Hello guys
I'm planning to get a lumia 800. Since I always use the phone as a music player with my westone, I would like to ask whose bought lumia 800:
1. How's the sound quality of lumia?
2. In what extent the improved sound quality with the firmware update? I read the review in GSMArena and shown a disappointing result

Audio quality
I am very disappointed with the audio quality.
If it was my only phone and I couldn't compare it to anything else I would probably think it's ok but yesterday in bed with my earphones on watching a youtube video I kept getting interference noise and the quality isn't as good as on my iPhone 4S.
Also I have tested both Lumia 800 and iPhone 4S sending audio via bluetooth to my car stereo (Nissan Connect) and the difference is shocking. The iPhone sounds as if the cable was plugged in and the quality is great but the Lumia makes it sounds like your listening to FM in a bad coverage area.
Don't worry about your english, it isn't my first language either.
If you really love your music I would recommend you stay away from the Lumia for now, also because battery doesn't last even a day. heh

I'm a Westone 3 user and the sound on my Lumia is beyond disastrous. I can totally confirm the GSMArena results. This was such a shocker to me when I first plugged my earphones I couldn't believe it.
Some users though report that their sound is fine (although it's difficult to sort out people who test sound on stock headset and such stuff).
I still haven't received the update, so don't know whether it helps or not.
But definitely try to test sound before buying this phone! I mean, here it's not just bad. It's totally ridiculously awful.
Soundwise you should look at three things:
1 call quality with phone earpiece
2 call quality with phone internal speaker
3 audio quality of internal speaker
4 audio quality to external device
5 mic
All have different character and should imo be included in a review. Furthermore audio is very difficult to objectively review as user experience is based on personal opinions.
anyway, my experiences with the Lumia are these:
1) call quality earpiece: normal phone calls in office, phone calls with a lot of background noise, and sound quality while in call are very ok, what you'd expect from Nokia. the volume level is okay too, the lowest setting is not too loud like on most phones.
2) call quality internal: okay, loud enough, not too much treble which is very please on prolonged phonecalls.
3) audio on internal speaker, what do you expect from a 3 mm driver in a very small cabinet. I think it's fine, not harsh, much treble and don't expect any bass.
4) audio to external:
a) tested on hi end phones, sounds very well, includes all frequencies, converters sound a bit flat but i'm sure most users won't notice.
b) bluetooth i had someone verifiy and this seems good quality
5) I had someone else call me with Lumia800 and this is as expected from Nokia
But, I'm a bit worried about "audio quality updates" like in the latest firmware. I'm sure they fiddle with algorithms, noise cancelling, auto volume, and minimal levels. I live with the philosophy that whatever is good, doesn't need to be changed.

That's a great philosophy, but it's obviously not good for all users. Whether an update can fix anything or this is a faulty batch of phones is another question.

Can't believe this. MANY users say the sound is awful and I can confirm it also. It just lacks MUCH low frequencies.
What is your HW version etc. ?
Many users have reported improved sound quality and better bass after update released yesterday.

I went to shop with my pair of hf5 and um2 to test the phone's demo (It still didn't release at my place.... sigh........ and the phone had not updated with the latest patch)
That's my experience
- NO BASS
- Other frequencies -> medicore
- Stereo is good, it felt like the music is surrounding you ( Better than my xperia pro )
- There are some noise when completed silent...
To be honest, I quite disappointed with lumia , its music performance (I should rephase it, lol) even cannot compete with 5800 3 years ago!
I miss my i9000 with voodoo sound... it is so hard to have a phone with nice looking , good music performance and not-a-iphone

I do not use equalizer, what i believe a good music player is simply deliver accurate output, pure frequency response is the best.
Let the earphone do the job, not the equalizer, that's what i believe, lol~

Actucally I live in Hong Kong and Meizu planned to release MX on 1.1.2012
In fact, I do have a bias on china-brand phone for its built quality, goodwill... I did not know how's the foreigners think about Meizu

so while typing this i listen to music using good, very good headphones. clean and crisp sound, bass included. no overkill in the bass but the frequency are definetely there. just don't use tiny in ear drivers to generate booming bass sound...
My in-ear beats headphones that came with my Sensation XL improve the sound output on the Lumia 10 fold. it's al about the headphones.
i have an a lumia 800 since 1 week and i am also pretty disappointed by the sound quality. there is no bass, even with the update :-(
i really like the phone, but this is a no-go because i hear a lot of music. if nokia diesn`t change this, i'll switch to an apple or samsung device.
i think we're running round in circles or that different phone users have different ears. however to the suggestion above of comparin hw rev numbers, noone replied.
Okay, I have finally replaced my unit and got one that has great audio quality. The difference is massive.
It has the same hardware revision number and everything is exactly the same, the IMEI is different by about 700, so they have been built in the same production run most probably. There's no way to tell apart from plugging in your earphones and testing for yourself.
Is there anyway to manually increase some frequency values?
It's frustrating as the Lumia 800 sounds great using my Denons, but the very low frequencies are flat, very flat.
I really hope there will be some fix for this because as a whole i like the device a lot and the music experience is great. That said music to me on the phone is easily on the top 3 features so it needs to work.
What do you think about the RN4(SD) audio quality? Bass? How clear is it? Is it loud? Ty for answers!

It's loud enough for music and gaming....
Though sometimes you can block the audio from the speaker while gaming or watching movie....

Sound quality of Rn4 [SD] is awesome. You'll get some pre-defined sound settings to set according to your headphone or ear phone. I've tested my Samsung earphone with standard setting and the output was awesome.

Hi I am Rupesh from India and I am searching for best android phone for music and found redmi note 4.
Previously I have used redmi h1s and the sound quality was very poor I mean the sound from external speakers and headphones was very low and so can I think note 4 also does the same.

Yes. "SD" stands for Snapdragon.
SD here, quality of the speaker is below average in my honest opinion in 2017, it is somewhat loud but quality is not good and forget bass. In headphones is the worst I remember using, there are some settings you can tweak to get a better sound quality but nothing major. If you want to get a phone for its audio capabilities don't get this one. Get a Htc or even a samsung...
For the first time I am hearing that redmi note 4 doesn't provide high quality sound. You have suggested that there are some tweaks and settings for obtaining high quality sound and so please suggest those settings or tweaks or atleast link which describes those.
I heard about sound mods like Dolby digital plus etc., which maximize sound quality and so please suggest about those. I also heard the term rockbox and so please suggest about it. Is it possible to install at a time two to three sound mods at a time.
Can you suggest best soundmods for redmi note 4.
I don't have used cheap devices before, this is my first cheap phone I buy New, my other phones were EX-flagship Used phones, I've had HTC, Sony, LG. And the quality of audio is way better on those phones. As of tweaks I'm talking about those build in inside on the settings of miui 8.
Install Viper audio and you're golden. My Note 4X has amazing sound via headphones with VIPER

LOL MAN . note 4x got a good amp with 24 bit dac . u just need a good headphone to listen . not a creepy one . its batter than even mi5
I recently bought Honor 10, the phone looks good and performs well, the thing is i'm a bass head ,i previously owned the ZTE's nubia z9 mini for 3 years ,its audio was great, bass was heavy and punchy and as far as i know it didn't had any dac and still it performs well( contains DTS equaliser). I was blinded by the 32-bit/192khz spec of honor 10, the sound is more clear when compared to the ZTE but i really like the nubia's bass (with sony's mdr xb55ap earphone).I googled about the honor 10 and some websites says it includes AKM's AK4376A with histen technology and after toying with 10's histen equaliser and its mega bass option and tens of music player and equaliser from play store,i couldn't get it to peform like nubia did,so is there anyway that i could do to make the 10 to perform as i wanted (more heavy bass, nubia owners might know what i'm talikng about)

Stock sounds are pretty low, but you can use the Mi headphone enhancements to amp up the audio and also use the equaliser to tune the music to your preference. It has the same amp as the Mi A2 (or A1 if you're very used it). The only phone able to surpass this on my audio Technica high impedence headphones is the LG G7 ThinQ, which is quite obvious. It isn't very extraordinaty, but nothing to complain about. Most reviewers don't check out all features and most of all, Xiaomi hasn't made it easy to find the enhancement settings

I own the phone and would be surprised if it really had the sane audio setup as the MiA1 or A2, may I request you to share the source of tbis information.
I own a LG V20 myself and the audio quad dac was the biggest reason I wasn't giving it up, already have the f1 too but knowing it has the audio capabilities will help me take the plunge of giving up V20

I have the Poco F1 and also the MiA1 and the MiA2 and the LG G7. This is my personal experience. But I got to say, don't go into the phone expecting extraordinaty sounds like more expensive phones. If you had already used MiA1 or A2, you would know exactly what to expect. It is nothing compared to the
LG and that's what I said earlier

Thanks for the response, and yeah certainly not expecting an experience at the level of LG's quad dac, but even something similar to MiA1 will be quite good
I tried it in my car using Bluetooth and output is pretty low. I had increase the volume to 15-16 to be able to hear anything.
I am planning to purchase POCO F1, and I am currently using Lenovo P2. I found it weird that in GSMArena review, the objective lab test numbers for audio are worse than that of Lenovo P2, when tested with headphones.
Now Lenovo P2 doesn't have a custom DAC as far as I know, and most probably be relying on SD625 embedded one.
1. So how can the above result of POCO F1 be correct, when it had SD845 Audio and POCO Claims it has a dedicated amp for 3.5mm jack as well as DiracHD tuning?
2. Or is there difference in output with the various modes in MIUI Headphone enhancements in settings?

Because Xiaomi didn't implement Snapdragon DAC into MIUI. If anyone need the DAC for High Impedance output, just try Neutron or Poweramp Music Player.
But, be careful, sometimes because Hi-Res output came from DAC directly, volume can be too loud. Reduce your media volume first before trying
Don't worry about the sound. Someone will make a good mod in a month. So be patient. Sound mods will arrive soon and utilize the SD845 sound properly
My mi5 sounded much better than this packing a snapdragon 820 very let down by the headphone jack quality it lacks all the punch in base and clear highs i got from my mi5 :[ยง hope someone makes a dac mod which enables the true potential of sd845

Yes I am using and this problem caused after recent update and Xiaomi- POCO INDIA AND GLOBAL told us via their twitter account that fix is coming soon.

I hope Dolby support in MIUI 10 would give us also the ability to drive higher impedance headphones.
I had Mi A1 which used to have that output until Xiaomi murdered its sound quality last May.
I tried a flac song on sennheiser hd598, and compared against my LG V20, the sound quality was good and closeto what my V20 drives, on the poco had to punp up the volume a bit though.
Not really an audiophile, but the audio output was not bad by any means.
I'm using the Pocophone F1 with Beyerdynamic dt770 pro 80 ohm headphones and even if quality is not perfect as my other phone (Vivo X21UD) volume is similar

Poweramp can also do it. Until now, only those 2 players that can output Hi-Res Output directly from Snapdragon DAC.

I read a lot of threads back when the Poco F1 was released and a lot of people complained about low volume of audio output from headphone jack and low clarity.
It is very hard to compare audio quality if you dont have 2 devices side by side.
So I request people who have the Poco F1 and some other phone like the Redmi Note Pro, Moto, Nokia etc to compare the volume and audio clarity.
If you have MIUI device use the same audio settings.
Can anyone please do this?

What about audio quality? Do you have any phone to compare side by side.
The internal speaker and loud and clear. It does seem to be a good bit better than my Mi Max on headphone jack. You shouldn't have a problem.

3.5 Headphone sound is low compared to other devices ..
For my part, I'm really impressed by the sound quality of this device (for the headphone jack at least, I don't use the speakers for music).
I'm currently using a Sennheiser Momentum (Circum-aural, M2 model). I listen to music with it on my Honor 5C (previous phone), my Asus laptop (which has a great headphone jack). I'd say that, for a mobile phone, it's one of the best jack output you can get - which is especially impressive given the price tag of this device.
The crosstalk is pretty good, though the instruments are not as separated and the sound stage not as clear as on my laptop. The only problem you may face with this output if you are using high-impedance headphones, because the Pocophone doesn't have a very good output power.

What is the best budget earphone (below 20$) that can be used with Poco F1?? (should have enough bass and loudness)
With my samsung OME earphones it sounds very dry
I have seen some reviews saying KZ ES4 is quite good for the price?
will that work well with the POCO F1?

I agree. Pocophone has one of the most impressive audio outputs I have ever had on a phone. Besides my Pocophone I have both an LG G7 and LG V10 so I know how well phone can sound with quality output. the Pocophone is really not too far behind them. That says something. Some people confuse audio quality with volume.
With Mi Sound Enhancer enabled with the right type of headphones it sounds very well and then you can further tweak it to your liking with the equalizer that is better than the one on LG phones. Very good spacious sound on the Pocophone.
