cellular handoff from lte to 3g on tmobile with custom rom - LG V30 Questions & Answers

So I have a note 3 and S4 that are on nougat roms. resurrection remix to be exact. I would like to get a v30 and load some aosp rom on it.
My question is, sometimes when my phone gets an incoming call, it goes to 3g (like it's supposed to because, no volte) then other times the caller can't get through at all. Like it doesn't hand off properly.
I was wondering if anyone has tmobile and a custom rom that is able to confirm this works reliably. I really would like lte data in a few areas at work, but toggling on and off is kinda redundant. So after seeing the V30 and it's rom community I'd like to get one.
Thanks so much for anyone's help!!

That is a resurrection remix bug on nougat I had those issues when I used it... I don't recommend aosp on LG v30 but your more then welcome to try them... Good luck

[Q] Any 2.3 or above ROM with everything working?

I have been searching for the better part of 10 days, this site and others as well, trying to find a 2.3+ ROM with everything working. No luck. Currently running the (t)rusty Bionix V Fishman mod V4 with Bali 1.8.8UV and everything works fabulously. The issue for me is that there are several apps I would like to use that require a 2.3 or above to run.
Every one of the 2.3 ROMs i've found have something not working, most commonly hit or miss GPS and 911 dialing.
Of course I know that an option is to buy a new phone, but the Vibrant is just fine except for the fact that I am still running Froyo. My preference is to keep the Vibrant and upgrade to a more current ROM with everything working. Possible/impossible?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks.
I might just bite the bullet and try SlimICS, even though there are some posts indicating GPS issues.
Try ICZen -> http://rootzwiki.com/topic/21742-romimm76i-iczen-185-fistful-of-zen-7-12-12-deficient-development/
EVERYthing WORKS GREAT

+1 ICZen. You should try it. Who knows you might be one of the lucky ones with working GPS on ICS or even JB.
Because I am hard, you will not like me. But the more you hate me, the more you will learn.
Just an FYI, intermittent 911 issues are caused by improper GPS hacks (which CM was using till a while back)
I've been on and off trying to get them fixed. We now have the stock GPS libraries but they're not working fully and the daemon crashes, which I don't know the effect that would have on 911. Although I have confirmed that the stock GPS libraries fix the RIL crash at the point that was causing the 911 intermittent crash.
noted.
I read the 911 Info thread, but my main issue is with GPS. I think it is safe to say that my GPS gets more use than 911 dialing so that's what i'm most interested in. Not that I use GPS daily, but it's nice to have when needed.
Is it correct to say that a ROM based on CM 9 or 10 has the correct GPS libraries?

That's up to how diligent the developer is in keeping up to date with my changes. AOKP for example is still using the wrong libraries last time I checked.
Also, the "nice to have it when I need it" statement applies more to 911 than gps if you get my drift.

Indeed I do get your drift.
As for dev diligence, some users report that everything works after upgrade, while others claim that there are GPS/911 issues.
Certainly I would go for CM 9 or 10 since there is every indication that CM is the Gold Standard, but in the very first post of
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1839655
it clearly states that there are may be interimttent GPS/911 issues and that it should NOT be used as a daily driver. I'm simply heeding this advice.
Maybe the question I should be asking is: Is there a way to determine if my Vibrant will be one of the lucky ones to have GPS/911 working post ROM upgrade before I actually do the upgrade?
Additionally, thank you FE for all your contributions to the Android community.

Right. That warning at the top is because of the GPS daemon crashing and also to cover any shortcomings on locating you during a call versus stock. Right now I do not know what would happen if a 911 call occurred while the GPS daemon was dead. If the call still worked and location was transmitted just as good, then it would be safer to use CM10. If not, it would be safer to use a ROM with the original libraries (as long as you can call consistently, see below.)
As for your GPS situation, you can always go back to stock so you could try.
And as for 911, there was one person who could not call at all due to the same problem that usually only caused intermittent issues, and then he tried a newer build with the original GPS libraries and he could then call. (Although no location was received, that may or may not be the ROM's fault) As for determining if you phone is like that, you can schedule a test call (on a ROM with old GPS libraries) with your local PSAP.

looking for a rom ics or jb that has s note and tethers properly

Like the title says is there a custom rom for I717 that has the following either jb or ics
s note
LTE
and tethers a laptop for internet hookup through the usb
I have currently Liquid smooth jb which runs lte but cannot get my laptop to usb tether properly the usb connection works to show the phone and the sd external xd card but in either download mode or not still cannot access the internet from my laptop through the tether. There is no s note and I dont like Papyrus all that much which seems to be the best of the alternatives.
Flashed a bunch of different roms in the past think quincyatt ics and flapjaxx gave me lte at one time now when I go back cannot get the lte to work again.
Tried a bunch of others but my memory fails me at the moment, anybody with any ideas or am I stuck with stock roms only.

For S-Pen you are limiting yourself to just ICS custom stock ROMs. I'm currently running Novena ROM and it's very fast and smooth. I can't tell you about USB tethering because I never use it. I always just use wifi tethering. Other options are bigfau's BlackStar and Stock Base ROMs, or the Padawan ROM. All of them feature different themes, so choose which theme you like best.

I have another to add to list of ROMs that should do what you want. H0tw1r3 created a new STOCK ROM based off of the Singapore Note. It's Stock like Samsung intended it. No AT&T bloat anywhere.

Novena ICS tethers nicely.

The only one I used as a daily driver was the AT&T JB one, despite it showing as maritime and having the call bug where it would end then make the call. Its the most reliable as far as receiving calls, getting a gps lock, etc

I've tested these extensively. The AT&T JB radio is the most stable. If you use the n4 modems long enough eventually you will miss an important call, get phantom SMS's and voicemails, etc.

[Q] Random signal fail/loss

Hideeho,
My gt-i9205 with custom ROM has random signal loss. only mobile and mobile internet (so every signal with the sim).
Im not sure if this is hardware failure or software.
It only last for 5seconds and then it should be back. but it happens to often for me.
Everything else like wi-fi etc works.
ROM: I've been installing alot of roms on mutliple devices so i know i did everything right. the roms also said everything works (no bugs).
"why not flash it again?" Im addicted to a game on my phone and i spend money on it and if i reset it, i probably lose all my stuff and that would suck.
So can anyone help me ? :3

Try your APN settings make sure they are right.....could just be bad coverage.........do a backup of your games data that should work. If not I hope you find out ....I had same issues but APN settings fixed it and coverage is a big thing too ...goodluck

This is problem I've noticed on the Mega since day one.
Sort of used to it now.
Doesn't seem to matter what ROM or what firmware.
I think its an Att thing where they throttle and control your data on their end.
My phone is very fast at the beginning of the month but after a certain amount of data it starts dropping the signal and fades in and out.
Its the only thing that bugs me about the Mega.
I've started a thread on this also and I see other posts about it from time to time but overall none seems to care.
Tech support is useless. Bottom line I think is they control your flow of data and doesn't seem to be anything you can do about it.

I updated from 4.3 bl to a KitKat bootloader but find nothing different, though devs recommended this
I'm on the 4.3 bootloader, no problems. I just got my Note 2 second hand so I didn't have much of a choice in this matter. I think improved modem support is one benefit if it's anything like the Galaxy S4. I have the n7105t, if that makes any difference.
I've noticed a couple of device-specific issues that I will note with a fresh install of the 23rd of March nightly:
1. F2FS doesn't seem supported at this time (did not boot with F2FS on System and Data). Would be nice but not a big deal really.
2. GPS doesn't seem to be working at all for me - can't lock onto any satellites whatsoever. Not sure if it's a hardware issue since I never tested in Touchwiz, but if someone could try this app and see if they could pick up any satellites that would be a great help to sorting out this issue: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest&hl=en
3. Occasional graphical glitching whilst web browsing
4. Slight distortion from rear speaker (might just be my device)
5. Headphone output seems to be low (bit lower than my Note 1)
I flashed the latest nightly yesterday to find out that the data connection issue, at least on my phone, is still there. Ever since cm12 was launched the phone is most of the times off line when connected to the telephone provider.
Do you have the same problem? I find it really weird that even though this rom is continuously updated such a crucial problem hasn't been addressed in such a long time.

Oh man, what a flashback. I disposed of a device because of this problem. This seem a fairly documented problem with the Note 2, with most solutions involving a warranty repair or exchange. Not only frustrating but also impossible for a second-hand device. I gave mine away only to accidentally find out while swapping the mid-frame with the silver bezel (to get rid of wear-and-tear / scratches) that the antennas were fubared! So in my case, after changing the mid-frame (which is cheap and fairly easy to do) the GPS signal came in perfectly. In any case, it's something to try.

In this case i dont see the point in installing the official ROM when other unofficial CM12 work out of the box and seem to be far better maintained than this one. Does anybody know why CM is not paying attention to this issue? N7105 is a fairly recent device and it used to work great with CM11. And it's not the only major bug I've been dealing with since I started testing CM12. I'm really frustrated

I don't believe CyanogenMod has an active maintainer for t0lte, so the N7105 is just another untested supported device.
Edit: Good news is... sbrissen has uploaded a RIL fix for t0lte to the CyanogenMod gerrit, so hopefully, it'll be added to the official build soon.

GPS doesnt work on my device either unless i change the setting to high accuracy instead of device only.
But after I flashed gps-fix.zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58290777&postcount=47
it was working fine, at least on 0324 build.

Thank you heaps, this worked perfect. I can now use my Note for GPS :good:
0327 build
viber video chat doesnt work ---
i could see the cam screen from the other end,
however when i turned mine on, the connection went suspended immediately.
Strangely enough, another messenger "LINE" got no trouble at all doing video talk.
Also tried on other cm12 based roms too, and viber video chat(cam from my end)couldnt be started up on any of them.
And i just googled to find out other devices have had the same issue on CM11/12 as well
All the messengers i use work great on stock rom 4.4.2
---------
really hope to see HDMI MHL output / Miracast working on cm based roms in the near future
.

Anyone knows if low volume during calls being fixed on recent builds?
Also, how to enable HDMI output to TV ? Is this feature supported yet?
Thank you.

On 0324
Both issues above still ain't sorted.......

I don't testet CM12 yet but on CM11 lowering and then raise the volume during the call fixed the low volume. If i call someone i just press volume down and then volume up at the start of a call.
HMDI output (MHL) is enabled by default but its not supported because of driver issues with Exynos. In CM10 & CM11 there was no support for it. I'd like to see support for this in the future but i don't know if this will ever happen.

Have you tried Google Hangouts? I think viber video chat is pretty buggy at the moment.

Thank you for the reply
Well if it has something to do with drivers, i doubt it will be supported then......
But I noticed miracast is sort of working at the moment. I hope this feature will be improved soon.....

oh no, never tried Hangout before
was on whatsapp / viber / LINE / kik most of the time......
I thought it could be viber's problem too as another messenger could do video chat ok .....
Just installed last night, really liking this rom. Today at 1:30pm battery was at 32%. Any tips on how to get better battery life? Also noticed there is no auto brightness, any fix for this?
Should I install latest Agni Kernel to get better battery like or no difference with it?
Thanks in advance.

Auto Brightness should now be Adaptive Brightness in CM12. Disable Adaptive Brightness to help with battery life a bit.
Have a good one!

what i did was replacing libril-qc-qmi-1.so in system\lib\ with working ones from other roms such as nameless
and it was connected alright whether it's 3g or 4g......

i tried to replace that file with the same one from nameless. Result: no network at all, the icon is not even showing. How did you get it working?

I don't believe CyanogenMod has an active maintainer for t0lte, so the N7105 is just another untested supported device.
Edit: Good news is... sbrissen has uploaded a RIL fix for t0lte to the CyanogenMod gerrit, so hopefully, it'll be added to the official build soon.

It's possible that the changes will be in the next nightly. The download link will be the same as in OP.
Have a good one!
