Is sunshine still only way to s-off? - AT&T HTC One (M9)

I was wondering if sunshine was the only way to s-off this device or if anyone has posted another way? Thanks everyone for any info you may have.

Best root method?

So I'm trying to figure out which root is the best one to go with. Any recommendations? Did some reading on lazy panda s-off and I'm assuming it's the best if not only way to get s-off. Here is the software my phone is on. I just wanna make sure I meet the prerequisites before I attempt this lol.

I was reading that it needs to be stock 1.13? Is that hboot or software?

if you took the OTA then you are pretty much screwed and only have 1 option, HTC Unlock. you can use the Rawsomething method that makes it easy and automated, but no LazyPanda for you.

I flashed the radio when i was just unlocked last week, installed the freshrom that it refers to in the lazypanda thread and followed the instructions to the letter yesterday with no issues and now im s-off.
sweet! i saw so many people take the update, even PKMN rom asked if you wanted to apply the update.
I have hboot 1.12 so I should be okay right?

Yes, you haven't taken the OTA so you're fine

I noticed in the thread about LazyPanda s-off that there is a chance that u can brick the device? What's the probability of that happening?
Sent from my White Evo
It is unknown, but it is a temp brick and the unbricker has a 100% success rate.

If I'm already S-on Hboot 1.15 is there any reason not to update?

Im already rooted, unlocked and running CM10. Title says the rest......discuss.
You have every reason not to take the OTA update.

Rxpert, can you please send me in the directions to acheive S-Off since i to have 1.15 hboot? I've looked all around no luck yet. Is it posssible to acheive S-off because of the 1.15hboot since LazyPanda isn't an option?:good:
There is no s-off for hboot 1.15 yet.
The reason you should not take the OTA is because there is a new hboot, which means it will probably be a very long time before you can get s-off on 1.19.
If you can hold out awhile longer, s-off should be possible on 1.15, then you can do whatever you want, update radio, etc.

Cloaker, do you have any reference to back up that hboot 1.15 s-off should be possible? I can't find anyone that is working on it. I've read others saying LazyPanda are working on it, but can't find that either. Just that s-off isn't possible on hboot 1.15 as well.

I know what you know, but if you look at the evo 3d and most phones, the pattern is that the first hboot is cracked quickly, the next one soon after, and the third takes a while(at least a year). There are still plenty of devs that haven't upgraded to the LTE yet.
Also, since htc has updated hboot again, has led many to believe on this forum that HTC found an exploit in 1.15 and patched it. With the phone this new, I bet s-off will be achieved with 1.15 relatively soon. But again, no sources, just my possibly flawed logic.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
If anyone knew 100% that it would be possible to crack it would already be cracked.
We are making assumptions bbased on the fact that HTC released hboot 1.19. They don't usually do that unless it patches vulnerabilities used to gain S-OFF
Does anyone know WHY HTC doesn't want us to have s-off? Even if we void the warranty doing it through their method. I would be completely satisfied if HTC dev let me have s-off.

Because S-OFF gives you the ability to really screw things up. They are protecting you from yourself
I understand that logic, but at the same time I don't. If I want to mess up my phone, let me. If they don't want to cover it under warranty, I understand. But let me mess my phone up. Lol

The problem is its hard to prove your phone is rooted once its really bricked. So they end up replacing it under warranty anyways.

What if they let us get s-off by providing our serial numbers? It seems like it would benefit them to let us get s-off via them. Then they could blacklist our serial numbers, if we do it, there isn't much they can do because as you mentioned, it's hard to tell once it's bricked.

I'm 1.12 s-off. If I try to upgrade to 1.15 or above will I lose my s-off? Is there any reason or advantage to upgrade my hboot? I can update my boot, radios, roms etc with 1.12 so I can't understand why I would update. Explain please!

I can't think of any reason why you would, I think some roms might need it, but regardless, once you're s-off, it's permanent unless you actually try to go s-on through some dev's method.

I wonder if one reason they close the exploits as fast as they can, and the reason their unlocker wipes the phone, is a liability issue their lawyers told them to do. So nobody can do this to somebody else's phone and access "sensitive data" or something.

The wipe is a pretty standard unlocking procedure. The nexus's do that as well I believe. Its a security thing

How to get s-on?

Hi guys, going to sell the Evo LTE to someone and want to get s-on before the sale. How would I do so? Thanks in advance.

Probably not a good idea, since it would still be S-off. Could be a headache for the future owner if they aren't aware.
OP, if you used Lazy Panda to get S-off, check out the link below.

Otherwise, check the Development forum.

Why would you want to s-on? Chances are the buyer won't even know anything about it. And if they do realize then they'd probably appreciate it. Just my thoughts...

Easiest way to root HTC EVO 4G LTE?

I know there are a few methods but a lot of them are outdated. I need to root my Sprint HTC Evo 4g LTE. Can anyone help me out? I'm not a complete noob since i've already been able to s-off and root my HTC One SV but I it took me a long time and two soft-bricks to finally complete it. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks guys, love this forum.

The root method is the same regardless of Hboot or software version (use HTC Dev). S-off is a different story. Hit the top link in my sig for more info.
There is a section included on how to get to the bootloader menu, and from that you can determine which S-off method to use.

HTCDev or wait?

Should I unlock using HTCDev or will we see an alternative in the future? I would like to reclaim my warranty by restoring to stock if I need it rather than being screwed even if I restore to stock this is why I'm asking.

I'm personally going to wait for a few months. Something is bound to come out like it did for the HTC One M7 (rumrunner) that will allow root and S-OFF without HTCDev.
Also the thread referenced here is an answer for now. While temproot may not be available for AT&T M8s, I find it hard to believe that someone won't work on a way around unlock, root, S-Off without HTCDev.
I'm wondering....has anyone needed a phone exchange after rooting? When ever I've had a faulty device I just contact AT&T, tell my issues...they trouble shoot then send me a new phone with pre paid box to ship out my broken one. How will it be any different his go round?
