Twice now in the last 40 minutes since updating to ICS my screen has locked up in a browser and in a game and then restarted itself..... anyone else?
UPDATE:
- Short and sweet so you don't have to read through 30 pages.
- If your Prime has this problem either
A.) Return to store for refund or exchange and pray you get a newer unit without the different hardware/firmware version
B.) Call ASUS RMA it and pray they can finally get something right.
C.) Sit on your hands while you wait to see if ASUS can somehow figure out a magical firmware patch that will play nice with both older and newer Primes..... all the while getting frustrated with a prime that can be used as a paper weight.
I recommend A I found a new prime from HHGregg and it works just fine and I am finally happy again but still pissed at ASUS for this huge quality control blunder.
update 1/31
here is exactly the reason you do not want to rma to Asus.

Everything has been running great for me. Maybe try rebooting Prime for a fresh start up. might fix it. mine hasn't locked up or anything.
Mine is locking up non stop. I can't even boot to the home screen most of the time. And when it does it'll lock up after a bit and go into more boot loops

Were any of you rooted before updating?

I can say that my TP is also restarting over and over again. I can't get anything done. Just got it in the mail today. Haven't touched it besides firmware updates.

May I wasn't will test further
Mine has been stable. The only FC I got was on engadget on their live feed from the nvidia presentation. Reopened the browser and everything was fine (including the engadget page).
I have been in both gmail and exchange, world of goo, tapatalk, newsrob, reddita, etc... with no problems.

Constant locking and rebooting here. Never rooted.
I've done the factory wipe twice. Still doing it.
This time I wiped and didnt sync with my Google account in case its some data thats being restored thats causing it.
Ive had no problems until the update
I updated to ICS last night and it rebooted at least 6 times in 1 hour. Couldn't take it anymore. I've only had the tablet for a week with no issues before update..Hope Asus didn't release a bad update...that would suck.
Thinking about doing a full data wipe and factory reset. Has anyone already tried this?
Just did it again with no apps loaded or anything. Every 20 minutes or so
I loved this tablet until now. I'm so frustrated
Mine's working OK, a few FCs but no reboots or lockups.
I had made a separate post this AM on this topic; but i have the same issue.
not rooted
never had a reboot or issue till last nights update
it boots and loads, i get in for about 1-5 mins and then it locks up and freezes for 10 seconds and does a quick book loop, then repeat.. over and over.
i have so many apps and settings i am dreading a factory reset, since it hasn't worked for anyone else i will hold off..
any other ideas?

was thinking maybe we should get our heads together and see if we have a common app or setting that is causing it.
but people have said they did a factory reset and it didn't fix it with no apps, so i am lost.

One clue I may have is that it only happens after the screen is unlocked.. if you leave the screen locked all day it won't reboot.
Once you unlock the screen its like a ticking time bomb. i've tried stopping all running services as well the second i unlock.
same here
same issue here
never rooted
never had issues
once upgraded constant reboots
also noticed google + force close every time.
i guess its not just 1 or 2 people....
hope asus will push another update soon

I can't seem to find a common thread among all of my experiments. I've wiped three times now (third time I got the message about upgrading and updating apps again, but it's still doing it), I've tried wiping and not using any Google accounts, I've tried using my Google account but not restoring, I've tried wiping data in all of my apps, I've tried killing all running services. I've removed my microSD card and it still happens. It also happened to me in all of the power modes. Actually, I haven't tried "power saver."
Seems to happen every 15-20 minutes, but I've also had it happen immediately after a reboot.
I wonder if it's due to the rumored overclock. I hope it's not a hardware issue.
Prior to the update I had zero issues with anything, including GPS or wifi.

yup i am in the same boat as you and have tried basically everything you have minus the reset. since it doesn't seem to be a solution I am going to hold off.
same thing happening with mine, tried the data wipes and resets. I'm at a loss

my latest attempt is turn on auto brightness and leave it in powersave mode.. its been up 5 mins.. which is a record today.
Probably due to the update not wiping system. Hopefully when ASUS upload the zip to the support site, you'll be able to sort it out. Could be a few days till that happens though.

I'm also trying it in powersave mode and it seems to be running better now. I'm about ten minutes in, currently streaming something in Netflix with no problems.
***And as I was typing that the thing rebooted again. Not tied to the power mode***
Just received a notice regarding new update available on my phone.
Looks like a fix for messaging application.
I am on rooted 5.1.1, did factory reset after upgraded to 5.1.1 and messaging (Sony, not Verizon version) seems to be working properly.
Anyone received same notice and installed the update?
screenshot attached
Confirming this too
I'm going to go ahead and plug along and see if I have any issues.

Wow, that was quick. KingRoot is still good. There might been something else in there, as altogether the phone is acting more responsive.
Anyone able to update? This is happening to me all day as I try to push "install now".
Yeah repprted the first night of the Lollipop update, tech told me one was coming, but that was quick. Now if we could just get Marshmallow in the next few weeks that would be great, not going to happen but fun to dream.
Both the phones got the update today no problem, just had to be on WiFi.
Not rooted.

I have done reset too but problem is still here
Please tell me what to do
Sorry for my bad English
I have same problem
Why no one is answering where experts are gone???
What android version are you on? You said you reset but did you full wipe? Might be good to Odin to a stock firmware or flash a custom ROM if you're interested. Mine literally never lags
---------- Post added at 08:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:42 PM ----------
One more thing, it isn't mkv files you're trying to play is it
yah i installed custom rom now every thing is fine i did before you answer but thanks for replay
I've been running my Redmi Note 2 with a custom rom from GlobeRom for a few months and it's been going great, the other day I switched off the phone to replace the battery and when I turned it back on it got stuck on a screen that I had never seen before, with a logo that said MR and "www[dot]multirom[dot]me" (I'm not supposed to post links; this site is down now apparently).
I tried to reboot a bunch of times and it always got stuck on the MR logo so in the end I had to use TWRP to do a factory reset. I did a complete wipe and installed another custom Globe Rom.
With the new rom it's giving me a lot of problems, apps will crash, sometimes it won't let me access the play store (says app not installed) and sometimes during rebooting it will still freeze at the MR logo. There are times when I feel the performance drop and there's some stuttering/frame drop.
What's going on with this phone? Where did this MR logo that I had never seen before come from? What can I do to make this phone usable again?
flash with miui 7 then use custom rom
---------- Post added at 02:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:34 PM ----------
with original battery can sustain 5 to 6 hours with moderate and heavy usage
i have same problem with you guys (my phone sometimes restart, and then stuck at the 'MR' logo)
i have re-installing that ROM 2 times yesterday.
i have used this rom since couple months ago, but i found this problem since a week ago.
I waited for the answer why my phone face that problem.
my ROM is Skinny Multirom 9.5.2.0
I have same problem.
Problem with the Google Play Store application. The last version that works and does not cause a long boot is 12.3.30
Maybe I missed a setting somewhere but I can't seem to find it. On all of my other phones the screen would shut off during a phone call when you held the phone to your ear, this one doesn't. Is there a setting I missed? I always have to swipe multiple screens to get back to the phone app because of this.
Thanks
My is doing the same things since the last update restarting the phone fixes the problem for a while

I've had this exact same problem for about 6 months now. I backed up my data. Reflashed the latest update after doing a complete factory. Worked ok for a month or so then back to the same problem. It's probably a compatibility issue on the oreo firmware.

Did you consider taking it to Samsung or Ubreak? If the sensor array is defective they'll catch on during their diagnostics. Another choice is to trade it in.
Hey man sorry for the late reply. I actually didnt think about that. I think it's a software issue though, because when I flash it and do a clear in recovery it works ok. I'm going to wait till pie comes out and do a cache, data clear in recovery after flashing the official pie. If issue still appears then I'll take it to samsung so they can run some tests on it.
