Crooked/wavy scrolling - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

I had to sell my s2 9.7 because whilst using it in portrait mode when scrolling through text heavy web pages, there was a terrible crooked/wavy scrolling effect, like the text on the left side of the screen was scrolling slower than the right side of the screen, resulting in a crooked/wavy effect whilst scrolling...
It was horribly noticeable, just wonder if the s3 9.7 had the same issue,BTW it only occurred in portrait mode, not when in landscape mode...
Some users in the s2 9.7 thread seemed to think it was because they’d used a screen that was ONLY ment for landscape viewing, hence when in portrait it became faulty.
Loved the design and screen and light weight of the s2 9.7 and would love to buy the s3 9.7,but I’m weary of spending £600 on it if there’s a chance it suffers from the same problem..
Cheers for any feedback.

Yes, it seems the S2 screen is a native landscape screen. Samsung did something funky with the drivers to orient it to portrait for the S2.
When I compiled TWRP for it, it was necessary to use flip and rotate flags for the touchscreen to work correctly.
Not sure if I had to do this with the S3. Will have to check my config or if someone confirms what orientation the screen is in twrp?

For the S3 the orientation in twrp is landscape.

I'm guessing that means Samsung used the same screen for the S3.

Smooth Rotation of screens

Why we cant get the smooth rotation of screens from portrait to landscape same like in Apple Ipad 2? Now in samsung galaxy s2 it is jumping. And in contact screen, is it possible to smooth scroll in the top menu between contact, phone etc.?
Hello anybody can help on this?

Cause Apple would have sued Samsung for patent infridgement. Only Apple products are supposed to have smooth rotation and smooth scroll
Apple should want to go Hell. We need that. Nobody can have a technique to be as a patent owner. What about the Car, Aricrafts, etc.? shame to Apple.
It was there in Android 1.5, you could activate it through Spare Parts. But it hasn't worked ever since.
Bada has smooth rotation animations AFAIK.
It should be nice to have the smooth transition from P to L in 2.3.4...
Yeah, really big "nice-to-have"...
Are there any mods for other android phones phones out there, which can do smooth rotations?

Hopefully I can explain this...

when I'm reading web page, and I'm scrolling up or down, the tablet randomly ZOOMS right in to part of the page i'm on. Often to a section that I'm not even reading. Is this a known issue? Am I doing something wrong?
thanks, hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about cuz it's driving me crazy!!
This happens to me sometime, all I can say is that the touch screen is too sensitive, I have to make sure that my finger doesn't stay on the screen to long.
Yeah the screen seems to have a sensitivity issue.
I'm just sayin!

Can't say it'a an issue, this happens to ipad and Samsung Galaxy tablet as well when I tried my friends' devices. When you get used to your device, this will happen less.

Hopefully this is the case. Then I'll less likely feel this is a problem isolated to my unit.

The Sony S is super sensitive to quiver-fast double taps and finger jiggles (that you may not know you are doing.) Pretty sure that you'll get used to it and, even without thinking about it, simply adjust your browsing method. Takes a day or so to get beyond it.
Well, I've got my tablet for a few months now and I think every day that this is a pain in the ass. Regarding this issue I love the ipad. Or my galaxy s. Neither of them have this issue.

Did you put a screen protector on the screen without removing the factory one? I did at first and was having the same issue as you. Couldn't even type a message because it kept double tapping letters i was trying to type and scrolling while browsing sucked.
I took off the one I put on and just have the factory one now and, though it still happens some times, it is definitely better than it was before.

Yeah I had to do this same thing. The extra screen protector desensitized the hell out of tablet S. I've taken it off and it's much better, but still double taps at times on 1 tap.
I'm just sayin!

The salesman at the sony store put it on for me. So im not sure. I'd like to this he dd it properly.
I truly believe my tablet is defective. The problem I mentioned above plus horrible and slow scrolling, widgets disappearing, widgets freezing. Etc....
My tablet has been a lot better since I removed the protective film covering the screen. The cover was kinda thick. Now the colors are brighter and the viewing angle is better. I like the texture of the glass too.
I also don't notice the "ghost touches" that would happen right after I'd touch the screen, kind of like a double tap. Those were few and far between, but I've been enjoying my tablet sans protector enough, that this is just a bonus.
I'm not guaranteeing it, but this might fix your issue. You could also try replacing it with a thinner protector. My nook color's touchscreen was crazy without a protector, maybe this tablet is the opposite.
---
It also sounds like you could use a factory reset. I was having issues with my tablet being crappy and slow, and after doing a factory reset, freezing the unneeded apps (pretty much all of the Sony ones), disabling the media scanner, and applying the V6 supercharger script OOM values, my tablet has been pretty snappy.
I've been using the new Go Launcher HD home app in place of the default launcher which I froze (aka disabled the package).
Wait, there is a screen protector coming with the tab? I purchased the sony screen protector and put it on. So I've got two protectors on it?

Same with me, my tablet came with a free protector and the shop put it on for me. I am not sure if there is one already there as some insisted here but I have no sensitivity issue even if there are two screen protectors!
Yes it has a protector on it. It is very tough to keep the screen from getting cracked. To remove it, start at one of the corners with your fingernail. I used the bottom rounded corners to start. At first the screen will feel a little rough, but that's from the adhesive. Clean it with sone electronics spray and a microfiber cloth.
I like mine better with out it. The screen feels like glass now instead of plastic.
Yes..the tablet comes with a screen protector preinstalled which you can see if you look closely at the edge of the screen.

Here's a thread with pictures and info on how to remove the factory screen protector...

screen protector
I have the same touch sensitivity problems on my Tablet S (16GB WiFi) purchased in Singapore. Frequent hypersensitive touch behavior leading to random zooming and double taps, 'stickiness' in scrolling menus etc.
I read about the factory installed screen protector here on XDA but was unsuccessful in removing it...couldn't even get the edges to come off. Went down to the local Singapore Sony Service center and asked them to take a look at the hypersensitive touch issue...and what do you know...I couldn't reproduce it on the spot. Tried for 15 min, but the tablet behaved perfectly during the period . Couldn't convince the service tech that something was wrong.
Anyway, i asked them to remove the factory supplied screen protector and they said it should NOT be removed since it's not merely a protector, but a necessary part of the display for improving color reproduction and decreasing glare. Don't know if he was BSing me, but I left it at that. Note the image on this official website under the 'Sony’s amazing TruBlack™ display' section...
[EDIT: Looks like I cannot post a URL as a new user. Please check the Sony Singapore Tablet S official website]
I bought the official Sony screen protector (matte type) and had them install it. The sensitivity is much better now and the frequency of random zoom and double-tap has decreased drastically; but it's still there and pops up occasionally.
I am unsure of what to do next. Could it be a software issue? Among the browsers, I notice that it is most prominent/frequent in Opera Mobile. Occurs less frequently in the stock browser.
Today, I noticed that we have a possibility to set the sensibilty in our settings. Just go to input help (probably not the correct word... mine is german. It's the setting with the hand as a symbol). Within, there is a setting called something like touchscreen gestures. My tablet was default set to short. I changed it and now I don't experience the zoom issue anymore.

It's Touch n Hold Delay under Accessibility and default setting is Short.
I have no screen sensitivity problem on my tablet with extra screen protector on (I'm not sure if there is one factory installed on my tablet until today) so this function is useless to me
Hmm it seems that the touch and hold adjustment worked for me so far. Nice find!

[Q] used Galaxy tab 10.1 buying guide

Hi,
I want to swap my iPad with a Galaxy Tab 10.1, before i do this i need to know how i should examine the Tab before taking it. is there anything special about Galaxy tab 10.1 i should know ? are there many variations ? is there any know issues?
Plus, how can i make sure this tab does not have the oil slick problem?
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 can suffer with light bleed (as with any tablet) when light patches are around the screen, usually the corners. To check this, turn the brightness to full and see if it affects normal usage. Go on dark websites etc...)
Another issue is dust under the screen. To check this look at the screen in bright sunshine and see if you can see any specs when it is off. Also, when it is on see if you can see white spots on a black screen (or black spots on a white screen) as this could be dust or even a dead pixel.
To check if the tablet has oil slick turn it off and put it in bright sunlight. Sometimes they are invisible so be aware of that. Google 'newtons rings galaxy tab' to see what they look like.
Make sure the tab is solid and there is no creaking. Also, some people hate the lag when navigating menus, homescreens. This is Android not iOS and is far more capable, expect some lag with any Android tablet. Android lags because the UI isn't the priority.
Hope this helps

I also appreciate the info. I will be receiving a Galaxy Tab 10.1 from my sister in the next couple of weeks and it's good to know what to check for and how to do it.

Also, I would check to see if it's rooted, the flash count and what recovery and rom / kernel is installed on the tab. You can find the info in settings - about tablet. You can check the flash count by going into download mode (volume down and power until it reboots.

The flash count can still be zero even though the previous owner has flashed unsigned kernels, as they could have used CWM to flash them...

[Q] Touch sensitivity on galaxy s3 - modification

User of S3 i would appreciate if you can inform me whether there is any option to increase the touch sensitivity of S3. I read somewhere that ppl find it to be on a higher side but I find it less responsive. Anyway there should be an option that could reduce or increase the sensitivity or may be there is and I dont know about. Can anybody shed light on this
Dont think there is much toincrease. I did some tests on the touchscreen and it is the best screen I have ever seen.it's accurate up to one pixel and kids able to recognize up to ten different inputs.
Cause of the thinner glass of corning it's also more responsible than most other phones.the only thing that would increase the responsibility are better drivers.
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9300 mit Tapatalk 2
I'm also finding the touch sensitivity on the S3 a bit variable. Its super sensitive, almost overly so, over the back button area, so when I lean my thumb across the screen I frequently end up going back by accident. But sometimes when I touch other parts of the screen it just doesn't respond. At all. I have to try several times before it does anything.
It's worse in the browsers. I was using the stock browser but then added Dolphin to see if would help and its possibly not as bad, but is still a problem at times. It also happened yesterday when I was just killing time playing a game, which when you're in the middle of a game of jewels is just a tad irritating ;-).
I'm not new to the Galaxy S range. I had the first Galaxy s since July 2010 and my husband has the S2. So I know I'm not handling it wrong or anything.
Does anyone else have this problem? And is there not a way to adjust it? Or have I possibly got a faulty screen?
More of the same
I don't notice it too much but a friend of mine that also has an S3 says my touch-screen sensitivity is way higher than his... Could this be because I have ghost Armour and he doesn't?

mmmm it is pretty unlikely
I think they only need to decrease the sensitivity of the menu and back button but the touchscreen is perfect!

Lenovo Tab 3 Essential (8GB+Wifi) display aspect incorrect

I ordered the tablet from amazon and received it today, upon booting the tab, i find that the display aspect is a tiny bit incorrect, in portrait mode it looks like everything is taller, and in landscape mode, everything looks wider, is there any fix for this? android version is 5.0.1 and thats the latest update, when i look at youtube videos, the display seems to be fine, any help in this matter will be appreciated.. thanks
