Network lock with update? - T-Mobile LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there fellows, i'll try to make my question simple. My uncle got a new phone so he threw away his old one which i took, its an LG V10 H901 its T-Mobile if i'm not mistaken, Anyways I'm out of Canada for a long time now and the phone is fully unlocked and runs on all the networks i was able to test, but its running android lollipop and i really upgrade to nougat, but from a previous experience with a Galaxy S6, upgrading just like that might lock back the network, and i have no idea if its the same case for this V10 too, as i am not in Canada anymore even contacting T-Mobile won't be that easy at all (tried before), so what i wanna know is, will the network get locked if i upgrade the Android ? as i'm going to do it manually since i can't receive OTA outside the region.
All informations are appreciated, and thanks in advance.
Edit: In T-mobile website where i enter the IMEI to see if my device is illegible for unlocking i got a congratulations saying my device can be unlocked.
- Also, The phone is rooted so my guess the bootloader should be unlocked right ? (Stock recovery btw). Now the weird part about that is that when i try to reboot to fastboot/bootloader from Terminal/ ADB/ Volume Down And USB/ Application With Root, there is no fastboot or bootloader i guess, i even found a similar post on the forums here but no answer for it too!
Now my guess that flashing the KDZ will flash all partitions and fix it but i am still afraid of the carrier lock!

In general, once a phone is unlocked, it stays unlocked forever as long as it disables the sim lock check in the phone and updating the software or doing factory reset doesn't change that. From what I have read and researched previously, the sim unlock status is stored and enforced via a certain partition on phone for example, in some phones it is nvram or nv data partition, the same partition that stores phone's IMEI number as well. It is not likely that you will loose sim unlock status just by updating to nougat.
But do keep in mind that that some of the LG V10 H901 T-Mobile versions have a korean motherboard where LG Bridge tries to update it with the wrong version of the rom bricking the phone, and people have reported here on XDA that even after unbricking they lost their IMEI info from the phone permanently and phone modem stops working.
I would suggest that you make sure which sub-variant of the H901 you have before you attempt to do any flashing, especially through LG UP.
I personally just bought a used H901 myself and was trying to decide if my phone is one of the ones with korean motherboard.

[FIX] Phone permanently locked, Hard lock

Introduction
I bought an AT&T LG Optimus G E970(1) on Ebay and I though it was asking my SIM code, so I put it 4 times and it got a hard lock:
"This phone is permanently locked and can not be unlocked"
I tried to find some kind of information about unlocking it but I was unsuccessful. I tryed flashing roms or restoring factory etc but nothing worked.
Even thinking was not really a hardware problem I though I can sell it for parts and buy another, because there was not any solution.
A kind of solution:
As I said I bought another E970(2) and I unlock it, in the process I make a backup of efs files and that gave me an idea.
I used the 3 files of my new unlock E970(2)
/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/m9kefs1
/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/m9kefs2
/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/m9kefs3
on the E970(1) and it bypass the hard-lock (IDK how is it made, but is not matter) working as a new cellphone clone of E970(2).
The plan was to put E970(1) hard-locked efs on the E970(2), and since it's not hard-locked, unlock the imei and put it back on the E970(1) since if you put a unlock efs imei it bypass the hard-lock but I failed (by mistake I deleted the backups of E970(1) efs).
I don't know how to change the data of those archives or generate new ones (and I don't want to upload mine because I have now 2 clones) but I guess if someone could help with that.
I hope it can help.

Have you tried to do all that process without the SIM card? I'm guessing that is the SIM card that is locked. No? Too easy? xD
I don't get what do you mean, can you explain?
When you put any SIM card the phone will ask about the SIM PIN number, but after that it will ask the network unlock code, and if you fail X times it became permanently -hard- locked.
Even if you change the SIM, you have not any chance to unlock the phone (carrier free) anymore. No PUK etc.
You can check it with 2945#*970# >network lock.
Everytime you put a new SIM, the phone will reboot, reset the phone or flash it don't affect the hard-lock.
I made the process of restore EFS with and without the SIM card inside, but I didn't see any difference. (I don't know why would be any difference)
Anyway entering an unlocked IMEI works but I not sure if this restores the previous hard-lock state or simply bypasses it (Maybe the lock was not software but a kind of chip).

Seems like you don't know what the problem is. Did you read the threads I put above?
No, you can not solve it by just install a ROM, and LGNPST do not remove the lock (maybe data is in a hidden partition or maybe is hardware thing, kind of chip, IDK).
Once again, I'm not asking for help but saying how I managed to fix it. Since there was not any other solution.

I'm sorry because I can't provide my own files, but I hope somebody do it or... if you can get another phone you can simply copy those files.

Dear All,
MyLG Optimus E970 was factory unlocked and i bought it (in factory unlocked state) from US Ebay. I live in India. I was using it with India Airtel network without any constraint for past 2 months. Suddenly due to some messing up with its EFS or whatever (i dont know what i messed), it became hard-locked. Now, i cannot even unlock it by any purchased unlock code, since device shows message "This device is permanently blocked and cannot be unlocked". I tried Nexus conversion also, i converted successfully but of no use. The device is still hard-locked. Hence, i converted back to Optimus E970.
Now, i want guidance from all of you that what can i do to unlock it? Is there any way for me? or cell is waste piece? pls help....i have heard about Octopus box tool which can repair such case. But i am not able to find a single mobile shop here in Delhi India where i can get such repair person with Octopus Box. pls suggest what be solution to the mess that i have created for myself.....Any inputs will be appreciated.
btw, i tried restoring EFS etc, but of no use.

My SIM previously got locked and I was able to get it unlocked by phoning my provider. I'm not sure if it's your SIM, but if you do end up finding it is then contact your provider and they should be able to unlock it.

[Q] at&t hardware unlock

I bought an htc one m8 last week from a friend, seemed to be fully unlocked and tried many sims and worked perfectly. When i tried to update the phone (OTA) from 4.4.4 to lollipop the phone shows that its up to date. I contacted htc chat support and they requested my imei, they told me it's an at&t device and i have to wait for the update, I told them that the device is unlocked, they told me it's hardware locked and i have to wait for the update. I didn't hear of that before especially that i'm not from america, there is no anything referring to at&t, the phone doesn't have the at&t logo on the back and when it boots it doesn't show it. If it's really hardware locked is there any way to unlock it, or is there any way to install lollipop?
SIM unlock that allows you to use another carrier's SIM has nothing to do with how the updates roll out. The updates roll out based on the phone's CID (carrier ID) and model MID (model ID). The only way to change those is with sunshine s-off ($25 US). Otherwise, the HTC rep is correct in that AT&T has not rolled out the Lollipop update yet. And when they do, you won't get it OTA. You need to be connected to AT&T's network for that. But you will be able to update by downloading the RUU to a PC and updating that way.

H818p phone problems after MM update when phone is encrypted

Dear community,
when I updated my dual sim phone H818p (AME region) via OTA to MM - version v20c, I realized that phone calls and SMS messaging do not work after the phone is encrypted. When trying to take or receive a call no connection is established and the phone app gets stuck. Additionally SIM2 does not connect automatically to the network anymore. Interestingly, internet via phone providers still works on both SIMs. This phenomenon is reversible, in unencrypted mode everything works flawlessly. Since I need encryption for use as company phone I have a real problem here.
I meanwhile also tried to flash the new version v20d which was recently released in Europe, but encountered the same bug with this ROM. Also resetting the phone to factory settings or flashing the ROM in refurbish mode with full memory wipe did not change a thing.
LG support (I have to use Middle East because of the phone region AME) is not very helpful. They only offer help if I send the phone in and do not comment on the issue itself.
In case anyone has similar issues with MM on the H818p (or other phones of the LG G4 family), please let me know, especially if you have found a fix to this problem.
Back to Lollipop
Since nothing worked to solve my problem with any MM version of the H818p stock software, I wnet back to Lollipop via LGUP - v10l. Very disappointing that LG apparently distributes software via OTA which has such serious flaws.
Update: I am back to Android 6 via OTA. Via another entry I learned that the bug disappears, when deactivating the SIM-lock and restarting the phone. Now phone calls and SMS work normal again also while the phone is encrypted.

I cannot boot into fastboot (or recovery)

Hello, I have a LG G5 RS988. I've been fiddling with custom ROMs a bit trying to get the signal to be stable on AT&T. I had finally given up and was going to just try it stock rooted. I don't remember what order i took these actions, but the end result is that i cannot boot into fastboot mode or recovery mode (TWRP was installed but is now gone).
I believe my first attempt was to wipe -> flash [LG-RS98811d-Flashable.COMPLETE-ARB01]
I think this is where i encountered the bootloops and quit messing with it for a day or so. When i came back to it, i've tried literally everything i can find to do to get it back to stock.
I have used LGUP with the uppercut 1.0.0.0 file to 'upgrade' it back to RS98811c_00_ARB01.kdz or any other .kdz i could find. While i had it in fastboot i had attempted to flash some things, but it eventually wouldn't boot so i set it into download mode. Now i can boot into android 6.XX but i have no access to the fastboot screen. It just shows the battery charging percentage...
Please help.
I've already mentioned this in another thread, but you will have to send this in for repair. Flashing lower KDZ versions even with the same ARB version can hard brick your device. It can be repaired through the 'firehose' method that needs non-free proprietary firehose file, partition xml, and stock mbm/bin images. Or through the JTAG box method which is what I do. This model RS988 is the hardest to repair because it is uncommon unlike the other variants. You won't be able to fix it another way otherwise. Also AT&T blocks LTE access to non AT&T devices especially generic unlocked versions from Huawei, OnePlus, Google, and Xiaomi. Even if you do connect, you'll fall back to 3G/HSPA/HSDPA/HSPA+ when calling or temporary LTE loss, but can reset the radio by toggling airplane mode. If you check your IMEI through them it will show up as generic and you won't get LTE access through their whitelist. You could try to call them and explain this issue, and do insist, you should end up with a higherup tech support person that can add your phone to their list. I haven't tried this since I'm on TracFone an MVNO, so I doubt this will work, but it has for others. This LTE issue also happens for Verizon users, as they only like white-listed phones to use their network.

You could expect to pay around $50-70, but do read my dm. Don't purchase remote PC repair methods. They could install malware on your computer, and the USB client redirector may not work for a hard bricked phone.

LG V10 H90121j bricked after update through LGUP. Never reboot after 100% update!

LG V10 H90121j bricked after update which was successfully completed but phone does not turned on after that. I manage to unbrick through H90020w qfil and get access to update firmware screen. Now again every H901 kdz updated 100% but phone again bricks and not turning on. Please help me to restore my phone. I think I should unbrick with H901 qfil instead of H90020w. Please support.

Dear shan, sould have read these forums before updating, I had the same misfortune when i updated my v10 through LG bridge, chances are you have a refurbished phone like me, where the motherboard is of a different version/country/carrier than the software, I have a korean f600l which i came to know after bricking my phone, the only ,method to revive it is to use the h90020w method but it will convert your tmobile to AT&t with fingerprint , vpn issues, unable to uninstall apps and in extreme cases like mine no radio, but atleast it works that fine for me, but if you want to make calls then dont go for it, first identify your board then ask for help from other senior members ,or others who have the same model . andn please do update if you are successful so that others may benefit from your method.

hey, sorry for late reply. Thank you for your answer. I got solution but as you said, with no Radio, I cannot make calls. my imei shows only 0-17. I think my imei totally erased. my methode was to debrick with file H90021w and then flash with H90021w.dz file. I convert kdz file to dz file by using LG_Firmware_Extract_v1.2.6.1. these files are available on internet. I got my phone back to life but without network. Phone is booting with AT&T logo and working fine other then network issue.
can anyone help me with network issue now?
