Wipe via fastboot via emergency USB under phone cover. Reflash. Must have service USB cable. Easiest way to do it - take to service.

Hey guys.
Here is the story ... I received my Redmi 3 Pro device back from the Xiaomi because it was sent there due to faulty camera. When I turned on the device it said This device is locked and there is a little button Activate this device. After that the screen shows that the device may be associated with existing Mi Account, which is my account. When I enter the password and tap on Activate I get an error saying Couldn't verify Mi Account ID. Can't connect to network.
How the hell can I connect to network if I even can't get past this screen.
Does anybody have an idea? I bought the device months ago and couldn't use it even for a day because it took them almost three months to replace the camera.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
BR
Try to use a sim card with mobile data and no pin. It should automatically connect to the internet and allow you to activate your phone.

Thanks ... worked like a charm
In my case it happened after disabling some stock Mi apps on an officially unlocked phone. Trying to connect would fail because the required dependencies were not available. The easy solution was to reboot into the twrp recovery and delete the file /data/system/users/0/package-restrictions.xml — the file gets recreated after boot with the default stock package restrictions.
Hi all,
My Redmi Note 4 (MTK) with stock ROM and MIUI 8 (presumably) had several continuous strange reboots and since then. It doesn't accept My password to unlock the phone. (I assume never changed the password myself)
I have Google and Mi accounts logged in on the phone and the device data encryption is ON. there are valuable data on my phone and don't want to get it unlocked in exchange for losing all the photos and data. I didn't find any way to unlock the device remotely via Google or Mi account which is a frustration.
How could I solve the problem?
P.S: I've seen a password resetter tool on an old topic in Mi forum which also is proposed for a different model (Note 3G). not sure if it could help. Should I try that? the Topic is here

If you are rooted and have twrp installed then try this

Thank you. I didn't install any third party recovery tool or root the device myself. However, root checker apps declared the device is rooted. I assume it's the default setting by Xiaomi and they've shipped the Redmi Note 4 device rooted?
Regarding the recovery tool, I'll enter into Mi's default recovery environment by pressing power + volume up. Could I do anything helpful there? like installing twrp
I had this same issue recently (three times in the space of 3 months)
I wish I'd seen this thread earlier as I just factory-reset. The 3rd tone it happened, I reverted to stock miui. I was using the modded aosp Rom at the time.

Vendors never ship devices with root access. Is your device second hand? Also did you notice having any app named supersu or magisk installed on your device earlier?
Currently you have miui recovery installed. You can only do a factory reset from there, but it would just wipe everything including data. And regarding all the tools you talked about. They require an unlocked bootloader. So inorder to not lose data and Remove password you need to unlock your bootloader and install twrp recovery. Here's the thread for it
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-4/development/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-root-t3717952
Note that getting unlock permission can take from 1 week to 3 weeks.
If you want to get your phone fixed urgently then the best way is to visit a service centre. But then if you can wait for a week or so, you can fix your device yourself.
After twrp is installed then just follow the guide i linked above.

No my device wasn't second hand, Actually, it was somehow strange because some apps like a mobile bank app were stating that the device is rooted whereas some other apps didn't detect any root sign on the device. There isn't SuperSu or Magisk installed on the phone too.
I just applied for getting unlocking the phone (Although for my HTC phones in the past, just used some tools from here and get the bootloader unlocked. I don't know why it's not the case for the Redmi Note 4 -or Xiaomi phones may be- in general)
I also tried the Method II here (was expressed would work for the phones Without Recovery Installed) but got Permission denied error on adb shell for rm *.key command. (Maybe it's related to the locked bootloader?)
Thanks

Adb required usb debugging and computer to be authorised, so since your phone is locked you can't allow it. And adb won't be able to perform anything on miui on lockscreen.

Since my phone has the USB debugging enabled already and I've used it with my computer (the computer was authorized). I was able to back up my files on the phones memory via ADB with below command:
Code:
adb pull "sdcard/[Folder Name]" "Path/On/My Computer/To/BackUp"
After that, I've wiped out the phone remotely via Mi account. This way I just lost my SMS and call history, since hadn't synced them with Mi cloud account.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting my unlock permission from Xiaomi and install a custom recovery for future possible issues.
Hi All,
at the beginning I'll write a brief what happened. I'm using Xiaomi MI 5. Last week phone just turn off and after this I was unable to turn it on - no response. I started with checking battery contacts and after pushing plugs device turn on, but unfortunately in bootloop. I started to search for any information how to repair, so at first I tried to wipe all data by recovery mode, but it not helped. At next step I flashed phone with new firmawe - I had to do it by testpoints method, because bootloader is blocked and I was unable to unlock this since device is broken (as I saw in tutorial it's needed to bind device with account by Android which wasn't work obviously). Device with new firmware started to work but not recognizing any SIM card - I've checked in options an there is no IMEI. I found tutorial how to repair IMEI and for now I have ready QCN file to upgrade device by QPST software, but there is a problem with entering a phone in diagnostic mode. I used a code "*#*#717717#*#*" but I have a problem with part listed below, because it's demanding super user account:
"adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/sde28
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/sdf3
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/sdf5"
I don't have a root and for now it isn't possible to root device, because there is still blocked bootloader. I tried to unlock device since Android is working again but because there is no IMEI I get errors during binding, so i suppose it's impossible to do without IMEI.
In QPST device is only visible when it's in EDL mode by testpoints method, but I can't upload QCN file bacause I get error: Phone isn't in diagnostic mode.
So what I need for now is to enter device into diagnostic mode somehow and that's why I decided to make a new topic, because at first I've searched many forums and threads but I was unable to find working solution. Please help me if you have any ideas. Thanks!
Resolved
Hi all,
I've manage this problem.
This is how I succeed - maybe it will be helpful for someone
First of all I found a Thread with Mi 5 qualcolm diagnostic drivers. After installing these drivers device was recognized by QPST as in diagnostic mode. Unfortunately another problem came up. "Invalid command from device". I did quick research and it was related to broken EFS, so I needed reapair/reset EFS - but theorically it was impossible without root and for rooting device unlocked bootloader is needed (my is blocked). So finally I found a dial code for EFS reset:
*#*#25327337#*#*
It helped. After this all what I needed to do was to check box in QPST "Allow ESN mismatch" and it successfully wrote QCN file.
Now my IMEI is back
Regards
So, guys, my gf as a typical non geek gf managed to factory reset the phone and now she's unable to remember the log-in credentials in order to make it usable, so the phone is stuck on the familiar screen "this device is locked"
Phone is not hard bricked, is only locked by bootloader and the Xiaomi account.
Is this lock IMEI-based ? Is it bypass-able ?
Should I try to buy a dev acc and flash it through EDL - Test Point or it won't unlock unless we log-in with the bound account ?
Should I sell it to the local repair shop in order to be used for parts?
What should I do ?
Thanks in advance.
Login Mi.com , login, check your info (email, number and ID), If the phone ask ID, copy the ID from the account info. If password lost, reset password and put email. If it say can't connect network, flash ROM with miflash . There is many video on youtube. just search "Locked Mi Account" on youtube. And there is a guides on XDA guides.
final and simple solution?
flash the fastboot rom using miflash.
everything will be reset/ all data will be lost /phone will be factory reset
I tried flashing it but needs to log in to a dev account in order to flash it guys ... That's what I'm asking is that I'm aware of purchasing and flashing via fastboot and the whole procedure because of ANTI RB in my own Xiaomi, but will fastboot flashing via EDL and purchasing a dev account will solve the problem or it'll be flashed normally and when booted and connected to internet will lock up again??

you are just thinking to much... it doesnt ask dev account! simply flash the beryllium fastboot rom of atleast miui10.2.x global stable (2.6gb) via miflash tool released may2018. and skip the buttom LOCK from bottomRIGHT...
also
- poco don't have ARB Sh!t, so don't worry
- EDL cannot be done (unless you know how to remove the backpanel to short / test points and have authorize Xiaomi Account)

It won't flash because it needs edl authentication ... What I'm asking is that buying an authorized account will solve my problem or will successfully flash the phone and then ask again for mi account authentication...
I have the same issues, please tell me if you fix it ?
Hello,
I have a Redmi Note 4 Mediatek, bought in China. I used it till Q1 2018, after flashing a global rom (thanks to cofface tutorial on this forum).
I want to reset it but I forgot my mi account password and do not have anymore the phone number I used to create it. (shame on me, I didn't set email or phone recovery). I tried to ask for manual reset on Xiaomi website but it always get rejected (I don't know why). However I still remember my phone password so I can access the settings.
Then I wanted to reset it through TWRP, but I am unable to enter recovery mode, my display shows the device + a cable plugged in... and nothing happens...
I tried reflashing TWRP but it didn't change anything.
Any idea how I could solve this ?
Thank you for your help
