Emulation Quality on MediaPad M5 - Huawei MediaPad M5 Questions & Answers
On occasion I like to play emulators (e.g., NES.emu, Snes9x EX+, GBA.emu etc.) when I travel but, with the MediaPad M5 10.8, I have been experiencing issues in regards to frame drops (stuttering). If I enable 'Frame Skipping', the issue stops but the end result is jank.
I find this surprising as my prior tablet, the Tab S2 9.7, had a SD 652 CPU and could easily handle PPSSPP or ePSXe whereas the Kiron 960s with its Mali-G71 MP8 experiences hiccups on games like Super Mario Bros. It will run PPSSPP or ePSXe but again, like before, frame drops.
No other issues to report aside from this; video/sound playback are optimal (up to 1080P/24FPS/60FPS - but 1440P is a no go) and no overheating. Battery saver is off. I've toggled 'Smart Resolution' on and off without difference.
Has anyone else experienced something similar?

I love a bit of emulation me, so I'll have a go with PPSSPP tonight on my M5 8.4 SHT-W09. Any PSP games in particular that you've tried that cause you grief?
I haven't gamed heavily, but I recommend deleting Chrome and uninstalling updates to Android System Webview (or experiment with uninstalling updates to Chrome rather than getting rid of it). I saw general improvement from this - and some recommend this for smoother gaming on any Android device (Chrome, or Webview if Chrome is disabled, serves as a system process that is used by many apps, so glitchy or otherwise heavy updates cause issues system-wide).
If rooted you may be able to clock the gpu higher for specific apps. See this Mate 9 thread (Mate 9 shares the same cpu/gpu):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/mate9-takes-advantage-1ghz-gpu-t3601524
additionally go for the display options
try disabling smart resolution, fiddling around with the dpi in the development settings etc. I don't really play games a lot but cytus 2 and hearthstone are fine. Ark was a mess though

While I don't play emulation games, I think that many apps are written for SD only. I had came across a number of apps that cannot be installed on this tablet without sideloading and suspect that the CPU is the reason. This could cause the problems you are experiencing?

Thanks to everyone who followed up. Most appreciated!
I've been working away at this for a couple days now.
I've been using 3C Toolbox Pro to freeze unnecessary applications (including the ones previously suggested), used various governors and CPU configurations (all cores overclocked, all cores online etc), enabled GPU rendering, utilized smart resolution, disabled animations, disabled battery saver, have all ROMs running off internal (not external storage) and disabled several more broadcast receivers. I went so far to reset the tablet back to stock firmware and the results were the same.
So I'm thinking it's either a hardware issue, an incompatibility with EMUI or an issue with Huawei's implementation of Oreo.
I've already started a return with the Vendor so if the issue continues with the replacement, we can rule out hardware failure.

[Q] High CPU usage by a single app
Hi, I have a S2, rooted and still using stock ROM I ran a few games from gamesloft (eternal legacy, rainbow 6 HD) and the apps just hang. i also ran a facebook game and it also hang during these hang time, i notice that every time the CPU usage is very high (red font, > 40%) It is weird because these game (especially gamesloft) had been released to less superior hw spec phone and they are running without problems Example my friend's galaxy S 1 can run the eternal legacy which has theoritically half the computing power of S 2 Can anyone advice what can be the issue here?
i also encounterd this with "Heavy Gunner" and Gun "bros" he games are stuck and cpu utilization is 100%,no other apps online..thats sooo odd becuase i used to play this game in my brother's "Xperia Arc" with no problems at all.
[Q] Freeze / hang whilst gaming
My handset (stock Vodafone) will hang/freeze when gaming. Sort of. If I enable in-game sounds, it's almost guaranteed that within a few minutes, the display will freeze. Game music continues to play. The handset is still somewhat responsive, though if I hold the home button to bring up task manager, it can take between a couple of seconds and 10+ seconds for the window to display. When I manage to get through to task manager, the game task shows 80%+ CPU usage. I'm able to kill the task and the handset is usable again. This happens in every game and I've seen comments against certain games on the app store mentioning hangs/freezing/crashing on the SGS2. If I disable sounds, the problem never occurs. I can even enable in-game music, just not sound effects. I'm left wondering if there is a common handset fault, a software/OS fault, if maybe I just have a singularly faulty unit or if it's a whole lot of game developers using some common sound handling code that doesn't play well with the SGS2. Has anyone else experience of this? I've tried Googling and I have tried searching this forum, to no avail. Thanks.
You should post the names of the games you are playing. I didn't encounter any game that should freeze or hang because of sound.
Yes i too have been having this problem, and like you said, if you turn off sound in game, the game works fine. I have google'd it and a game developer has said that it may have something to do with the S2 sound system causing instabilities. Some games which are notorious for me is robo defence and guns n glory, cut the rope also freezes when i turn the taps in the game. Again turning off sound does allow game to be playable, but who wants to play games with no sounds. Trying to get on the phone with samsung if they know anything about it. Is anybody else having these problems 2? or can someone test playing these games.
I'm also having the same problem.. Coincidentally I also bought my handset from Vodafone. Could this be related to Vodafone only firmware? :/
SGS II Freezing My Galaxy S2 freezes when i play the game Cut the rope. the music remains playing. when i checked the RAM usage the game was using upto 55% ram.
This seems to be an issue with SoundPool on dual-core devices. Google is aware of the issue : http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=17623 As the offending API has been identified, I believe we can expect to see a patch soon. Vote on the issue to help prioritize it.
galaxy s2 freeze I've been havin the same problem with a game called fly boy and sometimes on google earth. google maps navigation and lattitude are fine and all other games are fine so far. I've noticed my cpu jumps about a lot even in stand by/idle mode. any ideas?
[Q] Force different rendering resolution in android apps
Is it possible to force specific apps to render themselves in smaller resolution than the native (device's) one and telling the device to rescale them? I'm talking specifically about old Gameloft games that don't work on new devices anymore due to no xhdpi support. I managed to run Modern Combat 2 on LG Nexus 4 (mako) but it has severe bugs with touch area and aiming that make the game unplayable. I wouldn't mind playing this game in lower resolution rescaled to fit the entire screen as long as it would actually work (MC2 has smoother gameplay than any other game in the series + smaller maps = better multiplayer experience when there is not much time to play). I hope that I didn't miss any identical threads when searching for them. I actually found one but it was pretty old and with no real solution. Thanks in advance :fingers-crossed:

Click to collapse you could use paranoid android rom which has options to change dpi per app. Theres also an app called xposed, which allows you to load a module to change the dpi of different apps.
FIX LAGS ON ANDROID for Top Eleven Manager
I haved same problems on my galaxy s2, s3, and now same problem with laging on xperia z. Then i go to developer options and tick force gpu rendering. App is now flying and there is no any lag. Please can developers fix this bug and make the game smooth ?
Regarding the lags I guess its not the problem with the app. At normal usage, there is very less work for graphics and so it never comes into play but when you are playing a graphic intensive game, it needs a lot of graphics and the phone cannot render the gpu. So when you enable force gpu rendering, it allocates more graphics support and also reduces the lags. You can try clearing RAM and Used applications before playing games and also switch off internet. Switching off internet reduces the advertisements on apps by which you can reduce some lagging. Hope it helps and it works.
Question FPS drop in scrolling in some apps
I got a new 12t pro but it lags when scrolling in some apps like app store and even i checked it with monitoring tools I tried everything and it preforms well in benchmarks and games can it be a faulty chip?
