Mate 10 Pro Bootloader Questions - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Introduction - I believe Huawei owners including myself only have to the 24th of July to unlock the bootloader of their devices now right?
So my question is, does unlocking the bootloader on my Mate 10 Pro have any effect on the device as in with LG you get the warning screen on every boot or on Sony devices you lose DRM keys resulting in bad camera quality?,
At the moment I have no plans to root or install custom ROMs, but if it will no longer be possible after the 24th then I'd rather do it and have the option at a later date incase I change my mind, rather than be stuck wishing I'd done it when I had the chance.
Thanks for any feedback :highfive:

As long as u have your key to unlock you can unlock it whenever you want. You will get a message when you restart phone. And you can always relock.

So I can request my bootloader unlock key, and the use it whenever I want to, if at all, and the only noticeable difference would be a warning screen? It in no way affects any features at all?

Warning will only be there when you unlock it.
So if you only get the code you won't notice anything
No features are affected as it is now anyway.

So assuming I unlock it, I will only get the 1 warning and then that's it?, I'm only curious because on my LG, I'd get the warning on every boot, if no features are affected such as camera quality I'm definitely going to request it

Sorry, the warning will be there each boot after you unlock. But not by just requesting code. You have to unlock device in Fastboot. So just get the code and save it in case you want to unlock, or if you sell the device later you could give the code to the buyer.

Ahh okay, the same as my old LG device then, I'm glad Huawei don't make you lose any DRM's like Sony do, the worst thing about unlocking my Xperia was the terrible camera quality once the bootloader was unlocked

It works fine in camera at least. I haven't even tried the AI powered translation. This is with Magisk installed.

I knew only supersu affected AI in camera and translation, while Magisk had no effect on the system. But I may be wrong

Afaik there's no such thing as 'Bootloader unlock status'. What does 'Bootloader unlock allowed' say? Or does it say 'Bootloader Unlocked: Yes/No'?

There's nothing you can do. Maybe an exploit will be found to obtain root, but I think the earliest that might happen is with the Marshmallow release.

Yes, and even then. I would make a firm point of having bought the device to make use of the Sony Open Devices offerings. They can't really blame you that it took you more time than the return window to conclude that the device's bootloader cannot be unlocked. This is unusual to say the least. If they ask why you didn't check it right after you had bought it you can tell them you had to become familiar with this kind of stuff first or that you thought you made some mistake in the unlocking steps, while thinking the bootloader would be unlockable, and that troubleshooting took a lot of time. I think this is even actually what happened as well.
I think you have a fairly good position to succeed.

Only if there will be an exploit found with which you can obtain root. That bootloader status will stay the same, no matter the Android version.

ROOT and ROMs support?

Hello there.
I'm thinking about buying this phone, but I'd like to know:
1. Is it possible to root the phone? I haven't found any info on xda, but there is something here --> http://en.miui.com/thread-215325-1-1.html Can someone confirm that it works?
2. What about ROMs? I see that most of the Xiaomi devices have some (mi3/4 even have official CM support), here the section is empty. Is it not possible to develop ROMs for this device, or is it just a matter of time?
3. Is the bootloader locked?

Yes. This firmware saves me when the system is on my phone falls in the experiments. How to flash is here to see (only drivers easier are put, without such problems).
Or you can put the firmware via adb-interface. So I put my localized and tweaked version.
With unlocked bootloader yet like no one - Xiaomi needs to receive the approval to unlock. A request for this here (Xiaomi account needs).
Hi Guys, anybody succeeded in rooting v7.2.4.0?, i also need to know if there is a way to make google play as default app store
Think we'll need the global rom with no Chinese app store installed for Google to be a default.
Think either miui or xiaomi.eu sites there is a rooted latest version.... Not sure though

Need to pay ober 50$ for unlocking bootloader?!
I've asked this on the non pro version of the forum, no answer yet however.
How is a 3rd party service like that possible?
Did they find a way to reverse engineer the process of generating the unlock codes ?
Maybe... never Huawei again.
damn, I wanted to root my device just to migrate from my dead nexus 6p.
I'm on a Huawei Nexus 6P right now and if it wasn't for my bootloader being unlocked, I wouldn't have been able to work around the Bootloop of Death. The Mate 20 Pro looks great, but not being able to unlock the bootloader is a showstopper.
If someone uses this service with a Mate 20 Pro and unlocks, please post!

I'm pretty sure the person providing the service works for either Huawei or a third-party authorized repair center. Either way, they have access to Huawei's proprietary service software, which is capable of providing you with pretty much every code you could ever need.
That said, I don't understand how they stay in service though, as all it would take would be for Huawei to "buy" an unlock code from them, check their logs for who requested a code for that IMEI and shut their operation down.
u cant unlock the 20 Pros if its not a chinese version...
is it somehow possible to unlock the OEM button in the developer section?
i hoped for it with the update to 9.0.0.153, but still no success.
thx,
You can unlock the Bootloader via funky Huawei, .171 allows this in the dev options, then you pay $50 for the code. There you have it bootloader unlocked.
I'm on the OTA official .171 update and it has OEM Unlock available in Developer options.

ONE CLICK ROOTING TOOLS

Is there any one click rooting tools that work with Android 9 - 11? Preferably 10 - 11. I want to root my droid (I have an AT&T LG G8 Thinq) and I don't want to unlock my bootloader. Please don't say "C'mon dude just unlock your bootloader", I'm looking for an actual answer(s) here. Spyware or not. By one click root tool I mean something like a tool that you can press a or a few buttons and it roots your handset. Yes I'm aware many of great old ones are spyware.

It is possible to have LinageOS with a locked bootloader. You can relock it and revert back to stock recovery, so people can not flash anything to bypass your lock screen. This is very common for OnePlus devices. You can sell it and buy a OnePlus, throw your phone.
For example:

No, you just need a OnePlus device. OnePlus allows a self-signed signature, you can generate it yourself, and no leak is required.

But also did what you say work with LG and others. Or only OnePlus?
Sounds like OnePlus is an exception. And in the post you sent

Only works with some OnePlus devices. You can sign your ROM with your self-signed certificate. You can modify your ROM to whatever you want(including root) then just sign it, flash it, and re-lock. The bootloader now checks your self-signed certificate.
I don't think your needs can be fulfilled with your current device, maybe you have to sell your device.

So basically with a OnePlus I could just flash whatever I want and relock as long as the ROM is flashed LAST?
Also what's so hard about getting a signature? Why can't someone just pull it from the existing stockROM and put it on a their own ROM, so they can relock an Xperia or LG or something with a custom ROM?

Yes, and you also need to build and sign the ROM with your self-signed key and flash the custom key to the partition via the following
fastboot flash avb_custom_key

You can not simply use the prebuilt ROM downloaded from somewhere and re-lock, it will not work because it is not signed with your self-signed key.

lol, impossible. If what you said is possible, then SSL will be a piece of * because everyone can pull the signature simply by visiting a site. You need to learn what is "private key" and "public key". You need a "private key" to sign a thing and that private key is secret.
OK, so the solution is... Break into LG headquarters and obtain the key signatures and spread'em all for the world to see!
The less exciting options include infiltration or bribery...

Also with unlocked BL, can't someone just flash TWRP and delete security stuff to bypass the lockscreen?

I know , but I mean if it's NOT relocked!
get an oneplus device and that's all, one clicking root tools are unusable for a while..... or just unlock your bootloader (on AT&T you can't, i guess) . and after you wanna sell the phone, reflash stock ROM and RELOCK THE BOOTLOADER.
