Stock Rom and Boot Loader For NextBook Ares 8 NXA8QC116 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First I would like to apologize. I am a complete and total "NOOB" when it come to tablets and phones as well as Rom's and Custom Recovery. I have a NextBook Ares 8 NXA8QC116 and I have looked all over the web, into all the forums as well as contacted the makers of this tablet to no avail. all links are dead and the makers of this tablet do not and I repeat do not provide any more the Stock Roms/Recovery/Boot loaders Img's for this tablet. I am looking for the Stock Roms/Recovery/Boot Loaders Img's in an Unaltered/Untouched state "5.1.1 Lollipop final version or 5.1.1 with ota's". I would be very grateful if someone could provide them.
I would Like to restore my tablet which came with "5.0 Lollipop""I forgot to make a back up of 5.0" and possibly try my hand at creating a stripped down version lite version with mini Gaps. It would seem that all development for this model table has stopped.
please feel free to contact me.
Thank you for your understanding.

Which ROM for hdx7

Hi there!
i am new to the kindle tablets and on looking into this branch of xda
i am confused as i dont know which ROM i can use.
to make it short: i want a stock Android on my hdx7.
thanks und cheers
el loco
As far as i know there os only one Rom available here, called hdx nexus. Should be stock Android. I actually cant flash it for testing, because i have a wrong software version installed. If someone knows how to downgrade from 13.3.2.5 to 13.3.2.4 please post a link/tutorial or something like that.
I'm in the same situation as Arthuro88. My HDX 7 is running Fire OS 4.5.1 and I can't use the root technique I found (or towelroot). Has anyone found a way to root this version yet?
I got one of the last, apparently old, HDX's in the store. Luckily for me it had the older firmware on it and I knew better than to register it with Amazon right out of the box. I rooted the device, installed Safestrap, and then realized that Nexus 2.0.1 required a new rev of the firmware. So I upgraded *manually* to the mid-release firmware (the newest older version that was still rootable), hit it with Towel to root it, and flashed it to Nexus 2.0.1. All in all it is a VERY nice ROM. It works extremely well, and has only crashed on me once. My problem with it is that it doesn't support the 4G/LTE radio in my version of the HDX. To be clear: the WiFi works fine, but not the cellular carrier signal I'm getting charged for monthly.
So again- go with Nexus 2.0.1.
As for me, my original plan was to get Kali Linux running on my HDX. I'm shelving that for now and trying to port Firefox OS (Mozilla's Linux-based OS for phones and tablets) to the HDX. None of the "Big Brother" crap from Amazon (FireOS) or Google (Android). Plus it's completely open for development and all apps are basically Javascript_HTML5/CSS since it's web-oriented in its philosophy. I'd post a link but I'm still under my 10 post count. If anyone is interested in helping with the porting project I have a thread already started on this forum.

[Q] Lollipop for Asus TF103c?

Hi all
Just got myself an Asus TF103C and have been looking at other posts here like http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/asus-transformer-pad-tf103c-tablet-root-t2802995/page5
which helped me to root it.
However I have been reading elsewhere that perhaps a custom Lollipop ROM would help things work a bit smoother.
I have found a couple of pages which claim to outline a method taken from the pages of XDA (although I am so far unable to find it on here) and linking to file downloads that seem a bit suspect:
http://www.rom-lollipop.org/mp3-0/asus-transformer-pad-tf103c-6409.html
and here:
http://lollipop500.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/upgradeupdate-transformer-pad-tf103c-to.html
Can anyone please advise me if these are likely to be legitimate or otherwise?
Many Thanks!

I think it's a fake. the first link promote a payment for download a file, the second is removed.
BTW I'm interest too to use a different room for my tf103c, but it seem that no ROM are available. I wonder if someway could disprove me.
Kind regards,
Luigi
I also think that it is a bogus rom.
I would like to get a new rom as well . I have the device rooted, but have been unable to get flash to work. I also cannot mount network locations. I think a new rom would lift the limitations set by this Asus rom.
PS- I have the Zenfone with a similar interface . I like it on my zenfone 5, not so much on this tablet.

I'm also interested in getting stock Lollipop on my tf103c (k010). I don't know what asus did to make kitkat so buggy, I don't remember it crashing apps as much as the asus load does.

I will like to have a custom rom as well. How would I go about porting one? I will love to learn on how to develop one.
I will look arround XDA although I have no idea where to start.
first you need to unlock bootloader, because you cannot flash custom kernel, only kernel signed using asus keys.
if you dont need other kernel for your rom, you must flash system partition, with root you have acess to system, but how d you want to flash system when you running another yet? i mean, you can acces system only when phone is running this system, becuse fastoot and recovery accepts only asus signed files.

All my efforts to make it where in vain also, theplatform i really old and it's an mediatek
I lack several custom made asus kernel /plat drivers to make a working KK based kernel ...

can i update to lollipop?

Found a Prestige 7 time to experiment.

Greetings:
Brought this thread over here since i posted it in the wrong forum:
I found an old Visual Land Prestige 7g in my sisters house. I was thinking of converting it into a remote control BUT now I would like to know if it would be possible to load it with a android 5 or 6 ROM and use it for games and movie viewing for my grandson. Yes pokemon go for him grrrr. Anyway, i have searched some days but there is no definite successful way on these forums to do this. I have tried several tools to root it to no avail (vroot, iroot, oneclickroot, seapod). I also read somewhere it is already rooted but the apps say otherwise. I would like to be pointed to the right direction, or if anyone has done it to explain, what tools i can use to do a recovery or a straight ROM flash to simply wipe the whole factory crap and obsolete system and load either a stock android version or a custom ROM version so the tablet is not so slow and laggy and becomes usable once again. Maybe a ROM that works for the same kernel and build number.
This is what happens when one finds a piece of hardware and a freak like me wants to get the best out of it, its a compulsion. By teh way, i am not the most expert person but i can handle my own, just don't go into a very complex or advanced discussion on tablet or phone things to do. Thanks for any help.
model number: prestige 7G
Android version : 4.1.1
Kernel Version: 3.0.8+
Build Number: JRO03C.20130731.V006
As of today i have tried several methods to root this little machine and nothing has worked. I have tried more rooting programs and applications than the north Koreans against the south Koreans(seriously). I would have thought that after quite some years it would be a breeze to root this, but hell no. There not even a clockwork for it that works. Anyways, couldn't even find an image to flash it with on any of the forums, most of the links are broken anyways. Well thanks for any help to feed my curiousity and as always really cool site and people in here (me included hehehe)

Any CWM/TWRP porting tool for MT6580 but 5.1/Lollipop?

Even the auto-search after entering thread title returned only threads with 0 replies...
So i have some no-brand chinese MT6580 running Lollipop 5.1 - not KitKat.
All the automatic and semi-automatic recovery porting tools work only for GB/JB/KK
Sadly the MT6580 kernel source was never leaked, so no compiling also.
Any way to get anything working? i would be even happy with a non-Touch CR...
Bumping this one as I am also looking for a way to port TWRP to my Galaxy S7 clone. And yes, it seems that none of the recovery porting tools seem to work on my end either. :/

I've hacked together a TWRP image for a FiGO "Virtue 2", 512MB, 8GB, MT6580, 5.1 but it is larger than the upload limit so I can not attach it for you. It seems to work with the possible exception thus far of not finding OTG storage, an issue which shall not keep me up at night. Installs, backs up, recovers ..... so far so good.
DISCLAIMER: As everyone says, use at your own risk. If the aliens come and take away your house pets or you experience any other device related or coincidental calamity of any kind, there's nothing I can, should, or will do about it.
Used the Carliv Image Kitchen, my stock recovery image, a TWRP image I found for an Infinix "Hot 2" and the general procedure found at this URL
http://www.xposedgeek.net/how-to-port-philzctrcwmtwrp-recovery-to-your-phone/
If you have the flash stuff for your factory build like I did it is probably a piece of cake, because I am pretty new at this sort of thing and if it can be screwed up I usually can find the way to do so. Took about an hour including thinking time before hitting the button. I was either brave or stupid and didn't even set up a virtual test first, but it works :cyclops: The Almighty must approve of my actions at some level.
Proceed with appropriate caution.
Hope that helps.

The lack of OTG support is indeed something of a shame, but at least this is something. Thanks for the tip mate!
EDIT: OK, so I managed to port TWRP to my device. Only problem is that I had to fiddle with the partitions, and for some reason there seems to be no other way to flip the screen back other than compiling another TWRP image or google my way through a compatible prebuilt by some kid online. I'll post my flipped-screen version ASAP when I get to compile that thing myself.
Sorry for the double-post, but here's the source-built port I made for inverted framebuffers:
https://github.com/huckleberrypie/android_device_alps_z6u030
I made it for clone devices in mind, but feel free to port or fork this in case you need to use this on your phone.
