My LG G6 broke down and I received a refund. Now I need a new smartphone, and the camera is a priority. The LG G6 camera was weak, very weak, until I uploaded GCam from Cstark. Now it was better, but GCam had a problem with AF and it was slow, so that the pictures of the children were blurred.
However, I loved the wide angle in G6.
Now I am wondering if the LG V30 is a much better camera, so that you can take everyday photos of kids and family on holidays, events, etc. without the installation of GCam (which I would still install for static photos), or look for something else.
The alternative is the Huawei P20 Pro, but this phone is more expensive by about $ 110 and I do not know if it is worth to pay the difference and if it actually has a better camera.
I care about a good automatic mode so that I can quickly pull out the smartphone and take a picture, because the children do not stop for a photo.

I use stock cameras. Yes, V30 also has wide angle camera.
LG has improved the V30 cameras considerably with Oreo updates.
In so many ways, V30 was what LG G6 should have been.

Surely you aren't saying the 2014 LG G4 camera is better than the 2017/2018 LG V30/V30+/V30S?

I have heard the G4 had the best camera LG ever made.
I'm thinking the p20 pro will have the better camera.
Well to put it simple I think both phone have great cameras but the P20 is better. Now the price difference is something to consider the LG V30 is selling for around 400-300 USD while the p20 pro is selling for 600 bucks so your talking about a 200 to 300 dollar difference. If camera is your main focus I would go with a Pixel 2 XL but for the price the LG V30 is more bang for the buck, it has a DAC a headphone jack and pretty good cameras. Now can you put up with the sometimes buggy LG skin and limited updates and rom support?

That's one of my main gripes about the phone (besides only one speaker at the bottom). Using the Google Camera port makes a considerable difference when it comes to selfies and the rear camera.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Honestly i have no idea. But most of the people who are voting here have no idea either lol. Better off seeing some video comparison online. Not to mention XDA are infested by Huawei fanboys oddly enough.
I THINK, the p20 pro has the better stock cameras and obviously better front camera. LGs HDR is really underwhelming and personally I take log/raw or gcam shots and edit via snapseed.
The video capability is a bit of a similar story. I rarely use stock video cam though it's not because stock is bad, simply because manual, cine mode and snap movie tend to be far more useful. The quality I think is great and I strongly doubt p20 pro can beat graded V30 footage.
So, take my words with a grain of salt. And again check out some YT video comparisons.
I made some photo comparision. In shop LG V30 has more natural colors, and overall photos from LG looks better to me, but P20 Pro are little sharper? I tested LG V30 with GCam and stock camera. When stock cam - both phones was in auto in pro mode

I think I'll go with LG V30.
Huawei P20 Pro is not worth the difference in price (140$) . Am I wrong?

Actually, I sent pictures I found online taken with the V30 using stock and GCam and showed it to my friend who owns a G4 and they preferred the G4 and claimed it's better. So I went online looking for a comparison of the G4 to the V30 and found it. I noticed there's a weird "haze" over the pictures taken from the G4. I wish the person who took the pictures would have taken at least some adjusting for the distance difference required to compensate for the wideness or narrowness of either lens.
I think in the post (Mixed Light 1) it demonstrates superior contrast from the V30 when looking at the security guard and the shadows on the floor as well as all the red panels and boxes. The text on the window in the G4 picture is less legible than the V30 too.
So the china launch of the Mi 9 is today. Anyone buying it? I most likely will if it's around £450 for 8gb /128gb variant. I want me some Snapdragon 855 goodness.
No 4k60fps and 3300 battery? I will pass for the next phone when maybe they choose to upgrade the baseband to global 4g+
My next phone will be OnePlus or Pixel

3300mAh Battery
20W wireless charging
I'm so disappointed by the battery size. 3300mah is less than the Mi 8's battery.
Battery is not that important for me. The disappointing thing for me is lack of OIS. No matter how good the sensor is, OIS is a must have in my opinion. Sensor itself is small enough to have lots of struggle capturing enough light in poor light conditions, removing the OIS will only make the situation worse. I hope that they change their plans for Mi Mix 4 camera or whatever gonna be their next flagship.
The lack of OIS will be felt while capturing photos in low light. Its a big drawback for me
No OIS, no IP rating, no stereo speakers, smaller battery...no thanks!
No way. Waterdrop in 2019? No thanks. Small battery? No thanks. Worse camera in my opinion, nothing special in this phone.
Next phone will be One Plus, Im tired of Xiaomi.

DxO is not the best place to check camera Anyway, even in their test autofocus is worse than Mi 8.
Look at GSMarena comparison tool - its worse than Mi 8. Why? Because it sets high iso and fast shutter comparing to Mi 8. Mi8 shoots in low light with for example 1/15 and ISO 900, but Mi 9 shoots 1/50 and ISO 4200. Its terrible!

"DxO is not the best place?" Then where need check camera?
GSMarena? In my opinion the worst place to check the camera..
Hello.
In gsmarena picture compare tool, view 20 is much better with the same sensor, so it must be software.
Especially in lower light, mi9 is weaker than mi8 and also redmi note 7... Dxo mark score is not logical, maybe there are phones with diferrent software... Despite the score, it does not seem like a great camera, just average, a little bit weaker than mi8. But it has a wide sensor and better hw so, price wise....good enough phone and camera.
Mi 9 gives you sooo much for 500$, but you are looking for some meaningless details in pictures that no one will mention when you post it in FB, Instagaram, Twitter....etc. For sure ~2000$ phone makes much worst pictures for a bucket of money it costs
There is no such offer for hi-end hardware on the market and I`ll take advantage of it when Global version is out.
It has A LOT of things going for it:

https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_announces_more_mi_9_features-news-35578.php
But I feel my Mi 8 still has more than enough life left on it to swap it.
The only reason I'd do it is to sell it at a great price and just add some more to get the Mi 9.

Same unless I can get it with those ebay discount codes cheaper. I'll probably go for the S10e.
What was the deal breaker is probably no OIS and low light photos suck.

After all the crap of waiting 360+ hours to even be able to unlock the bootloader I wont be going Xiaomi again, especially with them now building in Adverts into the base operating system the one thing you want is unlock and a different rom

I think they pledged to make it simpler, imagine with that the Mi 9 Xiaomi has already provided the source code lol.
Both are available at approx 25000 INR (335 US$). I am planning to buy either of the above in a day or two. Hoping to keep the device for 2-3 years.
I would be using it for recording videos (YouTube), occasional gaming, Watching Netflix & youtube.
I am leaning towards Reno 10x, only thing missing is the headphone jack. I keep hearing negative reviews about Color OS.
Depending on the version of the ZenFone you'll likely have less ram and storage, a not as nice screen but still good ips display, and the camera system is prone to not staying in its place (fast moment of the phone and the cam module flaps loose)
I've had one since launch - great phone with a clean software experience but lacking in some areas. But better on battery life than the oppo Reno 10x zoom if you're gaming/watching videos also the headphone output from the 3.5 is way better

10x eats the Zen for breakfast.
OS is excellent as it is close to Android stock. Camera is solid and battery life is at least 60 hours through normal use.
3.5 headphone jack better? Ha ha. No. The USB-C headphones supplied with the phone are amazing and provide digital output whereas 3.5 jacks are analogue. I use a USB-C adapter to connect to the car stereo and it's perfect (both provide lossless audio quality anyway but USB-C is clearer).
What is a "good iOS display"? It's not an iPhone!!
Thanks for that making fun - gboard auto corrected my ips with ios (didnt review what i typed). Also your view on audio being clearly because its type c is erm ok...

Lol...no problem. It was a little bit confusing!
About audio...it's just my opinion and experience based on 40 years of listening to music. I find the USB-C is better, but then it could be a matter of personal taste. I was very unsure about not having a 3.5mm audio jack, but really happy with what I have. I never think about it. Maybe it's all part of just moving with the times?
i love my 10x zoom, color os 7 isn't bad at all its definitely came a long way. Just make sure its the global model and you'll be happy

Unless u want better selfie cameras or Stock android, Oppo Reno 10x is better.
Also ur getting double storage for same price.
6z is only available in 64gb variant in India as of right now. all other are out of stock.
Instead of 6z , go for realme x2 pro, which will also be available in the same price range in sale.
I wouldn't recommend Oppo device mainly cuz of ****ty ota support. Choose OnePlus

It costs 100$ more (one plus 7). Will have to extend my budget.
was determined to buy the s10 lite but I saw some comparison videos on the camera and now I'm changing my mind. The photos look "washed out" compared to other phones in the same price range.
I thought about: xiaomi mi 10 lite, one plus nord, honor 20 pro, huawei p30.
Do you recommend me? (without curved edges)
THANK YOU!!!

S10lite has a great camera
I've previously owned Xiaomi, Huawei and OnePlus devices. All were good in their own way. However, truth be told, the stability, battery life, speed of the S10 Lite is quality, such as are Samsung products overall. I still have my Mi 8 device, which I use for work, it's ok and Miui 12 is cool, but battery life suffered. Huawei, well to be honest it is slightly like a lesser version of Xiaomi, and as Honor is based upon Huawei there are close similarities. OnePlus make good phones. I haven't had the Nord but out of the 2 I'd still lean towards the S10.
I was always someone who liked rooting my device, playing around with kernels etc. You cannot do this with the S10. But, for me, this one time I'm stopped doing it from a practical sense (i.e. it is way too much effort!) I honestly do not miss it! Camera is good, I can still side load everything I want, good storage, great battery life, what's not to like?

Let's not forget that the phone is medium high class and not everything can be perfect.
I am looking at buying a phone with a good camera for work, I work in the property business and now and again I will need to take a few snaps of houses for sale for a website. The camera on the 11 LITE 5G seems to have a good camera.
Any opinions if the camera on this is good enough for professional use ? Maybe it's asking too much but the phone is within my price range and any digital camera for the same price is going to have a pretty crappy lense.
Thanks

Matching DSLR? No.
Find the relatively good camera within your price range is enough.
What's needed is the knowledge of photography. How to take a photo good, or at least fair enough to satisfy customer is what you need.
No matter how good the camera is, people can take bad photos.
You can search and compare specs of phones: https://www.gsmarena.com/search.php3?

Quite honestly I would not recommend any Xiaomi phone for its camera.
Especially the Mi 11 Lite 5G (I have it) is somewhat disappointing, it punches lower than expected considered the phone's price. I would not recommend any particular phone because I don't know what your preferences are in terms of other stuff (and price brackets) but don't waste your time on the Mi 11 Lite 5G if you really need a good camera. This thing does not even have OIS.
Do NOT buy any phone without OIS (except Pixel series) if you ever want to shoot free-hand.
The upcoming Pixel Premium might be a good choice for you (it's not released yet.)
Samsung Ultra series (S21 Ultra, Note 20 Ultra) are also good.
Huawei has godlike cameras, but they cost an arm and a leg, and they don't have proper (sometimes any) Google Play support.
I mean, if you get a tripod, it helps a ton of course. But it can't fix a very bad phone camera. OnePlus cameras are bad. Even the 9 Pro camera is "bad". Bad compared to any other flagship brand. If you are on a budget, Pixel 4a series might be OK, but they don't produce high res pictures.
