Hello All,
So this thread is dedicated to bringing treble to our note 8! The Galaxy S9 has received treble support and it's disappointing to not see it here.
What is treble?
It's basically a method of partitioning the system by separating the drivers (vendor) and the actual system. This allows for flashing of GSIs and according to current results from the S9 EVERYTHING WORKS without a hitch.
So please developers bring this to our devices and let us enjoy bugless AOSP!
Link to S9 Treble: https://www.google.ae/amp/s/forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/howto-treble-s9-t3765558/amp/
So you do realize that S9 came with treble from the factory right? The only way to bring treble to the n8 is via repartitioning the device and it can be fairly risky if you dont know what you are doing. I suggest you read some device threads that users have partitioned to treble and not a device that comes with it from the factory

To be honest note 8 just need kenrel supporting treble . We got twrp supporting treble but no kernel . There are no devs who really care about note 8 so I wouldn't expect much . But it's possible to port it
I dont think it ever will come the note 9 just got root i think if im not wrong according to to majisk amd its already partitioned for treble so basically the note 8 is toast once the father of root decided to leave thats it.!! It happened to alot of snapdragon samsungs this one will always stay on 7.1.1 with root hope this helps. Ive planned to jump in november
On my side, i don t understand why it s not possible for the note 8 when one plus 3, oneplus 5 and galaxy note 3 are in the treble update list (i ve read this list on xda). I just think sammy doesn t want to give treble for note 8 to force peoples to jump for the note 9 which is not attractive for me because the new spen features are gadget for me and the battery life will be the same (yes the spen blutooth explain a bigger battery). I think i will wait for the note 10 or the oneplus 6t (maybe it will feature a pen lol). The time will say.

I m sorry. After reading your comment, i v searched for the link and realized that i make a mistake. You re right. The note 3 is listed to receive android pie and no treble. As we know that all of the devices wich have oreo out of the box will automatically have treble and reading that some oneplus old devices will get treble, and seeing note 3 will receive android 9, i did a very speed conclusion that the note 3 will receive project treble. It s my mistake and i apologize for that. Really sorry.

No worries at all! I was just curious . Thank you for following up and confirming!
i dont know if that the same i have huawe mate 8 and i cant flash oreo rom over nougat becoz partion so when i debrand it and got oreo via ota im able to flash oreo rom and treble what i want to say oreo partions allows treble dunno about note 8! maybe?
would love to see treble for the note 8. the dev love will eventually come to the note 8 as well, it is a really popular phone and over the next year or so most "regular" users will upgrade again and the moding community ill pick up on cheap, second hand note 8's as it is an excellent phone. really wish there was an AOSP rom with absolutely no samsung bull****, even if I would have to give up a lot of features - treble would make that possible.

Dear,
Will the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 get Cyanogenmod 13? If so, when?
Has anyone started trying to create it?
What others mentionable ROMs are there out there for Xiaomi Redmi Note 3?
Kind regards,
BremFM
I can't wait too.
We may get CM12 first, since that's what the Note 2 has on offer.
When is the Note 3 going to get its own forum on xda?
Hi friends, I also want to know.
+1.
On another thread, a comment is made that Xiaomi has good hardware but poor software; the support is not there for international customers.
The MIUI forum for this phone is spammed by Xiaomi advertising new devices, rather than useful information.
Pray for cyanogenmod
You can follow progress here: http://en.miui.com/thread-205649-1-1.html

No.
There has to be a dev for Note3 who will keep updating it. As of now nobody is working on it. If I could get some help, I would be happy to create cyanogenmod roms for note 3
You guys will be best off taking matters into your own hands as most developers won't touch their devices.
I know how you feel about xiaomi, sir zelendel, and i can understand that but the situation is not as bad as it seems (they are starting to change their ways) . We got to consider a few things:
- this IS xiaomi so we have to take into account everything god/bad associated with that
- this phone has great value for money, no doubt it is/will be a very popular device - we can expect a fair amount of modding to be available
- since this is the first Snap 650 powered device it will take some time for the community to start developement
- xiaomi have promised to release source codes up to three months after the device has been released in india, so again it is only a matter of time (they have already released sources for few devices in the timeframe)
So there is still hope for this really good device, we just have to wait a little. In my opinion, there wont be any development for at least two more months since the device has been launched about 10 days ago - it is too early. Just be patient guys :good:
Also, CM is boring
Hello i live in Greece and i was interested in purchasing a new phone.
In Greece the only model that is available is the Helio Deca core model and i will be going for the 3 GB Ram 64 Rom version.
I came across a deal and i am seriously considering to purchase the device but i have some questions first
1 ) is the phone rootable?
2) will custom roms such as cyanogen mod and such be available for the device ?
I cant explain what i need from a phone well enough but the case is that i need a smartphone that its software can be altered easily and there are many roms available for it without having to pay the premium for a flagship device.
I do not care about Camera quality only for the core hardware (cpu ram gpu and a good DAC)
Sorry for the confusing explanation if you have any questions i will be more than happy to explain what i mean.
Thank you in advance.

Its really going to be a toss up between this and the Redmi Note 3 Pro. I have the Note 4 and really like it, I can confirm it is fully rootable and you can install TWRP custom recovery also.
There are some custom roms available, although nowhere near as many as the Note 3/Pro. You will see an AOSP rom by cofface which was only released a couple of weeks ago but many have been using as a daily driver (see link below to rom dev thread). There is also a cyanogen rom which is an alpha but again is still a work in progress. You can also get custom/modified versions of the stock MIUI ROM, personally I find MIUI really good (smooth and lots of customisation options), although if you're a stock android enthusiast it might not be for you. And I've used just about all versions of android over the years, be it nexus/CM mod, AOSP/htc sense/touchwiz.
I'd say if your into modding and ROMs, then the Note 3 Pro would be a great option. The specs are pretty similar and the Note 3 seems to have better battery life, which could be the Snapdragon 650, which seems to be a great processor in terms of power and efficiency. As for audio, I'm loving the audio output via the 3.5mm jack, I actually find it better than the Galaxy S7 that I had, which sounded pretty cheap to be honest and was a disappointment for me (probably the only one on the S7) . I havent tried the Note 3 so cant really comment on it, but Im certain there are more than a few audio mods to play around with and if you check the Note 3 forum, you should get an idea of user opinions.
My reason for choosing the Note 4 over the Note 3 was the Note 4's build quality. The all metal body looks and feels really nice, but if thats not really a big deal for you, the Note 3 is supposed to be very solid also, as it does have a metal back (but plastic at the top and bottom for radio signal). It will also be better for glass screen protectors due to the flat panel of glass, where as the Note 4 has 2.5 curved edges which makes screen protectors a bit more hit and miss in terms of fit.

Thank you very much for your answer and it was amazing that you have the device and that you judged it fairly (in my opinion).
But i learned something that may change my mind ...
For 50 eur more i could get the Samsung Galaxy A5 . And still i do not know what should i do.
I told a friend and he told me that even if the Galaxy phone had even lower specs he would go with it just because its a more reliable brand . ( I dont think this is a very good argument but still using big brand phones like LG Samsung etc and paying more for them "pays back" in a way in support from developers and official support from the company)
Whats your opinion ?

I understand what he is saying, but in terms of support Xiaomi arent actually that bad. The Note 4 is currently on Android 6.0, but there are continual security updates, like most flagships these days. Its not known for certain whether it will officially get updated to 7.0, but they certainly seem to continue with updates whether they be small fixes and security patches.
I would generally recommend Samsung as well to any friends who want a decent reliable device, although I personally wouldnt choose it over the Note 4 as its got 16GB storage and 2GB RAM. I'm not all about having the biggest screen/fastest processor/most RAM, etc etc, but I've had 16GB phones (my previous one was 32GB) and I just like having the extra internal space, 16GB feels limited these days. And with 64GB the Note 4 just feels like you've no worries about running out, I had a Oneplus One previously as well and it also had 64GB. The bonus on the Note for is the sd card option as well, so you get the best of both worlds.

Thank you for your answer.
I want my device to be reliable but i also need it to be snappy and futureproof (my S3 has served me well for 4 years with custom roms ) i want a fast smartphone that will go a long way and the A5 lacks on internal storage and Ram ... so yeah i am seriously thinking the possibility of buying Redmi note 4 but i still have my doubts about it .. i am just not sure if it is worth the investment.

If you want longevity and futureproof with custom roms, I would definitely take a look at the Note 3, just look at the ROM development thread at the link below. It reminds me of the Oneplus One or Nexus 5 forums, where you could not only get official cyanogen roms, but all the other great custom roms, so you're really spoilt for choice. Its really only the other phone I considered apart from the Note 4 and again i was just really impressed with the Note 4's build quality.

Sorry not meaning to hijack the thread, just a quick question abotu which OS to choose @gsmyth you seem to be the right person to ask... I have my Redmi Note 4 on order and I think MIUI 8 will work well for me. It seems lik there is still some issues with cofface's AOSP. I will probably debloat it and use Nova Launcher. Of all the different options with MIUI 8, which one would you recommend to use?

Yes the CM/AOSP roms are still early in development, but worth keeping an eye on. I'm really enjoying MIUI to be honest and nova launcher is excellent too. You should be grand with the global rom or the EU rom which is basically the Chinese rom but with all the Chinese content removed. I'd recommend unlocking the bootloader when you get it and installing TWRP, it's great to be able to make full backups if you're trying out roms.

latest ROM for Nikel (our device codename) from XIAOMI.EU should be fine
custom roms for this phone require Unlocked BL and root
https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-12-15.36782/
Official Global Beta rom is also another option that but DOES NOT require unlocked BL and Root
http://en.miui.com/thread-440133-1-1.html
This phone is worth every penny, specially the 64 gb and 3 gb version. I'm still on the latest EU MIUI 8.2, and it's actually a pretty great rom, but I do prefer CM... For now I'll keep Miui.
Hi there, just want to pitch you my 2 cents regarding the Redmi Note 4.
I have been looking for a smarthphone for a while and i end up getting a Redmi Note 4 a month ago. Really happy with it and imo my best purchase of the year 2016 :fingers-crossed:
The Redmi Note 4 build quality looks and feel absolutely superb as i'm used to seeing plastic phones in this price category. Most of my friends seeing my Redmi Note 4 for the first time thought it was something more expensive than it actually was.
On the performance side: it's great, but not as great as equal Snapdragon based product with Adreno GPU. But it's definitely and absolutely no sloth! The weakest link imo is the Mali GPU, but still good enough to have a great gaming experience with it (half of my internal storage is currently occupied by huge amount of Android games). But not strong enough for smooth VR experience.
Also, consider the Redmi Note 4 only got released in August, give it some time for developers to make their ROMs compatible with the Redmi Note 4. Even Xiaomi themselves seems to be more focussed on Redmi Note 3 support than Note 4 atm.

I woulnd't recommend anyone to pay 50 euro MORE for a 'lesser' product (about it's core functionality and hardware):
- Galaxy A5 has lower resolution screen: 720 vs 1080p
- Slower performance, Antutu 20k on the A5 vs 85k on Redmi Note 4
- Less RAM and less storage space (assuming you going for the 3GB model, other wise it would be the same)
- No fingerprint sensor for security and unlocking the phone, and the Redmi Note 4 fingerprint sensor is very quick!
- No 4G(LTE) support on the Galaxy A5
- No USB On-The-Go (OTG) support on the Galaxy A5, which is very handy for anyone with lots of USB devices
If anything, they should be paying you 50 euro to stay loyal to their brand....
I always gets giddy when i read people base their purchase on the argument: "They are a reliable brand". That always makes me wonder what exactly makes a brand "reliable"? Reliable on trying to make you upgrade the product every year? Honestly, those are the hallmark of a fanboi
There are a few reasons however i can think of someone going for the Galaxy A5 anyway:
- Form factor: the Redmi Note 4 is considerably bigger
- Accessories: Having a hard time finding a cover for it locally: not much luck so far. Not surprising however as Xiaomi is not even active in Europe makes it pretty much fail quest to begin with. Online is the only way i guess, same as selling them online (where i got it from) is what Xiaomi business is about; to keep them cheap.
- Repairs or guarantees. No European office means this is going to be a problem if your phone is broken.

I bought Redmi Note 4 3GB RAM and 64 GB ROM model. I am thoroughly enjoying it.

Wow guys thank you so much for the answers.

Why go RedMi Note 4 instead of Redmi Pro and vice versa

I'm disappointed with this phone, I still hope 8 Android Oreo. I decided to go back to Redmi Note 3.
We don't have as many developers as redmi note 3 has. Instead , we have just one. Good that we still have one....
Also , with only one dev , the android oreo progress is slow...

Hey, i had Redmi Note 3 SD and there is a big difference in build quality, camera and screen.
Why u decided to take the rn3 again?
Only cause of ROMs?
MIUI is just fine
btw. Last week the dev uploaded a few ROMs on Oreo, check it out!

There were not as many software refinements an options for this cellphone this is true (at the time you posted this)
That has changed mate
I strongly urge you to give this cell another chance.
I've been stucking here on Nougat and fails to move on to Oreo. I don't know I just think that Nougat is better in term of performance and stability for gaming. But now, you know, all the threads and developers giving all their loves for Oreo. So maybe this is my time to move.
So, please all hard gamers. In your experience. I need your setup badly for which Oreo rom should I flash. The most minimal and only essential customizations but very good performance n gaming, and please tell me which kernel you've been using for gaming. I really need it badly. Gaming is life. Please.
FYI I play Vainglory, FreeFire or ROS. Thank you so much.
Since there are no Oreo blobs for the Redmi Note 4 from Xiaomi (the Redmi Note 4 has yet to get the MIUI Oreo update and Xiaomi won't release sources for it until it does), kernels are pretty useless, IMO. Just stick with Nougat. It has sources so kernels for it are a whole lot more useful.

Probably never. Xiaomi never updates its old phones to new Android versions (only makes aesthetic changes to MIUI in updates), and this phone is a year old now. So it's old in Xiaomi's eyes. Xiaomi is a hardware company. Makes its money off hardware. So it has to keep pumping out new phones to ensure sales. If everyone holds onto old phones, like us Note 4 owners, Xiaomi doesn't get paid.
So don't expect an Oreo update or official sources from Xiaomi. You'll probably have to move onto the Note 5 Pro if you want Oreo and good gaming performance.

Hello everyone
I made this thread to discuss if Note 8 is going to have the Android 10 Update whether officially or unofficially.
OfficiallySamsung has updated its update policy so that devices should get 3 major updates, but this updated was made after the Note 8 was released. so this may not be the case with our Note 8.
After some search I found a post on MSPoweruser, you can check the post yourself, that the S8 is planned to have the Android 10 officially, and this was said by the Samsung customer service agent.
The Samsung agent said:
Good day Herr Garde,
Thank you for contacting us to the Samsung customer service. Regarding your request for Android 10 I like to inform you. Do not worry. It is planned that also the S8 the android 10 update should get. When this Exactly, I can give you now do not say yet. Therefore I ask you still a little patience. If you have a concern again have, please feel free to contact us!
UnofficiallyI did find a lot of S9 Plus port roms for Note 8 on Android 8.0 and Android 9.0 so is it possible to have an S9 or S10 with Android 10 ported to our Note 8 devices?
Join the conversationI have created a Telegram group to discuss any thing about our beloved Note 8 and share the latest news easily so if you're interested you're welcomed to join the group via this link : https://t.me/Exy8895Chat
If you have any suggestions or any news please tell me
I personally don't think it is likely. And no one should pin their hopes on getting official Android 10.
Rumours are just rumours.
Me feeling we deserve it is a different matter though ?.
I have a S8+, but yeah a thing that it's probable is a S9/S10 ROM port (highly more possible S9/S9+/N9 since it's more similar to the S8/S8+/N8 than the 10 lines), for example S7 have OneUI ported (Android 9.0) with a NFE Port, and it's the same team that ported S9 roms to S8/S8+/N8 (LightExyKings).
Now, when? probably not soon, the devs have to do their things too so I guess it will take some time to make these ports, if, they're possible in the 1st place, we just have to wait sadly

I made this thread at the first place to get the attention of people who would really love to have the Android 10 update so devs can start porting to our Note 8, unfortunately this means we will have to root our devices and I'm a big fan of Samsung Pass and other Knox based apps which gonna stop once you root. I hope the update is worth it and the also comes out without bugs.
Yeah, it will properly be a S9 port due to its similarities with our devices hardware but it will be very good to have a S10 port tho.

Yeah, in my case since I've never S.Pay or S.Pass it didn't affect me much unlocking bootloader and such, since well all the other knox based apps works (S. Folder, S. Health, etc), but for example after the sec patch ends for the S8/N8 Line (aka 2020), the only way to maybe, taste Android 10 or OneUI 2 (if it gets ported), will be via unlocking bootloader, TWRP and etc
The worst thing here is that Samsung drops the support of a phone that was, and even now it's still expensive as new, with just 2 years of support of updates and 3 years of sec updates, meanwhile the iPhone 7/7+ that was the competitor of the S8/N8 and it was released earlier, will get updated to iOS 14, 15 and possibly 16, aka support until 2023...
Really let's hope some devs can port a ROM haha
EDIT: to add that even Note 8 users got it worse since it was released when Oreo was already available, but Samsung still released it with Nougat and only updating it until Pie

I don't really know how porting roms works but I think even that's not possible because s9 has different chipset so therefore it isn't compatible.
As far as i know there aren't any other devices with exynos 8895 apart from s8/s8+/N8.

Take it as a Custom ROM, probably if they manage to port it, it will have bugs like non-stock based custom ROMs at first
Anyways, the most probably thing is newer LineageOS (Like LOS 17, 18 for Android 11.0, etc), but not OneUI 2.0, 3.0, etc ported sadly
S7 had it easier since it had the same chip that NFE that got Pie, but if you search a little in the S6 xda forum, they managed to port a OneUI ROM from Note 8, but it has various bugs, like no HwC, etc

For me as a Samsung user and all my devices are Samsung products (Note 1, S3, Note 5, Note 8, Gear S3, etc.) I always liked how Samsung had new futures before other companies but I think this have changed after they are giving us 2 years of updates ( on the update policy) and actually only 1 year of updates in real life as you said Android 8 was already available and released before the Note 8 was but they decided to release it with Android 7 instead which is 1 year update to One UI 1. They also almost did the same thing with the Note 10 as it was released with Android 9 while Android 10 is available. One the other hand Apple have been supporting the iPhone 5s till the last year with updates with is actually good for a phone thats 5 years old and its battery is getting bad aka its performance where you really need to upgrade to new phone at this point. I really hope Samsung learns before they lose customers and I really hope more to get they Android 10 update without losing much specially Spass cuz I do really love this device, it has a good Design and performance and mine is still new to upgrade now...

I think they would be able to port it from S9 but its never gonna be stable or even close the an official rom.
I think we would see a LineageOS 17 or 18 also but this doesn't solve the One Ui cuz its hard to port. (its not that stable and we will miss some futures from Samsung) if I'm gonna have a stock Android running on my Galaxy I would go rather and buy me a Google pixel or One plus better at least its gonna be more stable as its official and we are gonna have the updates way more faster.

They will never port a stable version or at least close to an official rom due to the hardware incomparable-ties which will probable give us the choice to continue using is with One UI 1 or use the ported rom and get used to these bugs or upgrade or phone which Samsung wants us todo but if I'm gonna do this I'm gonna find a company like OnePlus or Apple cuz I'm not gonna do the same thing again with a S10 or Note 10 after they don't update it...
The S7 was actually easier cuz of the Note FE which is actually the Note 7 and remember Samsung always make the S and Note the same Chip set each year like the S8 and N8, S9 and N9. but as the Note FE was late it got its update Support father than the S7 (which is capable of running Android 10 One UI 2 until now but Samsung doesn't want to update it as well).
Android Q/10 will be ported quite soon but neither N8 nor S8 will see original firmware from Samsung.
They will be able to bring the functionality of the S pen
there's no android 10 official rom for s8 and note8 by samsung schedule.....(crying~~)
Apparently the will not do an update to 10 for the S8 and Note 8.
