Switching songs while phone is locked - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Hi, I'm planning to buy this phone but I've got a question.
Can you switch songs though holding down the volume up/down button while the phone is locked?
This is quite crucial to me, since my old Oneplus One got this feature but my current phone, the Honor 7X doesn't and it annoys me a lot e.g. while driving.
I'd be thankful if someone could test this for me since I didn't find any mentioning of this in the reviews I read/watched.
Thank you in advance :highfive:

Surely, there must be an app in PlayStore that can do this?

Probably not. I am AMAZED that pocket skip is still not standard.
But don't worry, first thing I will do when I get my Poco and unlock it is to make this mod (via Magisk probably so OTA is still simple), like I have always done in the past

Wait, That's sounds like too much work. Why don't you use Headphone buttons to change the songs. My ordinary headphones has only one button but I can still Single press to Play/Stop and Double press to change the songs. Surely there are better designed headphones that can do more?

What if headphones don't have any button at all ? (without mic headphones)

I almost never use headphones, but when I do, it's no problem to just look at my phone and choose the next song. The irritating part is that I simply can't do that while driving :silly:.

That's the case, I connect my phone to my car's stereo through aux (simple cord with no buttons) and place my phone down next to me. The most convenient way to switch songs while driving was to feel for the volume buttons on my phone and hold them down.
So I guess this phone can't do that natively. With my Honor 7X, some roms brought this feature with them. I think even flashing AOSP enabled this feature for me but I'm sticking with the default rom for the battery life.
Thanks for your answers and looking forward to a solution :fingers-crossed:

X10 In Call Volume

Anyone else's In call volume very low? even though its on maximum volume? I cant seem to hear very well unless I put the phone on loudspeaker. any ideas on this one?
cheers
Yup. I am on .14 and it is awful. I hear the .16 update fixes it though. There are so many good things about this phone that I couldnt care less about this issue though at the moment.
Nope. I have .16 and it's just as bad.

Cheers mate, I was just about to follow the debranding tutorial to update to 1.6 to improve my In- Call volume.
I have also heard that 1.6 offers an improvement in this area.

I'm actually thinking of unbranding my phone just because I can. But it's just to get rid of like one or two pre-installed programs.
i am on firmware 1.6 and it doesnt solve anything, its really really bad! the volume is ridiculous I can hardly hear anyone unless I go into a room where theres no noise at all! SE need to fix this
volume at max is not even iphone at half
Volume is terrible, i keep squeezing the phone into my ear.... what i don't understand is who ever listened to the phone and said ooooh this is good, how is he not FIRED
if this phone ever gets released in the US with the same problem i am complaining to the FCC. it seems someone to do something about it, (remember what happened to Toyota?)
I honestly dont think a firmware can increase/fix the volume issue, i honetly think the speaker is at its limits, i even hear distortion some times, telling me my volume way to loud for the speaker capacity, although i can BARLEY hear something.
Terrible
Yea, I cant say that the volume is loud, but I found out a solution that works for me.
Actually the screen seems to pick up the vibrations from the speaker, so if you instead of holding your ear against the speaker move your ear slightly down so that you actually have your ear on the top part of the screen instead... then the volume is much better!!
Just a tip.
And for SE: I noticed that only the higher pitched frequencies causes distort in the small speaker. Analyze the speaker and identify which frequencies that causes distortion and filter those frequencies out. Sacrifice those frequencies for a louder volume!
Regards // R
I read somewhere that they put the phone in test mode and forced the volume higher and worked.
Which would mean the hardware is capable of higher volume its just bad software.
This issue bugs me big time, and I'm quite dissapointed :-/
Any news on SonyEricsson solving this issue?
I've read that the X10 mini does have a much better loudspeaker. How can this be when it's an even smaller phone?
I strongly(!) hope that SE will fix it! A phone that is useless for phone calls? Than I can buy an iPod touch :-(
there is a 'volume hack' app but works only for rooted devices.
same problem..can hardly hear when on the street or in public place.
i enable speaker..and keep the loudspeaker near my ear.

Personaly I don't think that this is the way you have to make calls with a top of the line smartphone ;-)
Does anybody know if Sonyericsson is aware of this low volume issue?
Do they want to adress this issue with a soft- or hardwarefix?
Hopefully the update will come soon

Actually, the number of problems is far, far, far, far, faaaaaaar less than you think it is. Being on a board for people needing technical support for their phones will make you think there's a lot more anger and problems than there really are. It's the nature of the internet.
Think about it, if there were really that many shopstopping problems, the phone would have gone through a recall by now. You can't let this forum (or any other tech support forum) give you any sort of indication of percentage of users with problems.
Same problem here... German o2 X10i (R2BA026). Speaker volume set to max. but still can't hear the other side It's a shame...

[Q] Poor sound quality of music through headphones

Hi,
I really hope i dont have a faulty device, but the sound through my headphones (which have been working a day before on my beloved htc hero perfectly) is rather week, 75% maybe of the top volume i could reach on my hero.
I've already tried this in the default music app, and also on Jango Radio (internet music app).
the sound is rather week and also kind of not crystal clear.
is anybody else having this problem? and what can i do about it?
thanks alo!
Yes, actually I have the same thing, and I think a software problem with the music player, it stops when I raise the volume or when i press on the 5.1 ch icon or sometimes on it's own

Working fine!!
I've been using other earphones, but when i tried the one coming with the phone......blast!!!! that's y it was giving me problems!
Super dooper!!
sorry SGS II i underestimated u!!
Definitely the best phone ever up till now
I also noticed really bad quality with the stock headset.. After trying with the headphones from an iPod, the sound quality was much better.. So i guess the problem is really the stock headset.
The stock headphones are pretty bad. I don't get low volume. In fact, I get large amounts of distortion on higher volumes when using headphones. The sound quality is poor, but after tweaking with an EQ (PowerAMP!) it can be some-what salvaged.
There are also options in music player itself (equaliser and effects). For me it is sufficient to improve quality to desired level.
Is audio level & quality same as galaxy S
I am confused between Galaxy sII & xperia neo. I am shifting from Galaxy S, I got the phone refunded from samsung before this I have a wave, that also was refunded by samsung. Its obvious that I am a bit afraid going for samsung this time but still feel they are the best. I got this info from research that Galaxy SII doesn't have a good audio quality in comparison with the legendry Galaxy S. I can't afford to take risk for a 30K phone if it doesn't play good music because carrying an Ipod is virtually impossible if u already have S II in ur pocket. Thats the reason I have narrowed down to galaxy S II or Xperia Neo. But I need to confirm if its not even to galaxy s level in terms of audio quality and volume levels, plz help me folks, I am waiting for some helping replies and plz don't blind fold urself being loyal to ur device becoz my respect for Samsung is immortal, its just that I can't spend 30K blindly. I will have to consider the music segment.

Just do a fine tuning on your volume settings with the 'Samsung Secret Codes'
See this thread for guidance: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069015
Although for hearing music I had no problems, it was necessary for me to boost the headset volume for voice calls.
oh common, stop with this volume settings with Samsung secret codes, that has been posted by many here that this thing doesn't work. The numbers are re setting themselves back to original. The overall volume is just too low on this phone. I hope the 2.3.4. will adjust it higher.
Highly recommended:
To get clear sound from your Galaxy S II, simply install the free version of the brilliant "Equalizer"-app from Market. It has a five-band equalizer. From there you can increase the levels of the desired frequencies, treble, bass, midrange etc. The Galaxy S II has far to low default treble. This app takes care of that No root, no hassle.
There is also a paid version, but it is just needed if you want more than one custom preset.
But What about the levels of volume? Is it at par with the old Galaxy S?
... .

Well, I'm sorry for your insoluble problem, but I effectively fixed my volume problem in a permanent way (with various reboots with unchanged config after tweaking) using these codes.
I do apologise for my useless advice. I was only trying to help.

Actually, I've solved my volume problems following the guide of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741012 . and not the other one that I mentioned above. Unfortunately, it seems that it applies only for voice and video call volume, not for the media player. That said, I have to say that my music player is very loud, either using the headset or the speaker. I'm using the KE7 stock ROM.
Best of luck for you all guys.
the link you provide is for the old Galaxy S1, and even there guys complain about low level of EAR SPEAKER, and that the tweaked numbers reverse back to original after phone restart or re boot. So my question is: how did you make the new numbers to stay on your phone? I am using same KE7 and stock firmware as well. I can't raise the volume by these codes at all, doesnt stay not even 2 phone calls. Can you reveal the magic how did you do it? ( no offense to you at all, I am just helpless because I can't barely hear people calling me, driving in my car - Mercedes btw...)
Thank you for your help
Most stores (in Sweden anyway) have the phone so you can try it yourself, just go to a shop where either a manager carries it or the store has a demo of it and bring your headphones! You can't go wrong with that!
I have a really nice piece of Denon's (AH-D1001) and even though the phone can't power as well as the older galaxy s, I get a really natural good sound with mine and it's just loud enough. No EQ needed.

Yes, the original thread was for the ancient SGS1, nevertheless, the command still works for the SGS2 (at least for my device). Before I did the 'fine tuning' on my volume settings (following the SGS1 guide on the mentioned thread), I could barely hear the other person's voice in a phone call while using the headset. Now I adjust the volume around 70-75% for making phone calls using the headset, which is more than enough for me. I didn't do anything different than the guide says, and I have no idea why it doesn't work for your device.

So no notification sounds through headphones?

What's up with that? Even with headphones plugged in the notification sounds go through the external speaker?
Silliness.
Buuuuuuump no one?

I would like to know the answer to this as well, my previous HTC when headphones are plugged in all sounds including notifications went through them, yet the S3 sends notifications to the external speaker, surely this is a bug?
It's absurd and not the only Samsung phone that does it. The thing that strikes me as odd is there aren't many people that seem to care about it. Google searches hardly brings up **** and this thread has gotten like 60 views but 1 response...which is you with the same question.

That's ok, but when your phone is in your pocket how do you know if you have a text/email unless you put it on vibrate?
On the top screen of your phone you will see a small i which stands for notification, i dont know whats it called but the settings menu on top of your phone drag it down and click notifications then the letter i will disappear now all notifications will alert you normally via sound like call and texts.

oops i meant i put it to vibrate. however if u do this there will be a slight pause in the music when a notification comes in(i think it only applies to certain functions like sms. whatsapp nofs dont pause my music)
I can't believe no one cares about this... I still want to hear my notifications over my headphones... Work email, personal email, specific ringtones for individual calls and texts... the list goes on. I've owned Mostly HTC, but even my Palm Pre and older Sanyo phones were smart enough to mute the external speaker when connecting headphones.
Bizarre.
I don't know if this has been explained prior to my response. Notifications work fine over blue tooth.

The issue was never Bluetooth. The problem is, you can have you headphones plugged in while sitting in the library, and if you get a notification, it will blast the entire room. Similarly, if you are in your car, the notifications don't make it to your aux port, and also, if you use the aux port, Bluetooth will not play the audio simultaneously. That's crap. On CM-based ROMs this works just fine. Definitely not a hardware issue. Sure sucks for people who use hands free kits in their cars
Same issue here with the external speaker not being muted when earphones plugged in, and unlike previous comments, issue persists when using bluetooth. Currently using Omega v32.1.
This problem affects my Galaxy Note 2 as well. Wow. How does no one else care about this? I don't understand why people would put their phone on silent just because they are listening to music. CM10 sort of fixed this issue on my GS3, but I can't use that on the gn2 because of all the custom stylus integration.
It's definitely an android thing and I can't believe that in almost 2 years since it's been logged, no traction appears to have been made.
Did a quick search through the developer forums to see if anyone has made a mod, but couldn't find anything. Does anyone know, if one the many talented developers on XDA, have done anything here?
EDIT: Turns out there is an app already out there to solve this, but interesting that it's not standard in the OS.

You could try SoundAbout, but as ScrapMaker states, it may cause issues with the sound cutting in/out using just the earpiece.
I wasn't going to try using it, but have over the last few days and it seems to work ok for me. Give it a go and see if it works (as I haven't been able to find anything else on the play store yet)...
I just got the galaxy note 2 yestersay and noticed the headphine issue today while working on the motorcycle. With the headohines on I can't hear the phone ring or notificationsn. what I hear instead is the music I'm listening to go mute the length of the ringing while anyone around me hears my ringing which comes off a little rude on my part and a bit annoying that it doesn't just ring through the headset.
I'm going over the settings and searching the Web like crazy but not finding an actual solution just work arounds about muting the ringer and/our putting it on vibe, neither of which is what I'm wanting or works for me.

According to one source the volume buttons are referred to the ground pin and the play/pause button to the microphone... mind you, this contradicts what I've always known (that buttons apply different resistances in parallel to the mic)

[Q] Voice Search on Z Ultra doesn't work well?

I really liked using the "Okay Google Everywhere" on my previous device and I was looking forward to using it on the Z Ultra, but ever since I first activated it I am finding that it gets my voice queries wrong a lot and that I have to hold the phone a lot closer to my face.
Is there a fix for this or is it simply because of the water-proofing that covers the microphones?

I suspect you have it correct. I've not had too many issues while using it (other than battery drain when 'everywhere' is enabled), it even copes with my weird NZ accent.
It'll be intresting to see if others have issues with the 'waterproof' mic

How close do you have to hold it to your face? On my old phone (Atrix HD), I could trigger a voice search with my phone lying on my desk about 3 feet away from me, but the Z Ultra needs to be held about five inches from my face for it to pick up my commands accurately.
I use AutoVoice so voice search is something I use a lot.
normally use it in hand, so about 1+ ft

Hmm, how loud do you have to speak for it to register? I'm used to speaking in a normal/quiet tone if I hold it one foot away, but for the Z Ultra I need to raise my voice a little bit higher.
The microphone that receives voice command input is the bottom one, while the top one does not react. I wonder why? I would think the top microphone should be the one receiving voice commands.
Do you think it could be possible to enable both microphones on the phone to listen after the initial "Okay, Google" is performed, or would that not work/cause problems?

I looked that up and saw that, too, but the Z Ultra's mixer_paths.XML doesn't have the Analog Input Devices anywhere on it.
Here it is. It has some microphone devices listed, though:
http://pastebin.com/BHZ0Z7t1
Also, Pimped Kernel has options to change the audio volume gain for the microphone, but it doesn't seem to help.
Alright, so, I found this thread. Turns out you do have to edit the mixer_paths.XML. It's just not the same variables that need to be changed as the OnePlus. Following the thread helped the voice search on my phone a lot.
I'm posting this for future reference.
I flashed the Lollipop GPe port and now the microphone is wonderfully sensitive. I can activate voice search from across the room.
It's way better than how it was before on KitKat custom ROMs, even after I edited the mixer_paths.XML. I don't know if the stock ROM and KitKat GPe are also this sensitive, but they probably are.
Anyone know why this is?
I really would like the microphone to be this good on CM 12 and other custom ROMs.
My guess is Sony uses special drivers that are probably not open source for the microphone, since it also has that noise canceling mic.
Update: Mic back to all it's former glory
On the latest Resurrection Remix Lollipop build with the latest Lollipop PA Nano Gapps, the mic is perfectly sensitive again.
I'm pretty happy about this so I just thought I'd share that here.
I don't know who fixed it, Google or a dev, but thank you to whoever it was.
