Looking to replace Mipad with either Mipad 4/Mediapad M5/Ipad 2018 - Xiaomi Mi Pad Questions & Answers

I've been using my Mipad for years and it did serves me pretty good even in 2018.
But i have S7 edge, MI Max and Mipad with me most of the time which is not convenient.
Im looking to replace my MI Max and MIpad with a tablet that able to perform as below.
Phone call function (really hope mipad have this,it would be perfect!)
Good gaming like PUBG and etc
Nice sound quality for media consumption
Good battery life
My thought on each device:
MIpad 4, quite ok for my need but without phone call function. Gaming function is ok i guess.
Mediapad M5, almost beat Mipad 4 in every aspect except for development. Price is like 30% higher than MIpad 4. Its a phone too.
Ipad 2018, optimised device. But no phone calling function. Stuck at 32GB. Price 55% higher then MIpad 4 for LTE version.
Please do share your thoughts, appreciates your opinion.

Actually, there's an LTE version of the Mi Pad 4 - https://www.kimovil.com/en/where-to-buy-xiaomi-mi-pad-4-lte
According to the XDA article these are the bands supported:
LTE version:
FDD-LTE: Bands 1/3/5/7/8
TDD-LTE: Bands 34/38/39/40/41
(source: https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-pad-4-official-specifications-features/)

Xiaomi did mentioned its not able to use for calling function behind the box.
The Lte more like data connection only, just like an ipad.
And I can't find any info regarding of the device with 2G/3G connectivity capability.

Might want to consider the Chuwi Hi9 Air (10.1 inch) then or go for the soon-to-be-released Chuwi Hi9 Pro (8.4 inch). If you have any questions regarding the Hi9 Air, this would be the place to ask: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...wi-hi9-air-64gb-mt6797-x20-deca-core-t3775682
Another alternative is the soon-to-be-released Alldocube X, however, WiFi-only AFAIK.

Yea, was looking Hi9 Air today. Meets my requirements too. Just that 10.1 abit big for daily use. Hi9 pro not released yet?
Just checked Hi9 pro, 3g/32gb 5000 mah and 8mp/5mp looks like not worth to me.
Rather take the hi9 air...

Xiaomi Mi Max 6.44 inch phablet - a worthy X Ultra replacement?!

http://www.techtimes.com/articles/1...ts-specs-price-options-and-configurations.htm
Just saw this article about a new 6.44 display phone from Xiaomi......could be the Z Ultra replacement we've been waiting for?!? I like the 6.44 screen size, which has been perfect for me.
if it has onscreen buttons i would be very interested
but for now - Z Ultra
I think it is the first viable replacement for the Ultra. It provide 128 GB of storage + microSDXC, which is an excellent upgrade from the Ultra 16 GB. The AnTuTu scores for similar devices indicate a decent upgrade as well: around 80,000 which is a step forward but it is possible the 652 version will be even better.
The main question is 240 DPI operation and ROM development. Items such as softbuttons doesn't worry me since it is possible to enable them with the right ROM/tweaks. LTE bands are another question but I would assume a similar setup as the C6833 more or less.
I think the Max is the first device since the Ultra that can be considered a step forward in most aspects.
There is another contender in the works, though: ZTE Nubia X8, which promises up to 4K and a Snapdragon 823. It is worth to wait for it before making any final decision. As the situation is now with Sony probably out of the game (a Z3 TC successor would have been very interesting but nothing in that regard seems to exist and they failed to replace the Z4 Tablet), it seems like the only companies providing devices of the right category are Huawei (MediaPad/Max series), Xiaomi (Max) and ZTE (Nubia).
It seems to be a choice between a Huawei MediaPad X3/M3/P9 Max (i.e. new devices replacing the 2 series), Xiaomi Max or ZTE Nubia X8. Other brands seems to be stuck at 6 inches or smaller.

The only problem with the Mi Max is there are no LTE bands for the US. I was considering one as well. I replaced my ZU with a Mediapad X2 last year and it's still a great phone even without LTE here.
Look for vernee apollo. just for 299usd and you will get 10core cpu and 6gb ram and 128gb storage and 20mp camera.

I totally second this! There's something about the 6.4 inch screen that is perfect for everyday use and for watching videos. I can't imagine myself downsizing to a 6 inch phone.....my eyes literally get strained from watching videos on a 6 inch screen
The new Zen phone 3 ultra looks interesting too.

M-pen compatible with M5 8.4?

Does anyone know if
Huawei is planning on selling the M-pen separately?
Also is the M-pen compatible with the M5 8.4 inch?
I had trouble finding answers to these questions on Dr. Google
In Germany it's available for ~70€
Description says it's only for M5 10 Pro?!
https://www.amazon.de/dp/B079NG7GSL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_GuslBb3G42R3G
I just purchased the 8.4 Chinese LTE version. I'm willing to bet since the two models have the same operating system they also have the same accessory support. I can't imagine Huawei creating two separate versions of the OS to eliminate pen support.
When I receive my pen I will report.
No it's not compatible. It doesn't even work on the 10.8 non pro because they are missing the second digitizer which only the pro has.
This is one of the reasons for the pros price difference

Mediapad M5 or Xiaomi Mipad 4

I'm really thorn in between these 2 choices... Currently the Mipad 4 LTE variant is still not available in China... Considering if should wait for it or go with the Mediapad M5... Liked the dual speakers and the higher resolution on the M5 but the Mipad 4 price is hard to beat... Any advise ??
I end up cancel the LTE MIPAD 4 order (i guess no stock available) and buy M5. The price differrent is not alot for me as i order Mipad 4 from China compare to now buying M5 from my country), the different is approx 50-70 usd.
If you can live with the bluetooth wifi issue, M5 better choice which has better dual speakers in more ideal position (for landscape mode and sound quality), fingerprint reader. Mipad4 has slightly bigger battery, 3.5mm jack and more portable in term of the size.
Kirin960 vs SN660 ( no sure about this, antutu result show kirin960 slightly better)
OS wise no really sure, never use xiaomi and huawei, i hope both still can receive monthly security update at least for another 2 years.
Both are good tablets for me, i hope the bluetooth wifi issue wont bother me lot since i plan to use LTE network most of the time.
im not sure which one is better for me as well. I do not like the huawei android version and i do not like the mi pad 4 android version. So for custom roms i think the mi pad 4 will be better than the mediapad m5. BUT the mediapad m5 already got an unofficial version of lineageos which surprises me a lot. Not sure how many developers will grab the mi pad 4... So i might will wait some more time before i make my decision...
I will mainly use it for PDF reading and i am not sure if they are good for it, both have an aspect ratio of 16:10, i think. Not perfect for reading...
Not sure if the higher resolution of the m5 will have an impact on how the papers will look like. All the reviews, especially the chinese / asian ones, focus on gaming. It looks like all of them use it just for gaming...

Look here for Bluetooth wifi issue.. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-m5/help/wifi-speed-slow-bluetooth-t3767604
Conclusion they don't work well together. Poor wifi and poor Bluetooth..

So that's the reason I will not buy MediaPad M5.
Thank you so much for your quick replies.
Well if that's a bummer for you then find another. Samsung is mostlikely great and twice the price. Xiaomi may have the same issue.
Anyhow, the MediaPad is a really great and very affordable tablet. I like it.
People need to understand that the wifi/Bluetooth issue has been solved just use 5ghz frequency on wifi and they both work fine simultaneously!

Maybe people don't have 5ghz router. It is still a shame for Huawei Tablets to have such an issue. It is not a super cheap 100$ Chinese tablet.
I have no problems with bluetooth and wifi on 2.4ghz
Had the Mi Pad 4 for 2 days and got rid of it immediately. I would like to have the option to make calls. No luck with the Mi Pad. The face unlock is godawful on the Mi Pad 4. There is no fingerprint sensor, so you constantly need to swipe your unlock code. The Gboard keyboard does not support popup keys and the tablet does not vibrate. So there is no visual or haptic feedback to typing, really weird. It is fast, memory ist double compared to the Mediapad, the screen is ok, sound is ok but overall, the Mediapad beats the Mi Pad in every category. For media consumption you also have to live with no HD on Netflix and Prime. It's worth to shell out the extra Dollars for the much better overall experience.
Just buy a xiaomi mi router 3 (100m wam) (20$) or 4 (1gb wam) (30$) and connect it with 5ghz, seriously, 2,4ghz is kinda pointless at this point

Buying Oneplus 7T Pro in 2020

Hello All,
I am planning to buy oneplus 7t pro in upcoming sale. Is it worth going for? How is the custom from development support for this device ?
I know its already a year old device but if development support is good then I can expect at least till Android 13 for this device.
How is the device itself first ?

Custom rom support are not that great for 7tp.....but you will get android 13 for sure.. great phone ..better than op 8... only problem is less better camera than 8 series...and custom rom support is dying day by day... it's very unfortunate that Google is trying to take control over android security.. that's why 7t and 7t pro has no twrp with the ability to decrypt data in twrp recovery.so now it's you who has to take decision...

I bought the same model just a week ago because it was a great value today UNDER 600 dollars and it ticked all the boxes for what I basically wanted. I have a P30 Pro as well, and while I'd say it gets better battery life overall and that the camera can take better shots in SOME conditions, the gap isn't really that great. Most of the shots I've A/B with random people have chosen the OP7T Pro shots over the P30 Pro. It does get better brightness at night, but the details are lacking and seem over-processed. The P30 Pro definitely has a faster shutter.
After much deliberation I just received mines yesterday. I had a Mi 9 SE which was ghost touching on me so I had to change over asap. Figured I'd give OnePlus another go, I'd owned the one, the two, and now the 7t pro.
Really happy with the decision so far, just need to get used the massive size. Runs kinda hot tho, but that just maybe because I've been using it quite intensely for the last day or 2.
I'm happy with the decision.
I am also thinking of buying the 7T PRO or the Redmi K300 Pro ZOOM edition.
I am currently using a S8 PLUS and I would like a better camera.
I was supposed to get the S20 FE 5G but in my country Samsung only released the Exynos variant.

A better camera is more important to me than future software updates.

Haven't seen that model or used it, so I couldn't comment, but I can compare it to the P30 Pro I own. I'd say that the P30 camera is better in 70 percent of photo scenarios, but it does lack detail often. The P30 tends to over-sharpen images and smooth faces too much, even without portrait features on, whereas the OP7TPro does tend to have more noise in low-light, but produces a more accurate rendering of color and better fine detail, ironically.

I moved back to 7T Pro from OP8. It was a great decision in my opinion. I hated the punch hole. the 7T Pro checks all the boxes for me.

I'm also looking to buy a 7T Pro but I would like McLaren international edition for use in the US. Any one have any suggestion on where to get one in the US? If I was to buy a CN edition off Alibaba could I easily flash it to the international rom?
Planning to buy it also because it has nice hardware (no hole on the screen), and supports LineageOS.

If you want a device just like the 7T pro but with far more rom support as well as extended custom development, then Id go for the 7 Pro. Both are pretty much the same device, except youd be more satisifed with 7 Pro as it has a much larger community surrounding it and there's alot of things you can mod on the device without having to deal with the new android 10 dynamic partitioning that made TWRP not fully functional on the 7T pro
Wifi + bluetooth unstable connection
I bought the phone too.
So far everything is fine - except wifi stability issues (seems to be affected by bluetooth being on).
I don't understand how this still can be a thing. I read posts about this model having this problem a year ago.
How is this possible?
I did update the phone to the 10.0.12.HD01BA and tried all the suggested solutions (reseting network settings, switching airplane mode on and off.... one thing I haven't tried is factory reset) yet the problem still persist, it's occassional, but.... I'm still kind of disappointed.
For my part I had the 7pro and now I have the 7T pro and the 2 are very good ... I must say that I still have some frustration from the 7t pro, less good battery and twrp which is not 100% functional which gave me some headaches for the rest it is like the 7pro the best device i have had, for those who wonder why i got the 7 pro and the 7t pro? Between the 2 I decided to try the samsung note 10 plus ... but what a bad choice lolll and I had already sold my 7 pro so I wanted to try the 7T pro.
I have just bought OP7TPro today. It runs like a champ. Only not so good thing is camera. But GCam blew me way. Definitely a great buy if the price is right.

Faster, more secure, larger surface area, doesn't need to light up, thinner, just overall better, it's not exactly a must have but in a flagship at this price, it'd be nice to see

good point. sometimes the optical at night can be too bright.
Have to agree was looking forward to the X3 pro as an upgrade, but not overly excited to be honest...the Mi 11 seems better...

I've had the S21 Ultra 12Gb Exynos version for a week as a replacement for my Find X2 Pro. Gave my Find X2 Pro to my girl and regret it since.
Returned the S21 Ultra and got myself the Find X3 Pro and happy now!
The S21 Ultra turned me down in raw performance which was no where close to any SD888 device. Sure there's some major pros when it comes to the S21 U but same goes for the FX3Pro
I'm just glad to be back to Oppo
I'm glad to ear this i was buying the X3 pro yesterday (in replacement of my S10) please let me know when you have your X3 pro if it perform really better than the S21 ultra.

I've had it since a week and loving it every second. Performance is much better compared to the Exynos 2100 powered S21 Ultra.
The S21 Ultra holds 3 pros against de Find X3 Pro as far as they might concern anyone:
Zoom and 8K capabilities of the camera
Bigger battery ( though the X3 Pro seems to match battery life )
Bigger internal storage
For me these pros don't hold since I rarely use zoom and picture quality on the X3 Pro seems to be better
If battery drains a bit faster I'll just recharge the X3 Pro in a flash
I have a sufficient cloud drive so if my storage runs full I'll just move it there
For me the X3 Pro is the better option because it performs way better, charges faster and isn't as heavy and bulky as the S21 Ultra. A very well designed device which holds much easier and isn't that heavy
I've used the S21 Ultra for a week and at this point same goes for the Find X3 Pro
I wouldn't change back and I'm glad I switched

Yes exactly why I ordered my Find X3 Pro, all reviewers bark about the high price for the device but with this offer the value suddenly got a lot better. Also after latest firmware the device became a beast in performance. Now I know benchmarks don't tell the whole story but the Exynos powered S21 Ultra 16Gb only gave me 630000 points in Antutu. That seems like a serious difference in perrormance
