AOSP keyboard - LG V30 Questions & Answers

I've tried loading the apk on the phone through adb, but it crashes. I'm guessing there is more to it than having root?

... Gboard?

I'm familiar with gboard and use it. Found a solution using aosp keyboard. There is a current enhanced version here on the forum.

[Q] Using different keyboard in Calkulin+Clemsyn Froyo version 8

Is there a way to use a different keyboard in Calkulin+Clemsyn Froyo version 8?
Only stock TNT keyboard will work for me.
It shows an android keyboard, but won't let me use it.
I also tried installing Smart Keyboard Pro using the method described in the "Adding alternative keyboards" in this forum, no luck.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

Thank you brettdwagner , that allowed me to enable the installed Smart Keyboard Pro.
Then I used System App Remover to remove com.inputmethod.tapntap.apk and LatinIME.apk which removed/disabled the android and tnt keyboards.
(Yes, I backed them up first)
Now Smart Keyboard Pro is my only keyboard installed and it works great.
Thanks again for your help brettdwagner.

keyboard android 4.2

I like to use the new keyboard from android 4.2 but it's not included the dictionary of my language like it does in my original aosp keyboard, so I tried to get the keyboard dictionary from my old apk,
And put it into the new 4.2 apk, and then I packed it back to zip, and I changed the name to ***.apk but it can be installed, it says, the app was not installed...
What do I need to do???
Please help

I would like to know the answer to that question, too. I'm interest to add Hungarian sand Romanian as additional add-on dictionaries.
I'd also like to use the 4.2 keyboard on my HTC Doubleshot with CM 9.1. Where did you guys download it? I only found the package for 4.1 devices. And of course I'd like to use the system dictionary.
Also, I've tried the pre-release keyboard install method and it didn't work when I flashed the .zip. However now that the code is out it's principally pretty easy to create an .apk right? Also can this made the way so that it uses the system dicitonaries?
Thanks

Could not get Default (SecurityException)

Hello all,
I have a quick (hopefully) question regarding an app that I'm using. I ported an app from AOSP to Touchwiz and removed the Touchwiz stock InCallUI, forcing the phone to use the AOSP one instead. However, the app tends to hang before changing displays. I took a logcat and the only error I believe could have had an effect is this one:
Code:
[ 04-12 00:53:28.636 1605: 1672 E/Telecom ]
TelecomServiceImpl: Could not get default dialer.
java.lang.SecurityException: Package com.android.incallui does not belong to 10003

at com.android.server.telecom.TelecomServiceImpl.isDefaultDialerCalling(TelecomServiceImpl.java:680)
at com.android.server.telecom.TelecomServiceImpl.enforceModifyPermissionOrDefaultDialer(TelecomServiceImpl.java:626)

at com.android.internal.telecom.ITelecomService$Stub.onTransact(ITelecomService.java:312)
at android.os.Binder.execTransact(Binder.java:446)
It seems like the issue was due to it not being set as the default app or some issue with the permissions. I tried looking for an xml that sets the default apps, but couldn't find one. I also looked through the build.prop, but I don't think there was anything of noticeable change in there.
My Device Specs:
SM-G900A
Lollipop 5.0 Based on G900F ROM
Rooted
No Xposed
Stock Kernel
I would appreciate any and all assistance in solving this issue.

AOSP Nougat ROM with S-pen support (but no touchwiz) for Samsung Galaxy Note 5?

I am trying to find the perfect ROM but google is not helping. Here is what I need:
1. AOSP (no touchwiz or Tmobile/Samsung bloatware, excepting S-pen apps).
2. Keeps S-pen support intact.
3. Allows use of Magisk instead of SU for systemless root and hide (no lectures please - I LOVE Magisk).
4. Nougat at least 7.1.1, preferably 7.1.2.
5. Works on N920T.
Thanks.
Wrong forum kiddo
You made me hope for nothing. I thought someone was starting to develop an AOSP ROM with S-Pen support ... Thanks for using the forum better, posting your topics in the right sections.
Thanks.

Sorry, you are correct, I will re-post in "Q&A..."
It's impossible due to the need to replicate all TouchWiz behavior and create an alternative SDK (software development kit) which uses same method names and package_names of the Official SPen SDK to let the current SPen 3rd/official Apps working as expected.
After this a deep interaction is required between this component(s) and the System (i.e.: hovering a button needs a hint to be shown and then change the cursor) and it's very complex.
What you're looking for could take many months of work for a quite-big development team and no one can effort it.
Sorry.
Ekhm... There is no TouchWiz in Nougat ROMs. There is Samsung Experience
I'm curious why afraid of Samsung original UI?
Did your tried out?
You can always use Nova Launcher and mimic to almoar to perfection AOSP looks and feels.
I recommend to use Khongloi ROM for n920t. Use version 11 instead of Final. I don't have any issues with it.
Also using Magisk.

I am using Apex launcher, but that doesn't change things like the settings menus. I much prefer the LineageOS nougat ROM on my Nexus to the stock Samsung. Although an unofficial build of LineageOS exists for the Note 5, it has issues... I will check out Khongloi, thanks.

Please help -- Q re error installing Pixel Launcher v9 on LG V30

All,
Forgive me in advance, but I am a serious novice when it comes to customizing phones or installing launchers etc. However, I have scoured the internet and forums for answers and done everything I found to try to solve the issues. I'm here as last resort asking for your alls help.
My lg v30 just got updated to android pie. Went to install the more recent version of the official google pixel launcher (V9, says it's compatible with android pie or below) and when I go to install it says it wont do it. The weird thing is is that I can install an older version of the pixel launcher (from 2018). Just not the newer ones from 2019. And on the older version of the pixel launcher my swipe google discover feed will not appear to the left of my home screen no matter what I do.
I've tried installing the apk's from apk mirror, cant post link bc I'm a new user. But its from apk mirror and its the official pixel launcher apk, different updated versions.
And yes, I uninstalled pixel launcher before installing new ones. Still wont install. Have tried all recent versions except for the v10 release which it says wouldnt be compatible on android pie phones.
I have allowed third party installs, uninstalled / re-installed the pixel launcher. So my questions are:
1) Am I not able to run a more recent version of the pixel launcher on a v30? Even if it's been updated to android pie?
2) Even running an older version of the pixel launcher (v8 from 2018), my google swipe discover feed will not appear to the left of the home screen. Is there anything I can do to get it to appear?
I appreciate any insight you all can offer. And sorry for novice questions, I'm really frustrated.
