Charging LED is on but mobile is not charging - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

So I have redmi note 4 mido. Since last few days my phone isn't charging properly. Sometimes the led just blinks but the phone doesn't charge. And sometimes, the phone charges slowly (a notification shows charging slowly). I tried changing data cables and charger as well. I think there might be a problem with the charging port of the phone. Should I visit a service center?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

So when did you buy your phone actually? Did you unlock bootloader/flash custom roms, kernels and stuff or not yet?If you did not touch your phone yet and it is within the guarantee then the best you can do is to visit a service center. On the other hand if you messed with your phone we could possibly find if it is hardware or software related. Waiting for your answer

A116 Charging issue

For past few days, I'm facing this strange problem that the phone doesn't charge beyond a particular limit, and sometimes at all. When I plug in the charger, it displays 'Charging' but the battery level doesn't go up. I tried few things to understand where's the problem:
1.) I changed the charger and used the other ones (700mA, 500mA, USB charging with PC) and they worked well for a while, although slow charging, but afterwards the issue re-appeared and phone stopped charging even by them.
2.) I changed the battery, thinking it's a battery issue. The one that I got from a friend charged perfectly well with my own MMX charger for the first time, but now it's giving the same issue again and not charging beyond a particular level, say 40%, which will eventually come down and it won't charge at all.
I'm confused as what kind of problem it might be - hardware issue with the charging socket, charger/USB cable issue, or a firmware issue? Has anyone faced this problem till now wherein the their phone doesn't charge, even though it shows 'charging'? Please share what did you do to resolve it. I'm currently located at a remote place and cannot visit a service center.
how old is your device? if it's more than 9 months you might have to replace your battery. you could find it on ebay.

redmi note 3 charging fix
I too had the same problem and I tried flashing in fastboot and other things stated in internet. But I replaced charging port newly purchasing online. If your mobile is still in warranty period fix it in service center or replace it yourself. Check YouTube for how to replace charging port. You can buy charging port from eBay or Amazon or any other desired site. Check your phone has 24 or 30 pin in charging port board of your phone. Because Redmi has two variant. If you have any doubt just google it.

I don't think it's ROM or kernel,
I have the same issue.
It doesn't charge even in power OFF mode, and also with the STOCK ROM.
I changed the charger/cable. doesn't work.
I use an app called 'ampere' and it's saying the phone is discharging. but the cable is plugged.
probably it's the charging socket.

Had the same problem & solved it
Hi,
I had the same problem - when connecting the charger (any charger/laptop etc I tried) the phone started charging, then stopped and started charging randomly.
What I did: Open the phone, brushed the USB board, took dusk and dirt out of the USB port, and it works like a charm again.
I used this instruction video and followed the steps exactly, apart from taking out the USB board which isn't necessary if you only clean it. You will need some tools (most importantly a small screwdriver and an (old, used) toothbrush.
I'm a new user so I cannot post the link. Search on youtube for the video with the title: How to Replace Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Note 4 , Redmi 4A , Redmi 4 and Redmi 3s Carging port ( Pin )
Good luck.
I have solved this problem
Turn on USB debugging from developer mode then put your phone on charging for 1 full night in switched off mode ...
It will charge normally
.
.
.
Tell us if its work for u ... your feedback will help others
its work for me after researching for 3 days
If you guys are using fast charge or QC chargers with custom kernel, Sorry to say that charging and discharging randomly is because of that. You are gonna destroy zener diode which stabilize current passing thru it. If input current suppress 5V it will burn your zener and your device will completely stop charging. (Only working aftermath way is removing burnt diode)
I highly recommend you guys to stick with stock chargers. Or use kernel that limits its current to 2100mA (approx) (Agni kernel has it) to avoid damage to zener diode.
P.S:- Once you replace your USB board, I am pretty sure that you will face some serious network issue like most of users (those changed board) are facing.

Poco F1 is dead

Hi everyone, I got a poco f1 from a friend. He used it quite normally. The cellphone was off for about a month - it didn't work. After a month I tried to start it however unsuccessfully, poco f1 is dead, I tried to charge it but it can't. What could be a malfunction? Help if you know and thank you very much
First, try using a different charging cable and brick. If it doesn't charge, Check if it can be read using a computer or laptop. If it still doesn't work, then the issue may be the charging port. If that's the case, if you are still covered by warranty, then go to xiaomi store. If not covered, go to a proper technician.
Btw if the device can be read on a computer, then it may just be a boot issue. Just flash again.
Does the white charging led light up when it's on charge?
If not, have you tried leaving it on charge for an extended period?
I've had difficulties with phones in the past after batteries have fullly discharged - eg the Moto G5 had some battery protection "feature" that stopped it starting up if it thought the battery was fully discharged - it was a bit over sensitive so would sometimes assume the phone was fully discharged when it wasn't
Try leaving it on charge for 24 hours or so then holding down the power button for for at least 20 seconds with it still on charge
If you have no luck and the warranty is out, get to a repair shop (or disconnect and reconnect the battery if you're confident to open it up - for a while I was getting sporadic shutdowns with my F1, following which it wouldn't take any charge, the battery light staying off when plugged in. This was all fixed by tightening the screws securing the black motherboard plate, the cover which retains all the connectors - not sure why but it seemed something, I suspect the antenna connection, had come loose. Since doing this about 5 months ago I've had no further shutdowns and my phone is usable again, having been completely unreliable before)
One trick that worked on some old Nokia phones was to charge it plugged to a computer instead of plugged to a charger - but as said elsewhere, if the battery is completely dead, YMMV.
Also, try to press and hold the power button and while doing that, plug the phone to the charger and then release the power button.

I guess your battery is dead
I have same issue, however I think my one is a motherboard charging IC issue. Does anyone know a way I can get it cheap from India, as I’m in the UK. India have it for around 9999 rupees which is about £10(+international shipping). I’ve ordered a charging port replacement from AliExpress to see if that solves the problem. However I don’t think that will work. No idea how my motherboard got damaged in the first place. I replaced a cracked screen myself and the phone was working fine for a few weeks, then it stopped charging all of a sudden. My PC also detects it/can access files doesn’t charge it. A new battery powered powered on the phone but again didn’t charge. Tried different adapters and cables too. Any experts out there know whether this is a motherboard issue or just a charging port issue?
If the phone is OFF for a month, then it is probable that the battery has gone down to a point that the BMS has shut it down. The BMS won't allow you to charge the battery because, in its own assessment, the battery is dead. Best way to test this case is to have another Pocophone with a good battery (or just a new battery altogether), detach the cable from that and test on yours. This may or may not work but this is one of the easiest to test and a new battery is easy to acquire.

Before you do that, just try leaving it in charge for 24hrs as suggested above, though it does look rather as if the OP has nicked off so won't be using any of these sage words!

Battery Charging Issue Help

My redmi note 5 (ai version) appears to have a fault when charging which I am trying to figure out the issue behind. The phone is just over 12 months old. The charging indicator in the status bar goes between no charging, normal charging and fast charging mode whilst it is connect to the charger. The battery charge also appears to dissipate worse when the charger is connected. I have tried changing charger as well as cable but the same issue occurs. I have added a video of the issue whilst measuring the current to illustrate the issue I am having a little clearer.
Video of issue
The phone was initially factory reset but the issue persisted. I then replaced the old PCB charging board with a new one from eBay but still the same issue. The only thing that I can think the issue is related to now is the battery. Has anyone had any similar issues which could shed some light on this.
Yes im having same issue, tried all roms and everything. But charging keeps fluctuating because of that phone take 5-6hrs to get full charge.
Thanks for the reply.
Have you had any luck resolving the problem. I assume not. Have you tried getting in contact with Xiaomi at all ?

Battery Issue

Hello People,
I have started facing this weird problem with my Mi A3 yesterday that I only bought in June.
The problem is the phone does not charge. When connected the charger, it shows "Charging Slowly" and the battery percentage stays as it is. It has been plugged in for 8 hours now with no change in the battery percentage.
Ampere shows a charging current of 70mA while the same charger & cable on my wife's OnePlus shows 1800mA current. So it's not the charger! :crying:
I have tried a hard reset, I have tried 4 different charger & USB combinations, NOTHING WORKED.
Any help around this will be greatly appreciated!
I will be set back with 15K if I loose this phone
What about the charger in the box? Doesn't that work?
Sounds like a hardware problem to me. Try going to the customer care
Thank you for a quick response!
None of the chargers are working. I've tried stock, OnePlus Dash, Moto Turbo, Samsung, everything.
I guess, service center is the only thing that can help.
Update - Even when it is plugged in, it keeps discharging.:crying:
Sadly, service center is closed, I'm from Pune and the city is in a lockdown till tomorrow.
Update - After a lot of struggle to not to reset my phone and an extensive research, I have wiped my phone clean and viola!
The charging works, it still charges slowly, but that's not as slow it was earlier.
I remember it seeing on screen 8 days untill full charge!
Now it's 6 hours to full charge, even with a turbo charger, 15W.
I will keep digging and posting the updates here.
Thanks
Charging too slow... battery draining out fast
I am facing same issue with my mi A3 since yesterday. It is taking 8 hours for my phone to get fully charged also battery is draining out too fast. Seems like this issue arrived with July security update. Even I tried hard reset and several other chargers but issue still persists. Hope that Mi sends out bug fix soon.
Resolved!
I had to visit the service center within a month of purchase due to the above mentioned issues.
Apparently some electronic failure caused the connector to fail and stopped the phone getting charged up.
My device is under warranty and thanks to that, got the faulty parts replaced for free and within 2 hours.
Which hardware parts did they get to replace??, Also facing the same issue
