Hi guys, anybody getting random restarts with this phone? I've been getting them approx once a day, I factory reset and thought the problem had disappeared but it has started again.
I haven't flashed with any ROM's, on standard firmware and I only have speedtest and wallpapers...no other apps.
Cheers

Nope... had mine in 5 days now, never happened.
Looking at my ROM it looks rather old:
i9100XXKDH
I9100XWKDC
0 restarts so far

Yes. I've had the phone about a week and it's happened about 3 times. I only just saw the last one as the media scanner was starting. The only good side, is the phone boots really quickly

During normal usage, phone kept rebooting five to six times in quick succession (happened twice) upon media scanning. Seems that my Apacer 16GB MicroSDHC doesn't play ball with it; ever since I've removed the memory card, the rebooting just went away.
Always worth backing up data factory reset and wipe restore apps but not system files

Hhmmm it's a possibility, I also have 16Gb card in mine and this was directly transferred from my old android phone. Perhaps I should re-format it.
Thing is it doesn't do it lots as you describe and will happily play music all day...it's just completely random.

Started with a clean slate by reformatting the SDHC using the SGSII, rebooting came back shortly after. Running on stock ROM.

Mine rebooted exiting a game as a friend was trying out hte phone earlier.... oops
Can anyone with the reboot issue please post firmare that is on your phone please? I'm almost certain it's related to this.

Interesting. I also have a 16GB MicroSDHC in mine. I didn't format it either. I just used it straight from my Galaxy Tab. I wonder if it should be formatted.

My firmware as follows:
Mine is the same baseband version but I9100XWKDC....so even older!
The ones that are reporting random restarts are in the main original firmware that came with the phone in the first few weeks .
Been 3 firmware updates released since .
jje
Not once has mine rebooted on its own.
I have a 16GB microSD, latest firmware etc...
I'm desperate to update through Kies as I don't want to invalidate my warrenty but it's just saying 'device version cannot be updated'. It's not locked so I don't know why I can't.
TBH last time I had a Samsung I had issues, should have known better :/

Hey I have the exact same firmware. Have you updated your phone? Did the rebooting stop after you updated your firmware? Even though the phone rebooting doesn't affect me much but then I find it really annoying that it reboots randomly.
the phone powered off it self until i pressed the power button to turn on again. i noticed this often happened when i put in my pocket for a while. but when i put it on table over night it didn't happen.
roms that i tried that had the same problem:
batista 3.7++
lightening 3+,6+
cognition 1.4+
apps that i tried uninstalled but no avail:
-setcpu
-daemon control(batista rom)
-juice defender
is it due to motherboard issue? appreciate your advice. thanks.
have u tired wiping data and dalvik cache before installing any rom?

thanks, yes, i in fact wiped all and even install stock rom before any mod roms. and i also changed few kernels(stock, nipo, CF..)but still the same..
now trying to use kh4 stock rom and see..
So the this issue s only occurring when the phone is in your pocket and never when out of your pocket.
this happens to my Phone as well.. its kinda random...
sometimes when am listening to music and sometimes when its just on standby
for example it just restarted which reminded me to search for this error...
few days ago it was on standby and had shut itself down and the battery was completely drained after 5 hours without anything on.

yes, found it only happens when putting in my pocket. when charging over night or putting on my work desk, it didn't happen.
and yes, it happened few times when it turned off it self, it lost about 10% to 20% battery in just few minutes... the phone was warm when it happened. that was why i took out to check and found it already powered off..

What firmware you have? I run on XXKH3 for 3 days (previously on XXKG3 for 2 weeks), no boot issues.

all happened to shut down it self. so i guess it is not rom issue..
I would try a stock ROM for a week, just to be safe (no apps/tweaks/kernel, etc., really stock). I'm pretty sure a recent stock ROM will not give you issues, I would not worry about the hardware.

thanks for your advice, will try stock rom then
Ya, do that... just to see what is going on.
More on the technical side, the screen needs minimum 500Mhz to get out of Sleep Mode. Some custom Rom's use a low voltage or "underclock" feature that reduces the power consumption but also the number of CPU steps. That is what makes your phone crash and reboot randomly.
Once you put the stock ROM, do a sdcard wipe (if you use one), just to be safe. It should take several hours, so do it over the night. Personally I would not use an external sdcard during the one week test, just be sure.
You could also have a RAM (hardware) issue, ya. But 99% of the time is related to software. Bad memory degrades fast so you will see your random reboots pop at a faster frequency. If you did all the above and still experience random reboots, run adb logcat to see what is going on at that specific moment. If you get error codes like:
Code:
code 1 (SEGV_MAPERR), fault addr 00000000
you are dealing with bad memory unfortunately and need to service your phone.

I also heard that some people had bad battery contacts on their S2. Clean them with some audio head tape cleaner and cotton swabs, than make sure the contacts are proper... it should eliminate this possibility. In a way, it makes sense since you move a lot with your phone in your pocket.
Edit: I just clicked on Thank You button for your OP, instead of Quote.

However, I have a feeling this is your problem, since the phone restarts in your pocket only. Don't smack it like the guy did, heh. Go easier, think like it is your girlfriend...
Just clean the battery contacts and make sure they touch properly.
is there a guide on how to install Stock ROM back on? cant find any...
how can i root my sgs2...?
it also happened to my phone. so i brought it back to the store where i purchased it and told them that it was shutting down randomly when i put it in my pocket. after 15 days of waiting i called them for follow up because they told me it will take 7-10 working days. they told me that the phone never shut down in the service center. what can i do about it? i don't know how to flash or root. this is my first android phone.
I have finally found a solution... installed XXKH3 FW stock, not rooted yet, and installed an application from the android market called Load Monitor
Code:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.landak.loadmon
and enabled only Add Notifications, only notify high load, autostart and only screen on... seems to do the job, no battery drainage and most of all NO SOD (Sleep Of Death) or restarts anymore
If you still have problems try checkin wake lock from the options of the app...
Hope it helps

The phone did not rebooted in their store because they did not move it, you have a bad battery contact that can be fixed easy.

Hi,
I've a problem with my LG optimus net p690.
Sometimes it crashes and says "Crash! Please get Ramdump!" I will remove the battery and re-insert it and it starts working. But it happens atleast 4-5 times a day. It will not happen for a specific application or something like that, it will when am listening to music, when i recieve a call/sms, while charging and even when kept idle.
I did factory reset a lot of time but no luck. It will happen in all the ROMs including stock rom. I even restored it to stock rom by kdz updater but still had no luck.
Any help regarding this?
Thanks

Have you tried to do an full restore or a full wipe? Flash another ROM maybe soves the problem. RAMDUMP, maybe is caused by an app. The app stays in the memory and don't get out. That's it.
wiped cache a lot of times

Yup, I did it every time when I changed the ROM.
It started even before I root the phone. But after wiping cache also same thing's happening

nik263, i went to service centre and they replaced some part and returned it tome. they took only an hour to replace the part. LG knows about the issue andd they are working on it. as a temp workaround they are changing that part. after they replaced the part drastically it came down. earlier i used to get it atleast 5 - 6 times a day now only once in a day i am getting it.
I get it very often. Unfortunately sometimes during phone calls. I can reproduce this issue whenever needed by switching on the radio while the music player is already running. BAD!!!

bud, goto service center and they will replace a part (didn't get a hint what they replaced) and will return it in couple of hours. after replacing it also am getting it but it is drastically reduced, now am getting may be once in a week or 10days. thats the only solution
But now my phone is rooted and have custom rom flashed. I was in an impression that they will not consider it for warranty. I do not have my original rom;s backup. How did u manage?

LG optimus P690 crash
Hi All,
Even I am getting that crash. I was trying to downlaod files via bluetooth yesterday, though the space in the SD was low.
It was a whole lot of memory, alteast larger than the space left in the SD.
When I took a look at it, it was sort of off.
Then I have to take the battery out and the I restarted it.
Even then it was getting off, just after I am getting the display screen.
This is happening since yesterday, and I have already switched off my phone for around 15 times.
I could see that there is less than 100 MB left on the SD card.
What I observe is that only if the SD card is getting loaded in the first few minutes, my phone is crashing. and if it is not loading I could work on it for some time.
Please figure this out and let me know
Thanks in advance,
Ravi

I got my Huawei Honor at christmas. It worked fine for the first few months.
The stock launcher started crashing. It required a reboot when it crashed. It happened fee times a day.
Then, one morning, it crashed again. As usual, I rebooted and put it in my pocket. One hour later, I noticed my phone was hot. It
d been stuck on a reboot for an hour. It was not the battery. The battery was cold. But the bottom part where sd and sim cards are was burning hot. When I took the battery off, the phone cooled down quickly. It had it's warranty left, so I took it back to the store and they sent it to repair. The phone was reparied in under a week, and they said they had to update the OS. It is still the same 4.0.3. Keeps crashing and launcher and all custom launchers from play store keep crashing. So, you got any help? Tried googling a lot.
Also, loking to root the phone if it helps, but all tutorials are too complicated for me. Could someone explain step to step not using any strange terms how to root this phone. Or link me one. Google seems to hate me.
And is there big chance of bricking this phone?
And please note that this is my first android phone and i have no idea what terms like flashing a rom or recovery mode mean.
I just ewant to get this working and also I woul like root access anyways.

Hey guys!
I had a spanish S3, but because the constant freezing (I had the sudden death affected chip) the Samsung Service replaced the main board and the emmc and instead the PHE country code, my phone is getting the Austria Open updates now (ATO).
Last update came like 2 weeks ago. The weird thing is that the phone is very fast, no lag at all, very few touchwiz redraws, very good battery life (one day and half) and I have all the time over 200 mb free ram. I always had only 90-110 mb free, but after this last update the phone rocks. I have over 150 apps installed, over 29 like facebook, google plus, whatsapp, line, falcon pro, google currents, feedly and so on...full of widgets and no bloatware removed.
Looks like Sammy releases the phones in the worst optimization possible, but over the year makes it flawless.
Anybody experiencing the same ?
This is the memory the phone is using right now: http://i.imgur.com/rW0LUZc.png
I pull out the phone from the charger at 8:30 this morning, made 4 calls (2 minutes each) and talked like 5 minutes on Whatsapp, the phone is not in Power Save mode) and is connected by wifi. At 12:19 pm I still have 92% juice.
so your problem is that the phone is too good?
Firmware updates generally do give improvements. Not just security fixing :highfive:

Actually...yes...since the last update. Not sure if it's that particular OTA update or every new update received in the last month. I always complained that the phone have few free RAM memory and is lagging. Wondering.....it was the emmc and the motherboard which have done this trick or the last update ?
I'm asking because I have some friends whose phone is working horrible right now and they are wondering if they should give me their phone to root and flash it with this firmware or their problem is the emmc (sudden dead insane chip)

Note the problem Sudden dead dead as in not working .
Nothing you can flash for a dead phone .
Give you the phone to flash if they want but don't root it for no reason .

Yeah....I will talk with them. I can flash without rooting. I'm curious how good will work this update on their phones.
