backup my system settings, software, apps and such. I don't want to root as it will void the warranty with Verizon and Samsung.
Helium (previously known as Carbon) in the App store. It needs to be authorized via USB.
Good luck getting Helium to work. I spent days struggling with it, and could get a partial backup about 1 time in 10. And the developer provides zero support.
Super Backup Pro can backup your apps and other things, you can also use Samsung Backup to do that.

But not app data (without Root).
FYI, Helium works fine for me on all the devices I've recently used: Sprint Galaxy Note 3 (flashed to AOKP 7.1.2 Nougat), Unlocked 910C Galaxy Note 4 (both stock ROM & LOS 7
1.2), Unlocked GS7E, Unlocked GS8+ (Nougat, Oreo beta), and Unlocked GS9+ (Oreo).

All app data is stored in "Android" folder on the root of your internet or external storage.
how did you guys manage to get helium to work? It just refuses to work for me I activate it from the pc and the min i close the app and start it again it asks for activation again. I contacted the developer but got no response from him.
Folks;
what is, these days, the best way to backup and restore all your app data on an Android phone after doing a clean flash of some new custom ROM? Though flashing the ROM itself in most cases is straightforward on my Moto G, yet re-installing and reconfiguring all the apps I had / wanted takes quite a while, no matter whether I use Titanium Backup (which seems increasingly unstable for some apps anyway and isn't able to backup/restore some apps such as Signal or certain calendar / webdav accounts) or Google app backups (which never worked on my device except for doing a plain re-install of all apps I had but without any user data).
Is there a sane way to automate this procedure or do this in a more "stable" way? Ideally, I'd just like to backup a list of selected apps, clean-flash my ROM, restore these backups and be ready to go again. Not sure, however, whether this is even remotely possible.
Thanks in advance and all the best,
Kristian

Depends on Android version: Some tools what create flashable ZIPs like App2Zip and/or Migrate work only on Android versions lower 9.

That's what I supposed. I'm on LineageOS 17.1 / Android 10, so guess these options are all out. Sometimes these things really suck... Anyway, thanks bunches for your feedback, greatly appreciated.

Ahh... and recovery works like this too? What folders do you need to backup for that to make sense? Sounds like a viable solution to me...

Hi,
I run the pixel 6 and I wondered if I can restore my hardware as an image? I mean, when I used the back up / restore from Google drive , I got my contacts, apps but I still need to re download my apps, choose themes, setup about security, fingerprints, schema, Google pay etc.... Is it possible to skip all those things and upload a complete back up as an image, like I do with openwrt and firmware on router?
Thank you
Short answer: No. Longer answer: You can backup apps and their settings with the likes of Swift Backup, but that requires root and the remaining stuff still needs to be set up again.
Last time I restored my phone through Google I selected to restore all apps/contacts/settings and it basically restored the phone close to 100%. What was left for me to do was minimal.

What I understood finally is we can if we are on Android stable release
if we ever get TWRP as a custom recovery, this will be easy.

I was thinking of something else. My mistake.
edit: @james8076 Even on a full wipe / factory reset most of the settings are restored including downloaded apps from the PS, text and phone logs. What isn't restored is app data like games along with some passwords that are not saved in Google.
@vandyman I used Appdash once but unless you are rooted it will not restore app data if I recall correctly.
The whole restore process isn't as difficult as it used to be even unrooted and bl locked. I can usually do the whole thing after PS downloads the apps in about a half hour or less. But... it's still a pain no doubt about that.
