Hi I'm considering getting a used Xperia X, would you recommend the phone after it's been out a couple years, or would you suggest finding something else? Thanks!
If you don't care about the battery life much, get it. It chugs along just fine for everyday use. I've been using it since almost 2 years now and I haven't run across any major issue. Just don't get one with an unlocked bootloader.

Cool thanks sounds great! Is the battery life bad from new or because it'll have been used for 2 years? If the second, I'm happy to slap in a replacement battery and back panel if it gets really bad.
Also while I don't plan to get one like this, what's bad about getting a phone with an unlocked bootloader?

SONY POLICY TO CONTROL DEVICES advances every year
when X came out it fall under catagory where TA.img can be EXTRACTED and DRMFIX was easy ( simple patching in RAMDISK folder within KERNEL)
so simplifying for u
1. X has battery only 2600Mah , very low! and throughout 2017 when x was on Nougat! i used to get only 4 hours SOC while you socialize via FB/whatsapp on 4G (dual sim variant) , but since April2018 the Oreo version gives 6hours of battery, they fixed some things. I carry powerbank with me just in case.
2. where X is concern MM was Faster, Nougat was good and swift on touch (bad on battery) and Oreo is very good on battery but as device gets hot, it start Lagging specially whenver you areo n 4g and lots of data is being downloaded , all social apps hangs! but after a while it gets better and X comes out of lagging phase
3. there is no harm in buying device with UB but this means DRM keys are lost! its good to have them but you wont be using them ever anways! , just make sure you flash the stockrom again and wipe everything, making sure there are no privacy risks.

Thanks for the explanation, I'll keep it all in mind! Another question I thought: how's the notification LED on this phone? Does it have more than one color? I haven't found much about it, but I consider it really important to using a phone.

come to think of it, its white only! i never saw different colors LED notifications! perhaps i never paid attention to that ... hmm strange of me..
i will update you in couple of days! but I have usually seen WHITE LED/s ONLY! (Blinking few times in nights, beside my bed) , that i remember! but i don't remember seeding green/pink/red notification blinks!
As usual on Xperia devices, the notification LED is RGB, some apps let you change the color directly in their notification settings, but if you want full control I suggest using LightFlow, where you can set any color you want, the flashing pattern and even the brightness of the notification LED...

It does. Just the app needs to support changing colours. For example, you can set a colour in WhatsApp, and it'll blink that way; For snapchat, it blinks yellow. And the led is embedded in the earpiece.

Lool! All smartphones have a decent battery life, nothing amazing. Not really an issue but you do have to tweak your phone a bit to get the best out of it. Like kernels and freezing and removing something useless things . Hope i helped.

for the time being yes. stick with official updates. then while you stick with official updates do your reading. take your time and read through out the threads. and when you feel confident enough to root then go ahead. but for now i suggest you stay stock.

i dont quite understand the ppl who buys android phones and doesnt modify it... i mean the only TRUE difference between iphone and sgs2 is powered by iphone iOS and Android.. which is open source... the other difference doesnt really matter much.. processor ( yea its more powerful but duuh.. there isnt much things to do that really require that much power) or the screen (duuh iphone has abit better screen so what? if u dont look closely u wont even see difference(atleast not me)) so yea if you gona buy sgs2 i RECOMMEND you to do alot of flashing and rooting and play with it around
WITH BACKUP of course... especially the EFS backup
It all depend how you use your phone. Sometimes I it for hours on end and go through 2-3 batteries a day (I have 3 spares).
Today I used it very little. About 7 phone calls, 2 messages and only about half an hour browsing / xda etc. Currently on 85% after 18 hours.
So usage makes a massive difference.

With that usage aslong as you charge each night you should be fine, my usage is similar and i go to bed with 20%

do you think is there a need to change the Kernel version ? or just do the official update and it will be fine ?
Definitely stick to official updates. Regardless of what anyone might tell you, it's a fantastic phone running stock firmware. And if you're not confident about flashing custom roms/kernels (there's a small risk everytime you do it that things might go wrong/you might brick your phone), definitely stick to official firmware.
At the very least until you've done a lot of reading on here and are confident to try different roms/kernels. If things do go wrong, it might take you a few days of research on here to work out how to fix your phone (which means you won't have your phone working for that time), and at worst you'll have to return it to Samsung for repair. Which you'll probably end up paying for as running custom roms/kernels voids your warranty.
So slow and steady, stick with stock for a while and read. Then read some more. And when you're done doing that, read for another couple of months.

Sorry but got to disagree, yes its a great phone as stock but with custom ROM and kernels its an amazing phone. The devs here have done some amazing work. BUT (and its a big one) dont do a thing till you've researched your arse off, and you understand all the risks of what your doing.

Latest stocks have been fine, even stock kernels have shown improved battery life. But with a custom rom/kernel combination your setting up a phone the way you like it with many ways of tweaking it.
If you do buy one, update to latest stock, try it out, if your not happy then root and enjoy.
My post was an attempt to persuade the OP to stick to stock should he purchase an SGS2. The last thing we need on here is yet another " Hlap mai fone broked !" post :-/ (and everything that goes with it).

My wifi and GPS are on 100% of the time. I never turn them off. Today, 23 hours since charge and about 2 hours screen time and battery on 69%. But 3g is off (2g only) and no email sync.
Yesterday, heavy usage and went through at least 2 batteries.
BTW, since I got the s2 I've only ever used cf root kernals. Nice and stable for me and the closest thing to stock. Others claim increased performance or have over clocking etc don't interest me. I believe the phone doesn't need them. Also using Checkrom. On the S1, well that was different.

Hi everyone!!
To anyone that owns the K900; can you, please, encourage or discourage me about getting it? What do you guys say? I love its design and size, and I like it's Intel's chip in it. I've had a Razr i and was great!
I've followed this forum months ago, but have missed most news about this device. Can you tell me if this device will get any update like 4.3 or 4.4? Any good changes in the last months with software updates? I've heard it heated a lot at first. :/
I'm most interested in using it like if it was the Xperia Z Ultra ha; media and games! Will it do fine? What about battery life?
Is it easy to root?
Anything you could tell me about how this device is doing nowadays could help me!
Thank you in advance!

- I'm using K900 and i would like to say: buy Samsung S4 or Note 3 or Nokia 1520, it's much better
- 4.3 will be updated this month; no confirmation for 4.4 (seem like we don't get this for k900)
- Battery life: it's ok, not so good but can last for more than one day with low using
- There's no root method at this moment;but the custom rom already included but you have to wait a little longer (maybe a week after new Rom announce)
I was a previous S3 user with "The Galaxy Project" ROM.
I love this phone. For me the battery life is great lasting over a day. Lenovo's battery power management tool works well.
You quickly become use to the size and work out how to navigate around it. The Lenovo Theme is great.
Cons.
- Occasionaly I get a slight screen flicker on the sides of the phone. Simply turning the screen on and off rids this.
- The phones speaker is very low compared to other phones I have used in the past.
Yes I would recomend one.

Well I got this phone a week ago, and so far Im loving it, I hv had iPhone and HTC Onex+ but this one is making a real difference, performance compared to batter life is great.
Do hv a small issue with screen brightness as it keeps varying by itself though Auto Brightness is turned off specially on dark colors, also screen kinda brighten up/flickers while putting in PIN code on lock screen, that could be a Setting or software issue but thats not major issue and that could be only me having it and I will check with my warranty if it gets worse.
Overall I would advice it to every friend around me to hv it over Samsung, Sony and HTC.

I know what you are saying...Especially the last page of the app drawer and the notification pull down screen.
I had the issue/behavior and for a second thought I have a faulty piece..but turns out, the ROM is configured in a way that the brightness flickers. It is perfectly normal and goes away with a new launcher/ROM.
Dont worry and you have made a good choice..I am super proud of the K900...

Does this K900 last at least 18 months?
Thank you for all your valuable answers!
The question now is: Does this K900 last at least 18 months without problems?
I have read too many comments at GSMarena that this device starts to give problems in less than 6 months...
Please, tell me if it lasts and if it's a good buy, I know it's powerful enough, and it's so pretty in design.

I used it for a year and sold it because of disappointing software, there are no updates available for it after 4.2.2, but I didn't have any issues regarding hardware, battery etc. It's a pretty device, feels good in band, screen and performance is great, but software side no Android updates and not much of development, if you aren't concerned about software side than its not a bad device else you can get a lot of better options in lenovo other than this k900.

I have two K900's - one's mine and second one is my girlfriends. I crashed lcd screen (my fault, I dropped it) and replaced it with the new one. The second phone got usb problem - I had to buy usb port from china and replace it. The cost was around 8$ so it was nothing. Now everything is working fine. We have our phones for more than 1 year and we're still content.
I suggest to install custom ROM with Android 4.3 - it's way better witout Lenovo Launcher. Clean android works faster, it has longer battery life and more free RAM space.
So i got my s8 a few days ago (yay) and noticed some of its horrendous issues within an hour of usage, so i started looking around for fixes and stumbled upon Eragon (Rom) and have been attempting to get that on to my phone with no luck. I have little to no experience messing around with phones. I followed the guide per Skeleton1911 and can't even get the Vcom driver's working properly. Pretty frustrated and confused at this point and decided to reach out for help/advice. Or any possible alternatives.
What issues are you experiencing that you hope will be solved by this ROM?
I only ask because it might be a hardware issue and therefore a sign to return the phone for a replacement from your vendor while that's still an option.

4g connectivity seems to be pretty bad/unstable. Battery life is pretty meh. Most if not all of the issue with this phone is pretty much fixed by the Eragon rom hence why I'm trying so hard to get it installed.
the 4g connectivity along with the battery life a very lack luster, which are some of the fixes that come with Eragon.
OK, fair enough. I do understand battery life is improved under Eragon, and OS RAM usage is reduced.
I just read 'horrendous issues' and wondered what that meant exactly, as I've found the battery life on stock to be reasonably OK. The only 'horrendous' issues, in my experience, are the camera and the GPS, neither of which are changed or improved on Eragon. But we all have our personal measurements for such things.

I can't confirm battery improvement with eragon rom. After a few weeks I had a massive battery drain of about 15% per hour without any heavy usage. The phone was in my pocket with wifi and bluetooth active. I didn't install any new apps and I already I flashed cache and dalvik. The only thing that helped was getting back to stock. Now battery is back to normal and I don't experience any major differences in performance, multitasking or ram usage.
A good example of just how different people's experiences can be, depending on their usage patterns and which set of apps they have installed. Thanks for sharing your experience, Steve.

It seems a matter of luck if you get a full working s8 or not. Maybe there are different builds, depending on where ist was made.
I am using gps from the first day without any problems, no matter if on stock or eragon rom. My s8 just gets warm when playing games but not hot. I think the perfomance is good (no matter which rom) but I would have expected a much higher antutu score from a deca-core chipset and 4gb ram. The battery performance is not better or worse (on stock rom) compared to my earlier smartphones like the oneplus one. I expected the lack of support from the elephone company just as it is, so I am not disappopinted at this point.
I think it's also worth keeping in mind that people are more likely to post when something goes wrong than when something goes as expected, so folks with a defective item are more likely to post complaints than someone who's phone just works.
That being said, I do expect quality control at a third-tier device manufacturer will not be as good as at one of the major players.
And yeah, the big battery is just there to provide adequate battery life despite the huge screen. In my usage, even with the brightness turned down, the screen accounts for 75% of my battery usage on average.
It's a great screen for a cheap phone like this, but it is a trade-off. No such thing as a free lunch.
Finally! Some people are talking sense here and not just complaining about their devices.
For me, I think it's pointless to compare this phone with flagship devices. You can't just say that "on my one plus/galaxy..." because you paid better bucks for those so they got to be damn better!
I have not got any complaints on my device because as I have read on another post here, "You sound set your expectations".
When you bought this, you have a certain use case and if the phone fulfills that, then the phone has already served its purpose.
Please don't expect our units to be top notch as the price won't allow that.
What kind of 4G issue was resolved by this ROM?

After doing some research I found out that the ROM will NOT fix network issues.

Did you know, that our biggest competitor, that charges 3-4x the price of our S8, just canceled their release of Android 8.0 for their newest device? Google the news Why? Because their update was rushed and released way to early, causing a lot of trouble to many users. Do you want that to happen? We don't. That's why our update will only be released when it's done and can deliver a flawless experience to ALL users of the S8. Therefore we kindly ask for your patience. It is true many of the big players have pulled or cancelled their Oreo updates in the last few weeks. Be nice if Ele would try another 7.x update with another attempt to fix the camera though.
I suspect that their dev team has its hands full trying to get everything they got wrong on 7.x right on 8. And I doubt they have the resources to have two teams working on S8 firmware development.
Just my edjumakated guess, mind you. ?

so it's normal thing that GPS do't work and camera makes meh photos?
Also, is there an option that phone screen will turn on for a while when I'm receiving a notification? I know there is something like that in android but I couldn't find it. Sorry It's my first android phone and I just feel lost
I did not say the GPS did not work. If your GPS does not work at all, you should return your phone to the shop where you bought it. It's defective.
What I did say is that the GPS isn't great, as is par for the course on Mediatek based phones. If you need great GPS, this is not the phone for you.
Spend more money and buy something better, maybe with a Qualcomm chipset. Or buy a used last-gen flagship phone with good GPS performance.
As for the camera, it's crappy. All the reviews I've seen have pointed out the focus hunting. It's sub par and mostly a problem with the software.
That being said, yes, sub par cameras on cheap Chinese third tier OEM phones do tend to be sub par in one way or another. This one's just notably bad at the moment. Maybe always, if they don't eventually release another firmware for it.
And if this is your first Android phone, I can understand the confusion. Especally if you're coming from fruit phones, where everything just works on pretty much all of them.
This is a terrible first phone for most people. This is a pretty bad device for a novice, it's more of a hobbyist phone. But XDA is a place for that kind of crowd, so my comments were framed accordingly.
I really like it, but I knew what I was buying. I don't use the camera and only make occasional use of the GPS. And I make heavy use of the screen for watching videos and I am not a fan of 18:9. The S8 is a big win for me there.
You probably would have been better served, in this price range, by a Motorola phone, to be honest. If you're still within your exchange window, I would recommend swapping it for something more mainstream.
Best of luck!

I'm not even from apple family. I'm one of old guard of Windows phone, and everyday I'm more and more surprised that android won this competition.
I have no chance for fully refund, since I already own it few months, but I see I need to contact a seller. But I think they'll reject it because I dropped it once, and I have beautiful spider web at back -.- (It's not very sturdy). I think I need to revive my lumia for gps usage.
New to elephone s8 but not new to Chinese smart phones. I was hoping this ROM fixed some issues but hasn't thus far. Phone constantly drops signal to point where i can't receive or make calls. Still trying to figure out if that is due to phone not support on my network or not. Which is odd cause at times phone is fine, flying speed full coverage others its the complete opposite. One other bug I was hoping it fixed was screen being unresponsive. Like i try to swipe up to unlock or use fingerprint but it just vibrates to acknowledge I touched it and does nothing. I am looking for work around before i get fed up and sell it or something. I really love the feel of phone physically and how software works when its working.
I'm getting very poor battery life with my Note 4, which seems to be much worse since a recent update. When I first got the phone a few months ago the battery life was fantastic but now it's almost as bad as my old Moto G2!
I get up in the morning and over a couple of hours spend a bit of time (not constantly for 2 hours) on WiFi checking e-mail, social media, etc. and my battery goes from 100% to 70%. Then I don't use the phone, go out for about an hour listening to Spotify music (offline) using my BT earbuds and when I get home it's down to 40%.
As you can see from the screenshots, it doesn't seem to be the apps I'm using that are draining the battery as "Android system" is responsible for 74% of the battery use. This has maybe 50 packages listed under it, so I think it will be rather hard to identify which one is responsible.
Any ideas what I can do to fix this?
Are you using MTK or SD?

Dont use MIUI, that's a good start. (hopefully you have Snapdragon variant otherwise you're screwed)
ps.

I can't remember how to check but I'm 99% sure it's SD. It's mido if that proves anything.
I installed Greenify and hibernated a few things and that's helped a bit, although it's still not brilliant. I also installed Amplify but the results don't mean anything to me, so I've attached some screenshots in case anything stands out (more in next post due to max.4)
Remaining screenshots.

Yeah I've been thinking of changing ROM tbh. Something that annoys me about MIUI is it only allows you to enter a numeric decryption code on boot. I know how to set it to something different than the unlock code and normally use an alpha-numeric code but that's not an option with MIUI as I wouldn't be able to enter it!
I have App Quarantine installed so I was thinking I could try freezing certain system/MIUI apps but if I'm going to change ROM I guess it's not really worth it. The problem I have is choosing a ROM, as there's so many and battery life, whilst important, isn't the only thing that matters to me. The decryption code thing is important, as is full dual-SIM functionality. OTA upgrades is one thing that MIUI has in it's favour and I guess that's not an option with third-party ROMS but upgrades being made available in a way that they can be installed without wiping the phone would be nice, if possible. Dual apps, Second space and Call/SMS blocklist are all quite handy features in MIUI too.

MiracleDROID, give it a go, it's one of the better ROM's i have used on Mido very underrated.
Or OmniROM if you want weekly OTA (Delta updates) just like in MIUI.
And dont expect miracles right after flashing it, give it atleast 1 charging cycle to settle.
Same problem with me .. Battery temperature goes to 41 degree ++ and after night I have to see my low battery
I'm going to buy a mate20 pro. What do people who have bought think of this phone? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

In my case, that deserves a "what green screen" issue? I know it exists, but not on mine.
I also agree that you need to wait until they have solved the green screen issue.
The phone itself is absolutely incredible but the screen problems render it a no go at the moment. Once that is solved, it'll be a top 2018 phone, the best in my book.
The Mate 20 Pro is a absolutely fantastic device , one that I take great joy in using.
The Pro's for me are....
1)Battery Life (absolutely outstanding)
2)The Camera is impressive
3)Build & Design
4) Display is Great (other than those with display issues) I'm currently not effected.
5)Face ID and UD Fingerprint Scanner work well ( at least in my usage)
6)it's very fast and that 7nm chip performs very well indeed.
Cons for me are....
1)EMUI still needs to be polished
2)Slow Updates (Prob due to different builds)
3)Notch (notch an issue for me, but some don't like, this can be hidden though)
Tbh there isn't much to dislike, it's an all round great device ....., Perhaps wait a little as you might get unlucky with a HULK device, but don't rule it out either.

Well that is good for you. I, on the other hand, had two replacements from Three, and all of them have the green screen. Currently awaiting another replacement.
I agree that it is a great device otherwise.

Only had mine since last wednesday, bought on VF UK. So mine is possibly a newer batch - how do I check the screen manufacturer? Tried a few apps, none give screen hardware info.
Closest thing I have to a problem with it is that auto brightness is enabled, even when it is disabled (plus fill in flash doesn't work when AI is enabled, which is stupid)

I use an app called "Device Info HW", on first page under "Touchscreen" it will give you the make of the screen.

Thank you for your reply. I agree with your opinion.
It's literally the best phone to date, so versatile. Now If you are the unlucky person to get a defective unit that is the only major problem, only other problems is emui that just screams uncomplete but can tell with a few updates will definitely be crazy good. As far as green tint goes, I have an LG panel no green screen issues and only had one device.
