Hi all,
I got my sprint Moto E a few weeks ago. Its working international, but the problem is that its locked to 2G only.
I think its the radio that is locked.
I had a smilar issue with my HTC one E8 sprint when it was updated to Lollipop where the #G part of the radio was disabled. I used this method here to unlock the UMTS900/UMTS2100 portion.
to do this with the Moto E, I need the SPC code to program the baseband. I have had little success with the SPC. If anyone can assist, maybe we can make it a global phone

If the spc code was obtained, would following those steps allow it to be used with any carrier?
The spc code is unique to each phone. If I can get spc code for the device I currently have, a solution is possible

did you have to do anything to get it sim unlocked internationally or did it work out of box?

can you let know if you had to do something special to get it unlocked for gsm use internationally or is it unlocked out of the box.
Also would you recommend this phone or lumia 640?
You have to change the network mode to automatic in the settings instead of 4G/cdma

Based on my experience with this phone, (Moto E 2015 Surnia xt1526,) I think that the lock on this thing is in the modem. Im not 100 percent sure though.

I haven't been around here long enough to have come across it - do you know if the modem files are typically flashed with ROMs on this device? If so, can we swap out modems between custom builds with little or no issues? I don't recall seeing a modems thread, so I'm assuming they aren't typically flashed separately.
I still don't plan to get a CDMA sim card, but I do have sim adapters coming, so I can see what I can get working with my AT&T sim.
Maybe I will be chasing LTE issues after all - really having fun messing with this device.

I know that it does use modems, as far as I'm aware, it has 2 parts, fsg and the Helios h.bin thing. As for switching them out in a custom build, I'm probably going to test it.

OK, those are both new to me (this is my first Moto smart phone) but gives me a place to start looking. Sounds like from what you said that all these ROMs include modems (some devices I've been on ROMs typically did not, modems were flashed separately as needed).

Custom ROMs do not come with their own modem's, they utilize the modem that was present in stock before you flashed. The carrier lock is definitely in the modem though

OK thanks, that's the info I was looking for. Still haven't had time to dig into older info/posts - are you aware of any discussion regarding modem changes? Are we capable of flashing modems separately? Has anyone compiled a list of modem firmwares?

If I might add, i am wondering if we could flash a modem from the us retail version or other and maybe remove the lock? I don't know if it would work, but there is always a small chance it might. Another option might be to have someone on a gsm variant to pull the modem files and maybe we could flash that in fastboot? I don't know for certain, but i think it might work. If it doesn't, then the lock must be elsewhere.

Do the GSM variants have hardware support for the same radio bands as the CDMA models? If not, I'd guess flashing GSM radio on CDMA device won't be a good idea

china frequency bands:

TDD 38、39、40、41
I hope there will be a way to unlock /(add) band 20.

I haven't had a chance to travel to an area locally that I'd get a B28 signal at; got all the time in the world tomorrow so I'll check it out then.
I do have some band 28 towers near me so if there is indeed a way to lock it to a particular band let me know.

My carrier is Vodafone DE. But I dunno which band I am triyng to connect. How can I check that?

Vodafone Germany uses bands 3, 7 and are adding band 20. If you're in a band 20 area you're out of luck as only the Taiwan Special Edition SD650 version has it.

Then you're either on Band 4 or have a Taiwan Special Edition that has both. But you definitely have the SD version and not the MTK he's referring to. If I'm wrong please post a screenshot of your "About phone" because that would be fantastic news.

I second your motion, but AWS will be hard to unlock, as the US version of the phone supporting AWS is not shipping yet. Maybe when is out you could crossflash the phone to get support, or mod the modem ROM/baseband or something, but before that I don't think is possible.
Yes. I guess so. When is the shipment of the US version expected to start?

It's impossible to flash new frequency ranges on any modem. Frequencies are purely Hardware based. The p9000 does not support USA LTE frequencies. (1700/2100 band 4). Although the website says the B version (US version) has been "coming soon" for months now.

I personally don't experience hissing on this phone. As far as issues, it involves the OTA from Vendor Roms which bricked some devices. You can check your ROM version and cross reference it with the ones on the Mi website to make sure. Aside from that, I don't see anything wrong with the phone.
Hi, I'm also considering to buy Note 5 and I just wanted to say that I don't have that problem with Note 4, it doesn't mean much since I don't use N5 but I think there is very very little chance for hissing issue in any device produced in 2017.

Hi, when I purchased seller offer also a global variant for 40 usd more.
Many people confuse about global device version and global firmware that it´s not the same.
You just have to pay special attention to the bands that is enabled, the global version has more bands enabled, by i.e my version that is a non global doesn´t have LTE bands 2 (1900) nor 4 (1700/2100) it mean that in my country it can´t work on 4G (of course I bought it so it is cause I didn´t need). This is the main difference.

Why do you say that has B4? Where you saw it?
Look at this info, just 4G apparted, this is a non-global version from a chinese seller you can find these specs;
4G FDD LTE B5:850 /B8:900 /B3:1800 /B1:2100 /B7:2600
TD LTE B38:2600 /B39:1900/ B40:2300 /B41:2500 MHz
TD or TDD is the LTE FOR China, look up FDD LTE bands.
And this is a Global version, seller usually put in a red highlighted the bands added
4G: FDD LTE B5:850 /B8:900 /B3:1800 /B1:2100 /B7:2600 /B4:1700 /B20:800;
TD LTE B38:2600 / B40:2300
Differences here are bands 4 for Latin America and guess some regions of Asia and maybe others and band 20 for Spain.

No, if your device hasn´t these two added bands definitely it´s not a global version (global rom concept mean nothing for this) is a hardware limitation although can work within 4G depending on your company carrier in some of the 5 frequencies enabled.
I have a Chinese RN5, it has loads of bands dudes. The chance of it not working on your network are slim.
As for the headphones dilemma, they do not hiss or produce low volume. Altho if you pair them with Xiaomi Pro HD which have a high impedance then you will notice a lack in volume. That can be easily fixed with Dolby Atmos the Magisk Module.
