Data roaming problem - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Everyone please can someone assist me I got a new handset, its a Cell c branded android 7 dual 3G SIM device it says it has a Spreadtrum 7731c processor. My problem is when I activate roaming my phone connection roams and I can call on the other network, but as soon as I turn on the data roaming switch it turns itself off and as soon as you exit the screen when you go back you find network roaming de activated.
I contacted the service provider and have the correct Apn and have even returned the handset and got a brand new one and it is doing the same.
Any advise? If I take the sim out and put it in a another phone it roams on 3G perfect, were it won't on both of the new handsets I have had what can I do?
Thanks

Never had a 3G connection...I think?

Hey all,
Currently using an unbranded HTC Hero on Orange, unsure if I am getting a 3G connection though, icon wise I constantly have a "G" but unsure if it should show "3G" instead, also seen an "E" a couple of times which I assume is Edge but didn't know Orange supported it.
Just wondering if a 3G icon as such actually exists? If so could it be a setting somewhere I haven't got configured correctly?
Thanks
Russ
Could be 2 things.
You have use only 2G networks checked in the settings
OR
You need a new sim, although the phone supports 3G your sim needs to as well. If you are still using an old sim which was from a non 3G mobile then you need a new one. Contact your provider to ask them for a new one (you will keep your number).
how to REALLY find out whether you are connected with 3G? i mean not just looking for that 3G symbol ;-)

I had to do this a while back, if you have never bought a 3G phone from Orange you probably have a 2G SIM. Call them and they will send you a new one for free.
So I'm right in thinking there should be a 3G icon? I'll get onto them thanks
Well in a very strange turn of events I may actually benefit from this. Having called Orange to ask for a 3G SIM (they confirmed I had 2G) they basically said it wasn't possible to do a straight swap, something about contracts.
After a bit of complaining they have basically come to the conclusion that the only way to help me out is to restart my contract from scratch and send me out a new 3G handset along with the SIM.
So not only will I have my beloved Hero running on 3G I will also have an as yet unspecified 3G handset for sale!
Just waiting for them to call back
And the handset I will be getting...a HTC Touch 3G!
Should fetch a pretty penny
Thats really bull**** why can't they swap your sim card. i had vodafone sim card i lost it and went to vodafone they give me a new sim card directly 5 minuts later it was active. its very weird that they have to give you new contract.
thats ****in crazy! i'd not accept that!
Replacing like for like isn't an issue, it's because I need to "upgrade" the SIM card as such that they have a problem.
Still, works out nicely for me considering I was only 4 months into my contract and have a pretty sweet deal of £15 a month for 200 mins, unlimited txts and 500mb data. So no complaints that I have to restart my contract.

Cannot connect to network

Hi guys, noob here, just got my first android phone (been with blackberry till now).
I got a chinese X12 dual sim phone because i really needed only 1 phone (had to carry around 2 of them).
Phone works great, only problem is with the mobile networks. It can connect to GSM networks but it won't connect to a 3G network. The phone has 3G capabilities, 3G is enabled for the required sim, it finds the 3G network but it will not connect to it.
Sim works fine, had it in a Samsung i900 on 3G (WCDMA) - i live in Europe.
The thing that surprises me most is that the phone came with android 4.0 instead of the 2.3.6 it was advertised, could this be the problem?
Data Enabled ?! have access points ?!

yes, data is enabled on it, as for the access points it has them too (althought i am only trying to connect to the voice network, not the data network)
Tried one more thing which is wierd: the phone works ok with another 3G sim from another provider, but with the other sim it doesn't connect (but it finds the actual network). And the sim that won't connect works on my old phone (the samsung i900)
The first sim that works on 3G on my new phone is from Vodafone (and they have both GSM and WCDMA in my country), while the other sim that doesn't work is from a provider that only has 3G (for both voice and data).
Quick update:
i found out i also get an "error" : invalid IMEI for both sims - it was this way when i first got the phone...
really strange thing with this phone, in settings > about > it says android version 4.0 but when it starts it has the honeycomb logo...
would appreciate any help, if it's from the missing imei's that would be good (or bad, depending on how hard is that to fix).
You can call ##778# to get into those settings. But be careful, those can really screw up your phone if your not careful.
The only reason i can think of, is if your phone only supports certain UMTS bands, while your operator is using different ones. Check out this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands.
For example, my previous phone HTS Nexus One came in two versions - one for ATT(UMTS 850/1900/2100) and another for T-Mobile(UMTS AWS/900/2100). Both were GSM, both had 3G, but 3G would not work on another operator.

phone has only WCDMA 3G network - i tried it on different carriers (on 3G and not GSM) and it works fine, connects to 3G, it just won't connect to this specific network (although it finds the network there, so i guess it has the hardware to connect to it).
could this be from the lack of the IMEI ?
FIXED !!!!
Got it fixed, the problem was with the missing IMEI codes, put them back in, works like a charm.
I used the tutorial here:

Samsung s6edge plus sm-g928v 4g error

Hello friends .
I'm sorry I am writing because I english translation program .
I live in Turkey. S6edgeplus - 928v phone models came from abroad. but the phone does not open 4G - LTE in turkey. *#*#4636#*#* it says LTE ONLY do I do when the connection was severed, and the line was disconnected . I could not find a solution in turkey please help me . Thank you very much in advance
Go into setting then mobile network and set network mode to umts GSM lte. If you're trying to get 4g while on a call, I can't figure that out. It doesn't work for me neither when I use an att sim card in a Verizon phone. I can't get Internet while on a phone call.

Thank you for your interest . but according to my research yesterday 3-7-20 LTE bands in Europe . I do not have my phone with this band . I do wonder how do I install or installing the ? I use my phone that is not loaded
Same problem on tmobile on 5.0 I wonder if its a marshmallow problem too. IT only worked when i first switched from verizon to tmobile and had advanced calling enabled through verizon. Somehow it tricked tmobile or the phone into working with data and call? Since i did a factory reset though now with tmobile sim no luck Im waiting to update soon myself almost done downloading the update

Verizon V10 on AT&T Mobile data wont turn on

Hey guys, recently switched to AT&T from verizon 2 months ago. The guy at AT&T typed in the APNs and all is good besides poor reception at my house. Last night i turned off mobile data to see if my reception to send a text got better. Now I cant get mobile data to turn back on... It says add mobile service please contact customer service and gives the verizon customer service number. Any ideas on how i can get it back on? I've tried everything i can think of besides activating it on verizon again....
You might need to manually enter your APN since this is a Verizon device running on AT&T. Also if you are using an AT&T SIM you might need to input an IMEI for AT&T to get back on. These are the issues you run into trying to use CDMA/Unlock phone for one carrier (unlocked does not mean full functionality on all networks, if that was the case there would be only a single model of the V10) on a GSM carrier.

I did manually enter the APN... It senses not connected to VZW and then says to call VZW customer service... might have to activate on verizon again turn on data and switch sim?
The same exact thing happened to me a month ago
Go to: Settings>Backup & Reset>Network Settings Reset
it will turn your data back on by default but you might have to put your APN info back in
hope this helps
youre amazing!

Dual Sim Phone question Umidigi Power 3

I have purchased an Umidigi Power 3, I am having an interesting scenario and am interested in a technical answer as I can't seem to gleen anything from the research.
Using my Verizon sim in the phone is effortless. I have no problems making/receiving calls and/or data. As long as it is the solo sim, it will work in any of the two sim slots.
When I add a mint mobile sim (again at any slot), so long as the Verizon sim is the Mobile Data sim, Verizon works.
If I switch mobile data over to the MINT sim, the Verizon service doesn't even register to a network. It shows a 1x[FullBars]R in the status and any calls made on the Verizon service tells me that calls can not be completed as dialed. It's asked me to dial *611 which, if I do, just replays the same message. It does clearly state "Thanks for calling Verizon".
When I set the mobile network to Global, 1x, 3G, or LTE as well as the Roaming mode to "Home" nothing changes, only thing that does cause a change is if I set the roaming mode to "Home" and network type to "LTE". Then the bars never seem to register.
I've swapped the SIM to be safe, and this configuration works in my Oneplus 6t no problem.
Umidigi Power 3 seems to support all the bands, what could I be missing?
Thanks.

This is interesting. I think it's the apn not being set correctly. You might want to check if mint apn is set.
Also if you want to call mint, you'll need to switch calls to mint sim as well.
Sent from my SM-G985F using Tapatalk
Will look into it. Why do you think it could be the mint apn?
Did you ever resolve this? I had the same problem but with a FIDO data sim and a Shaw voice sim. All APN settings were correct but with the FIDO sim inserted I was unable to use the Shaw sim. Umidigi A7S
