This phone does seem to have less to none downsides, I heard reviewers complaining about the backcover of the phone, a missing camera button and the Samsung hubs being messy (mainly the social hub which I'm looking forward to, as I like it being all-in-one).
On the other half the advantages:
1. Huge 4,3'' Screen
2. Super AMOLED Plus (less energy consumption, more subpixels (= sharper), better colors)
3. 1,2 GHz Dual Core processor (less battery consumption, more power, great overall performance, ability to record and play 1080p videos and 720p flash content in the browser.
4. Android 2.3.3; great stability and a zillion apps. Nothing more to say.
5. The phone's design. I personally like it.
6. It's a super leightweight, you won't even notice holding it in your hand.
7. Huge internal storage (16/32gb and the support of up to 32gb SDHC
8. Touch Wiz 4.0
9. AllShare
10. 8MP Cam and 1080p recording
11. NFC (not available in every region)
12. On device encryption (imporant for business people)
13. Other technologies for business people (Cisco stuff, VPN and similar things)
14. Multimedia monster (plays almost every file you can imagine)

I'm getting this phone the moment it's available in my country, no matter what, this is my personal phone of the year, I check all relevant pages daily to get all the news about this phone, kinda addicted I guess but it's very hard to resist this beautiful phone !

Now Waiting for this phone is crazy... I hate the rumor mill of delays, it kills you then you get some joe schmoe saying, it was unconfirmed and it all dies down.
This phone looks really good specs wise and reviews have done it justice.
Well, I was eager ALMOST as much before my HTC HD2 was delivered ...........
Since the HD2 disappointed me somewhat I deeply hope the S2 will make it up ..............
The other phone which I anticipated so much was infact the HD2. That supermonster of a phone, after two years, is still a monster. The only phone that can dual-boot Android and WP7.

The poll is obviously for fun aswell as the "15 - 45634562475."-stuff. Though I expect people who visit this subforum to be interested in the SGS2. Why not hype the phone abit that we're all waiting for? You can still present your opinion about the phone in this thread as I don't care if negative or positive but if you're just whining about others liking the phone then this is certainly the wrong area for you to be at.
Btw your critizising and whining makes YOU look like a 12 year old. Then again I'd like to know what you encounter to my "halfassed list". Bring it hater, bring it !
And yes, I love every aspect of this phone. If you're going from Samsung I8910HD to SGS2 this is a huge overall improvement, and there are people out there who switch from phones less good than my OHD, you should be able to imagine that those people really look forward to this phone.

I'm upgrading from a Sanyo SCP-8400 to the SGS2. You won't believe just how much I'm looking forward to this phone!!!
To answer the original question - there has never been a phone I've wanted more than this one. I was about to get an SGS when this was announced. There was plenty of debate before I picked that ahead of it's peers. Not so this time. There are no close seconds, no runner-ups, no debating among features to see which I want. Anything else would be a compromise.
No, I've never been this eager to get a phone. I haven't really anticipated the release of a phone as much as have videogame stuff. I hope that we'll see a released date soon, and then I can mark it on my calendar

WTF! I am upgrading from a HTC Touch Pro which really sucks with its resistive touch sreen compared to the one from SGSII!
btt: I check this forum and the google news search every day! There never was a phone which I so hardly wanted to OWN!

I expect the price to go down to 500€ until release, some shops certainly will go down but then again I prefer wellknown sellers like Amazon who offer good service in case of warranty and return, i wonder if they would go down to something like 499,- aswell if another shop does (in the last 30 days or so the price went from 599,- to 548,50 which is the right direction but hopefully not all).

How will a ROM create a hardware camera button?

If you're sticking with your Mate2, vote for that! If you're going to sell it, vote for that and please tell us what your selling price is/may be, and what phone you're buying next. And if you're unsure, there's an option for that.
Hopefully this'll help other people make their next phone decision or get Huawei's act together for the US, who knows?
As for me: I'd like to sell it; possibly looking into a used Note 3.

I'm also planning on selling my HAM2. I'm interested in the Nexus 6 but want to read RL user reviews. I also would like to see if there are any Google Play editions going to be announced soon that have decent screen size and big battery. Like most new Google phones, I suspect the supply chain for the Nexus 6 is going to take a few months to get enough phones out. Maybe Moto will be a nice surprise and get enough stock out early. I guess Huawei decided the North American market isn't worth the effort. Too bad. I suspect they've quit reading North American web pages after the reaction to their announcement about not updating to KK. (I really can't believe their callous responses to posts on their FB page. "Life goes on." Given that attitude, I suspect they're miserable at responding to warranty issues.)
I've only had my phone sim in it a few times, usually it's wifi only or sharing my tablet sim with my LTE N7 and unlocked AT&T Note 8. I have too many devices and need to move them. I want to go either with my Note 2 and 8, Note 2 and this with the tablet sim, or sell everything and go with an international Note 8 with the phone sim and a cheap T-Mobile branded phone for a backup with wifi calling.
"Wait and see" is what makes sense to me. The phone still has the attributes I bought it for. I'm disappointed that the phone is being neglected, but not sure I would have wanted the KitKat update if it had come. I had enough problems with various 4.4.x versions on the Nexus 4 that I would not have been an early adopter on the HAM2. I'm not exactly a fan of Huawei after the company's failure to adequately support their product, but I still remember that they freely provided the bootloader unlock code., something not many phone manufacturers do. So I think there are a few trade-offs involved.

I'm keepin it because I can't find any other phone as of today that is worth selling this for to get a replacement. Maybe in 8 months something better will come a long but then again maybe in 2 months or something we will have CM. The only phablet I can see worth money is the Sony Xperia Z Ultra but I think this phone is more rounded overall. I was ok with JB last week before the announcement and I'm ok with it this week just sad. This is a $300 budged phablet I bought not no $700 phone I found out was not being supported anymore. For the $300 I paid for this the battery and phone is great. A 5.5 inch screen is not a phablet to me. 6 inches and up I need and if someone can find me a worthy contender I would gladly upgrade because i'm so mad at Huawei. But as it stands its actually in a class of its own.

Thought about it more myself and it's still an awesome device and I think you would still get another year out of it. I may not get the latest android wear updates after April but Pebble said they are going to support 4.3+ with the next updates and I actually prefer my Pebble steel so I'm OK with that. Android wear has really been getting better lately and I'm excited to see what lollipop brings "Torn between two lovers, feeling like a fool" you know how the song goes.

The update means nothing to me. I had a 2+ year old Note1 still on 4.1.2 when I picked up the Ham2 in July, so updating isn't a priority.
I just want a device that works, is stable and has a great battery life. Ham2 fits that to a T.
I don't need bells and whistles, I don't play games. I use this as a tool for work. All my service calls are handled through a web portal,
I do a ton of email, text, scanning bar codes, few dozen photos of broken equipment etc. The OS on the device means nothing, as long as it is STABLE.I don't have time for FC's, reboots, lock ups, dropped signals etc.
Stable, battery life, good camera, clear screen, THAT is job #1 for a device.
As long as my Ham2 works, I'll keep it. Even if they did release an OS update, I'd hold off for at least a month, to make sure it was
rock solid stable before I were to install it.

I will say, it will be hard to replicate the Mate 2 battery life on any other phone for a couple of years, I'd presume. While you can certainly get a better screen and a faster phone, there's nothing on the market that even comes close battery-wise. I can get 72 hours uptime with 9 hours on screen routinely on the Mate 2. The people who have good life with the Note are getting ~20 hours uptime with 6 hours on screen.
I seem to have been getting decreased battery life, even with constant app killing, scanning, etc. so if I do switch I don't think it'll make too much of a difference.
Plus, if I do go for a Note 3, it has wireless charging... and a removable battery...

my battery has been perfect still. I get 2 days out of it on normal profile. and I had wireless charging on my G pro and it sucks trust me. it's not there yet

Ordered one this week let's see how it is or will return to newegg. Will be costing me less than $200 after I get rid of newegg and net10 gift cards.

Waiting....For Now
Have decided to go back to my S3 as my daily driver. While I love the size and battery life there are just a few too many quirks that aggravate me, and one item that will be a show stopper in the near future.
1. 3rd party camera apps aren't working for me....the flash timing doesn't sync up with the shutter so you end up with dark pictures even though the phone does the double flash to focus and reduce red eye.
2. Lockscreen...ugh. Stock is nasty and the way the kernel works, replacements (I've tried a dozen plus) have delays that flash the homescreen before kicking in.
3. Screen resolution...yes, it's 720p but Huawei somehow twerked the configuration to where it's not properly recognized by many apps, especially Themer/MyColorScreen won't recognize.
4. Notifications...even with apps identified as "protected", i.e. they're not supposed to be killed when the screen goes off, seem to get cached/suspended and notifications stop.
5. Speaker...for media it does OK but as a speaker phone? Can't hear people on the other end even in a quiet room with nothing but ambient noise (yes, I'm deaf as all get out but the S3 speaker is so much better).
6. SD Card...has the damn restrictions associated with 4.3, apps like Zooper widget etc. that can back-up settings are only able to store to internal memory, not external SD. *This is from my experience so there may be something I'm missing to fix this.
7. Back-up...the stock back-up seems to work ok and a lot has been fixed with TWRP...BUT there seems to be too many issues and with nandroid/titanium not working from what I've read I have decided rooting and modding with exposed/busybox hacks is too risky for now.
8. The show stopper...My company is going to enforce encryption on BYODs soon to access email, etc. Ran encryption on the phone, looked successful, but when went to validate it failed then when I restarted the phone it went back to being unencrypted. I know 4.3 can be a bit tricky with encryption but my device is now marked as "unsupported" by my IT and will not be able to access environments.
Keeping.
Still love the screen and the battery life.
If the Mate 7 comes available next year for the U.S. market for under $500 that'll be my next phone.

Keeping . It's the best device I've had , especially considering the price/performance ratio. I knew going into this purchase that the kit kat promise wasn't credible. If you want updates spend $600+ . This device fits the bill for a lot of consumers as is . Including myself . I have devices on kit kat and the experience on the HAM2 isn't hindered at all by the 4.3 OS . At least not for me , this thing is rock solid with outrageous battery life . What's the point of having bleeding edge specs with the newest OS if it doesn't even last a regular day ?? Always looking for a charge is so annoying . With this thing i don't even have a battery indicator percentage turned on , because no matter what i can't use up all the juice in one day even if i tried . I get at least 10 hours of on screen time per charge. Who knows, maybe Huawei is gonna fire back with a positive reply after their horrendous announcement . They've been very quiet on their social platforms , maybe they're trying to work something out with the big boys over in China . Just some thoughts .
Im kind of stuck (again) on which Android phone to get.
I watched MWC to see if anything was gonna be released that catches my eye and at my price range but (AFAIK) nothing.
My price range is maxed at 400 euros. The less the better. Also, I need a phone that has XDA development almost nonstop. I want to be able to modify the ROM whenever I want. If it doesnt have microSD, at LEAST 32GB. If it does, I guess I can squeeze by with 16GB. Besides that.....I dont really think I have much other needs.
My choices are:
OnePlus One - I was really going for this phone on Tuesday but just the horrible stories I keep hearing about customer support really push me back. Recently, I heard the story of someone waiting about 17 days since he started the issue to when they finally returned the phone to him. 17 complete days. The phone is cheap, powerful, and all that but if you have a problem...
Nexus 5 - Before the OnePlus One, I was in love with this phone. Awesome all arounder which can still hold its weight. I love that laziness factor of leaving my phone on the table and just charging it wirelessly. The 2GBs are standard with midrange phones but people tend to complain about its battery life. Im not sure if it is that bad or not. Plus, I am having trouble finding stock (I found a 32GB black for about 359.99 € which isnt bad all things considered)
I dont know which to get or if there are other options to look at. I almost desperate! If someone could help me out
Alternatives Ive been told as well are the LG G3 (€427.20) and the Sony Xperia Z2 (€359.00).
Z2 looks nice G3 too expensive for what I get.

From what I've seen and read so far on pixel 3, it's scary. This is coming from note7 user who kept the phone for years. I love note 9 but I don't want it, or any other Sammy, or lg or another phone. I want Google, seams like a perfect fit, and something new. I've been with Samsung for a long time. Apple is way too expensive and after these pixel issues I'd love to own XS but I'm just not an ios guy.
These Google problems are scary because I did place an order of $1275 cnd. I was ok with notch and 4gb ram but now seeing all this crap, do I really want to deal with all that? I feel Ike google did not give a sh.. One of those students instead of studying for an exam they just said fcuk it, I'll go with what I know...
Sucks, truly sucks. I wanted the phone so bad.
Anyone else in the same boat? Thinking of canceling or worried about buying an expensive phone and then regretting it.

I was a bit worried about regretting it after spending a lot. Considered cancelling my order a few times. Went with the Pixel 3 after 3 years of a Nexus 5X. I know this isn't the experience everyone has had but I love it. I haven't had any of the issues people have been talking about or noticed any kind of lag or hiccup yet. I honestly think that in a few months all the negative comments and concerns will blow over and it will be regarded as one of the best phones available but maybe I'm wrong.

You're brought up two issues:
1. If you're wanting to know if you'll be happy using a Pixel after using Samsung for so long, the answer depends on how much you value all the extra software features that are built into Samsung devices. If you love them and use them all the time, the Pixel will disappoint because it is bare bones Android. If you don't care about those features and just want a simple UI with fast updates, then you'll love the Pixel.
2. If you're wanting to know if these early "issues" are deal breakers, then it really comes down to hardware vs software. If the issues you are concerned about are hardware related, then there's nothing that can be done and you would be better served by a different device. If the issues you are concerned about are software related, then buy the phone with confidence. You may never see these issues because they don't affect everyone, and if you do, they will likely be fixed in the updates that Google pushes every month. So you won't even have to wait long.
Either way, life is too short to regret a phone purchase.

My biggest and I mean the biggest concern with any phone is phone lag.
Pixel fits my bill.
I love s8 s9, etc but I'm okay with not having the best display, curve screen, no notch. I'm even okay rocking p3Xl even when if baseless s10 with In display finger print and camera comes out. I'll be okay. Because smooth experience is above it all. Ofc I'm basing my desision on p3, with wireless charging, water proving etc.. Stuff which phone already has. Took Google apple a while but they got there.
It's hard to pay $1275 for a phone and hear speakers sound different, speakers make vibration, lines on display but could be replacement, worranty work etc.
More importantly is software.
Apps getting shut down, glitches, ram management fiasco.
I started to think, well if p3 xl shuts down all apps to save ram and I find a way around it to keep apps running in the background and that will cause the phone to glitch or think more than that really takes me away from smooth Android experience. Ofc apps automatically closing and me have to restart Netflix or YouTube isn't a smooth experience either.
I don't care bout battery life, or memory space. I also don't play games. I'm worried bout basic options of use now being compromised.
May be I'm paranoid...

P3 is killing apps because Google sloppy optimization /buggy software not because of lack of RAM. P1 and P2 don't have these issues and all have 4GB.
The strongest recommendation I can think of is wait until Google gets it together. Google has a dubtious track of fixing bugs even on Pixel.
Yea, even I'm having thoughts of regretting to pre-order Pixel 3 64GB Clearly White, haven't received it yet tho. Indian users will get it after Oct 31st(official release date).
My concerns are that will it be worth it to spend Rs. 66k (approx 900 USD) for a phone when I can get OnePlus 6T for around Rs. 38k-40k (approx 530 USD) with better specs like 8GB RAM and 3700 mAh battery. Though I really like the way Pixel looks and it's software is also great with AI. And the camera is the best part.
BTW I'm jumping from a 5yr old Moto G to this so any new phone would feel great to me. Currently I get the option to cancel my Pixel 3 order. So I'll wait and see the 6T, then decide to cancel the order or not.

My biggest and I mean the biggest concern with any phone is phone lag.

I love s8 s9, etc but I'm okay with not having the best display, curve screen, no notch. I'm even okay rocking p3Xl even when if baseless s10 with In display finger print and camera comes out. I'll be okay. Because smooth experience is above it all. Ofc I'm basing my desision on p3, with wireless charging, water proving etc.. Stuff which phone already has. Took Google apple a while but they got there.
It's hard to pay $1275 for a phone and hear speakers sound different, speakers make vibration, lines on display but could be replacement, worranty work etc.
More importantly is software.
Apps getting shut down, glitches, ram management fiasco.
I started to think, well if p3 xl shuts down all apps to save ram and I find a way around it to keep apps running in the background and that will cause the phone to glitch or think more than that really takes me away from smooth Android experience. Ofc apps automatically closing and me have to restart Netflix or YouTube isn't a smooth experience either.
I don't care bout battery life, or memory space. I also don't play games. I'm worried bout basic options of use now being compromised.
May be I'm paranoid...

I did not realize there were two separate forums for the phone.
I canceled. It's still the phone I want, but approaching the end of 2018 this is not an $800 phone. It'll probably be priced correctly come Thanksgiving.
Been using mine since the 18th. I too, was a bit worried, however I've not experienced any of the issues.. I'm surprised really.
After using the P1 & P2, I know that they'll squash these issues in coming updates, by December's update all of these little bugs will probably be worked out. Just like with the P2.
I'm sticking with it. I love it. I didn't think it would be a big upgrade over the P2, but it really is IMO.

Just another data point - I got the Pixel 3, came over from Samsung and LG phones (S7 and V30), and I'm happier with this phone than any phone I've previously owned (maybe a bit of hyperbole, but I am very impressed with the phone!). I haven't had any of the problems others have mentioned, and the UI and smoothness of operation are wonderful. I've only snapped a handful of photos so far, but the results are amazing to me. Battery life hasn't been as great as the V30, but it still gets me through a full day and evening, so I'm cool with that.
I was constantly frustrated with waiting for Samsung or LG to release updates, so I'm eager to see how rapidly Google iterates.
I definitely wouldn't cancel.
I've had mine for a week, been back and forth a dozen times a day, got an rma, packed it up, unpacked, packed, unpacked, used for the weekend. Right this minute I'm thinking it goes back tomorrow, but the camera is almost worth keeping it.
My biggest thought is that any camera would blow me away coming from a oneplus 3, and the camera on the 6t might be plenty good enough.
The $50 pre-order credit helps, and it sounds like the 6t won't have wireless charging. My op3 port is almost worn out, have to hold it just right, so I'm wary of another phone without wireless.
I have a camping trip with my daughter in a couple weeks, so if I return, I'm not getting anything new in time for that,with the back orders on the pixel and the shipping time on the 6t, unless tmo has them on the shelf within a week of launch.
So now I'm thinking I'll keep it.
Another positive review for the Pixel 3. Coming from the Samsung S7, the Pixel is a big step up. Really like the minimalist, elegant look, smaller bezels, lightning responsiveness, feel in the hand, unbloated Android, great camera, first in line for updates, and Project Fi. I've had a couple of quirks with some features, but none of the issues getting so much attention. Battery life has significantly improved over the last week (adaptive power management?), and is much better than the S7 even with AOD and bluetooth on all the time. Easily the best phone I've owned by a wide margin. Understand people have different priorities and usage patterns, but I'd advise not bailing without trying it.
With all this upheaval, what do you think about grabbing one while they're going cheap, used and good condition?
Im aware of the circumstances and that Huawei banning bootloader unlocking makes the situation even worse. If we could find a way to unlock the bootloader by unofficial means, I'd be happy to pick one up if there's decent 3rd party developer support
Could this be an opportunity or just a waste of time and money for us?
I've just bought one for £520 and it's only a month old. I'm prepared to take the risk for such a good phone and hopefully this Trump crap will come to an end soon
I have one sealed here myself but debating if I should have opted for Mate 20 Pro instead for worthwhile savings
Things could possibly reverse back to normal, if the ban goes full on, it could come to a total of $11m lost of business for the states with the companies combine, plus other possible complications, even regardless of that, and full ban on huawei, existing devices are not effected going by what Google have said

i have a p30 pro love the phone but i am thinking about getting rid of it becaues of the hole ban thing i buy my phone off line every year and just tread my old one in so just looking at it from a money aspect

I agree. I'm watching a few variants on ebay, mainly the VOG-L04 model. If prices continue to fall, I might end up with more than one.

I just picked mine up about to days ago. And I paid premium price for it. I was looking for the best battery life, performance and camera. I'm not really a fan of Samsung. I have no complaints with this phone. Other then I have a defective figure print sensor.
Bought a new one about a week ago. Could not be much happier overall. I don't necessarily need Android Q. The phone is working fine as it is. However this might be the last Huawei I'll buy depending on what happens in the future. It's very unclear future for Huawei now. For current phones I don't care though. This phone has the hardware I need that no one else has.
No regrets for me too. I bought it after the news came out. P30 pro is already a futuristic device. Huawei can always use AOSP and we can use alternative for Google services

I picked one up over the weekend, new. I'm not too bothered about the crap - it's a great phone, will get Q, will probably get security updates, and will definitely get Play store updates - that's good enough for me.
And it's a matter of time before either of the countries blink and things go back to normal
Well, I just picked one up brand new here in Canada. Coming from a Pixel 3xl. Don't regret it one bit. Nothing wrong with the pixel at all, but it fell short in a couple areas within the camera that the p30 pro delivers on. I don't really care about the situation happening, I believe it will get resolved.
I bought my P30 Pro before the ban for full price.
I love the fact that it has a best in class camera that's the most versatile in the industry, 2 day battery life, the fastest charging speeds and just its overall gorgeous design.
I have no regrets. I don't take politics seriously and think the news and media puts this in a scaremongering light as Google and various US-based companies wouldn't want to lose out on potential revenue and business.
Can you guys imagine If Huawei and Honor, Xiaomi, OPPO etc. Get an agreement to make one OS to all chinese Smartphones, this way the devs will forget about Play Store, cause only Pixel Will left ... Since even Motorola and Nokia are from China now! Is pretty much the end of Android!

On the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka, Trump said “U.S. companies can sell their equipment to Huawei,” without going into detail. “We’re talking about equipment where there’s no great national security problem with it,” Trump continued. It’s not clear what this means for now, but it’s likely Huawei will be able to acquire basic components like Qualcomm processors and Google’s Android OS.
