I just purchased one of these units as a color eReader with WiFi, 800 x 600, touch screen.
Turning it on I was expecting typical eReader app., but instead there was a full blown Android (missing market though). The eReader is just a Kodo App.
Android 1.5 Cupcake, 500mhz, 2 gig flash, SD
This is the Canadian version, the US version indeed presents you with a eReader App as the Home screen, but does have the Android menu.
Flashes are available for both Canada and US.
The Canadian version has ES File Explorer so adding apps. isn't hard, but the US version Needs Android SDK to get an App installed. It appears I can switch to root in a terminal.
I'm having some issuse with networking though. It surfs no problem and can download. But an RDP client connects through a local network, but can't connect through the Internet, just resets the connection. Also it can't even download an ebook from Kobo,, just does a 1.8k download, reset, 1.8 download, reset and so on. Pretty bad you can't even use it for what it was meant. The US version appears to download books from Barnes & Noble, but it's to difficult to try it with RDP.
I'm looking at trying to update to a newer Android for it and could use some pointers.
Go to the Pandigital site, go to download and scroll to the bottom, you will see where you can get the update to a tablet rather than a reader.
Couple of cautions though...it voids your warranty, you will lose the PDN's original launcher screen, and mine anyway updated to Eclair.
But I did it any way and have been able to load pretty much anything, however I can't get angry birds to work.
You must have the white Pandigital Novel. I believe it has Eclair builtin, and just butcher it with a Barnes & Nobel home/launcher. Upgrading to the OP flash gives you a normal home/launcher and the ability to add apps. Have you got Market running on it?
The black novel has similar hardware but less ram. It has Cupcake builtin and a butcher home/launcher. Upgrading to OP, still just gives you Cupcake. I have Market running on it, but need the ugly hack to get it registered.
heard anything about the 9" one from QVC?
From the picture it looks like its running the OP Platforum, with a B&N app as the Ereader. Specs. would say it needs at least Donut, but my Kobo app. on the Canadian version requires donut too, but they managed the run it on cupcake.
I like the 6" screen for reading, but a 9" tablet with the right aspect 4:3 would be awesome. I have a 10" zt180, but its a 16:9 or worse and looks long and skinny. Really messes up icon spacing when you swith portrait to landscape.
I think 16/9 is a great size for the multimedia aspect in landscape and the reader will be great in portrait. Just my opinion though. To each his own.

UPDATE!
As B&N closed operations, PanDigital has issued a free update utility which updates the firmware from what comes stock to an OPEN Android platform. Here is the link for the 7" support page:

My wife and I just got the new NordicTrack E 15.0 Elliptical that has a built in 10 Inch tablet that runs Android. When I turn the unit on I can see it boot up in android 2.2 and then after a few seconds the auto starts there iFit NordicTrack software. My question is: Is there a way for android to stop the iFit from auto starting? Once it is started the Home Button takes me to the home of the iFit software, not the android desktop.
I want to be able to use netflix on it while working out. I'll post a video this evening of the thing in action since no one else has yet.
I'll dig around and I would like to do a ROM dump if anyone is interested. I just do not like how locked down the tablet is. Here is a link to the unit if anyone is interested but there are no specs there on the tablet.

Ok, so I am quite new to these cheap Android TV boxes, so far its doing really well. I have changed the home screen to TVLauncher and removed all the bloatware apps which came with the device.
However I am wondering if there is a better Android build I could install, one which knows I am not able to use touch at all and I am just using a remote (although one with a touchpad and keyboard on it). Most things work fine, however anything which requires touch (for scrolling etc) is a pain to use.
The box I have is; Coolead CQ9
I am unable to post the Amazon link due to being new, but a simple search should return the product
Specifications:
OS: Android 5.1
CPU :Amlogic S905 Quad-core 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 up to 2GHz
GPU: Penta-Core [email protected]+
FLASH: 8GB NAND FLASH
SDRAM: 1GB DDR3
Does anyone have any suggestions to modding the boxes version of Android to make it all work a little nicer, or if possible an alternative version of Android which will work on this box? I believe the parts inside the box are basically the same as the thousands of other boxes going by different names which seem to be identical.. So I guess this means the hardware itself is rather generic.
If the answer is a simple no, I am tempted to build my own to see if I had more freedom with it? Ideally I would want to build a box capable of running Android rather than Linux, so I have more options of Apps.
Install opengapps tvstock gapps.

As per title....
I got hold of an OTT M8S Android Box is it worth my time messing around with it?
I switched it on and currently have problems logging on into Google Play Store for one.
I was thinking of upgrading Kit Kat and getting latest KODI to work decently.

If it is in working condition, why not. It should be decent box. Instead Kodi, try FTMC it works better. Also I think that LibreELEC exist for that box
If you are having trouble logging on to google play, check the date and time in settings.
When someone resets or toys with these boxes poorly they reset the date to 1970. Entering the correct date and time will allow the box to communicate with google servers again.
I know some devices allow you to disable the banner ad on the home screen by using an apps-only mode. My TV does not.
I know you can roll back the version... which I did to the final v1 after wasting a bunch of time this afternoon.
Has anyone managed to mod a current version of Android TV Home to disable the banner? I unpacked it, did a bunch of poking, even renaming all googleads.g.doubleclick links.
Unfortunately, when I repacked the APK it was uninstallable.
I can't believe I'm the first to try this, but has anyone had any success or is 1.12.5-280096032-f the last stop if you don't want banner ads on your TV?
