hi, this thread is for sharing your gcam pics (i know this doesn't help in development bla bla bla),
as the stock camera app is **** ,
if edited don't forget to mention the software and the mod you used?,
here is mine , sryy for low quality ,
i used lightroom (mobile) , and urikill mod
No edit, only HDR.
well without lightroom and only hdr , the one i took look like this , maybe i overdone the image with lightroom
To Ronda (Spain)
Just cropped for the first pic.
MGC_5.3.015_4 it was on July Oreo build.
One taken while moving on a ride, came out pretty good, haven't had much time to take any more
both shots are good,
we are sure lucky that gcam works at this capacity without root , this phone rocks, stock camera app is such a disappointment , only thing it offers is just a nice working pro mod
i never found such a colour full subject in my life

The stock app has been updated today with new features, will be interesting to compare them both again.
i think in the new update they just changed the ui?, mid-low light performance is scrap as ever ?,the setting at which the stock camera performs near to gcam is while using pro mod , keeping the iso at 100 and shutter speed from 1/8 to 2 (rest at auto) , 2 for extremely dark condition, 1/8 for lighting conditions above normal , u just have to keep ur hands steady u know

Here are two examples, the first one from updated stock camera, and the second from google camera.
I personally don´t see any difference now, it could be because of the condition of light in that moment, but anyway I will test it more later.
i cant see the pics, they are just crossed?
the two shot i took after the updating stock app, but both are from the new update , i just wanna experiment with the exposure settings (i m new to it),
hdr enhaced and another hdr effect on top through pics art?, hdr overload
check yk_____j on insta for gcam shots of n7+..all shots are from gcam n7+

Look at the background house in the corner for example. In Nokia app is blown out and in google cam is perfect and detailed. Hdr+ is for that, to have a bigger dinamic range.

And why u copied the name???
They are just great ?

Hey guys, I'm returning from a recent trip to iPhoneland and I'm looking for the camera app that's closest to keeping up with the iPhone's camera.
I'm running cm11 and so far the best I've found is this one here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2540030
This one takes a lot better pictures than the stock cm or the google camera from the play store, but it still lags behind the iPhone.
it's not about the camera app, it's about the hardware...
No camera app on LG G2 can match iPhone and/or Nokia just because of the camera hardware (sensor, lens,...) which is not that good on LG
To explore full benefits of LG camera hardware, you'll have to move to one of stock based roms and then try i.e. Xdabbeb camera...

Alright that's what I was kind of afraid of. I know that there is a limit to how good the camera is going to be but I was hoping I hadn't found it yet. There is a significant variation between the different camera apps I have tried. It's too bad we can't use the camera to its full potential on aosp based roms.
I would strongly disagree with what 60nine just said, but that's just me. The main issue is the stock "camera" app is kinda crappy and does way too much processing on the image data from the sensor. It's not the best image sensor that's ever been made, no, of course not, but it is quite a nice one especially with the OIS as part of the hardware.
Having said that, I personally use Mi2raw nowadays which allows me to capture pure raw image data from the G2 sensor and dumps it as a DNG (Adobe Digital Negative) file which I then transfer over to my laptop for editing/post processing using Photoshop.
If you want some examples of what the G2's camera is capable of, look here:
https://www.flickr.com/groups/[email protected]/pool/
You can find more info about Mi2raw (available on the Google Play Market, it's free) in the main thread for it and yes there's more pics too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/general/app-mi2raw-enables-capturing-real-raw-t2837089
Again, we're not dealing with the best image sensor ever made but I've been damned happy with the results I've been getting with my G2 because of Mi2raw (I just got this G2 like 3 weeks ago).
As far as other apps, I use Aviary (it was free a few days ago, with every single filter they had for free too so I grabbed it all and backed it up safely), PerfectlyClear which gave away their Android app for free last week (it's not too bad, actually), and Photoshop Express (which can load the DNG files directly on the G2 directly from Mi2raw for quick viewing).
There's also XCam LG which adds a lot of functionality to the G2 including giving it 4K video recording capability (just make sure to read the details in the thread):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2548974
XCam LG has a settings app to tweak it further located on the Play Market as well, it's worth the price if you need it.
For me personally I just use Mi2raw for most every picture I snap these days then do editing/PP work when I get back home, it's what works best for me at this time.
Hope this helps...
Try Cymera. It's free and has good editing tools. Drawbacks are that it takes a bit to load and is not too stable. It's the only camera app that focuses correctly and has a proper white balance!!!! The resolution is small 1 Megapixel?, but the image is sharper and better than any 13megapixel shot from other camera apps or stock.
Otherwise just take the stock LG camera app as a daily driver.

why would you disagree if its known that iPhone and Nokia use way better sensor and lenses? (and i'm not an iphone fanboy, far from that )
i didn't say that LG hardware is crap - i'm just saying that it's no match to those two... or to say it better - "close but no cigar"
Nokia & iPhone give much better low light images than LG (partly due to better sensor, partly due to smaller f-stop lens number which lets more light onto the sensor)
for comparison
LG G2 has F/2.4 lens < iphone/nokia use F/2.2 lens (smaller the f-stop, more light comes in)
Having said that, I personally use Mi2raw nowadays which allows me to capture pure raw image data from the G2 sensor and dumps it as a DNG (Adobe Digital Negative) file which I then transfer over to my laptop for editing/post processing using Photoshop.

i didn't mention mi2raw app on purpose because it's not for everyone... and since i'm a photo hobbyist and DSLR owner, it gives me a bit of real camera world in a mobile device...
and what i like about mi2raw (besides its raw capability) is that the photos taken with that app don't look "painted" or "blurred" because of too much noise reduction that other camera apps produce
mi2raw would be too complicated to use for an average user... but hey - it's free, and everyone can try it and see
everything else you wrote - i second...
+ Snapseed is an image app worth mentioning especially with its ambiance setting that gives an image a nice "bump" in every way if it's used correctly...
personally i'm currently "stuck" with mi2raw, xdabbeb's XCam (because of those extra options you mentioned) and google camera (because it's the best for panorama/sphere images)
cheers...

"a Better Camera" app is what I use on non stock Roms and it's very good. LG camera hardware is not that good? You make me laugh... Can IPhone camera record 4k?Does it have ois?
The only thing that iPhone is better at is the image processing. That's it. (period).
I use the G2's stock camera app on AICP. It's okay, but the images look washed out compared to my Optimus G.

Bulsh*t of the month/year? :fingers-crossed: Only way to reveal the potencial of any and I mean ANY camera HW is to shoot RAW only! You can say Lg stock camera is bad and I will agree but not talk about HW whenn you didnt see pure RAW data. Just look at the samples I shot with the best android camera for photo enthusiasts: Mi2raw camera which is capable of capturing pure DNG files without freaky Lg jpeg engine, which is IMHO the worst I ever seen. I took indoor photos on ISO400-800 so dont blame the small sensor of more noise, no such a small sensor will perform any better. Still great results in todays mobile photography. Even Xdabbed camera which is great contribution cannot match results from RAW data and personal approach for photography. One minute for one photo and the results are uncomparable.
Anyone tried porting the Pixelmaster camera app from the various Asus Zenfones? It takes really incredible low light photos by reducing resolution to 2 megapixels and it is awesome (the only reason I fell envious of my brother's otherwise mediocre zenfone 5). Check here too, someone had plans of porting but not sure what happened to him since... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2712403

again. it takes normal pics at full resolution, then there is a night mode which takes very very nice pics in dark situations at full resolution (better than almost any other phone out there) and then there is a special night mode that reduces pic resolution to 2 megapixels, but boy those night pics are the best I have ever seen.... Check this for example. and no worries about zenfone 5 camera being 8 megapixels. the zenfone 6 has 13 and same software...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_TPqwDYStI
so you still live in a world where more megapixels mean better images?
i.e. see why HTC went for lower mpx in its flagship devices...
about my "bullsh*t of the year"... do some reading and know some basics of the digital photography...
i never said that LG G2 camera is bad, read my post again & read hardware tech specs of the other devices...
i like the mi2raw app very much (see my posts there in the app thread) - it's the best thing that happened to this device considering the camera/photo...
and i think LG G2 camera hardware can do much more - especially on the strange "painted like" image compression effect which i hate so much...
i'd say - LG G2 is close, but no cigar

Because of RAW the G2 is one of the top android cameras, that is true. However, the flagship Lumia devices also shoot RAW.
Yes I know, iphone can shoot RAW too, so android is behind somehow...
60nine: Ive read everything you've written, thats why I had to react. I know a lot about photography, HW a more, so Im OK. Thanks. And about pixels, even 8Mpx iphone camera is worse than 16Mpx SGN4 camera so give me a break...HTCs cameras are the worst from the biggest flagship manufacturers. HTCs cameras lags of detail and lost every shootout with competition. And I will tell you something, you will need at least 2160p for viewing on upcoming 4K display devices...so now the pixels matters. I know that more pixels suffers from dynamic range and more noise, but it will be hidden in more Mpx photo with good postprocess. So if you find comparison between IP6 and LG G2 in RAW at same settings and same scene and IP6 will be better, youll have my respect and appologies.

i won't bother answering to a person who thinks more mpx means better images (on a same sized sensor), so cheers...

Hi guys
i made yesterday low light test with our device and the Note 9.
For our device i used latest bsg gcam v1b, stock cam and for Note 9 stock cam.
On Flickr you have photos and on YouTube you have video.
What do you think about?
Is Note 9 better or Mi8? Stock? Google camera?

You can say wich device took the picture closest real, also you didn't put mi8 or note9 on all pictures.

Great work! Thanks for the comparisons

Go with arnova's port. Seems to work best. Use the 6.1 version though as the 6.2 seems to be missing the option to switch from standard to wide cam (no tele option so far afaik). You will want to enable buffer fix and night sight 8.1 alternate mode to get rid of laggy viewfinder though. Ignore the load config thing as it doesn't work or just causes the app to fc.

edit: 6.1 version does switch to tele lens. use the long press switch option. Switch to tele by long pressing the gallery / thumb circle instead of the cam switch (which long press switches to wide). the cam switch changes colors - blue : standard, purple : wide, red : tele
Hello,
i'm very interested to buy the LG V40, but i need that at least one version of Gcam works well.
So, the Arnova's 6.1 works well on both cameras ( rear and front ) with HDR+ enabled ?
No lags or other problems ?
Gcam is better then stock Camera ?
Thanks to all !!

Yes, there are some quirks here n there but it generally works as it should. It does lag but the fixes in the app will sort those out. Alternatively you can use the cstark version. Also works but I find the arnova build switches lenses quicker.
Is it better? If you need to print them pix in humongous sizes, then yes. gCam has better detail retention than stock. If it's just for keeps and regular human sized prints, the LG one does the job fine. It's way faster and more responsive than a ported app. Only plus I can give the gCam over the LG one is NightSight. It's just simply better but also slower.

I've not found a Gcam Developer LG V40 owner, maybe a problem about solving lags, freezes and many other app problems .......
My wife use Gcam port on a Nokia 7 Plus ( Snapdragon 660 ), but is fast and stable.
I'd like to have a fast Gcam also on LG V40, i need a phone with wide angle camera and Microsd, and LG V40 seems perfect for me..... LG V30 has a good Gcam porting, but is older and with smallest camera sensors ...
What do you think about battery ? Is good enough to cover one day ?

I've using gCam ports for a while on multiple phones and now with the V40, I finally get the feeling that I don't need gCam that much anymore. With good light, the LG stock cam produces better pictures than a gCam port. They're better exposed and have more pleasing colors. Detail retention isn't a problem since I don't need to see every single Only reason it's still installed is for NighSight. Simply because the black magic google uses for it can't be beat.
Battery life isn't as good as the V30 but decent. Survives an entire day but with very little to spare at the end.

Hi Neocyke thanks for the reply
I'm not sure exactly which APK your referring to on the list (I'm assuming it's a 2019 one)
I'm in Peru ATM but live in Sydney, so I'm going to post lots of photo comparisons on here
Some in Iquitos and Cusco in Peru and also in Sydney
I'm going to compare 4 apps - the lgv30 with cstark pixel 2 gcam, LGV40 stock, and two other gcam mods for the LGV40
Again thanks for your help

Thank you for this info! This and learning to install the config file makes this an awesome port. EDIT: Is there a similar trick to choosing which front facing camera to use? I tried the same and it just changes it between front and back. Thanks!
The last post I found about this was from september, so can anyone tell me what's the best gcam mod so far?

I am using this:

I´ve tested 4 or 5 gcam mods so far, but really, the differences are very small. Most of them denoise the pictures too much, I prefer the more grainy pictures from the stock cam, they are showing more details in most of the pictures I´ve taken, in daylight and in low light situations.

is this mod accepting all four cameras (including frontal)? I can't test it right now

I´ve tested 4 or 5 gcam mods so far, but really, the differences are very small. Most of them denoise the pictures too much, I prefer the more grainy pictures from the stock cam, they are showing more details in most of the pictures I´ve taken, in daylight and in low light situations.

It's kinda sad to hear that. Do you remember any mod with not much denoise effect?
I think it is a good thing. So I don´t have to switch between two Cam Apps. Its all personal preference. If one likes the smooth, degrained and denoised pictures because they´re "looking better" on a small display, go ahead.
If it comes to details, white balance and which one is closer to what I see with my eyes, stock cam wins 9 out of 10 times - in MY eyes.
+1, tried a bunch of gcam mods and in the end dumped them all. I was not happy with post-processing and heavy details reduction. Probably ok for Instagram.
My only complaint about the stock cam is inconvenient UI especially in Pro mode.

Speaking of stock cam, is there a way to put up a 3x3 grid or any kind of grid at all?

In Settings there is "Show gridlines" checkbox. It enables 3x3 grid.

Thanks. I swear I've looked and somehow missed it.
i think the best gcam 6 mod is this:
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/changelog818/
And this on gcam 7 mod, has an insane tweak lib patcher, you can adjust sharpness, tone curve... its just amazing. Photos from front cam are not so good:

Nice. But I can't seem to find a way to enable the wide angle lens.
I have no idea how relevant this is (or up to date) but this may be a good place to discuss it. (Maybe there is some more info in the comments of the video?)
Hi everyone!
I just got my A3. Any progress on GCam vs Stock? There are SO many GCams..
Thanks!
I tried all that worked with the Mi A3 (upto v 7.3) but still preferred the stock cam. Yes, the UI for Pro sucks.
Gcam files are larger than stock and stock cam colours are realistic compared to gcam.
As title, what currently works best please?

For some reason none of the gcam I've tested face retouching doesn't work,if anyone of a version that does please let me know.thanks

Latest one I guess
Used to be a heavy user of gcam on my 7 pro. Even involved in testing of urnyx and arrnovas versions and testing of the official xml configs. But I must say I have come to barely use gcam on the 8 pro. The difference in the stock camera is absolutely massive. Color is more accurate, no more smudgy details, awb is better, no more exaggerated contrasts in greens, better skin tones. Only thing I find is that you need to tap and decrese exposures when faces are involved indoors. It still wants to boost the brightness if it detects face, which gives a too high ISO indoors and it kills details like hair etc. Guess it's preference, but I rather have some minor noise than no details.
I have some truly fantastic shots indoors of my kids in motion. Ofc you need to set shutter speed as with any camera if you dont want motion blur. But shutter lag is non existent.
Any Configs for the OP8Pro available yet?

Why do you really need to install a different camera? I mean I have one and I've used it once in the past 2 months. The reason being is the OnePlus 8 Pro camera takes phenomenal photos if you just know how to use it. For instance these pictures I'm posting below we're taking with the OnePlus 8 Pro original camera
Wanting a lesser camera would be like wanting to replace the 108 megapixel Samsung camera for a Gcam that cannot utilize 108 megapixels
@dgunn, nice photos!
for me, I installed GCam just to have a play around and see what the fuss is about. Have really used either much lately due to the whole #stayhomestaysafe situation with covid though
Gcam portrait and night mode is superior!

Stock OP camera app is phenomenal already, but I do think GCam is slightly better. Contrast and white balance is a bit better, colors are more true to life, night mode is way better (not that OP has a bad night mode), HDR is better, selfie camera is night and day better, sharpness is pretty much the same. Unfortunately I'm not aware of a way to enable 48mp shots, but honestly the 12mp photos you get are more than good enough.
With a magisk mod made for the 7 Pro, you can enable all 4 cameras to be used on the 8 Pro with GCam.
TL;DR: OP camera is great, but GCam is better. Most probably won't even notice much of a difference.
I'm very happy with OOS stock camera!
To me only the selfie is better in gcam. For the rest i prefer stock

Stock does a better job for me.
@CosMiiK how to Install that Magisk Mod? Is root needed for that?
is there an advantage for rooted users with gcam? Or is there no difference whether you're rooted or not?
@ArtVandelay2 looks like all lenses are useable with that Mod/root.
Can someone see if there stock camera zoom (3x zoom) has some issues?
Can you go into there Camera app and turn off Ultrashot HDR and Smart Content Detection and take a picture in 3x zoom mode and see if the image it comes out is normal to you or the same as what the viewfinder showed? Every photo I take it seems to overbrighten or the contrast is turned super high (even though the viewfinder looks fine).
It be nice if someone could help, i've been asking for the past 3 days ...
EDIT: FOUND THE FIX, seems to be EX kernel problem.

Seems to be a issue with all custom kernel even though theyve made no changes. Only way to fix it is by going to stock kernel.
