For some reason none of the gcam I've tested face retouching doesn't work,if anyone of a version that does please let me know.thanks

Latest one I guess
Used to be a heavy user of gcam on my 7 pro. Even involved in testing of urnyx and arrnovas versions and testing of the official xml configs. But I must say I have come to barely use gcam on the 8 pro. The difference in the stock camera is absolutely massive. Color is more accurate, no more smudgy details, awb is better, no more exaggerated contrasts in greens, better skin tones. Only thing I find is that you need to tap and decrese exposures when faces are involved indoors. It still wants to boost the brightness if it detects face, which gives a too high ISO indoors and it kills details like hair etc. Guess it's preference, but I rather have some minor noise than no details.
I have some truly fantastic shots indoors of my kids in motion. Ofc you need to set shutter speed as with any camera if you dont want motion blur. But shutter lag is non existent.
Any Configs for the OP8Pro available yet?

Why do you really need to install a different camera? I mean I have one and I've used it once in the past 2 months. The reason being is the OnePlus 8 Pro camera takes phenomenal photos if you just know how to use it. For instance these pictures I'm posting below we're taking with the OnePlus 8 Pro original camera
Wanting a lesser camera would be like wanting to replace the 108 megapixel Samsung camera for a Gcam that cannot utilize 108 megapixels
@dgunn, nice photos!
for me, I installed GCam just to have a play around and see what the fuss is about. Have really used either much lately due to the whole #stayhomestaysafe situation with covid though
Gcam portrait and night mode is superior!
Skickat från min IN2023 via Tapatalk
Stock OP camera app is phenomenal already, but I do think GCam is slightly better. Contrast and white balance is a bit better, colors are more true to life, night mode is way better (not that OP has a bad night mode), HDR is better, selfie camera is night and day better, sharpness is pretty much the same. Unfortunately I'm not aware of a way to enable 48mp shots, but honestly the 12mp photos you get are more than good enough.
With a magisk mod made for the 7 Pro, you can enable all 4 cameras to be used on the 8 Pro with GCam.
TL;DR: OP camera is great, but GCam is better. Most probably won't even notice much of a difference.
I'm very happy with OOS stock camera!
To me only the selfie is better in gcam. For the rest i prefer stock
Enviado desde mi IN2023 mediante Tapatalk
Stock does a better job for me.
@CosMiiK how to Install that Magisk Mod? Is root needed for that?
is there an advantage for rooted users with gcam? Or is there no difference whether you're rooted or not?
@ArtVandelay2 looks like all lenses are useable with that Mod/root.
Can someone see if there stock camera zoom (3x zoom) has some issues?
Can you go into there Camera app and turn off Ultrashot HDR and Smart Content Detection and take a picture in 3x zoom mode and see if the image it comes out is normal to you or the same as what the viewfinder showed? Every photo I take it seems to overbrighten or the contrast is turned super high (even though the viewfinder looks fine).
It be nice if someone could help, i've been asking for the past 3 days ...
EDIT: FOUND THE FIX, seems to be EX kernel problem.

Seems to be a issue with all custom kernel even though theyve made no changes. Only way to fix it is by going to stock kernel.

So well know that MIUI has a decent camera app and it works really great. But as it's a closed source app,**it's not possible to port for AOSP/LOS.
Now my question is,**Is Snapdragon camera a better alternative for MIUI stock camera ?
Though enabling camera api2 on snapdragon camera gives FC. And I didn't found any long exposer or full manual control**on Snapdragon camera.
Actually I wanna run AOSP but again I need a good camera.
So what should I do now ?

Works for me on both camera api v1 and v2...
Im interested in the comparison between miui cam app and the above camera app
i see people complaining that no camera is better than stock camera.. but for me stock camera is quite bad? aosp or snapdragon camera from above work wayy better
I overall prefer MIUI camera. It has clean interface with balanced features without much of any cons. Everything works well.
But for normal pictures Snapdragon Camera is good enough, may be even a bit better than MIUI or may be not (never properly compared). It is more or less on par with MIUI. However, one think I noted is that Snapdragon Camera v3 apk that is found here in a XDA thread for snapdragon camera...has some trouble with macro focus.....generally it works fine...but it had trouble focusing certain objects like a decorative fake flower in my house. It doesn't always perform bad in macro focusing. But the Snapdragon Camera that is the stock cameras in lineage OS, RR, Slim Rom (IIRC), AOSP rom (IIRC), works perfectly in that area....no issue focusing. However that camera again have a bug which is that preview pictures appears in portrait. Not a big deal but a bit annoying. Also many 3rd party cameras I found to be working fine in general situations but pictures with flash was not totally fine. But you find more manual control and ways to capture better non-flash pictures using certain 3rd party cameras. Snapdragon Cameras worked fine with flash. In case of videos, I don't know which is better...I am not much of a video person...just need something decent and snapdragon videos looked decent. But I found that the audio recording in the videos recorded from Snapdragon Camera were a bit low. But the audio was distinctively better in Footej Camera...(It may be better in other 3rd party cameras too).
I couldn't get HDR to work as good as in MIUI camera (though I haven't really investigated much in that area).
Snapdragon Camera HDR works but pictures appears a bit too bright for my taste.
And camera 2 works fine for me with snapdragon and other 3rd party cameras.
Using latest developer and stable Miui rom, I can say that stock camera performs better.
Snapdragon camera is awesome, I'm talking of the 3.0 release, you can tweaks a lots of parameters, but most of them still in Miui rom and probably in AOSP do not work properly.
Try for example the auto HDR, does not work well.
I've made a comparative of the same picture taken by those two camera, and stock Miui is better.
It's not a big deal, but it's clearly visible.

Manual Camera gives FC for me. Changed several rom but the result is same.
Camera on LOS/AOSP is good enough but those has more compression than stock.
Again stock has much noise reduction. It helps in low light.

Setting picture quality to 100% is well on good lighting conditions. But in low light there's so many noise.
I think 90% quality is standard.

Hmm IIRC, Manual Camera worked for me in most of the roms I tried.
Note: I think only recent miui dev versions (I can only speak for the 7.3.3.0 Xiaomi.eu) and Lineage OS (March 28 and the April (1 or 4 don't remember...are the only versions I have tried so I can't speak for other versions) have camera2api enabled by default. And if I am not wrong the latest RR is in that group too. At the very least I am pretty sure manual camera worked on March 28 Lineage OS version. And in roms which didn't support camera 2 by default, I could edit the build props and apparently some camera 2 api features were enabled in some apps (like manual camera compatibility test was passed, footej camera started showing iso and exposure time all of which wasn't happening before editing the build props). If you are on Lineage OS I don't know why manual camera isn't working for you.
While I haven't made any side by side comparisons, from my testing it didn't seem that the snapdragon camera (the stock version in Lineage OS and RR) were much more noisy compared to miui camera, when noise reduction is on (which is on by default anyway). Only I found that miui camera can make less noisy pictures in low light using HHT (I don't remember a good equivalent to that in snapdragon camera) but that also kind of softened the image. Sometimes I feel that in fact snapdragon camera might be slightly noisy but also sharper and more detailed compared to miui in low light. ..but I can't guarantee anything and I doubt these can be some form of placebo. Also if I am not wrong the stock snapdragon camera in LOS, RR lacked manual ISO, shutter speed control. While those options are available in other 3rd part cameras, all of them had problem with some macro focusing and flash again so I had to keep a lot of camera apps for different situations.

Thanks for such a reply.
Actually I tried almost all the popular ROM like LOS/RR/ASOP/AICP and Xiaomi.eu as well.
For my case Manual camera capabilities test is passed. Then I install Manual Camera and it works well. But when I press the shutter button it keeps Forced Stopping. Every single time in every single rom.
I even tried editing build.prop and the result is same. As a bonus I get front camera flipped as others.
For me Open Camera does the job well with all the controls and shooting RAW. The RAW isn't nearly good as compared to other camera api2 supported devices. Even after editing with Lightroom it doesn't look that much better as it should be.
So finally I gave up and trying to be happy with Stock Camera app.
I just wish Xiaomi will add camera api2 on MIUI9 as IMX298 is capable of it and many more.

I really have no idea why it's force closing for you. In OP you mentioned that even snap camera force closed on camera 2...that's strange too...especially when the newer Lineage OS roms supposedly have camera2 by default.
I still might have been mistaken in saying that manual camera worked for me, because I was trying lot of things in a short time....so I could have been confused about it...so just now, I again installed manual camera and took pictures with it.
Worked just fine. And right now I am in an 8.1.6.0 Xiaoum.eu (MM version not even the newer one. I enabled camera 2 by editing build props in this version i.e it wasn't even officially enabled yet still even in this rom manual camera worked).
Also, I just noticed your OP is old (13th March)...actually I got my MI 5 quite recently so I don't know but I think the camera 2 feature was being enabled in Lineage OS and RR recently (after 20th march or something, I am not sure.....in the Lineage OS thread, I think the dev mentioned about enabling camera 2 support around that time (I may be wrong about the time) and it's possible then Xiaomi enabled camera 2 by default only in recent developer (beta) roms.....so may be it had troubles in older ROMs, I don't know. Camera2api may still be not there in latest global (or china) stable...
Regardless I am still able to use manual camera in my MM Xiaomi.eu with edited build prop.
In the end I still just use the miui stock camera for now, not being any expert in camera department; I don't find much need for manual camera...I am more or less satisfied (improvements are always welcome, of course) with miui stock camera along with its auto HDR, HHT and manual controls. Never tested RAW though.
PS: For manual controls you may also try pro shot.

I have all most all the camera app.
Maybe I have a bad luck. Cus I was on RR on previous week.(latest version) Camera api2 was enabled and wroks fine with Open Camera and ProShot. The only problem is the Manual camera.( Probably to best handy camera.)
Used it on my Nexus 5 and it was amazing.
And Now I'm on MIUI 8.3 Beta (7.4.6) by xiaomi.eu
I update as soon as it appears. Always had the same problem. My variant is Mi5 3/64 White.
Anyway, Thanks for your replies.

hi, this thread is for sharing your gcam pics (i know this doesn't help in development bla bla bla),
as the stock camera app is **** ,
if edited don't forget to mention the software and the mod you used?,
here is mine , sryy for low quality ,
i used lightroom (mobile) , and urikill mod
No edit, only HDR.
well without lightroom and only hdr , the one i took look like this , maybe i overdone the image with lightroom
To Ronda (Spain)
Just cropped for the first pic.
MGC_5.3.015_4 it was on July Oreo build.
One taken while moving on a ride, came out pretty good, haven't had much time to take any more
both shots are good,
we are sure lucky that gcam works at this capacity without root , this phone rocks, stock camera app is such a disappointment , only thing it offers is just a nice working pro mod
i never found such a colour full subject in my life

The stock app has been updated today with new features, will be interesting to compare them both again.
i think in the new update they just changed the ui?, mid-low light performance is scrap as ever ?,the setting at which the stock camera performs near to gcam is while using pro mod , keeping the iso at 100 and shutter speed from 1/8 to 2 (rest at auto) , 2 for extremely dark condition, 1/8 for lighting conditions above normal , u just have to keep ur hands steady u know

Here are two examples, the first one from updated stock camera, and the second from google camera.
I personally don´t see any difference now, it could be because of the condition of light in that moment, but anyway I will test it more later.
i cant see the pics, they are just crossed?
the two shot i took after the updating stock app, but both are from the new update , i just wanna experiment with the exposure settings (i m new to it),
hdr enhaced and another hdr effect on top through pics art?, hdr overload

Look at the background house in the corner for example. In Nokia app is blown out and in google cam is perfect and detailed. Hdr+ is for that, to have a bigger dinamic range.

Hi,
Has anyone found a working Google Camera mod for Mate 20 Pro? Need HDR+ and Portrait.
I have been searching the the Mate 10 thread, but haven't found anything for Mate 20 Pro, guess due to the different processor and Android verison.
cheers,
yarmun
That would be soooooo great if some1 could make a working mod for it. The camera modules on the Mate 20 Pro are really capable, but the ****ty software screws up most of the pictures. It's a huge drawback it's not available in the U.S., but hopefully some is ultra dedicated on this topic
Oh yes we need this!
Selfies with my OP3 on gCam still way better than with the mate 20 pro.
This is not a One Plus phone. There is no reason to use the Gcam mod on any phone that has a good camera app. It's necessary to use the Gcam mod on One Plus phones because the software coding on One Plus phones is inept and literally the only way you can take decent pictures on a One Plus phone is to use the Gcam mod.
On phones by Huawei, Samsung, Xiaomi and even Oppo (the parent company of One Plus) the native camera apps take much better pictures than the Gcam Mod because they are coded for the hardware on their respective phone models. The Gcam mod is not and never can be regardless of how many settings you tweak.
I have owned Nexus and Pixel phones and the Gcam mod doesn't take Pixel quality photos on any non-Pixel phone. It just makes One Plus owners feel better about owning a $600 phone with thoroughly inept software coding.

Simply not true. I have an S8+. GCam mod takes way better photos.
Not even the best example here, but guess which one was shot using Samsung's camera app, and which GCam mod. Lighting aside, one shot captured way more details than the other. More or less same ISO (50-60).
https://photos.app.goo.gl/mLVT93ypdsNUfWdz5

Samsung's camera app is indeed smoother and faster at taking the shots tho. But I always switch to GCam when I'm capturing still life.

If you say so. Samsung is known for having one of the best Android camera apps but I'm sure a ported GCam app that wasn't made for your phone takes much better pictures.
I owned a $200 Samsung J3 that took better pictures than the $600 OP5 & 5T which is why the GCam threads for One Plus phones have hundreds of posts.
GCam threads for phones like the Mate 20 Pro never attract more than a handful of posts because there is no reason to use a GCam mod.
The Mate 20 Pro launched a month and a half ago and yours is the first post I remember seeing about using the ported GCam app.
also waiting for this.
Gcam's HDR+, night sight, selfie, topshot on mate20pro would be insane!!
Me too would be great if someone could port it
Latest one by Arnova works but only for front camera and picture quality is bad like its not even using Google's software tweaks and just using the camera api.
Gcam required here too to eliminate the oil painting cartoon effect.
This is very necesary, for mode portrait. Thanks!!
just one question: doesn't gcam only use one lens?
Found a thread somewhere with people pointing out that some of the older Gcam versions actually work with the M20P. You can find them e.g. At Apkmirror (the linked one ist the one that actually works)

But they don't have portrait mode right? :/
It will be good to make gcam port for super wide angle like for LG G6 and G7.
Is there any HDR+ Gcam port for Huawei mate 20 pro? It honestly is the only feature I would need as apart from the image processing huawei's native camera app does everything pretty well (portrait mode for example)
HDR works really good on mp20.. try HDR mode..
Huawei should provide manual configuration options for HDR. I am not comfortable with AI. Another disappointment is that there is no option for dynamic control of ISO and brightness/saturation/contrast setting for video in pro mode. Huawei, please make everything configurable.

Not even the best example here, but guess which one was shot using Samsung's camera app, and which GCam mod. Lighting aside, one shot captured way more details than the other. More or less same ISO (50-60).

Samsung's camera app is indeed smoother and faster at taking the shots tho. But I always switch to GCam when I'm capturing still life.

It is true. The GCAM mods are awful and result in slow photo taking, scewed white balance. Google Pixel 3 is no where near as good as the Mate 20 Pro for photos or video and I have both. Still struggling to sell the Pixel as no one wants them.

Why on earth would you want googles portrait mode? The edge detection is worse than a five year old's drawings.

For some reason I can't get a Pic with bokeh effect on front camera I don't know why
The last post I found about this was from september, so can anyone tell me what's the best gcam mod so far?
in both terms of image quality and adaptation (being able to use frontal camera would be a pleasure)
I am using this:
https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/cfiles/gcm1/PMGC_7.0.009_Astrophotography_Version_V7.apk
I´ve tested 4 or 5 gcam mods so far, but really, the differences are very small. Most of them denoise the pictures too much, I prefer the more grainy pictures from the stock cam, they are showing more details in most of the pictures I´ve taken, in daylight and in low light situations.

is this mod accepting all four cameras (including frontal)? I can't test it right now

It's kinda sad to hear that. Do you remember any mod with not much denoise effect?
I think it is a good thing. So I don´t have to switch between two Cam Apps. Its all personal preference. If one likes the smooth, degrained and denoised pictures because they´re "looking better" on a small display, go ahead.
If it comes to details, white balance and which one is closer to what I see with my eyes, stock cam wins 9 out of 10 times - in MY eyes.
+1, tried a bunch of gcam mods and in the end dumped them all. I was not happy with post-processing and heavy details reduction. Probably ok for Instagram.
My only complaint about the stock cam is inconvenient UI especially in Pro mode.

Speaking of stock cam, is there a way to put up a 3x3 grid or any kind of grid at all?

In Settings there is "Show gridlines" checkbox. It enables 3x3 grid.

Thanks. I swear I've looked and somehow missed it.
i think the best gcam 6 mod is this:
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/changelog818/
And this on gcam 7 mod, has an insane tweak lib patcher, you can adjust sharpness, tone curve... its just amazing. Photos from front cam are not so good:

Nice. But I can't seem to find a way to enable the wide angle lens.
I have no idea how relevant this is (or up to date) but this may be a good place to discuss it. (Maybe there is some more info in the comments of the video?)
Hi everyone!
I just got my A3. Any progress on GCam vs Stock? There are SO many GCams..
Thanks!
I tried all that worked with the Mi A3 (upto v 7.3) but still preferred the stock cam. Yes, the UI for Pro sucks.
Gcam files are larger than stock and stock cam colours are realistic compared to gcam.
any available Gcam for xperia1 III now?
Have you checked GCam Port Hub?
IDK why you bother looking for another camera while your phone's is already very great IMO.

The "MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV1r" is working, but you need to config it to do a better job. I've an initial config made by myself

Hello,
Is there any option to made the photo sphere working? Honestly I only try to have Gcam for this mode hehe.
Thank you for the apk
Thank you for the link and the config. This is the only build of gcam that I could get working at all.
I've been evaluating this phone for the last week. I may end up returning it. It's a fantastic device; the only real problem I have with it is the camera. It's just not that good, and I think it's entirely a software problem. I've been side-by-side comparing shots taken with Photography Pro, taken with this gcam build, and with my old phone (Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 with a Pixel Experience ROM). Most of the time my old phone looks best, unfortunately.
You tell me:
Left: Xiaomi, Center: Xperia with Photography Pro in Auto mode, Right: Xperia with this Gcam config.
I wonder if with additional tweaking of the config, this could be fixed. It could open up the full potential of the hardware. I don't know the first thing about tweaking this type of camera config, though. Is there a guide that you used somewhere for figuring out the best values in this file?
Thanks again.

Photography pro and pretty much every xperia before always use very little elaboration. Pretty much every review and testing state that photography pro could obtain high quality photos if used in manual mode. It's not easy, but auto it's not good. For casual photo shot better using basic mode, if you switch to advancet setting, avoid auto and use P, S, or M mode.
I know it's a smartphone and not a mirrorless or a Reflex but it's something like buying a 5000 euro camera body to use it with automatic settings.
Also form the photo you posted i see that the wood construction in the xperia auto mode is darker...but...the tree foliage on the top left clearly show more detail in the middle photo. The Gcam settings appear to have too much sharpness and grain.
Probably the middle photo with a little more exposure time or a little more iso will be the best one of the three.

I won't argue this with you; I've seen some great results in reviews from people using the camera in Manual mode. I'm sure it's possible to obtain superior results if you have the time to compose your shot and find the perfect settings.
The thing is though, for most of the photos I would want to take with a smartphone camera, I don't have time to find optimal settings manually. When I do have that time, I think the ability to make those manual adjustments is awesome (and should be in more smartphones), but most of the time I don't. That means that the Auto/Basic modes are incredibly important, because it's how I'll end up taking most photos in real life. Maybe that means that this phone is not marketed to me, and if that's the case, that's fine. But manual settings are pretty much outside the scope of discussion for this thread - what I wanted was a comparison of essentially default settings between my current phone and this phone.

In my testing, I actually found that Basic mode usually takes worse photos than Auto mode. In particular, Basic mode seems to have a big problem with overexposure. I assume because HDR/DRO is not being used?
Left to right: Reference (Xiaomi), Sony Auto, Sony Basic, Sony Gcam
(I had to scale down this comparison for posting)
Also, all modes on this phone do not capture detail as well as my current 3 year old phone. If you blow up the details, clearly the reference photo on the left has by far the best preservation:
Left to right: Reference (Xiaomi), Sony Auto, Sony Basic, Sony Gcam
This holds for every test photo I took - the detail is worse from the Xperia. I don't think manual mode tweaks will fix this - it seems like the sensor and software just don't capture as much detail.
But then again, I am not a professional photographer, so I'm not completely sure. Maybe I am doing something wrong.
All in all, I was really disappointed with these results since I wanted to love this phone!
I think EVERYONE who is obsessed with so-called camera quality on a PHONE has lost their minds. It has become ridiculous.

An owner of this particular phone with close to insanity price tag is supposed to be obsessed with camera quality. Just because this is the main selling point of it - Zeiss, Sony Alpha team etc. Unfortunaly I'm less than impressed too . Other flaws like average battery life, no face unlock, low screen brightness at daylight etc etc don't help to love this phone either....
