Well, to be honest. I had two modules for Camera2 api. But for testing I've removed them both and now GCam is still working.
BUT.. I've also installed Google Framework and Google Lens Enabler. Maybe one of them is needed, or maybe it's just working after a reboot.
You may check your configuration with an app: Camera2 probe. My Gcam is working if it shows "Legacy" und Hardware Level Support Category

Which Gcam port are you using? I thought one would need a higher api support category for Gcam. For me it shows level 3 support but the app is crashing anyway.
I am using this one, it.'s quite old (3.2...) and I could not find the link, where I got it from
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nGTjxAUIfZtxI4SLUz3k5XZ31OiZH5kI/view?usp=drivesdk
After installation you've to hit once the camera button, than it should work

we are talking about miui 10!
I know, but what I mean is that you must try different models of phone and not all of them are functioning in our redmi.
The problem is the app crashes/hangs up when I open it. I'm not able to change any settings inside the app.

Edit: it seems like hdr+ isn't really working.
The latest mod from BSG works on our Axon 7 already.
Here's the link: MGCB_7.0H_C2API_Mid_v.3.6_AllinOne_Full_Manual.apk
Also, you still need to enable camera2api for this to work.
If you have magisk installed in your device, you can check my thread here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-camera2api-enabler-t3656651
There's also a fix there for slowmo on Gcam.
Update:
-added twrp flashable slowmo fix for Axon 7 (be sure you have a working twrp backup in case anything goes wrong with your device.)

just try out those settings.. I haven't played with it yet. When I tested this after I installed and took photos with gcam hdr+ and stock cam hdr, I think the stock is better.
For user with root but no magisk, it'is impossible?
Thanks for sharing this, and also for making the Magisk files to enable the camera2 API line and slow motion compatibility! Confirmed to be working with DARK ROM and Magisk v14.0. I haven't tried it against the stock camera from MiFavor yet, so can't report on the difference in image quality.

Dude, you have to install the MOD version of the A2017U ROM. The Chinese ROM camera does not have this option. You can find it here:

do you acutally see a different when enabling/disabling hdr+ vom main window button? I do not see any difference with your settings.
Acutally to enable hdr+ it's necessary to set support level override = NEXUS_2015. Then app will freeze regularely and I get Camera error "the camera device encoutered a fatal error"

It enables camera API2 if you put that string in build.prop.
Tested with Manual Camera, which won't work if you don't have API2.
I can't select 20Mp though
i know what it does hal3. i am saying that mate 10 pro have disable and on the cameraprob test the camera seems looked to limited.
i am asking if anyone rooted have try to unlock and take full functions of API 2 after enabling the HAL 3 .

And I did try. Though the Manual Camera compatibility test app shows the same result even with HAL3 disabled, it shows that api2 is fully functional.

Nothing at all changed.

The 20Mp in the huawei's app, it's a software feature, right ?
I've tried many roms with many camera apps but couldn't find one in which, portrait mode, hdr+ and slow motion(however slow motion isn't important for me at all) are working.
The best app that I found was the stock crdroid camera but neither does it have portrait mode plus it's hdr is very slow.
Can someone please provide me the best app that just works and has the features i mentioned above.

I think that your experience with the gcam mods might be determined by the camera sensor on your phone. I have a Samsung sensor, and most of the mods work reasonably well (sometimes you have to tweak the settings). I have stayed with Arnova8G2 v6. It does FC sometimes, but it mostly good. The settings can be tweaked for improvements over default settings ("Auto"), but not all of them work well. If you choose very high resolution HDR settings, the shutter will be very slow - but the picture will be very good. I don't really use the portrait mode, so I can't comment on that. Before Arnova8G2, I used Cstark27 mods - and they were excellent too. But I think Arnova has the edge.
In any case, you can have a look at this repository of gcam mods.

I don't know of a straightforward way of getting that information. You will need to search the forum for that.
The method that I use is not straightforward. It depends on initd functionality, and this is not generally available in ROMs. Basically, I run dmesg from an initd script, and redirect the output to a file. I then parse the file and look for any of these;
1. "ofilm_s5k3l8" (sensor=Samsung)
2. "ofilm_imx258" (sensor=Sony)
3. "qtech_ov13855" (sensor=Omnivision)
You can of course run dmesg at any time from a root terminal. However, you need to capture the output early enough (i.e., during the bootup process) or the values you are looking for would be long gone.
PS: I don't know much about Kernel Adiutor - but it may be that it can help you to run the command to capture the necessary information, even without initd functionality. Maybe someone else can speak to that.

I'm on arnova v6 now and it's perfect. The only problem is that the front camera is mirroring/reversing the pictures I take which is incredibly annoying. Do you guys know of a system-wide or app limited tweak that can disable this? Or perhaps an alternative to this gcam which has that feature but also.has portrait mode and HDR+ working.

In these apps when you take a picture from the front camera, it is saved as mirrored as compared to the camera preview screen when you're positioning tot take the picture (for e.g a face looking at the left comes as right or vice versa). There is an option in the miui camera settings to disable this and also on most other camera apps. I want to disable this here too.

Okay. It seems that I was able to replicate this issue though it was my rear camera which did it when I was using WhatsApp camera to take pics. Even I have the Sony IMX sensor and I currently run LineageOS Extended 15.1 where Camera2API is enabled by default. Seemingly WhatsApp camera doesn't inherit its properties thus giving such weird results. Try installing Xiaomi Mi A2 Camera from the Magisk Repo which works well.
[EDIT : I really don't know why GCam 6.1 does not comply with Camera2API when it actually should]
ok thanks

Hi
Thought I would post a list of gcams that seem to work really well on the TCL Plex
Simple one not many options
The dise
V1.2 now available and probably the best camera for the Plex, can now enable wide angle camera very stable no crashes during usage that I have experienced.

Tigr camera
Using version 6
Lots of options available on this camera the most advanced and stable wide angle camera also available
Only crashes is using zoom lens, best disable in options
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-tigr/#apk1617
Marco gcam
No wide angle camera very stable really nice features to set the XML files with it

Greatness GCAM
Fantastic camera one of the best I have seen supports wide angle camera a few tweaks needed

about the TCL Plex, what version do you use? have any config files? (i saw in the page that there are some kind of configurations for camera modes in xml files.. but the developer states that config files should be adapted to phone/camera models)
