QUESTION: About Samsung Antennae - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Sooooo I have Galaxy Note 8 factory unlocked version... no carrier.
I have been using it with T-mobile, since March
The experience, connectivity-wise has been very bad compared to my T-mobile Branded Galaxy S8+
I have T-mobile Cell tower extender... and i always got LTE 4-5 bars in my house, on the GS8+.
But with the GN8, its like it doesn't even touch the antennae.
I live in the Phoenix area, and even that is a chore, as I rarely see 5-bars LTE... regardless of where I am driving (I do uber, so on Friday nights, I am all over the valley).
I thought, perhaps, if I downloaded the T-mobile Oreo Rom and moved from the Factory to that, that that would be the difference... but it looks like same antennae connectivity.
Is there are separate firmware for T-MO antennae that I need to flash?
Thanks for all of your help!!!

bump

I would take your device to a Samsung Service Center and let them take a look at it

Worth getting Titan on T-Mobile?

Just recently discovered this phone and love it!
However, i'm on T-Mobile. I'm not one of those people that have to have fast speeds on a phone and I'm usually around wi-fi.
Would this phone be worth getting and then using it on T-Mobile?
Hello! Maybe this one helps you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_IrKOXeZ7w
i have been using mine on t-mobile for a couple months now and it does suck not having 3g all the time. cant download certain things or some apps simply wont work running on edge when your out and about. works excellently on wifi. i would say if you get it for a good price do it. the screen size is awesome and its a fast phone. but i wouldnt drop $600 on it for it to run on edge. i won mine at a windows phone event night and unlocked it for $30

I totally agree with the statement from shamoozoo. I did the same thing about two months ago. I bought an AT&T phone and paid the price ($16.00 US) to get the unlock code to make it work on T-Mobile. Everthing works well except the data. Only getting Edge as the maximum data speed. Someone wrote in another thread about a pending T-Mob/AT&T data roaming agreement that will give us faster speeds and that it'll happen around the summer of this year so crossing my fingers on that one. Also, waiting for the unbranding ROM which will get rid of the AT&T "stuff" on my Titan and give me the internet sharing (tethering) for free.
t.mobile were not doing the deal I wanted so went with vodaphone. When using WiFi everything is instant. Don't know if it is the same with other networks. Even playing games online is instant. I love this phone.
HTC Titan x310a (AT&T) on T-Mobile...
Hey there. I too am a T-Mobile subscriber, using the AT&T branded version of the HTC Titan, and here's my 2¢; When I saw the announcement for this phone, I was blown away, and just HAD to have it. I had a buddy who's with AT&T, and was eligible for a phone upgrade, but didn't want to use it, because he liked his current phone, so he allowed me to use it, so I got my Titan for $200. The biggest drawback, which others have mentioned here, is that, due to the AT&T radio firmware, which is incompatible with T-Mobile's 3G & 4G network, I'm stuck at 2G (EDGE). Also, I cannot use T-Mobile's Visual Voicemail. Other than these 2 issues, the Titan is phenomenal! Now, here's the good news; XDA-Developer members Cotulla, and the Dark Forces Team are currently working on a HardSPL & custom ROM for these incredible phones! Once they are finished, and make these tools available to the community, we will be able to flash custom Windows Phone ROMs, and different radio firmware, which will allow our Titans to use T-Mobiles
3G & 4G network bands! So my opinion is thus; the HTC Titan is an EXCELLENT phone to use on any GSM network. Good luck!
Hello,
I am in the same situation, I got the ATT Titan activated on T mobile and I get only Edge signal. Let us know when the Rom is done, I will for. I got My Titan free so nothing to lose but will like to have working on 4G.
Thank you.
I don't think alternate ROMs will get you 3G on T-Mobile. Until proven, that's just wishful thinking.
Radio Firmware doesn't change the actual Bands the phone uses its simply a hardware limitation. When and if T-Mobile does data roaming with AT&Ts 3G then yea you will have 3G/HSPA+ until then your stuck with EDGE until they light it up in your area.
And even if software controlled the radio bands we would first need compatible tmobile firmware for the Titan that would work with WP7 very restrictive OS.
The only way an AT&T-branded Titan will ever get 3G on T-Mobile USA is if and when T-Mo refarms their spectrum to use 1900MHz band for UMTS.

T-Mo Users - Would you run an Unlocked ATT Note or the official T-Mobile hanset?

Good Morning!
I'm in the midst of trying to decide the best course to follow - I use T-Mobile prepaid for the data / messaging plans since I rarely talk on the phone; with the official T-Mobile branded handset coming out next week I'm stuck deciding whether to buy an unlocked ATT Galaxy Note or wait it out for the T-Mobile one to be available. I don't plan to sign any contracts so I'll have to pay outright (street price or store depending)
I know the major difference between the ATT Note and TMO version is the fact the ATT one has the 21 mbps hspa+ antennas versus the TMO one having the full fledged 45mbps antennas
while 5mb d/l is nothing to scoff at (ample for my use) I suppose more is better - but is it worth owning a 'more flexible' hanset that can run tmo/att/lte versus a tmo only handset?
thanks for your help in deciding!
Sorry Mods, as you can see I read more than I post - this can move to the Q&A forum if you see fit
wait for the tmobile one
you wont need to flash no modem to get 3G/4G service.
You also won't have to worry about charging the ATT version every 3 hours and worry about the phone heating up. I had the ATT one and I hated it for those two reasons.

Many members have had troubles with flashing the t-mobile modem on the att note.
I had t-mobile data plans for many years and liked the speed and no contract.
I would wait one week for sure.

the TMO version won't be any different, if you had to charge the ATT ver. every 3 hrs, which is absurd, mine last me most of the day on one charge, you will also have to do the same thing with the TMO ver. since the specs are the same and so is the battery.

Don't mind me, but after 4 months and avery ROM available, this hasn't happened to me. At worst I get 8 hours, but that's not stop phone, text, ebook, facebook, nand-backup ROM flashing and restore.
OK, the question: As I said I've been on the Note with tmobile for 4 months. data is poor....not horrible, but poor - but I'm at home on wifi most o the time, so it shouldn't bother me. Shouldn't is the operative word - thinks like this drive me to distraction.
So.....if I find the note 2 is being released, I'm going to hope t-mobile will offer it. Don't get too excited, it was something like 8 months between S, S2 & S3, so sometime in Q2 '13 seems about right.
Of course I'd have to take it on a leap of faith on after the announcement of the note 2 that T-Mo might get it and 8 months is a long time, assuming I'm anywhere near right.
Oh, my druthers: If everything were equal, I'd want the T-Mo version (cost wise).

The Note is pentaband, so techincally both the ATT and Tmo models are capable of running on each others' networks (provided you flash the correct modem).
The main reason some folks will probably stick with the ATT Note (myself included) is because of grandfathered data plans. For example, I still have the T-Zones data plan which I've had since the voicestream days...and basically get full unlimited internet (3G speeds) at under $10 a month. Granted, the speeds are probably not as fast as the normal $20-$30 plans, it suits my purposes just fine.
If you have one of the more recent standard Tmo plans, then I suggest going for the Tmo note, as it'll basically work right out of the box for you. I'm sticking with my ATT Note and hopefully when the Tmo radio gets leaked here it'll fix the terrible upload speeds and bad voice connection I experience now. *fingers crossed*
I've been spared from the terrible voice problems so many have experienced, just typical data slow downs.
Of course one could buy from cl or eBay, which would void the warranty, then again I'all be doing that on my own.
thanks all for the advice and tips - i did lots of reading as well into handling tmo radios etc to get the ATT version to run TMO properly
I did buy a ATT Note yesterday (the price was right) and I figured why not try it out right?
the Note is already running the S3 Rom with a few tweaks iirc, the seller had a local service mod it a few weeks back
without flashing the modem, just inputting the network unlock code (cellunlocker had it in 2hrs) a speedtest on 4G showed only ~150k d/l speed and after flashing the icsblaze.zip modem I had ~400k d/l speeds, so that's a little imrovement...
If i can get a solid 2mb d/l I'll be fine since I'm around wifi pretty often, but for the times I'm not...well...
I'm in the process of dl'ing Flapjaxx's ICS build and have an assortment of ICS radios (better check if they are in fact the ICS flavors or not) to try out
Thanks again XDA! what an awesome community
I've been using ATT note on Tmo for the same reason (grandfather in tzone). I am just waiting for a solid radio coming from Tmo Note.
I'll most likely be using an unlocked one. My brother got one for free (I think it was a friends) and we unlocked it. When the T-Mo version come out he'll upgrade and I will too from my G2. I use Wi-Fi when I'm at home or anywhere that has it for that matter so I don't think the slow(er) data speeds will bother me that much. As long as calls are okay then I'm good.
T-Mobile Note also will work on AT&T HSPA+ Network.

I would wait for the tmobile version. My unlocked Note with the tmobile radio had spotty connection. One minute, I'm getting 2MB, the next serveral hours, i'm getting 112kb or it does not work at all.
Also when 4GB is running, the backside of the phone (below the camera) heats up a lot. Almost to a point I had to put the note down and let it cool off by turning off the network data. So it's working really hard to maintain 4GB and eating up the battery. It doesn't happen on wifi.
the only reason why I would want the At&t version is because of the white note and lower price.
I'm fine using my at&t version. If it's the same hardware I don't see a big reason to switch.

Only reason I would get the tmo note would be for the wifi calling feature.. Then again it might be possible to flash tmo note stock ROM on unlocked att now and have the wifi calling feature, guess we will find out the 8th or soon after

Taking my Note 2 to T-Mobile

So after years and years with Verizon, I have been mulling over the idea of going 'back' to the Big Pink [T-Mobile]. I have grown tired of the high prices and locked phones from Big Red.
When I got my Note 2 [the day it came out], I was disgusted by the logo on the home button and locked bootloader. Not to mention the V is painfully slow at rolling out ANY updates. With T-Mo's new pricing schemes it's just too hard to resist any longer. So having the Note 2 I was aware that it was a global phone but didn't carry the LTE radios for T-Mo's network. But I was also aware that APN's could be modified to work on the 'Uncarrier' network with relative success. I decided to give things a try.
I found that by modifying the APN's with APN Manager Pro, I could in-fact get around 21Mbps down and around 2 up. I have attached a screenshot of my Speedtest results. The top one is on Verizon and the bottom one is on T-Mobile using a Verizon branded Note 2.

I really just wanted to let people know that it is possible to switch to T-Mobile and keep your existing Note 2 should you so choose to do so.
Thats some pretty impressive results. I was thinking about making the same move. Unlimited data with T-mobile is sounding very tempting and with those speeds you posted it makes it even more tempting. Im just gonna have to see about the reception coverage for T-mobile to see will it wok in my area. Thanks for the post.

Network Signal İssues

I checked many forums on web and see a lot of people complaining about bad reception, call drops etc. on Galaxy s6 Edge
Also here there is 2 topic opened by members .I wrote one of them but no one gave me even a clue
My network signal really sucks, especially while on wcdma/3g mod. So one of post on web says Samsung had changed their anttenna system thats why. Some of says its about modem part.
Most of post wroten about in May and June so whats happened to this issue. How did you solve? Or what is the problem is it software or hardware related.
Thanks
I have a new 925F on T-Mobile in the US and I have also noticed this issue. Signal strength is much worse than on my prior device (HTC One M7). I have been toying with flashing the T-Mobile modem on my device and seeing what happens, but am afraid of what might happen...don't need a shiny new brick. I have tried several different ROMs, including the one from the T-Mobile sub-forum that is no longer being supported with the same results.
Anyone have any ideas, or know what would happen if I flashed the 925T modem on my 925F device?
like i said there is to possiblty causing this issue. Samsungs new antenna system or hardware problem.People were complaining about it a few months ago and ı am curious what happened their device or they used to live with it?
Have to say have the same experience... I actually carry an iphone 6 (for business reasons) as well - same network (AT&T), and without exception:
- the iphone has better reception in the same location (more bars, faster internet, more reliable internet)
- the iphone connects faster when the plane lands (and I fly alot)
- the iphone keeps reception in places where the S6 loses it
Frustrating, as I'm the opposite of an iphone fanboy, and using the phones next to each other shows me Samsung needs to do more work in this area!
The only reliable solution to SLIGHTLY improve things is to restart the phone a LOT
I have had to switch to 2g/3g only because my S6 edge has little or no signal on 4g and it uses about 3% per hour of battery on standby. I also have an iPhone 6 and both are on the same network(EE in the UK) and I never see anything under half bars on 4g but most of the time it is full bars. I have had the phone replaced and had two sim swaps but it is still no better.
The camera on the S6 is fantastic but the rest of the phone is a lagging stuttering piece of sh!t. I sold my Note 4 and Moto X 2014 a few weeks ago in preparation for the Note 5 but it is not sold in Europe. On the bright side the S6 is better than the G4 I tried for a few weeks.
today i went to service to ask replace the device, explained my issues after one hour they told me the problem solved by flashing new firmware i am sure the problem persist because i had newest firmware and flashed it before. So we have to live with it i guess its not a problem for them .
i have noticed that only Edge users complaining about it and not sure but i guess i read antenna is short on Edge.

T mobile LG v60 to ATT?

I've seen a few posts saying you can cross flash so you can move your v60 from t-mobile to att. However none of them are very clear.
I am going to have to switch from t-mobile to att as t-mobile shut down the sprint network in an area I need to be with some regularity and now has near zero coverage. Their wifi calling doesn't work well either as it registers very slowly and doesn't stay registered.
I've waited over a year for t-mobile to deliver promised coverage replacements.
It's becoming more and more a problem as I need to be in the area more often. Would appreciate any details anyone can offer. I don't want to give up my v60 yet or have to buy one.
You will it informative. But please be advised that there is no firmware available for AT&T V60. So it is not possible unless your phone is factory unlocked by carrier.
You can't unless you don't mind it being a data-only device (and I can't guarantee even that will work). AT&T has a VERY select list (I believe this is by IMEI so cross-flashing will not help) of phones they allow to use VoLTE on their network. Other carriers' phones are not among them. You MIGHT be able to beg/harass customer service to whitelist your IMEI. I think I've read about that happening, but I might be thinking of Verizon. I wouldn't count on it though. AT&T has a vested interest in making you buy a phone you can't use anywhere else. They're not interested in BYOP mercenaries who want to try out their service for a month then bounce back to TMO or Verizon.

Sure, you can crossflash the T-Mobile version with AT&T firmware regardless of the IMEI and it will work.I'm on A12 AT&T with a USC V60 and have no issues at all.It will be required to have the AT&T firmware on it for the IMS to configure properly.I did this back when AT&T shut their 3g down to work around it.

The key thing, does AT&T work in that area?AT&T and T-Mobile are currently struggling trying to get 5g fully working in all areas and so far it's been a nightmare.I'm in Nashville,TN. and it's horrible in most areas.Even down to the 4g towers are degraded and data speeds are back to 3g speeds as we speak. It's not only T-Mobile at the moment.
Where did you get the AT&T firmware? And the process to cross flash?

Yes att works. No its not 5g in either case. Too rural. T-mobile for example replaced more rhan half a dozen towers for one town in the area with two. Two. Then wondered why people had no coverage.

I have been on AT&T for almost a month about how bad the service is around my home address. We have 1 tower in about a 10 mile radius that's trying to serve at least 10,000 subscribers every day and it's failing hard.I'm doing good to get 4 mbps down and .5 up.Yes,that's a dot in front of the 5..lol..I told them point blank, why shut down 3g when you can't even handle the load with 4g alone? My response was, "we're working on 2 towers that are planned to be upgraded to 5g by the end of the year."Those 2 towers haven't worked in 8 years I know of..lol...I remember when they activated 4g and it wasn't this bad.The worst part in the US we're down to 3 carriers period.T-Mobile,AT&T,and Verizon. The rest are all MVNO's so those don't account for anything..lol..
